PCB name U19 and Shaheens squads for the tours of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe

Disappointed with Kamran Ghulam.Talat and Imran Butt should not have been in the team.Muhammad Ali is close to 31 years. It makes no sense to have in Shaheen’s squad.Arshad Iqbal and Sameen Gul should be given a chance.

+1 on Arshad Iqbal. Why he wasn't selected is a travesty. I'd also liked to see Abbas Afridi there. Some terrible selections, indeed.

I forgot about Abbas Afridi.I think Abdullah Shafiq should have been selected too.He is talented but needs experience. It would have helped him to gain confidence.

Absolutely.

Abbass Afridi is a white ball gem!

Good to see qasim get opportunities - Karachi wrongly dropped him in the psl after a game or two.

The selection is still a mess. They are playing 2 specialist bowlers one of whom only plays fc.

And as others have pointed out could have been a great series for abrar, usama, zaman, shafique and haris. The current fringe players who have no national team commitments at the moment.

Zimbabwe Select have won the toss and are fielding first in the fourth one-day match

So Imran Butt still dropped - guess injured.

too much movement in the morning..this will be a real rest for the batters. If Bangalzai is playing then who has he replaced from last game.

Hurraira looked all at sea...i think omair yusuf is more talented then hurraira but defo looks like a poor man Yunus Khan so hopefully will improve over years

Pakistan Shaheens set Zimbabwe Select 296 runs to win in 50 overs

(Yousuf 153, Ghulam 55, Khan 22; Evans 5/62, W. Masakadza 2/45, B. Muzarabani 1/51)

getting battered at the moment..Zimbabwe dropped 7 catches in the above total and we have dropped one dolly so far

Huraira, Bangalzai and Haseebullah have to be the most overrated young talent right now

Incredible run chase this by Zimbabwe! They've literally thrashed this Shaheens bowling like up today.

Ervine, Gumbie centuries hand Pakistan Shaheens seven-wicket defeat

Harare, 23 May 2023:

Zimbabwe Select got an unassailable lead in the six-match one-day series against Pakistan Shaheens on Tuesday as centuries from Craig Ervine and Joylord Gumbie helped them to a seven-wicket win in the fourth match at the Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe Select chased down the 296-run target with ease thanks to a mammoth second-wicket stand of 277 runs between Ervine and Gumbie.

Ervine top-scored in the match with 161 off 144 (19 fours and three sixes), overshadowing Omair Bin Yousuf’s 153, and his partner Gumbie, who opened the innings with Tadiwanashe Marumani (four off two), made 111 off 124 (10 fours).

The pair had come together after Pakistan Shaheens dismissed Marumani in the second over, but the tourists failed to make any further inroads as Ervine and Gumbie put up a solid stand. The other two wickets came in the 45th and 46th overs.

That Pakistan Shaheens posted a target of 296 was because of Omair’s 153 off 126. The right-handed batter struck 14 fours and four sixes and provided stability in the middle order after his side had lost three wickets for 55. The 24-year-old Karachi-born stitched a 139-run partnership with Kamran Ghulam, who made 55 off 79, for the fourth wicket.

Once the partnership was broken in the 39th over, fast bowler Brad Evans made the most of the opening and recorded a five-wicket haul with five for 62 in 10 overs.

The two teams will meet on Thursday at the same venue for the fifth one-day with the scoreline reading 3-1.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan Shaheens 295-9, 50 overs (Omair Bin Yousuf 153, Kamran Ghulam 55, Haseebullah 22; Brad Evans 5-62, Wellington Masakadza 2-45)

Zimbabwe Select 299-3, 47.3 overs (Craig Ervine 161, Joylord Gumbie 111; Shahnawaz Dahani 2-60)

Player of the match – Craig Ervine (Zimbabwe Select)

Our inexperienced youngsters vs Zimbabwean veterans. Can't blame them.
But who appointed talat as captain.. Lol

5th OD between Zimbabwe Select and Shaheens

Zimbabwe Select have won the toss and are fielding first in the fifth one-day match

Very odd that Hussain Talat is captain but Imran Butt is playing as well?!

Rohail and Haseebullah playing i guess its just rotation. No idea why Mir Hamza isnt playing and Saim must be ill obviously.

Who made Talat captain? The guy shouldn't be playing let alone captaining the side.

Decent scores from Imran Butt and Haseebullah

PAKA 221/4 (38) CRR: 5.82

280+ looks doable from this point.

Talat out for 7 today. In the 5 ODI matches he played on this tour he has averaged 12.2. His bowling stats aren't much better, he has taken 0 wickets while conceding 118 runs. Add to that his amateurish fielding and he's an all-round bang average player.

I wonder whose brilliant idea it was to make Talat captain.

Omair Yousuf doing so well!

Omair Yusuf appears to be a good talent. Him and Qasim Akram have looked impressive amongst the batters.

Jamal can surely be in the frame for WC as a fast bowling AR.

Haseebullah, Imran, Omair half-centuries keep Shaheens alive

Harare, 25 May 2023:

Half-centuries by Haseebullah, Imran Butt and Omair Bin Yousuf and three-fers from Qasim Akram and Shahnawaz Dahani helped Pakistan Shaheens beat Zimbabwe Select by 177 runs in the fifth one-day of the sixth-match series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.

This was Shaheens’ second win in the one-day series as the hosts lead the series 3-2. The final match of the series will be played at the same venue on Saturday, 27 May.

Chasing 315 to win, the hosts were never in a position to win the game as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 137 in 31.4 overs. Only wicketkeeper-batter Clive Madande top-scored for his side, scoring an unbeaten 41 off 46, hitting five fours.

For Shaheens, right-arm fast Dahani and right-arm off-spinner Qasim bagged three wickets each. Left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz took two wickets for 36 from seven overs.

Earlier, after being put into bat, Shaheens scored 314 for six in their allotted 50 overs. Making three changes to their side in the must-win game, Shaheens got off to a great start as opening batters Imran Butt (64, 65b, 7x4s, 1x6) and Haseebullah (62, 77b, 9x4s) had a 139-run stand between them. After the departure of Haseebullah and Imran in the 24th over, Omair and Rohail Nazir stitched a 55-run partnership for the third wicket.

Soon after Rohail’s (16, 24b, 1x4) departure, Shaheens lost three wickets for 32 runs as they were in a spot of bother with 250 for six in 42.3 overs. At that crucial juncture, well-settled Omair was joined by Aamir Jamal and the pair knitted an unbroken 64 runs for the seventh wicket.

Player of the match Omair continued his rich vein of form with an undefeated 89 off 87 deliveries, having already amassed two centuries and a half-century on the tour before today’s match. Aamir played a bright cameo as he scored an unbeaten 24 off 18 balls, hitting two fours and a six.

For Zimbabwe Select, Brandon Mavuta took two wickets for 39 from eight overs.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan Shaheens beat Zimbabwe Select by 177 runs

Pakistan Shaheens 314-6, 50 overs (Omair Bin Yousuf 89 not out, Imran Butt 64, Haseebullah 62; Brandon Mavuta 2-39)

Zimbabwe Select 137 all out, 31.4 overs (Clive Madande 41 not out; Qasim Akram 3-9, Shahnawaz Dahani 3-29, Mehran Mumtaz 2-36)

Player of the match – Omair Bin Yousuf (Pakistan Shaheens)

1. Why is Kamran Ghulam captain?
2. Why did we choose to chase?

Yeah I think overall Shaheens have done well. Zimbabwe were almost full strength every game so it was very good series for the both the teams. Playing against a side with so much international experience will be good for this shaheens team.

Aizaz Cheema reviews Pakistan Shaheens performance in Zimbabwe

Harare, 28 May 2023:

Pakistan Shaheens will depart from Zimbabwe today after featuring in a series of two four-dayers and six 50-over matches from 3 to 27 May 2023.

The series was played in three cities of Zimbabwe – Kwekwe, Mutare and Harare, with four-dayers hosted in Kwekwe and Mutare, while the six 50-over matches were staged at the Harare Sports Club.

In the first four-day match played at the Kwekwe Sports Club in Kwekwe, Shaheens defeated Zimbabwe A by eight wickets. The highlight of the match was centuries by Omair Bin Yousuf and Mohammad Huraira and 11 wickets from left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz.

In the second four-day match played at the Mutare Sports Club in Mutare, wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah’s second first-class century and seven wickets from Mohammad Ali helped Shaheens to an impressive innings and 41-run win over the hosts.

At the end of two four-dayers, Shaheens’ 24-year-old Omair led the batting charts with 348 runs from three innings, which included his highest first-class score of 250 not out in the first four-dayer. Huraira – who has featured in 24 first-class matches – finished second on the batting charts with 242 runs from two innings at an average of 121.

In the bowling charts, 20-year-old Mehran bagged 15 wickets from two matches, which included two five-fers in an innings. He was equally supported by right-arm fast Mohammad Ali, who remained second on the bowling list with 11 wickets from two matches.

Shaheens then took on Zimbabwe Select for six one-day matches. The Zimbabwe Select line-up consisted of the first-choice players representing the national side, as they viewed the limited-overs series as a chance to prepare themselves for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023, set to take place in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July.

While Zimbabwe Select won the hard-fought six one-day match series 4-2, several Shaheens’ batters and bowlers stood out with strong performances in the series. Omair, who was the top run-getter in the red-ball series, stood second on the batting charts in the white-ball series with 275 runs from four matches, which included 153 in the fourth one-day – his maiden List A century.

Mubasir Khan, the 21-year-old right-handed batter finished with 238 runs from five outings in the series, which included a valiant 115 that went in vain during a steep 386-run chase in the sixth one-day match.

In the bowling unit, Shaheens’ right-arm pacers Aamir Jamal and Shahnawaz Dahani dominated the wickets tally. Aamir topped the table with 16 wickets from six matches, which included one five-wicket haul, while Dahani took 13 wickets from six outings, with four for 43 his best figures in a match.

Head Coach Aizaz Cheema, reviewing the performance of the team, said: “I am extremely proud of the young players in the Pakistan Shaheens team who showcased their skills and potential during the tour. In the two four-dayers, players like Mehran Mumtaz, Omair Bin Yousuf, Mohammad Huraira, and Haseebullah displayed exceptional performances, contributing significantly to our victories. It was a great testament to their talent and dedication to the game.

“However, I am disappointed with our performance in the six-match 50-over series against Zimbabwe Select, where we lost 4-2. As a team, we couldn't perform to our full potential and failed to capitalise on the opportunities presented to us. Had we seized those chances, the outcome could have been different. It was a missed opportunity, and we will work on rectifying our mistakes and improving our team cohesion.

“I must acknowledge the impressive performance of our fast bowlers, who consistently picked up wickets during the 50-over series. Their contributions were instrumental in keeping us in the game and putting pressure on the opposition. In the batting department, Omair Bin Yousuf, Mubasir Khan, and Qasim Akram stood out with their run-scoring abilities, showcasing their potential for the future.

“We will analyse our performances, identify areas for improvement, and work tirelessly to strengthen our team's performance. The Zimbabwe tour has provided valuable lessons and experiences for our young players, and we will use these as stepping stones towards future success. Pakistan Shaheens team is determined to bounce back stronger and continue to develop and groom talented players for the senior national side.”

So we bossed the red ball matches as expected but lost pretty convincingly in the ODI leg.

Bit of a reality check for some of our youngsters. Saim Ayub and Mohammad Huraira were a total disappointment in the ODIs.

We keep hearing from some fans how Kamran Ghulam has been unfairly sidelined but a mediocre display against Zimbabwe hasn't helped his cause.

Imran Butt and Hussain Talat should've been nowhere near this tour. Shaheens tours should be reserved for players untested at international level. Neither has pulled up any trees for Pakistan.

Omair Yousuf however came in and grabbed his chance while Mubasir Khan plundered some runs but his bowling seemed ineffectual.

Mubasir can play as a 5th bowling option who can bat at 7.

I was more disappointed in the playing xi.
