Which two new teams would you recommend adding to the PSL in 2026?

Tbh i dont see any way forward for psl by just relying on ipl refuse and washed up 40 year internationals.
Either invest in young players or just pay some top intl cricketers more than ipl qnd get tgem into psl which is surely not gonna happen.

Lol thats not point tbh.
I am not asking about his performance or else it is just i think psl can never compete with ipl if they follow the same way.
I think they have to involve big money overseas Pakistanis in it now.
Why would a player even come to psl if the hughest u can offer is 1.5 crore inr while even a nobody gets 2 crore in ipl

I am not taking a dig, realistic question.

4 overseas players from each team, so 32 international players, let’s say 1 backup each. So 40 active overseas players not playing the IPL.

On top of that nearly a 100 domestic white ball or all format players as well.

I think well oiled 5-6 teams were ideal. no hate just my assessment.

It's a fair point.

At times the overseas picks can be quite random and low quality, and they can edge out a better local player.

I'd be happy with 2-3 overseas players. Just because IPL has 4 doesn't mean it has to be the standard for us. However there is demand for fans for overseas regardless whether they are big name or not so if it keeps viewers happy then the number won't change

It’s not just overseas players right, you have to fill squads with pool of local players, even in the IPL due to high volume of the squads, there are some domestic players who are bottom of the barrel in the sense they may never come close to even being part of A-B sides in any format. 8 teams into minimum squads of 15, that’s a pool of 120 players, let’s say even 30 are overseas, then you need to pull together 90 local players domestic + international. Maybe Pakistan has the pool or will have the pool in the future but is it sustainable?

Quality will start to tail off for sure but there are older players and test pros that could give be a given shot in T20. Guys like Nomi, Sajid, Umar Siddiq, Imran Butt, Hairura, Imam ul Haq

Not t20 players before anyone misunderstands what I am saying but could pad out a team and who knows what can happen and they will be short term anyway.

Long term you want franchises to be ultra ruthless and implement their own player development programmes to unearth and groom their own players

There's enough talent for T20.

Recently our emerging players comfortably beat India's emerging players and also won the cup.
 
PSL to host second roadshow in New York: sources

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will stage its second landmark show in New York after the star-studded event at The Lord's in London, sources told Geo Super on Thursday.

According to the insiders, the event in New York could be held by the end of next week and may be attended by the Test and T20I captains of the national men's team, Shan Masood and Salman Ali Agha, respectively, alongside renowned national cricketer Saud Shakeel.

The event will follow PSL's exclusive roadshow at The Home of Cricket, scheduled to be held on December 7, and is expected to attract a diverse audience of business leaders, potential franchise owners and cricket supporters eager to engage with one of the sport's most dynamic and fast-growing leagues.

The initiative underscores the league's commitment to global expansion, strategic partnerships and delivering world-class entertainment and cricketing excellence.

The event in London will be graced by the country's famed cricketing figures, including star batter Babar Azam and legendary pacer Wasim Akram, while renowned artist Ali Zafar is set to perform.

"London Roadshow brings cricket's biggest names to the Home of Cricket. Join us for an exclusive evening with Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan, Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja & Ali Zafar," the PSL wrote on its social media handles.

It is pertinent to mention that the PSL, which began in 2016 with five franchises, is set to expand further with the addition of two new teams. The league had first expanded to five teams in 2018 with the inclusion of Multan Sultans.

With the upcoming additions, the PSL will undergo its first major restructuring in seven years, bringing the total number of franchises to eight.

‘Base prices for new PSL franchises set at Rs1.30 billion per year’

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised the valuation of all six existing Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises to nearly three times their previous prices, and has also set a hefty base price of Rs1.30 billion per year for each of the two new franchises, well-placed sources told Dawn.

The PCB has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the revised valuations, diverging from the practice adopted at the league’s launch in 2016.

However, sources privy to the development said the new prices represent an almost threefold increase. Unlike 2016, when franchise prices were quoted in US dollars, the board has now shifted all league-related financial dealings to Pakistani rupees.

In the inaugural season, Quetta Gladiators — champions of the 2019 edition — were the lowest-valued franchise with an annual fee of USD 1.1 million for a 10-year ownership period. At the time, the exchange rate stood at Rs105 per dollar, compared to over Rs280 today.

According to sources, Quetta Gladiators once again carry the lowest valuation among the existing teams, now priced at around Rs360 million per year.

The valuation of Peshawar Zalmi — winners of the 2017 edition — has climbed to approximately Rs480 million per year, up from their earlier price of USD 1.6 million.

Karachi Kings, the 2020 champions, have been priced at Rs650 million per year compared to their earlier USD 2.6 million valuation.

Lahore Qalandars — winners of the 2022, 2023 and 2025 editions — will now cost Rs670 million per year, marginally higher than Karachi Kings, up from their previous USD 2.5 million valuation.

Multan Sultans, who joined the league after the first two editions and initially held the highest price tag at USD 6.3 million, have received a revised valuation of Rs1.08 billion per year.

The franchise, which clinched the 2021 title, changed ownership earlier after previous owner Ali Tareen publicly criticised the PCB over various administrative matters related to the league. All other franchises have retained their ownership rights for the next 10 editions.

Sources added that the PCB has not increased the annual player budget for the franchises, which remains capped at USD 1.4 million per team.

The PCB has held a roadshow in London to attract investors for the two new franchises as well as for Multan Sultans.

The board has shortlisted six cities — Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit — from which two will be finalised to expand the PSL to eight teams. Despite the international roadshow, the PCB has no plans to hold similar events domestically to draw local investors.

However, the board announced on Wednesday that it is going to host a roadshow in New York City on Saturday.

According to a PCB press release, the New York event is part of the board’s global outreach strategy to engage international investors ahead of the auction of two new PSL franchises, scheduled January 6 next year.

The initiative is intended to showcase the league’s commercial strength, global following, and long-term growth potential.

Six Pakistan men’s team players are set to participate in the USA event, including T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, along with Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, and Saud Shakeel.

Because not everyone will get a chance to play IPL… it still has 4 foreign players limit.
 
I think adding 2 teams is a good decision.

6 teams was too less considering 4 teams were qualifying for the playoffs.

You already have two teams in the PSL from Punjab, you don't need to add another right now.

Go for Hyderabad & Muzaffarabad.

Punjab's population is 60-70% of the country. It doesn't matter if the next two teams are from Punjab. We need teams with big fan followings, history, commercial strength and ready home stadiums. The two teams which fit the bill are Faisalabad and Sialkot.

if they want geographic spread should be sialkot and hyderabad, if they want largest potential fan followings should be sialkot and rawalpindi, altho pindi might takes a few fans away from islamabad.
 
12 parties file Bids for two new HBL Pakistan Super League teams

Lahore, 24 December 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an exceptional and encouraging response to the tender issued for the sale of two new franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). Within the stipulated deadline, 12 parties have formally submitted their bids.

These bidders belong to five continents, including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan, which clearly reflects the PSL’s growing global popularity and commercial appeal.

According to the PCB, the results of this phase of the bidding process will be announced on 27 December. In the next stage, technically qualified bidders will be given the opportunity to purchase the two new teams through an open competition bidding process.

This stage will be held on 8 January at the Islamabad Convention Centre. The Pakistan Cricket Board is committed to completing this process in a transparent and competitive manner in line with international standards, to ensure the continued expansion and growth of the HBL Pakistan Super League.

Pindi and Islamabad are twin cities.Any two from Sialkot,Faisalabad and Hyderabad will have lots of fans but since there are only two new teams one of these cities will miss out.

Alongside the solar energy firm Inverex, Arif Habib Group is among 12 interested parties vying for the slots as the PSL expands from six to eight teams.

The surge in interest led the PCB to extend its deadline multiple times.
