Meanwhile BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed Saturday they are waiting to hear from Pakistan Cricket Board regarding Bangladesh national cricket team’s travel to the country for the third time in four months.

With the rising concern of coronavirus, BCB last week was forced to postpone a mega concert and a two-match T20I series between a World XI and Asia XI to mark 100th birth centenary of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

England cricket team left Sri Lanka before the series could begin while New Zealand has called off the series against hosts Australia midway. The ODI series between South Africa and hosts India has also been cancelled half way through while the India Premier League T20 is now to raise curtain on April 15 instead of March 29.

In the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League T20 in Pakistan, at least 10 overseas cricketers have left the tournament before completion with rising concern of the virus that has been termed ‘pandemic’ by WHO [World Health Organization].

“Pakistan as hosts will need to take the decision. We are waiting to hear from them,” said BCB CEO Nizamuddin to the media on Saturday.

“We are aware that around nine to ten overseas cricketers have left from PSL T20. We are waiting to hear a decision from PCB. We are the travelling team and we can take a decision anytime. Fresh directives are coming everyday on travel and guidelines on what to do and not if you are going anywhere,” BCB high-up added.

“We are of course concerned [of rising concern of the virus and travelling] and we are monitoring it closely. We hope that Pakistan Cricket Board will soon make a decision [on Bangladesh’s tour],” said Nizamuddin.

Just cancel the tour, Bangla clearly don't provide a real challenge to this Pakistan team and the Pakistani audience isn't interested in watching a one-way smacking.

Not to mention, once we are past the pandemic and they look to reschedule, BCB is likely to whine about something else

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon on Saturday said the 3rd and final phase of the Pakistan tour of Bangladesh National cricket team is now very tough due to spread of coronavirus globally.

“The final decision is yet to be made. We’re in close contact with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). I hope the final decision will be made within the next couple of days,” Nazmul told the media at the Gulshan Youth Club during a corporate cricket festival.

“Families of the cricketers are also concerned about coronavirus. They’re not willing to send their sons to play cricket amid this fear. So, I think it is tough for us to tour Pakistan now,” Nazmul added.

In the first phase of the tour, Bangladesh played a three-match T20Is series against the hosts in Lahore and in the second phase, Tigers played the first Test of the two-match series also in Lahore.

Now, the Tigers are scheduled to tour Pakistan for an ODI and remaining Test in Karachi.

While the tour is now under the cloud, Pakistan also to scrap the ongoing season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to the ascending fear over coronavirus.

The league copes up with the fear as the foreign players opted to leave early due to travelling restriction around the world.

Major sporting events around the world will cancelled or postponed this year. This is the correct decision.

Australia-NZ series got canceled. IPL got postponed. Various other sporting events got canceled too.

I think it is better to postpone it. They can play this a few months later.

Karachi ODI, Test and Pakistan Cup postponed

Lahore, 16 March 2020:

The Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket boards have decided to postpone the upcoming One-Day International and Test in Karachi for a later date.

The two boards will now work together to identify a future opportunity to complete the ICC World Test Championship commitment. The first Test of the series was played in Rawalpindi from 7-10 February, which Pakistan won by an innings and 44 runs.

The Bangladesh men’s national cricket team was due to arrive in Karachi on 29 March to play an ODI on 1 April and the second ICC World Test Championship Test from 5-9 April.

Meanwhile, the PCB has also indefinitely postponed the Pakistan Cup one-day tournament, which was scheduled to start from 25 March.

The right decision. We don't know how bad it will spread in Bangladesh and Pakistan. No need to risk players and familes health for a game of cricket.

Yet we have pundits here who believe BD should travel to Pakistan because "Bangladesh are ungrateful"

Cricket is insignificant now. I love Cricket and it's boring without any cricket going on but that's just how it is

Bangladesh's third and final phase of the Pakistan tour was postponed yesterday due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bangladesh were scheduled to play one ODI and their second and final World Test Championship fixture on April 1 and from April 5 respectively, both in Karachi.

"Considering the recent situation across the world, we have been saying this right from the start that the PCB will take the decision on this regard. Pakistan has been in touch with us on how to work on the tour in the coming days. It was a sensible approach on arranging the tour at a suitable time and we are discussing the matter. As they took the decision to postpone the series, we have agreed to it," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the media yesterday.

This is why the 2nd test should have been played straight away in february instead of splitting it in phases.

But good stuff from the boards in the end. Health comes first and hopefully in the future things won't be split into phases.

I had a good laugh reading some of the chest thumping comments. This is a world wide epidemic and some of you guys are moaning and crying over so called a "minnow team" not want to visit. SOme of Y'all have serious issues ... SERIOUS ISSUES.

Even we cancled our series vs SA. IPL has been pushed back (might not go ahead either). What some of you are not realizing is that within 2-3 weeks, south asian countries with poor hygene and lack of knowledge will be in a disastrous crisis. Italy will be nothing compared to high density populated countries. It is a Risk for both your players and theirs.

People are not going to remain locked up in their homes forever. The West with its money, superior technology, advancement in science needs to come up with a cure

The third-phase tour of the Bangladesh men’s cricket team in Karachi, Pakistan, has been postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now thinking about postponing the team’s upcoming international games in Ireland and England.

BCB director Akram Khan, who is also the chairman of the board's Cricket Operations Committee, gave such an indication to the media yesterday.

The Tigers are scheduled for a tour of Ireland in May to play a three-match ODI series. The cricket boards of both Bangladesh and Ireland have released the full fixtures for the tour. All matches of the ODI series are slated to be held in Belfast, Ireland.

There were also plans to play a four-match T20 series in Ireland, but Cricket Ireland (CL) shifted the matches to England as the Irish stadium in which the T20 series would have been held was being refurbished. The series is now slated to be held at three different venues in England.

However, all of Europe is badly affected by the deadly coronavirus. Infected cases are being detected almost daily. Moreover, the death toll is increasing with time, especially in Italy.

British doctors have predicted that the situation in the region might be even grimmer in May–June. Considering the situation in England and Ireland, the BCB is reconsidering its decision to tour in the two countries this May.

“We will never take any decision that puts our cricketers in danger. We will take tough decisions regarding our tours in Ireland and England, if needed,” said Akram Khan.

“The problem is not just for us but for the entire world. We are ready to do whatever is required to resolve the situation,” he added.

The former Bangladesh captain said the BCB was prepared to postpone or suspend any tour or series in the interest of the cricketers’ safety.

Akram, who remains popular for his winning knock that helped Bangladesh triumph in the first-ever ICC Trophy in Malaysia in 1997, said the board would not accept any risk for even players with the lowest risk levels. “The tour in Pakistan has been postponed. Domestic cricket is closed. Let’s hope the entire world escapes the deadly danger quickly,” the 51-year-old said.

“If the situation worsens, we are ready to postpone any future series to ensure the security of the players. We will not expose them to any risk,” he concluded.
