Has PCB taken the right decision to deny NOCs for Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi?

The Pakistan Cricket Board has provided the following update on the player NOC requests for the Global T20 due to be played in Canada later this month:

“The PCB had received NOC requests from Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi for the Global T20 event, amongst other players. After taking into consideration Pakistan’s busy and packed cricket calendar in the period from August 2024 to March 2025, which includes nine ICC World Test Championship matches and next year’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and following consultations with the three players as well as the national selection committee, it has been decided to decline their requests.

“The three are all-format cricketers and their services are expected to be required in the upcoming eight months during which Pakistan will play nine Tests, 14 ODIs, and nine T20Is. As such, and in line with the PCB’s workload management policy, it is in the best interest of Pakistan cricket and the players that they skip the upcoming event in Canada so that they are in their best mental and physical shape for the season, which commences with the two-Test series against Bangladesh.”

Earlier, the PCB had also declined permission to Naseem Shah for The Hundred on the same grounds.

In the meantime, the PCB has approved NOCs for Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Nawaz. The four players are predominantly white-ball cricketers, while Iftikhar and Nawaz are centrally contracted players.

We could see players reject the central contracts if a two tier system is put in place.

I'm not too fussed about the Canada League. But if the PCB tries to clamp down on players and also alienates boards like the ECB via denials during the 100 it will find itself in a lonely place.

With the MLC happening, these three wanted the clownery of vacationing in Canada and playing a second grade league. Atleast go for something competitive.

Good FROM PCB ,make international cricket no.1 priority how many leagues Babar want to play he was also in reckoning for Sphaeegza league as per reports.

PCB must not offer them any central contract now ... on which performances they get paid millions of rupees. its a best time to teach them a lesson. specially to Big 3s.

Yeah that’s not up to Babar and Rizwan. No proper T20 franchise wants to invest in them unfortunately

Someone send this to Naqvi

This is a guy whose getting paid many $ a month and is unwilling to move from his spot to allow natural openers play in their position!
Rizwan 8 of 17 lol, how much did rizzu score overall?

Agreed. They're not bringing anything to the table, which is dissapointing.

And to then sneak into a second grade league for a paid vacation is an embarrassment of the highest order.

The reason Imad gets picked is because teams realise he is utility in t20. A utility pakistan doesn't know how to utilise properly.

He's an economical bowler who can bat a bit and can usually get a key wicket of the danger man due to his t20 darters.

Rizwan on the other hand doesn't provide any utility.

Logically think about it. If you're managing your league team and you have to select from a pool of Pakistani players,

Why would you select a wicket keeper who has to be adjusted for opening, because said wicket keeper can't perform in the middle order? And if the keeper is opening why would you select one who is a non PP utiliser.

In comparison choosing an allrounder in Imad is just an overall better option regardless of quality.

Seems like we are stuck with Babar, Rizwan and SSA for the foreseeable future unfortunately... More toxicity, more power-hungry politics, lots more abysmal performances..

Pakistan cricket down the drain, PCB doing its best to push it down further..

The sad thing about this is that they are still considered “all format” players.

🤡 world
Maybe the ‘all format’ thing is a kind way of declining. InshaAllah these guys decide not to be all format and retire from T20I

Good. Marquee players are getting over exposed by playing all these sundry leagues.
Bur at the same time, PCB need to increase contract money so that the players are not demotivated.

Building exclusion of top 20 players will make people wait for PCB products - either Pak national or PSL to watch their favorites in action

It's what BCCI has done successfully since IPL. Only in rare cases they allow test only players to play county cricket but even that's regulated strictly.

Good stuff by PCB. I am happy that they denied their NOCs. WHY? because these guys were spreading too much negativity in the team. EGOS and BAD ATTITUDES is no good for any team.

PCB should let these guys know that they should not be taking things for granted and if they do not let their egos and hatred aside, these kinds of things will happen.

As long as PCB stop lying with reasons like

“The three are all-format cricketers and their services are expected to be required in the upcoming eight months during which Pakistan will play nine Tests, 14 ODIs, and nine T20Is. and say that they want these players to go back to the nets, NCA etc and work on their deficiencies instead of playing in leagues where they get no chance to fix their problems, then this will be of no use.

A typical PCB PR stunt to show everyone how serious they are about 'changing things'. Nothing will change because for things to change, you actually need to understand what the problem is. This bumbling PCB regime is incapable of doing that. They are all about PR stunts and creating this fake image of progress and change to fool people who can't see right through their B.S.

The release sounds more like the PCB begged these three not to play in this league.

Bobby and Riz probably think runs in these no name T20 leagues will be counted against their overall T20 runs and hence don't want to miss opportunity to stats pad in any of these.
:inti

Big big loss for their agent. Wouldn’t be surprised if these 3 still get paid somehow

Babar's chums with their spots guaranteed in the PAK team get NOCs and make money abroad while ignoring Pakistan's domestic leagues and progression to the green cap
