I suppose a couple of ODIs would have been nice.

Two test rubbish once again with Australia. I wonder if it's the delicacy and dainty attitude of the Aussies that makes them oppose to any ideas of full three match series in the desert. Just saying.

Why is Pakistan playing 3 T20s while 0 Odi when there is a ODI World Cup months later the series?

It is about 9 months after the series and Pakistan have plenty of ODI cricket lined up against SA, Aus and even England.

If pakistan struggle to win this TEST series in UAE then shows how poor and far test team has fallen. T20s should be competitive.

I think this was supposed to be 3 Tests against Aussies only but for commercial gains Pakistan dropped one test for 3 T20s. I may be wrong...

There's no need to be playing T20 right now.

LOL T20 will be played ,regardless if there is a need or not. It brings in money and will pack out the stadia in the UAE more so than a test.

I really dislike this 2 test - 3 T20 combo. I know there is more money in T20 but for God’s sake it’s not like PCB is going bankrupt that they need to cut down on tests. I am pretty sure they could have insisted on an additional test and may be cut down one or two of the pointless T20s.

Pakistani B spinners will get Aussies out, they are worse than England at playing spin in Asia.

Can't think of a better time to hammer Australia. Smith, Warner, Hazelwood, Cummins are all not part of the squad

PCB should have played 3 tests at least.

When was the last time Pakistan played a 4 test match series ?

Instead of those 3 T20s, they still can make it a 3 Test series from 24-28 OCT. These days, squad between Test & T20 changes so much that, it'll be almost like a new series without any practice game. Rather, better is to make it 3 Test series and may be add couple of T20s in the return leg of ODI Series. 2 Tests are unfair for both teams, fans as well.

I'm sure you know the reasons for T20, it's economical

It’s actually good for Australia that it’s only a 2 test series. They will suffer only 2 losses.

I do understand that we'll play more ODI's closer to the WC but isn't it better if we play more ODI's anyway? It'll give us a better indication of what players we need in our team and also who shouldn't be playing for us, we need our ODI players to get their wicket tallies up and their runs up as well, I feel we hardly play ODI's anymore.

Few things are worse than UAE Tests, so I am not bothered that we will have only two against Australia. I think this series will be a lot more competitive than last time. Our team is poor compared to 2014, and Australia are better (in some aspects) than what they were four years ago, in spite of losing Warner and Smith.

Lyon in particular is a much better bowler than what he was in 2014. His average in the UAE means little today, he has developed into a world class Test offie over the years. I am going for 1-0 to Pakistan, but I won't be surprised if it is 0-0 or 1-1, which will be disastrous for us.

I myself actually forgot that the ODI's were in March, even though that was announced a long time ago, when I was checking the schedule I didn't even realize that. I think when people get busy with Uni/work/family etc we tend to forget minor things, which is probably why so many people also are thinking there's no ODI's. Just how humans work.

Anyway, I don't know myself why the ODI's are in March, whether that's due to the World Cup or just because of the crammed schedule Pakistan have, but I think it's gonna benefit us as that's just a few months before the World Cup so preparation will be better the closer it is to the big tournament itself.

Pakistan has 4 or 5 ODIs in the Asia Cup, 3 vs New Zealand, 5 vs South Africa, 5 vs Australia, and then 5 vs England.

I fully expect Pakistan to shell a Test somehow

The ODIs and tests were originally the other way around. The boards sensibly agreed to swapping the dates for the ODIs and tests so that the ODIs could be used as preparation for WC19.

It's not often you can say this, but good forward planning by the PCB.

Won't be worst thing, considering the grand scheme of things. Limited overs cricket, including T20s, should be prioritized leading up to the World Cup. I wouldn't be too fussed with a Test loss here or there.

God it would have been better if there were more tests and ODI's instead of having them next year.

I wish we'd play at least 4 tests for a change. These par time tours disappoint me.

I for one enjoy watching Tests in the U.A.E.

Only bowlers with accuracy and endurance survive while batting requires patience and grinding.

Remember the golden rule:

Bat first and bat big, crush the enemy with spin.

Easily for people to complain about only having 2 Tests but watching Tests in UAE is a total snooze fest with almost nothing happening for the first 3 days in most matches.

Doubt they make any money either considering there is usually nobody in the stands.

Nah, it is bowl first and take advantage of the freshness of the wicket. Bowl the other team for 200. Then score 400 and bat the opposition out of the game..

You're being sarcastic right? Because this rarely happens in UAE

And then we got hammered out of the stratosphere in Australia. We also had a far more settled side in 2014

We had a few good days in that series. We even got pretty close to chasing the highest test score ever with Shafiq and Amir if i recall correctly. And fought hard in part such as the 200 from Azhar

Renshaw stalled by untimely injury

Matthew Renshaw's bid to continue his Test career against Pakistan in the UAE has taken a hit with the opener battling a hamstring strain on the Australia A tour of India.

Renshaw picked up the injury batting in the one-day series while scoring an unbeaten 42 against South Africa A.

He missed the next two matches, both against India B, including the final where Australia A were soundly beaten by nine wickets, but had been fit enough to take part in light drills.

He batted in a net session in Bengaluru on Friday afternon in a bid to prove his fitness but with his recovery uncertain, fellow Queenslander Marnus Labuschagne has been retained with the squad ahead of Sunday's first four-day match as cover.

Should Renshaw be unable to take his place in the side to face India A on Sunday, it’s understood he’ll target the second match of the series that starts on September 8.

The Test squad for the Qantas Tour of the UAE for a two-match series against Pakistan is expected to be named at the conclusion of the A Tour, with the first Test starting on October 7.

Renshaw’s injury, which comes after he suffered a broken finger earlier this year while playing for Somerset in the UK, is not currently expected to make fitness an issue when it comes to selecting the first Australian Test side since the ill-fated South Africa tour in March.

However, it creates a short-term issue for Australia A with Renshaw the only specialist first-class opener in the squad.

Labuschagne bats at No.3 for the Queensland Bulls in the JLT Sheffield Shield when Usman Khawaja is not in the team, and that pair could now find themselves opening for Australia A.

South Australia captain Travis Head opened the batting for Worcestershire in his stint with the county this winter, but usually bats at No.4 for the Redbacks.

The opening berths in the Australian Test team are one of several unanswered questions ahead of the Pakistan series following the suspensions to David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their roles in the Cape Town cheating scandal.

Renshaw and fellow Queenslander Joe Burns were parachuted into the side for the Johannesburg Test match.

Renshaw, who has a century and three fifties and an average of 33.47 from 11 Tests, appears likely to open the batting in Pakistan, but Joe Burns' omission for the A Tour makes his return uncertain.

"I spoke with the selectors after the South African series, and everything was really positive there," Burns told cricket.com.au earlier this month. "I guess as a player all you can really do is trust that and prepare accordingly."

Labuschangne's extended stay in India could also have ramifications for Queensland's preparations for their JLT One-Day Cup campaign. The state has already been hit by injury to Jimmy Peirson, who has been ruled out of the tournament following hamstring surgery. And the Bulls will be without any players called up to the Test squad, which could include Khawaja, Renshaw and Burns.

Chris Lynn has confirmed he will return early from the Caribbean Premier League to lead the state, while firebrand quick Billy Stanlake is out to prove a point after a sub-standard and wicketless Australia A one-day series.

Queensland bowlers Brendan Doggett and Michael Neser are also with the Australia A first-class squad in India. Queensland open the JLT Cup tournament on September 16 with a match against Victoria in Townsville.

Exciting times :yk3

I’m expecting Pakistan to win every test and T20 game. Also to win the odi series. If they don’t they are the same team.

More than a year without Misbah and Younis. We should be winning this series. Australian batting line up is weak without Smith and Warner. Their 2nd spinner should be targeted, a lot of pressure will be on Lyon.

A must win test series for me.

Again it is very annoying that:

1. Only 2 tests though this looks like becoming the norm

2. The Dubai test is from Sunday to Thursday and so no weekend play and hence perhaps 100 spectators per day. The weekends do actually see some decent crowds in the UAE especially in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. it is beyond belief that a schedule can't be arranged that utilises Fri and Sat for tests. Some Friday tests in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have seen crowds of over 10,000.
