Peter Moores declines Pakistan approach for position of Head Coach [update post #57]

This is the problem with recruiting a decent foreign coach - all the youngish ones (Kirsten, Moody, Fleming etc) have families they want to spend time with so being away for most of the year isn't ideal. So that only leaves you with the older generation like Duncan Fletcher, Dav Whatmore, Lawson etc.

Good riddance. English cricket went to another level after sacking Moores. According to grapevine, he's what they call 'bookish' with all the stats and what not. After intense analysis, he's going to say that cross batted heave was one of the most productive shots of Shehzad and will ask him to continue. Nuff said!!!

Actually what we need IS analysis and selection driven by data and facts

too long we have decided on teams and strategies on 'talent' tag and how one looks while playing

That will be a drag on a team that's based on intuition. The stats based coaching will not work with a bunch of mavericks

The current coaches are building on the spadework Moores put in. Remember the mess England were in after the last Australian Ashes. Trott, KP, Prior and most importantly Swann all went around the same time. Those shoes were hard to fill and it took a couple of years.

Moores did the hardwork and I agree with that. However, it's the change in attitude and the desperation to catch up with the modern game that transformed this English team. Get an Aussie as a coach and see the tables turned. Aussies are masters in utilizing every ounce of talent and competing hard. As aussie coach can change the attitude in fielding. I hope Moody takes the job.

Yet that started under the Englishman Paul Farbrace when he was stand-in Head Coach. He put more aggressive hitters in the LO side and the main test bowlers were dropped.

Yep. Fabrace was terrific. He has the experience of winning a WC as a coach and is Aussie like in his approach

Maybe the data wasn't conducive enough..

Presumably from your comment you think he relies on data too much, any reason for thinking that?
Well for one he said he needs to look at data as to why England got knocked out of WC 2015

No he didn't, as has been said on here a few times now he was misquoted when be infact said 'later'. Is that all you're basing it on?

Dirty world of PCB....who was leaking the reports to the urdu press that Peter Moores had "applied" for the job. Reading his own statements it sounds like he was approached by PCB and he had not applied for th job himself.

Two stints as a failed coach. Can't be a coincidence.

I think its good for PCB .

Jimmy Siddeons maybe low profile , but he is competent. PCB should look to hire him in some position .
It will benefit them in the long run.

rumours going around about Richard Phybus as well

coached us before, currently is his last year as director of cricket in west indies and he isnt planning on taking a contract extension

i wasnt that impressed last he coached us, but that team had to many egos and pybus has done well in developing players the jobs since then

Wise move by Moores to turn it down. We're going to lose in England and Australia regardless of whoever is coach, and then Moores and Misbah would've been made the scapegoats.

He is a better coach than people think. The 'data' comment was taken out of context, he's not actually a data-driven coach, but unfortunately for him it has stuck.

He is good at improving players one-to-one, which is not what England needed from a head coach on either occasion but it is what Pakistan need. Our players don't understand basics, so he'd have been a good choice.

But why did he even apply at first place; lot of candidate miss out; did not he think about his family and blla bla bla before it... Or there is something else like package is not good enough ?

1. Stave james said very unflattering things about Moores in his book, he will be good for academy but not for an international team.

2. He did not apply. He was "approached".

The team won tests on autopilot I guess. Considering they hand not won a series for 2 years prior to his joining

We had a good team and we were playing in the UAE

I'm sure we would have done well with anyone else too, now imagine if we were outside the UAE, you all would not be praising him

The only positive outcome from waqar being the coach is that he brought back amir

So yes, autopilot, right?

on what basis PCB approached him?? A coach who was fired twice approached by PCB joke of my life currently i am 28 hahahha

Two-time former England coach Peter Moores has emerged as a leading candidate for the South Africa job after Ottis Gibson was sacked following a disappointing World Cup.

Moores’s three-year contract at Nottinghamshire runs out at the end of the summer, with the South Africans looking to replace Gibson some time next month, when his own contract is set to expire.

The 56-year-old Moores (above) had two spells in charge of England, with mixed success. In January 2009, less than two years after he succeeded Duncan Fletcher, he lost the job after a fallout with Kevin Pietersen, who was sacked as captain.

Moores was reappointed in April 2014 after Andy Flower paid the price for a 5-0 Ashes whitewash, but this time he lasted barely a year, a spell that included England’s disastrous 2015 World Cup campaign.

In all, England won four and lost five of their 10 Test series under Moores, whose hands-on approach worked better with some players than others.

Gibson, who left his role as England bowling coach two years ago, has declared an interest in replacing Trevor Bayliss as England head coach. Bayliss will leave after the Ashes.

Moores is bad news. The guy was literally castigated by everyone in England for his obsession to "data"

He was one of the biggest reasons why England's ODI cricket was lagging behind. Rather then selecting dynamic players that were already doing well in England's domestic structure he was selecting players based on reputation like Bell, Bopara, Ballance, Broad, Anderson. I mean Cook was ODI captain before getting sacked a few months prior to the WC, which sounds ridiculous when you think about it now.

And the funny thing is that the moment they sacked him their ODI cricket took a 360 degree turn. The first series England played after the 2015 World Cup (against New Zealand) they plundered scores of 408, 398, 302, 350 in the first four games.

The rest as they say is history.
