Finally the Pentangular Cup comes to an end and the last two matches will be played today.

If Punjab and Sindh draw their game then Federal Areas (with 18 points in the bank and all their games completed) will win this tourney.

However the more likely scenario is that the winner of the Punjab vs Sindh game will be crowned the champions of the tournament.

But wait, there is another caveat. If the winning team lose the first innings then Federal areas and the winning team will be tied on points at the top of the table.

Confused yet?

I think the above goes some way towards explaining why there has been such a lack of interest in this Pentangular Cup, if die hard cricket fans like us are finding the points system far too complicated then imagine how casual fans must feel.

Throw in dead pitches and no ball by ball coverage or even decent live television coverage outside Pakistan (or even in pakistan), plus take away the speedguns and you have a complete waste of everyone's time.

The PCB are experts at taking a good idea and beating it till it dies a terrible death but I suppose that's all you can expect when the board is run by one of the President's best friends and he's put all his friends and cronies in influential positions!

For what it's worth let's hope these last two matches get some decent pitches and performances but I doubt it!

No they only show highlights of matches that occur in Karachi!
So I think they will show Punjab vs Sind highlights!

Punjab 30/0
Anwar Ali is bowling to Butt/ Hafeez. Tariq Saeed and Mahmood Hamid are commentating

The U-19 bowler?

143- 6. Not sure who took the sixth wicket, but Sohail has taken 3 wickets, Anwar Ali 1, and Aamer dude also 1. Not sure if he is THE Mohammad Aamer, but he's the lefty. I will confirm.

Anwar Ali bowling well. Developed a little outswinger too. Adnan Raza and Abdur Rehman developing a little partnership here. Sohail Khan is also bowling really well, but he pitches too full most of the times. Troubled Kamran Akmal with some short deliveries. Very pacy.

Salman Butt 20
M Hafeez 17
N Jamshed 21
M Haq 4

158-6. Rehman hit a 4 off Afridi. 8 more overs to go.

Rehman out in covers. Afridi got a wicket. Junaid Zia is the next man.

158-7.

Catch dropped by Khalid Latif off Sohail's bowling. He doesn't look happy.

Why is Malik not playing?

because he couldn't ask for the groundsman to shave off the grass :p

Yousuf not playing either. Hmm strange that - good bowling strip and two leading batsmen go missing.

Out of the bowler averages, the top 5 belong to Sindh :O

The top 3 batsmen belonged to Punjab.

Bowlers come out on top so far.

Malik's mother is ill but looks like Yousaf is acting like a superstar again and has only played one game in this tournament. I am so happy he wasn't picked by anyone for the IPL he deserves every bit of it.

Malik's mother is ill before anyone starts making snide remarks.

Good to see Sohail Khan bowl well again. Pitch has a fair amount of grass on it....let's hope it lasts.

Hope his mother can make a speedy recovery. Sind dominating as expected against Punjab

Was a tongue in cheek remark - hope Shoaib's mum makes a speedy recovery.

all Sohails wickets are caught behind...mus be pacy....deceving batsman with pace....

Good to see Adnan Raza put up a bit of a fight. Shame that this is the only game he'll get.

Interesting to see Kaneria dropped...

so our first team batting stars fail on a bolwers pitch?..ominous signs maybe?

Definitely ominous, but good to see that our most promising up and coming bowler was the destroyer in chief.

NWFP 36 for 0 (Hameed 19*, Mohmand 11*) Baluchistan 308 (Saeed 149*, Maqsood 60, Waqar 4-47) by 272 runs
Scorecard

On a high-scoring day in Peshawar, Saeed Bin Nasir's unbeaten 149 received little support at the other end as Baluchistan were bowled out for 308 against North West Frontier Province. Left-arm opening bowler Waqar Ahmed followed up two early wickets with a couple at the end as Baluchistan squandered the advantage; they were 211 for 5 at one stage.

NWFP made early inroads after deciding to field. Waqar struck twice as they were reduced to 73 for 4, before a 88-run stand partnership between Saeed and Sohaib Maqsood. The duo scored at a brisk pace; Maqsood made a 69-ball 60, with 12 fours.

However, after he departed, Saeed didn't get much support. His innings included eight sixes, and also 17 fours, but he was left stranded on 149 as Baluchistan were bundled out in 80.4 overs.

Waqar took 4 for 47, while Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Nauman Habib and Yasir Shah chipped in with two wickets apiece.

NWFP's openers played out the remaining overs of the day, and reached 36 at stumps.

Here's some news about Shoaib Malik:

KARACHI: Punjab skipper Shoaib Malik is likely to miss his team’s crunch Pentangular Cup match against Sindh because of his mother’s illness.

It has been learnt that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has permitted Malik to skip the last match of the tournament so that he can be with his mother in hometown Sialkot. Malik, the Pakistan captain, is one of the key players for Punjab, who will be looking to beat Sindh in the eagerly-awaited encounter starting from today here at the National Stadium.

In Malik’s absence, in-form Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the Punjab team against Sindh that is spearheaded by star all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Misbah was named as the Pakistan vice-captain earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s fit-again medium pacer Umar Gul is looking forward to playing his first competitive cricket match in a long time next week. Gul, who has recovered from a career-threatening back problem, has started bowling with a full run-up and is now planning to feature in the club match.

Gul said on Monday that he not feeling any pain in his back after getting treatment for the last several weeks.
The pacer missed the Test series against India last year and also failed to get fit in time for the home ODI series against Zimbabwe earlier this year.

Sohail Khan performing again. Good to see.

Kaneria, the best leggie in the universe currently, has been dropped. Aww, that's harsh.

Great to see Sohail Khan consistently getting 4 wickets or more.

Really hope they get a new spinner for the Aussie series.

Howz the pitch like in Karachi ?? sporintg, bowler friendly or the bowlers were just too good for Punjab ?

Are there going to be any highlights for this? Is GEO News going to show them and if what time USA Eastern time?

Good pitch from what i saw, good bounce as keeper was taking sohails deliveries at waist height and there was pace in the wicket

Sindh are 78-2 so far with Punjab being dismissed for 184.

Who took the final wicket for Sindh?
Who are the batsmen out for Sindh?
Who is currently batting?
How many overs have passed thus far?
Who took the wickets for Punjab?
What is the field placings like from Misbah?
How many catches has Akmal taken/dropped?

Many thanks :p

khalid latif and naumanullah are the two guys out thus far. Khurram Manzoor was 36* and it's currently lunch.

Don't know the rest haven't been watching.

Why has Waqar Ahmad not been hyped?
Average 22 First Class, with 230 off wickets.

He is only 27 so still merits a call up.

Another good performance by Wahab Riaz taking top order wickets in a big game. Hopefully he'll get a run against Bangladesh.

Yes, 4/71 for Wahab Riaz. He is the third highest wicket taker presently.

Punjab is playing its first match on an 'alive' wicket....it's been mostly playing its matches on graveyards...no wonder Salman butt has scored so many centuries and all the top batsmen going in the tournament r mostly from Punjab (nasir...misbah..).... they all failed in Karachi...
Sind batsmen too could not do much...they would have been in serious trouble but thanx to the pathetic fielding of Punjab...that did not happen!!
Fawad and Sarfaraz r on the crease....hope they can put up a good partnership tomorrow...!! :)

Just read in the newspaper today....it said that NSK wicket is soo good for bowlers in the beginnings nd later on, for batsmen....it said "no captain has dared to bat first on NSK wicket in the tournament yet!" It also had all praises for the wicket here....and it heavily criticised the double standards in wicket's nature...
It also said that it would be unfair on other players' part if Salman Butt gets the car (Man of the Series) ...coz no doubt, he's the top scorer but he has scored his centuries all on dead wickets..

WWell if thats the case then same can be said about Sohail Khan. He took all his wickets on bowler friendly tracks.

Wahab Riaz deserves it more.

yeah....but the NSK pitch isn't completely bowler friendly...!
It does help the bowler initially but later on....it kinda becomes a batting track...remember the first match...Sind successfully chased the 309 target..in the last session of day 3 and then day 4!
we can say that the pitch at NSK helps both the bowlers and the batsmen...and is thus, a good sporting track!

NSK is an interesting wicket. There will always be something there for the bowlers with the new ball but as the ball gets older it eases out and becomes a batsman's paradise which is finally negated with some reverse swing in the evening.

the bowling must really be rubbish here
hameed somehow managed to hit 6 6's and a 200!!

Perhaps but in his only match away from Karachi, he had match figures of 6 wickets for 105.

He has also picked up more of the leading batsmen and been far more successful than Anwar Ali.

Sindh should look to press on, and bat till their lead is past 200 and then declare.

As always i am very impressed by the bullet speed ball by ball coverage by our beloved cricinfo of the biggest domestic game in Pakistan. The commentary guy is so good that during each water break he gives a detailed analysis of the match situation and pitch conditions. He has also got his buddy who after every 20 mins runs down the dressing room of the two teams and inquires about the team strategy.
It really feels as if i am there at the National Stadium Karachi enjoying the soothering sea breeze and watching the most talented cricketers in the whole of Pakistan.

NOT! :12:

They don't even bother doing score updates, never mind ball by ball coverage. Just a lazily written piece at the end of the day for each match. Tis a disgrace.

even PCB isnt managing the live scores on their website, anyone knows the score ??

Punjab 76-2 trail Sindh by 157 runs.
Misbah and Ammar are batting

Punjab 163-6 and in deep trouble
Kamran Akmal out for a Duck !

Great spell of bowling by Anwar Ali here. 188/8

why did Butt came down the order ? afraid of the new ball on a half lively track maybe ?

202 all out. Sindh win. Sohail Khan 2 wickets, Afridi 3 wickets, Anwar Ali 4 wickets, 1 run out (Afridi). Misbah 51, Ammar 40, Salman 29*

Sohail Khan got the last wicket, Punjab faced innings defeat & Sindh won the Cup !

Good match, but not impressed with the umpiring. A few wrong decisions in the Punjab innings.

Brilliant performance by Sindh, congrats to Afridi and his team they really deserved to win the cup.

I like how Sarfraz Ahmed completely outshone Kamran Akmal in what was a virtual final. Let's just hope the selectors took notice of his performance.

Good victory for Sindh it was quite comfortably in the end.

In the other match Yasir Hammed got a triple century and Saeed Bin Nasir a century in each innings.
