Batting and Bowling talent can be variable and specific to the individual but it is inexcusable for the local Pakistani players to be so unfit, lethargic and terrible in the field. This tournament has been a real downer because of the number of dropped catches in the outfield by the local players and the number of local players who clearly lack international standard fitness. The pathetic fitness and fielding levels by the local players only serves to reduce the quality of your premier league.

I don't think the Franchises have any interest in spending money or ensuring that the local players they select are fit. This is where the PCB needs to step in and play their role to protect the PSL. Hold a month long fitness and fielding camp for the local Pakistani players who have been picked in the draft by the PSL franchises and ensure these local players come the start of the PSL are fit and ready. Any local player who has been selected by the PSL franchise who does not meet the bare minimum criteria should find his NOC withdrawn from the PCB to play in the PSL.

I believe this step will ensure that there is a certain standard in the PSL when it comes to Fielding, Fitness especially if the PSL Franchises and owners are not willing to ensure these standards are met.

This needs to happen.

Some fielding is worse than club cricket.

Isn't that the job of the respective domestic teams and the pathway team? To build up skills of local players from junior levels upto domes.
Fitness and fielding are year round practice oriented skills

Issue is the lackadaisical approach of the domestic teams. Fielding drills simply mean catching practice. There are no scenario based events that most competitive teams use to put pressure on players during fielding drills nowadays. There's a lack of expertise in domestic cricket and they simply cannot afford high caliber coaching talent. On the other hand PSL teams operate during a small window and they do not have enough time to resolve these issues.

PCB needs to run a 1-2 week highly regimented fielding/fitness camps so that at least these players get the fielding right. Also give them fitness programs they can do at home. Forget international standards, the incompetence levels would be an absolute embarrassment at county level. Fully agree with Savak, there should be plans in place before the next PSL season.

Think the IPL franchises do this, they hold pre season camps with the local players, which is why I believe Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer lost their BCCI contracts.

nope.

performance of teams and players in psl is the job of franchise now PCB.

PCB's concern is international cricket performance.

PCB's duty is to protect the quality of their premier tournament. If the franchises aren't interested then they need to step in

Quality domestic players are what makes international squads strong. Holding such camps is way better than waiting for them to come into the international squad and then train them up to global standards.

camps cannot be held for psl, this isnt PCBs jon.

Domestic cricket and franchise cricket both are different. If PCB owned the franchise, i would agree, when they donot own them, they are not required to prepare players for psl

PCB's job is the PSL brother.
PCBs job is running the league, once the franchise purchases the player, its the franchises job to prepare the player for PSL.

PCB can have camps for other many purpose, but they can arrange camps for the purpose of PSL. That means that money is being spent from PCBs pockets

PCB can do it and when they do it, no one is going to be filing lawsuits over it.

Isn't it better to conduct these fitness tests at the regional levels where cricketers begin their journey so they can become more familiar to the fitness standards?

PCB needs to tell the domestic coaches to do this skill building year round. At the end these domestic coaches are employed by PCB.

But for that you need a chairman for 4-5 years to implement some vision.

It's the job of the franchise to do a pre camp and not the pcb job to organise this.

We have tried everything over the years. I just don't see it improving until our players show genuine interest in fitness and improving on this facet of the game.

We need a dedicated fitness coach and a nutritionist with actual power i.e. with the ability to sanction or influence team selection if a player is falling short of expectations.

In the long run it is doing far more harm than good that we consider players like Azam Khan for the national team. This needs to end.

The captain also needs to lead from the front. Virat changed generations of habits for Indian cricketers due his influence as a fitness freak in the dressing room.

The debacle where players are ordering takeaway from Indian restaurants during a WORLD CUP can never be repeated and Babar should be shamed for allowing such a farce under his wing.
