Ramiz Raja in presser today:

"We want to discourage our elite players from signing up for additional off-season events. We feel the players are better off not going to these leagues. We will pay them 50 to 60 percent of the contract amount they are offered where required"

"This is a very important season for us we don't want our players to be tired or burnt out. We want them to be ready and fresh to go for national duties."

Don't necessarily agree with this. Pakistani players don't play that much cricket anyways. Players should be allowed to get good experience abroad and build connections.

Good, elite players are playing in too many useless leagues , risking injuries and burn out .

Would be good if they can afford that. I think leagues here and there for non established players isn't the worst but you also don't want to see players like Shaheen being bowled into the ground when he needs much needed rest.

Based on the comment, it's only for some players like Shaheen/Rizwan/Babar/Rauf etc but likely not for non core players.

Playing nonsense like Abu Dhabi should be prohibited but we've seen careers being built in places like Australia and England.

We should be encouraging our players to go play in England especially.

What are they going to do while sitting at home? We don't play much cricket either. All we've been doing for last 3 years is playing t20is.

If it was England or Aus, they could really make a good case about it.

Why to stop the batters from going? Not like Pak plays such a demanding schedule.
It is good for Babar, Shaheen etc to visit Hundred, CPL to evolve and improve different facets of their game like power hitting/death bowling.

If rest is needed, maybe can give them a break from Zimbabwe/West Indies LOI tours and try out some new players.

Wonder how WICB/SLC/WICB/BCB/ECB will react if PCB pulls off such a move. Would they then retaliate with their players availability for PSL?

They can but they should compensate players in some way as doing a knee-jerk reaction will not benefit.

Yes of course. I just see this as a sign of a future where leagues realise their worth is tied with the stars they feature and it might soon make sense for them to protect that exclusivity.

BCCI gets away with it because they are all too powerful and can control who plays in IPL. For other boards it will have to be monetary incentive as just the league contracts might not be lucrative enough to tie the player down.

This could soon be a 'problem' or an opportunity to get the league structure worldwide organised and have some rules surrounding player participation/availability. I would love for BCCI to be challenged for barring Indian players (even the non popular ones) from participating in foreign leagues.

I think its good for players to play in other leagues. It's always good for experience for players to play on other surfaces.

The money paying them can go into investing in the domestic scene.

I can't imagine all the players being happy about this as financially they will lose out.

I'd be surprised if this goes ahead.

Got to protect Babar, Shaheen & Rizwan though. These guys play all 3 formats and are our gun players.

This should only apply to pacers as their workload needs monitoring but batsmen like Babar, Rizwan and spinners like Imad are okay.

I think they should do this on a case by case basis rather than a general rule.

Big part of improvement in Pakistan has been playing in foreign leagues - the work ethic, training regimen and language skills are developed.

Different exposure is good.

One cannot teach this to someone - a lot of this is obtained with exposure.

I would love to see babar azam play in BBL for instance as well as CPL.
