According to news reports, Umar Akmal didn’t report a Spot fixing approach to underperform in the PSL.
Why pay him to do something he could do for free?

This is actually a very bad thing for PSL.
I dislike Umar Akmal alot, and would never want him in the team. But this ban is going to be proven very bad for PSL.
They should had waited until PSL was over.
Now a days, you get more following and views from meme content. Whatever gets posted on the internet as a social media meme it brings views.
Umar Akmal's social media antics had made him into a joker and alot of people laugh at him. WHen he would had come to play, he was bound to do something stupid (or even good) and that would had converted into meme content which had meanth more views coming in.
Social media memes are no jokes, and i think its time they are taken serious.
I dont think PCB will suspend one of their premium PSL stars right before the tournament starts just for failing to report an approach. It has to be something more serious
It could be ICC giving them no choice, but we'll see.
Hopefully Quetta is smart with their replacement, someone could get the chance theyve always needed.
You are looking at this the wrong way round.
If Majeed was telling the truth - and even the prosecution acknowledged that he had no possible motive to be lying as he was risking a heavier sentence if/when he was caught - that means simply that Amir, Asif and Butt were caught while even guiltier men got away with it.
What else is left.
How many more times is this guy going to drag himself, his family and Pakistan cricket down.
It's probably very difficult for even the most die-hard supporters of Umar to support him now.
I echo every word that you have written - and I am one of those people. What else is left.

According to media reports:
Umar Akmal apparently spoke to a notorious person (bookie?) and that conversation was recorded and found by PCB ACU
Umar Akmal had no option but to accept his mistake of talking to this person and not reporting it

I think they will give him a 6 month ban similar to what Irfan got.
Although I generally would (have) liked Umar Akmal in the Test team, this story is very believable.
Both he and Shahid Afridi (when he publicised his book) have made incredibly unwise comments in which they seemed to admit rejecting corrupt approaches without telling the authorities.
There’s something very wrong when guys who have played for over a decade dont understand that failure to report IS itself a fixing offence.
Hansie Cronje had no idea that he was being taped. Neither did Chris Cairns or Lou Vincent. There needs to be some GDPR rules for this ACU organisation as well. How is it fair for someone to have their Phones being monitored or tapped without a legal court order?
No chance that such things could happen to Australian, England and New Zealand cricketers

I may be an admirer of Cairns and Umar Akmal, but frankly I salute the investigations of the Delhi Police and I have zero sympathy for crooked players. As far as I understand, Cronje and Cairns where being tapped by Indian police. They clearly have no regards for these things in the sub-continent as the police seem to do whatever they want
Kamran Akmal in presser today defending his brother
"Like I said, the decision is yet to come; He is not like that and no such thing has happened"
"You will find out soon what is right - you should report what is right"
"I am saddened by the reporting on this - please wait a bit (for the investigation) - if he guilty you can shout as much you want about it and we will accept it"
"I know that he is not like that - he will turn out to be as clean as he has been for the past 10 years"
"The PCB handles the distribution of contract money to players directly to avoid any delays and problems as are visible in other leagues where players have got payments even after a year's delay."
I like the payment process and I do suspect that he is guilty of failing to declare a corrupt approach.Have to say its top process set up by PCB.

But the PCB hasn’t charged him yet. So it’s difficult to see how they get him to return the payment given that he remains uncharged.
Javed Miandad "Umar Akmal, your father-in law [Abdul Qadir] was a great cricketer. I am warning you on behalf of my late friend that you better mend you ways or else I will hold you accountable on behalf of Qadir. I will request Umar Akmal’s mother and father to control their son.”

I agree completely.Pakistan cricket needs a lot more of this rather than the lame and concocted charges (Sharjeel) and stupid attempts to make people “grow up” (trying to make Umar Akmal and Sharjeel Khan change by not picking them).
Indian cricket needs this too. This Indian team wouldn’t be losing in New Zealand if Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath and Sachin Tendulkar had taken Kohli behind the pavilion (after he tried to chase 450 in a Test in England) and punched him black and blue.
And above all, if Imran, Waqar and Wasim had taken Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar to task they wouldn’t have spread this cancer-like culture of slogging and bowling unnecessarily fast but getting nobody out. Those are two players who did far more damage to Pakistan cricket than Umar Akmal.
Indian and Pakistani cricket needs a bit more raw violence against the FIGJAM players who think they know better than people who have managed to achieve a lot more than they have.
A dose of reality is exactly what Akmal needs.
Can't just be the forum members here who see's that this guy is not ok in the head. Doesn't PCB or his family see this? One does not act like this over and over again ... unless he is fooling us all.
He needs help at this point.
The only reason PCB was not able to let umar go here is because FIA was involved. Contrary to what people like Hawkeye claim, PCB has actually been always lenient with umar, always letting him go with a rap on the wrists.
He has 2 brothers and a cousin in international cricket. What more does a man need?
Kamran Akmal in an interview
"Don't make so much noise until the final decision (on Umar Akmal) has been announced after considering the evidence; Once that happens (and if Umar is guilty), if you say hang Umar Akmal then I will say the same"
"Whats happened with Umar Akmal is unfortunate but I am not too tense about this and that (corruption) is not something Umar or any of us brothers can do"
"Look hundreds of people meet us all the time and take pictures with us... let the final decision come and you will see that he will play the same cricket he was playing before; None of the Akmal brothers will ever do anything that will spoil our own reputation or hurt our country's name and honour"
"The decision will come soon and just in the same way he had been playing for the PCB for the last 10-12 years, he will do the same again"
"I feel people are very unfair with Imam-ul-Haq; He has a lot of talent and has performed so well and has established himself in the side, despite being under so much pressure; He was also criticized so much but he has replied with his bat and is now a regular member of the senior side; His mental attiude is good and is focussed on his cricket"
"I feel that Imam is the future captain of Pakistan; In fact I would say that if Babar has been made T20I captain then Imam should have been made vice-captain"
"Haider Ali's future is bright and he has shown his class and has relieved pressure off other batsmen at crucial times - you don't see such batsmen; He may not be scoring big but he is helping team win games"
"Whats happened with Umar Akmal is unfortunate but I am not too tense about this and that (corruption) is not something Umar or any of us brothers can do"
Can we just scrap this ban? Does it really matter in this time and moment that the guy didn’t report an approach?
Of course it matters. For far too long Umar Akmal and Pakistani cricketers in general have considered themselves above the rules. Can we just scrap this ban? Does it really matter in this time and moment that the guy didn’t report an approach?
