Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will spend approximately USD 3 million for hosting the World XI side in Lahore next month.

Three T20 exhibition matches are scheduled to be held at the Gaddafi stadium.

An official of the board confirmed that the approximate budget, which included payments to the players and officials.

"The PCB is not looking at making any profits from this series. We see the World XI tour as the first real big step towards revival of international cricket in the country," he said.

He said efforts would be made to recover costs from broadcasting rights, sponsorships and ticket revenues.

The PCB is said to be paying the players between USD 75,000 and USD 100,000 for the short tour that will be held from September 11 to 15.

No Test nation has visited the country since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus.

The PCB had invited Zimbabwe for a short limited over series in May, 2015. But that tour was neither approved or supported by the ICC.

For the World XI tour the ICC will be sending its match referee while the umpires will be from Pakistan.

The three matches are scheduled on September 12, 13 and 15.

A lot of money frankly but has to be done in order to revive cricket. The signs are already there. WI has agreed to tour if this series goes smoothly and then follows Sri Lanka..

They are not exhibition matches they are professional matches which have International Status so the wickets and runs count in the record books.

3 million for 3 T20's?

Did not know it would cost a million dollars just to host a 20-20 match.

The 14 member World XI will be laughing all the way to the bank just like Floyd Mayweather and Conor Macgregor.

I think that's an all inclusive cost which is not bad if you see it as an investment. I am sure they can easily break even if sponsorships and rights are sold legitimately. I am actually looking forward to this series.

Also, these are not friendly matches or for exhibition. "Investing" $3 million for 3 hours of entertainment per game serves a purpose. Like we say in any investment, you have to spend money to make money.

Dont know what the issue is. Who knows what other boards spend on during tours etc - Lets look at the bigger picture.

Having said that, we will need full accountability about the money spent.

The size of the laugh should be different though - $100,000 for 3 matches over 5 days ..............and $350,000,000 for 10 rounds of 3 minutes each :(

These figures actually tells that there is a judgement day somewhere in destiny, to balance it out .....

I think, half the money is to players (14 X $85,000) & officials, Coach. Rest would require for accommodation, transportation & security - I actually think that the figures are understated, not to raise critics. It's not including the cost for security arrangements.

I dont see this as value for money. Aus, Eng, SA or NZ are not going to tour because some players were offered a decent sum to tour. Much better off spending money on domestic players, pitches and balls.

I hope the investment by pcb gives them 10 times the returns.

Eng, ind, aus, nz will not tour pak inspite of this but srl, sa, wi will tour for a series in pak.

All the best for pak fans to see sa, wi, srl teams in u r back yard. U deserve it

No profits?

Aside from 'gifts', and self-congratulatory bonuses?

Still, it seems necessary.

It's not a huge amount given all the logistics and fees. You got to see what PCB earns from cricket. It's a small portion of it and it will help PCB in long term.

How much is the PCB spending on trying to get this India series?

At least this money will produce tangible results.

PCB spends $3 million to host Independence Cup

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will end up spending anywhere between US$ 2.5-3 million for the staging of the three-match Twenty20 International series against World XI, as it bids to build on unprecedented international goodwill and bring more cricket back to Pakistan.

A major chunk of that figure will have been spent on bringing the World XI team to Lahore. Nobody has spoken publicly about how much the players are being paid but it is thought to be in the region of $100,000 each. The rest is made up mostly by the logistic costs involved.

The PCB will not, at least, have to pay for the entire costs of the security apparatus for the series. Two international security consultants - Reg Dickason and Nicholls Steyn and Associates - have been engaged, with the $1.1 million cost picked up by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

That is a result of efforts by the PCB over the last year to seek some kind of assistance from the game’s governing body from their projected loss of revenues from the absence of international cricket at home. Although the total spend on the series may appear hefty for a board that hasn’t hosted an India series in well over a decade and has hosted one international series at home since 2009, the PCB’s financial health appears to be better than has been often thought. The board has made a profit every year since 2011 and has, in fact, tripled it in the three years to June 2016 - for the year 2015-16, according to its annual report, the PCB made a profit of $14.5 million dollars.

Lol half of the SA team is in Lahore at the moment.

Sir u have to understand the circumstances as well. This is not a real series and those players particularly sa ones are in need of money as their currency is going down the drain and they r getting 1 lakh usd just for participating

This money will only be worthwhile if the likes of England, Australia, South Africa will tour Pakistan.

Amla, Faf, Tahir, Miller and Morkel have all played IPL in the past year or two.

I highly doubt 100K USD is such a massive deal for them.

You also have to understand that South African players only make about $100K per year from central contract. So, it will be foolish to suggest that players aren't motivated by monetary gain to visit Pakistan. Secondly, apart from Faf and maybe Miller, the other three are often grab for very low price compared to other international players. If im not wrong, Amla wasnt even picked in first round of auction last time around. I wont be surprised if he isnt picked this time around at all as he is not suitable for T20(yesterday's innings at the end proves what i mean). D Miller too hasnt done anything off late to cement an automatic selection this time around. Unlike Gayle, Miller do not have past legacy to milk money in future unless he proves his worth again.

Like i said, if PCB holds another round of world XI without offering monetary gain then we'd love to see how may players will be willing to travel( not saying there wont be any, but we might see different outcome from same set of players).

Your points are valid but the previous poster's comment made it sound as though SA players are desperate for money which is certainly not the case.

Monetary benefits obviously make a difference but I highly doubt they would be visiting if they thought their lives were in danger.

Even i agree to that no amount of money will satisfy anyone if they think their lives are in danger. However, it is also sad reality that South African players are poorly paid by CSA when you compared them to Indian/English/Aussie players. Infact, Kohli alone makes more money than entire South African roster.

But i agree to your initial assessment that players wouldnt be in Lahore right now had they not feel safe. But let me ask you onething, how long can PCB afford to offer monetary benefits to visiting teams?

It obviously can't be a long-term thing.

PCB are hoping that everything goes to plan including the upcoming SL/WI matches and slowly teams can begin to tour again. It will take a long time to normalise tours but that's what needs to be done.
