The controversy centred around Mahmudullah's wrong LBW dismissal in the 17th over when South African pacer Ottneil Baartman struck Mahmudullah on the pads, leading to an LBW call by on-field umpire Sam Nogajski. As the ball subsequently rolled to the boundary, Baartman celebrated but Mahmudullah reviewed the decision.

The third umpire overturned the LBW ruling, yet the four leg-bye runs were not awarded to Bangladesh because Nogajski had signalled the out decision before the ball crossed the boundary.

It's a tough break for Bangladesh fans who were so close to win this game.

Well, its a fair rule else it will become chaotic even after an umpire gives a decision. Tough luck in this situation for Bangladesh but the rule is fair.

It was surprising to see umpires actually giving those out. Tbh it felt weird when the finger was raised both times. Massive turning points in the game.

In the last game, they got a wide after Sri Lanka reviewed a not out decision on Mahmudullah. So I guess it was bound to come around lol.

In all seriousness, a tough break for Bangladesh.

Saw it live, it was one of those that you knew straight away that it was going down leg…the umpire would’ve had a better view and the fact that he thought it was even hitting leg stump is SHOCKING. That was a howler. 4 runs that should’ve been giving to Bangladesh, South Africa only appealed to save the boundary.

Maybe my eyes are going but my first thought was that it was out on first glance….I was surprised why the bowler didn’t appeal and QDQ was the only one appealing, but umpire raised his finger straight away

QDK is another rizwan from South Africa he just appeal for anything, clearly that ball was going down the leg side!

if this was the last ball of the innings and 4 runs required than?
Then ICC will think about this rule and change it like boundary count .

I was talking about Bangladesh players and fan's becouse everyone already know about this absurd rules.

Totally agree, even the second time, which eventually showed out, it felt weird. I think even everyone watching on tv immediately knew that it (mahmudullah) can't be out.

Tbh, those runs should have been awarded because if it was not out, runs should always count.

Bangladesh would be feeling so unlucky. They would have won the game.

One of the suggestions I heard in discussions was that, umpire should give a decision only after the ball has been played fully and is dead. That will prevent such cases. I think that can be worked out.

Tawhid Hridoy (Bangladesh player) post-match Press Conference - 10th June 2024

[Reporter:]

There was this LBW appeal which was given out but the ball had gone for four leg byes which you got through DRS but what do you feel about that certain playing condition where you don't get those runs?

[Tawhid Hridoy:]

Actually, to be honest, that wasn't a good call. Good call for us. It was a tight match. So, I think in my point of view, umpire gave the out, but it's a bit hard for us because those four runs would have changed the match scenario. So, I don't have anything to say about it.

[Reporter:]

Hridoy, about that Leg bye, what he asked, I would like to ask in Bengali. The thing is that umpiring decisions can be bad, many times it happens, and umpires also make mistakes.

But about the rule, if the rule is unfair? The ICC and MCC make rules according to their guidelines but when an umpire's decision is changed after he has given it out, then is it right to get that leg bye? That is the question, I mean, do you feel the rule is unfair?

[Towhid Hridoy:]

See, The rule, what the ICC has done is not in my hands but at that time those 4 runs were very important for us. I think the umpire has given the call and the umpire can give a call. They are also human beings and they could have made a mistake. But we had two-three more wides which were not given. So, in a match like this, where hardly a run is being made in a low-scoring match, one or two runs are a big factor. So, I think those four runs or two wide runs were close calls. Even my out was the umpire's call. So, I think there is room for improvement in these areas. And we have nothing to do with rules that the ICC made. So, I think what has happened,..
