What's new

PCB’s 10-week long 2017 high performance cricket camp at NCA [PICTURES/VIDEOS #219 onwards]

Talat is in the camp. As for Gohar, we have a surplus of left-arm spinners at the moment so it is not a priority.

I don't understand this kind of thinking. What does it matter if you already have left arm spinners? What if there are left arm spinners who are lots better? Don't you want to select your best possible players, of whatever kind? even if you already have three left-arm pacers named Rahat Alis, wouldn't you want to unearth a Wasim Akram?

I have seen little - Zeeshan is probably like Farhan or Imran Nazir. Very good crispy stroke maker, but probably not so solid. How much he'll go beyond Nazir, depends on what lies above his shoulder.

Umair is a fantastic prospect as WK batsman. He is technically sound bat & decent WK. However, I feel he is better suited for longer format, because of his batting style. Not the brutal hitter. There was one more guy Umar Siddique, but seems he has faded away. The young kid Ruhail must be good with bat, but haven't seen him.

he looks a bit of akmal in his batting,,,,i mean masood..

Are you talking about the Lahore WK batsman Umar Siddique who played in champions league as well?At first he looked good but yes he has faded away.

If you have to rate players between Saud,Saif,Zeeshan,Umair how is it going to be?

First off, I was explaining the possible reasoning behind Gohar's exclusion. I never said I agreed with it.

Second, you said you don't understand the reasoning so i'll try to explain. The point is there is a limit on the number of spaces in the camp and there is a limit in terms of resources (both time and money). Right now, Pakistan has bigger priorities than investing in yet another left arm spinner. So the PCB is choosing to focus its resources where the PCT is deficient- seems pretty sensible to me. But that is not the same as saying others should stop performing. The fact is if other players excel at domestic level, they will eventually be given an opportunity.

Third, in terms of SLAs Kamran Ghulam looks a more promising option, and has the added advantage of being a very competent batsmen. So if anyone has been hard done by, it's him. Especially given we are looking for all-rounders.

Pakistan Test XI should look like this in a year or so for the tour to Africa:
1) Sami Aslam
2) Azhar Ali
3) Babar Azam
4) Haris Sohail
5) Osman Salahuddin
6) Umar Amin
7) Sarfraz Ahmed
8) Hussain Talat
9) Mohammad Amir
10) Hasan Ali
11) Mohammad Asghar

I read the list quickly, true we have a surplus, but i really think the kid is special, but regarldess good luck to those in the camp.

Hasan Khan the left-arm spinner who impressed in the PSL has totally fallen off the radar. Him along with Shadab are the best fielders in Pakistan. He also seemed to be a good hard hitting batsman and can spin the bowl unlike Imad. We need to develop him as a replacement for Imad.

35 years youngster Asif Zakir, evergreen flop king Umar Akmal and no future for Asif/Nawaz/Rizwan are really poor selection. May be base on TTF quota. Some promising players like Gulam Mudassar, Asad Raza, Zeshan Malik, Saif Badar etc should replace these non-performers

Yeah really disappointing to see no zeshan Malik no saif badar.even there is no real quick fast bowler .all are below 138kph

he had a quiet pak one day cup'17.. but should have been added to this list...

He's 18, he'll get his chance in due time.

I saw him playing a bit in the Corporate T20 Cup, took some good pressure catches.

He is a terrific fielder and a better fielder than Shadab.

He yesterday played in the final of Ramzan tournament for KElectric and they won it.I didn't saw his bowling but he took some lovely catches.

You don't want to play Yasir Shah in Tests?

Yasir will suffer in SA because he can't really turn the ball that much overseas. Even though the SA batsmen are all at sea against quality spin, Yasir just doesn't do it for me. Asghar can turn the ball massively both ways and is an excellent fielder like Yasir. He tunrns the ball the same way as Yasir but is much younger and fitter.

any additions to the list of 27 players. there are some deserving players who need to be added to the training squad.

That's a little harsh on Junaid- he was the third highest wicket taker in the whole tournament. Surely he deserves a run in the team for now?

Fluke. His bowling has no bite, variation.etc and match loosing spell is around the corner

Whether he will be able to maintain/improve is a valid question, but I think it is harsh to say he managed to "fluke" the whole tournament. He deserves credit for his CT performance, regardless of what happens in the future.

Unlikely we'll play four pacers (five if we include Talat) and only one spinner in Asia ?

Rumman is way too overhyped.. Not international standard.
I don't know if you watched his performance against England in the CT but it was excellent. Sure he's not a 150kph bowler but he has a shrewd mindset. Also, that celebration is priceless.

Add Misbah and Afridi to the list and have a best of 5 x T20 match series in different cities to exhibit CT Champions. 10 weeks camp is too long and boys need competitive cricket to keep the momentum.

Hassan Khan wasn't in the original list, but according to his twitter, he's traveling to Lahore for the high performance camp.

PCB’s high performance cricket camp initiates

A 10-week National High-Performance Cricket Camp has started at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Monday.

The camp has been formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) keeping in view the future matches and series of the Pakistan cricket team, where the players would be trained under the supervision of NCA coaches, said a PCB spokesperson.

On the first two days of the camp, Monday and Tuesday, the players would go through one-on-one session with the NCA coaches, where they will work on the data collection related to them.

The practice session start from Wednesday, July 5.

Whenever these "high-performance" camps are on, our team starts performing worse :p

Feel sorry for the players.....10 weeks in that heat is like torture.

Most of the players probably don't even want to be there.

He wasn't dropped due to his performance. He was out due to injury and if we all want Haris Sohail to join the team back then why not give it a run to Junaid who has started performing.

Would like a few of these players to get into the side. Testing bench strength is always a good thing while resting key players and not overworking them.

Azhar Mahmood in his blog did mention how they want to develop bench-strength so they can implement a rotation policy. This should hopefully mean a few of these players will be given opportunities in the near future.

Pakistan cricket team is searching for all-rounders, informed the head coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Mushtaq Ahmed on Thursday.

Talking to media, the former leggie who is currently leading the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) high performance training camp

“We are not finding the all rounders and are constantly in search of them,” said Mushtaq.

The NCA coach said that there are a number of replacements need to filled in all forms of cricket, especially in the Test side due to the departure of former Pakistan skipper Misbah ul Haq and the country’s leading run scorer in Test Younis Khan.

“After the retirement of Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan, the Test side needs two replacements, straightaway and we are focusing to find such players. Meanwhile, we are searching for One Day cricketers as well,” said Mushtaq.

Some 27 players have participated in the 10-week long PCB's camp, which started from July 3 and will continue to September 9.

I like the rotation policy, but it should be used in dead matches or T20Is

Need some 'A' tours for these players to showcase their skills. That should be top priority for the PCB. The schedule should include several 4-day games.

Turns out Umar Akmal is not even at the NCA Camp, citing a knee injury. Apparently, he is currently undergoing "rehabilitation" with his PT in England for five weeks. Perhaps this is why he was not awarded a central contract- the straw that broke the camel's back as it were.

If this is true then Umar Akmal is the person who takes his career/job as a joke and then wants a healthy paycheck at the end of the month. This is an example of a failure, longer these failures lurkes in a firm the likely the firm as a whole would also fail. Its time to get rid of this deadweight, and envision success in the new generation of cricketers.

Seems to be wasting away all his talent unfortunately. Here's hoping he can mature but it looks unlikely. In his defence, he has tweeted videos of him undergoing interval training with a PT but you never know with UA.

Why would he be at the camp with a knee injury?

You never know with Umar Akmal.... he really is that stupid!

If he has any sense remaining he won't ever do that. I am sure he is nursing an injury and wants to get over it completely. He knows it that his career now seems to be at the cross road and he may not get national call up in future as he had in the past inspite of his misdemeanours.
I have also heard NCA messing up the rehabilitation of few cricketers in the past and in process jeopardising their career so may be UA don't want to risk it.

I don't think you're an athlete or have ever trained? How do you think athletes train? Sohail saab rehn do tussi.

it is not necessary to be an athlete to know this.....from my knowledge i know that hard surfaces are not suited for running....neither too soft are good,,,,,,,

DRsohail is 100% correct.

The most gifted English footballer of the last forty years, Paul Lake, saw his career destroyed by having to run up and down the Kippax Stand at Manchester City's old Maine Road stadium.

Running up and down a stadium's stand is an appalling training exercise.

Running on stands (stearcase) isn't good for cardio as well. I have heard WI fast bowlers running on sea beach to tighten their ligaments & ham strings, but never heard anyone running on hard & stiff stearcase in sports. May be in military trainings, but not in most sports.

Two questions:

1. Do you have an updated list of the players taking part? So far, I have spotted Zeeshan Malik, Saad Ali, Hassan Khan, and Ehsan Adil taking part in the camp despite not being on the original list of invitees.

2. What on earth is Arsal Shaikh doing there? Just as the PCB looks as though it might be making progress, it returns to its nepotistic ways.

They don't seem to be mentioning Sahibzada Farhan unfortunately- he was overlooked for a central contract. His best hope is to perform well in next month's t20 cup and put himself in contention for the PSL.

It is the national T20 Cup. To the best of my knowledge, the schedule does not appear to have been published as of yet.
