Genuinely wonder what’s happening with Mohammad Zeeshan, Basit Ali and Arham Nawab? Those boys were the standouts in the PJL and seemed to have a high upside.

Bro, Saj are you aware of what’s happened with the lot of them? They’ve gone from being the most promising U19s to seemingly vanishing.

Does anyone have any idea about this?

Shahzaib’s century gives Pakistan U19 one-day series win

Rajshahi, 13 May 2023:

Shahzaib Khan’s unbeaten century led Pakistan U19 to an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh U19 in the fourth one-day at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Saturday. The win gives Pakistan U19 an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing 200 runs to win, the opening pair of Shahzaib and Azan Awais provided a solid 152-run start to the innings. The left-handed Azan, who scored 105 in the second one-day match, was the first one to return back to the hut after scoring a 91-ball 52, which included seven boundaries.

Shamyl Hussain (7, 12b, 1x4) was next to join Azan as Pakistan U19 were 167 for two in 32.4 overs. At that moment, captain Saad Baig partnered with Shahzaib to stitch an unbroken 35 runs for the third wicket to help the side achieve the target in the 37th over. In the partnership, Shahzaib brought up his century and returned unbeaten on 105 off 105 deliveries, smashing 14 fours and one six.

After being put into bat, Bangladesh U19 were dismissed for 199 in 46.4 overs. Ariful Islam top-scored for his side with a 95-ball 50, which included four fours and one six.

For Pakistan U19, right-arm fast Aimal Khan and left-arm spinner Ali Asfand bagged three wickets each.

Both sides will now feature in the fifth match of the series at the same venue on Monday, 15 May. Pakistan U19, who have earlier won the solitary four-day match by 10 wickets played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, will aim to end the 50-over series 4-1.

Bangladesh U19 199 all out, 46.4 overs (Ariful Islam 50, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby 34, Parviz Rahman Jibon 30; Aimal Khan 3-34, Ali Asfand 3-39, Arafat Minhas 2-26)

Pakistan U19 202-2, 36.5 overs (Shahzaib Khan 105 not out, Azan Awais 52, Saad Baig 29 not out)

Player of the match – Shahzaib Khan (Pakistan U19)

Azan Awais can be a good long format batsman but he needs to improve his power hitting game to have any future in white ball cricket.

Saad Baig really needs to promote himself a bit further up the order to give himself a bit more time in the middle.

Beating BD u19 is not child’s play , they are always among the top 3 in the world at junior level and it looks like Pak u19 this time got some serious batting and bowling talent.

Amir Hasan has a beautiful bowling action. Too often the left armers are slingy and offer little into right handers, but with that action he will move it in sharply. I saw a young right bowler in the PJL also with a beautiful bowling action. He isn't part of BD tour

Having watched the highlights I can safely say that BD U19 is really poor this time around apart from couple of batter and one pace bowler , On the other hand Pak team is also pretty good talent wise ,

The openers are brilliant in putting price on their wicket as well as having shots all around the ground , Shahzaib has a problem playing incoming delivery but has shots all round the ground , Azan looks like Nasir Jamshed with shades of Umar Akmal in playing street smart cricket , Saad Baig is decent , Shamyl Looks stylish whenever he is going but has too many weaknesses to get sorted ,

Tayyab Arif is very classy but lacks strength and power game , Amir Hassan action is very good for an inswinger but he lacks pace and bowls mostly around 126-133Ks , Ismail seems to have gained a bit pace I thin he is now around 135-140k compare to 130-139K previously , Aimal bowls another 136-143k bowler but bowls too many bad bowls in every over but has a knack of bowling a jaffa of a delivery ,

Ali Asfand is Zulfi baba part 2 with good control , Arafat Minhas is nothing more than a part time spinner , so as Obaid Shahid (His batting is stylish though and has a power game too) , We definitely need Zeeshan and Ali Raza back and fit in the squad for our seam attack to be more dangerous , batting wise we can make couple of changes too from PJL batters.

Good to see PJL trundlers have their pace up and in closing of becoming a genuine fast medium bowlers who can hit 145k every now and then. Hopefully they will get more pace as the world cup is far away.

Shaheens had Zimbos 5 down so early on. All the hard work undone now. Run rate is pretty good too.

Awful batting by Shaheens so far...no idea how pace an innings. No idea how to analyse what bowlers could be attacked of the opponents etc.

Close win for Zimbabwe over shaheens. It is a full strength Zimbabwe team as expected though, in preparation for WCQ.

I think lots of mistakes to learn from. They were 5 down by 50odd should have finished them off. Then batting were reckless shots and how can you let their spinners take wickets.

Can't even win against Zimbabwe A team. Even India any Ranji team 2nd eleven can beat this weak Zimbabwe team.

Some of Zimbabwe A players play in thier first team such as muzarabani,Tendai Chatara,Sean Williams.

Exactly it's a full strength Zimbabwe team. I don't think thier one player who has played in Pakistan main squad that has played more than 15 matches combined formats.

Zimbabwe Select beat Pakistan Shaheens by 24 runs

Harare, 17 May 2023:

Zimbabwe Select beat Pakistan Shaheens by 24 runs in the first one-day of the six-match series here at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Wednesday.

This was Pakistan Shaheens’ first loss on the tour after they won both four-day matches.

After being put into bat by Pakistan Shaheens captain Imran Butt, the fast bowlers (Aamir Jamal, Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani) made sure they exact the best out of the wicket as the hosts were 64 for five in 13.2 overs. At that moment, Ryan Burl and Clive Madande got together and added 90 runs for the sixth wicket. Burl (69, 68b, 6x4s, 2x6s) and Madande (34, 55b, 3x4s), lifted Zimbabwe Select to 234 before the hosts were bowled out.

Vice-captain Hussain Talat and Kamran Ghulam got together and the pair stitched a 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take score to 77 before Hussain (29, 25b, 4x4s, 1x6) fell to Wellington Masakadza. Kamran (42, 64b, 5x4s) was next to go with Shaheens reeling at 106 for five in 23.2 overs.

Good series for Pakistan A as Zimbabwe is playing its main team players.

First time on the tour Zimbabwe pick a strong side, and the Shaheens lose.

Sabih Azhar reviews Pakistan U19 triumph in Bangladesh

Rajshahi, 18 May 2023:

Pakistan U19 will depart from Bangladesh today after a memorable tour, where Pakistan U19 won in all three formats – four-day, one-day and T20 against Bangladesh U19.

The series which was played in two cities of Bangladesh – Chattogram and Rajshahi from 30 April to 17 May, included a one-off four-day, five-match one-day series and a solitary T20 match.

In the four-day match played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from 30 April to 3 May, Pakistan dominated with both bat and ball. Left-handed opening batter Shahzaib Khan scored 174 runs in the first innings, while left-arm spinner Ali Asfand claimed six wickets in the match and nine wickets were shared amongst pacers Amir Hassan and Mohammad Ismail as Pakistan registered a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the hosts.

In the five-match one-day series, the 17-year-old Shahzaib continued his form and was declared player of the series in Pakistan’s 4-1 win. The opening batter scored 264 runs from five matches, which included one century and two half-centuries. His opening partner, Azan Awais, topped the batting charts with 269 runs from five outings in the one-day series. Azan also scored one century and two half-centuries in the series.

In the bowling unit, vice-captain and spinner Ali Asfand bagged 10 wickets. Another left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas and fast bowlers Amir Hassan and Aimal Khan snapped eight wickets each. Left-arm pacer Amir’s eight wickets from four matches include figures of five for 24, which was the only five-fer by any bowler in the one-day series.

In the solitary T20 match at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Wednesday, another left-hander, Shamyl Hussain’s half-century led Pakistan U19 to a remarkable four-wicket win over the hosts. The tourists achieved the challenging 160-run target with five balls to spare.

Head Coach Sabih Azhar, reviewing the performance of the team, said: “It was not easy to beat Bangladesh at their own backyard. I am satisfied with the achievement of the team, but this does not mean we get relaxed; there are still some areas which the coaches have marked and there are still room for improvements in that.

“The players have worked really hard in the practice sessions and they have executed the plans really well on the field, which reflected in team’s performance in the series.

“We are looking ahead now with a focus on finding the best winning combination that consistently performs. Before coming into the series, we not only worked on the players physically, but we also worked on the mental aspect of the game to prepare players for performing at crucial junctures of the match and it showed as the team lost just one match on the tour.

“We are fully focused on doing well in next year’s ICC U19 World Cup, even though there is still time for the event. After the series win, we are now working on how the team can win championships.”

I dont think they had any options but clearly you would think they would learn from their mistakes. Playing 3 seamers again when spinners didnt do anything. Again have then 4 down at 50 but i have a feeling will let them off the hook again

As i said earlier absolutely awful captaincy again...same as last match. I understand you are not playing another seamer but surely mehran is your premier spinner why is he not even bowled yet when mubashir has bowled 4 and gone for plenty of runs.

The way Zim top order is collapsing, it doesn't look good for their WCQ chances. They couldn't have lost Ballance at a worse time. Raza will be a welcome addition though.

For Pakistan, Aamer Jamal seems to be doing really well.

Disappointing from Saim - first ball duck but Huraira looking confident.

Kamran ghulam and saim both exposed badly in this tour.Saim still is young so he can improve but horrible from KG.didnt do much in the 4 day matches either and that wasnt even a strong bowling line up.

Some hope when Imran and Mubasir were batting but quick end after they were both out

Zimbabwe Tail wagged in both matches ..it is very important for everybody to contribute but here our top order cant never mind the tail.

Very disappointing performances so far in one days.

Well when Imran Butt was your captain and Hussain Talat vice captain then this had to happen

2 out of 2 for Zimbabwe. Obviously it's a proper Zimbabwe team minus Sikandar Raza and probably we can say Ngarava...

Good stuff by the Zimbos though.

While its a full Zimbabwe team other than Sikandar which is playing but, definitely better performances were expected from Shaheens.

I think leadership makes a huge difference especially when you have a good but inexperienced outfit vs an experienced team. Imran Butt and Talat werent really the way to go. Someone like Saud Shakeel could have led the one day side better as he has led in domestic cricket as well as emerging teams. Even Umar Amin could have been a good option to lead this young side as he did well as captain and batsman in Pakistan cup. Its not like Imran Butt has much of a white ball future at international level as it stands so why not select a better batsman and captain from domestic setup to lead then him.

Also bit surprising that Tayyab Tahir is not in the squad when he was the top performer in Pakistan Cup and was recently part of the main Pakistan whiteball setup.

U19 squad did really well though, won all the games in BD across the formats. Good to see that.

Some hope when Imran and Mubasir were batting but quick end after they were both out

Pakistan Shaheens lose to Zimbabwe Select in second one-day

Harare, 19 May 2023

An all-round performance from Zimbabwe Select's Blessing Muzarabani handed Pakistan Shaheens a 80-run defeat in the second one-day of the six match series on Friday. This was Pakistan Shaheens' second loss in as many matches.

Muzarabani scored half-century with an unbeaten 24-ball 50 that included seven fours and two sixes. This fighting knock towards the end of the hosts' innings lifted them to 236 before they were bowled out in 38.5 overs.

Zimbabwe Select had a poor start to their innings once again and this time they were five down for 57 before 47 off 60 from Ryan Burl and 43 off 44 from wicketkeeper Clive Madande brought them back into the match.

Pakistan Shaheens all-rounder Aamir Jamal picked up five wickets for 75 in 10 overs and pacer Shahnawaz Dahani took two wickets for 36 runs in eight overs.

Zimbabwe Select began the defense of their total with the wicket of Saim Ayub on the first ball as Tendai Chatara trapped him in front. Pakistan Shaheens kept losing wickets on regular intervals and at a stage were 71 for five before they were bundled out in 38th over.

Mubasir Khan scored 44 off 60 in the lower order to stitch 73 runs with captain Imran Butt, who top-scored with 45 off 81.

The other notable performance came from one-drop Muhammad Huraira as he made 33 off 36. He was dismissed by Muzarabani who also sent Kamran Ghulam, Hussain Talat and Shahnawaz back to the pavilion.

Sean Williams and Victor Nyauchi took two wickets each.

Scores in brief

Zimbabwe Select 236 all out, 38.5 overs (Blessing Muzarabani 50 not out, Ryan Burl 47, Clive Madane 43; Aamir Jamal 5-75, Shahnawaz Dahani 2-36)

Pakistan Shaheens 156 all out, 37.3 overs (Imran Butt 45, Mubasir Khan 44, Muhammad Huraira 33; Blessing Muzarabani 4-23, Sean Williams 2-16, Victor Nyauchi 2-43)

Was expecting a better performance by Pak Shaheens as they are our bench strength.

That's why PCB don't rest their first choice players whenever they play against weaker sides

Was expecting a better performance by Pak Shaheens as they are our bench strength.

Pakistan could still have tried out players like Abrar Ahmed, Mohammed Hasnain, Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafique in this series as they are proper fringe players.

Aamer Jamal for example is an excellent selection. I never heard about Mehran Mumtaz but with the WC around the corner, trying out a. mystery spinner like Abrar Ahmad would have been good. He did well on the flattest of test tracks, why can't he do well in India esp when players will be facing him for the first time? I think Pak are missing a trick here.

It was well known that Zim will play full strength for the ODs, so PCB could have surely sent a stronger team.

Definite concerns about the bench strength.

But are all these players really knocking on the door of the main team - I don't think so.

Scary times if Imran Butt & Hussain Talat are the bench strength.

More concerning this - what basis was the selection made for this tour?

3rd OD:

Pakistan Shaheens won the toss for the third consecutive time and have chosen to bowl first against Zimbabwe Select

Hussain Talat is captaining - Imran Butt is a sub!?

India C team destroyed Zimbabwe full strength team where our so-called talented players are getting thrash by Zimbabwe A team. Most of these players have no future, Will stuck with Babar, Rizwan, Imam, Fakhar for at least another 10 years as main batsmen.

That's what you get when you have selectors like we have now. If you look at the past many times we've seen these selectors choose some appalling A teams. Haroon needs to retire. Retrograde thinking is not the order of the day. The team feels like a select 11 from the 80's.

Exactly!!! Apart from 2-3 players others need to be discarded for good. Even Bangladesh B team can beat Zimba A team without any problem.

Lets see if Saim can get himself settled in and play a long innings

Haseebullah 44* at the moment - all hopes on his head.

Kamran ghulam is so overhyped and he has completely failed on this tour.Cant believe some people want him in the world cup squad.

Amir jamal has proven to be a front line bowler on this tour and has been the best bowler on show and better than the likes of mir hamza and dahani.

Absolutely all those people saying he is the next messiah..how many oppertunities has he had.

Only guy impressed me has been haseebullah was run out last game and wrongly given in this. Amir jamal has done well with the ball but nothing with the bat so far

Disappointed with Kamran Ghulam.Talat and Imran Butt should not have been in the team.Muhammad Ali is close to 31 years. It makes no sense to have in Shaheen’s squad.Arshad Iqbal and Sameen Gul should be given a chance.

Shaheens pull one back, I don't know why they didn't use the lights because I think they recently got installed at the Harare Sports club. I'm not entirely sure if the work is completed though.

Qasim Akram is a fine talent, I think he is one for Pak to keep an eye on.

Qasim Akram, Shahnawaz Dahani help Shaheens win on DLS

Harare, 21 May 2023:

An unbeaten half-century by Qasim Akram and four wickets from Shahnawaz Dahani helped Pakistan Shaheens beat Zimbabwe Select by five runs on DLS in the third one-day of the six-match series.

This was Shaheens’ first win in the one-day series as the hosts lead the series 2-1. Both sides will now feature in the fourth one-day match at the same venue on Tuesday, 23 May.

Chasing 279 to win, the opening pair of Mohammad Huraira (19, 29b, 3x4s) and Saim Ayub (28, 25b, 5x4s) provided a 47-run start to the innings. After the departure of both batters in the space of five balls, wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah and Omair Bin Yousuf got together and knitted a 60-run partnership for the third wicket. Omair – who was playing his first match in the one-day series – departed in the 22nd over after scoring 29 off 38 deliveries, which included three fours.

From 107 for three in 21.2 overs, the tourists went on to lose three more wickets for just 62 runs which included the well-set Haseebullah (49, 60b, 6x4s) and were struggling as the scoreboard read 169 for six in 33.2 overs. At that point, 21-year-old Mubasir Khan and 20-year-old Qasim Akram got together and stitched a 67-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Mubasir’s innings (30, 32b, 3x4s) came to an end in the 42nd over, with Shaheens still requiring 43 runs to win from 49 balls.

At the other end, Qasim remained calm and composed and took Shaheens home with two wickets in hand. The light faded in the 47th over of the innings and Shaheens won the match by five runs on DLS. Player of the match Qasim scored an unbeaten 57 off 40 balls, smashing seven fours and one six.

For Zimbabwe Select, Tendai Chatara took four wickets for 53 from 9.5 overs.

Earlier, Pakistan Shaheens made three changes to their playing XI, with tourists’ stand-in captain for the game Hussain Talat winning the toss and electing to field first. The hosts once again struggled as five of their batters were back to the hut in 28.4 overs with 137 runs on the board. At that crucial juncture of the innings, Sean Williams (78, 59b, 6x4s, 3x6s) and Clive Madande (22, 27b, 1x4) added 65 runs for the sixth wicket. After the departure of both the set batters, Zimbabwe Select were dismissed for 278 on the final ball of the innings.

For Shaheens, right-arm pacers Shahnawaz Dahani (10-0-43-4) and Aamir Jamal (10-0-60-3) shared seven wickets between them.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan Shaheens beat Zimbabwe Select by five runs on DLS

Zimbabwe Select 278 all out, 50 overs (Sean Williams 78, Wessly Madhevere 41; Shahnawaz Dahani 4-43, Aamir Jamal 3-60)

Pakistan Shaheens 263-8, 46.5 overs (Qasim Akram 57 not out, Haseebullah 49, Mubasir Khan 30; Tendai Chatara 4-53, Wellington Masakadza 2-44)

Player of the match – Qasim Akram (Pakistan Shaheens)
