[PICTURES] Imad Wasim (once again) announces retirement from international cricket

How will Imad Wasim be remembered as an international cricketer?

Poll also added guys.

How will you remember him??

for me, he was nothing special.

He tried his best on that India game in WT20 2024 but unfortunately got out at the wrong time.

:kp

I think he should have been given more opportunity during his peak. He was a decent player who punched above his weight occasionally.

However his international career ended in shame and misery for him.

He was 15% of an Afridi at best, and that's saying something.

I think Imad deserved one last chance in the T20I squad to remove that stigma from him for the poor innings he played against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

One of the most disgraceful players to ever represent Pakistan. Zero talent, zero skill, zero legacy but a highly inflated ego and attitude.

He will always be remembered for playing one of the most embarrassing innings in T20 history and for failing to walk the talk himself.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. There was no need for him to formally retire again because everyone knew he was not going to play for Pakistan again. This is another example of him feeding his ego.

Fully agree, Imad Wasim is the most mediocre player to have represented Pakistan since the days of Wasti. Why he gets so much importance is beyond me. The choke vs India is the worst innings from so called finisher.

A good player during sarfi's era. In terms of t20, he was a breathe of fresh air when it came to opening the bowling and was just a good t20 bowler all in all.

In terms of odi he was a highly underrated batsmen. Dude has an avg of 44 and sr of 110, ik it's inflated but it's impressive nonetheless. My favourite moments were England series where he went not out in every game.

However he was an ordinary odi bowler and an ordinary t20 batsmen. Regardless I hugely appreciate any player from the 2017 unit and yes this includes Babar.

I don't hate Babar as much as others. Rizwan and Babar shouldn't be put into the same sentence imo.

One of the most unfairly treated Pakistan cricketer in recent times. He was one of the main reasons behind Pakistan's brilliant T20i run under Sarfaraz.

The people who hate his guts are hardcore Babar and Rizwan fans.

That should be enough to tell you Imad was a true patriot who played for country and team first.

That should be enough to tell you Imad was a true patriot who played for country and team first.

That's true. It all fell apart after 2019-2021.

To this day I question why imad was replaced by Nawaz. Never made any sense.

It seems excessive smoking and the fact that he’s fast becoming a balloon, no longer resembling an athlete, have made him realize that the PCB is unlikely to come begging for his return to T20I cricket. Consequently, he has announced his retirement from international cricket yet again. He will forever be remembered as a player who went on TV shows to criticize his teammates and spew endless nonsense.

No one is coming to beg again. He is cooked and there is no way he is coming back.

It was stupidity from PCB to bring back this overrated loser during the T20wc.
A proper bits and pieces cricketer.
Not a bowler not a batsman. He is a nothing player with zero performance.

Now his match fixer pal also joined him

Both gone

Useless player he was

Only Saifi was able to control him and he used to listen to him hence his career was good during Sarfraz tenure. He didn’t care about Babar or others and tried to dominate them .

Speaks volumes about him as a Pakistan cricketer, if this was the case.

Imad was not used properly by Pakistan cricket team.

He was not a big spinner like Warne or a pure batsmen like Flintoff.

In T20, his darts were quite effective to bowl 4 economical overs. in ODIs, Pakistan tried to make him a wicket tacking spinner which was a poor idea. Imad best performances in ODI probably came when Hafeez and Shadab used to be other spinners. He could keep it tight and also get a wicket or two. They tried to make him a stock spinner and that led to his downfall.

He was a also a good utility batter down the order. He was never going to be Imran Khan or Sobers. The class difference was obvious. But he could always chip in lower down the order. His batting position should have been 8 or 7 always. However, they tried to make him a number 6 which was not again his capability.

A good team and captain understands the limitations of a player and makes the most of them.

Imad could definitely have given Pakistan a number 8 all rounder who could dart the middle overs and keep the pressure on when Pakistan were on top during matches.

The incessant desire of Pakistan team to find an Afridi or Razzaq type all rounder killed off his career because those batsmen were comfortably in a different league.

In a game of chess sometimes you only have a pawn and it's how you position the pawn that makes the value of pawn increase. If you try to make the pawn do the work of a rook or bishop, then not only the pawn dies, but the entire board is at peril.

I don't claim Imad was the best ever player to play for Pakistan. He had as many deficiencies as perhaps Shadab Khan or anyone else.
But he lost the battle due to wrong expectation and thought process.

Anyways, he is gone now and that should be that.

If groomed and developed appropriately, Imad could have been much more impactful than what he ended up being. His batting was more than many of the so called bowling allrounders, and his bowling was ever reliable. Wasted talent in my books.

Rizwan Babar being bad doesn't make Imad Sobers. He was mediocre minnow basher. Good riddance.

I think people look at everything with a recent narrow lens.

Imad was a good t20 bowler and a good odi batsmen at 7. Infact he avg 44 with a 110 sr. That's far better then anything chacha or others did at said no.

He was a poor odi bowler and a poor t20 batter yes but he was our best no 7. No other no 7 has replaced him

Think he could have been a far better player for us in white-ball. But for some reason the selectors didn't think so.

Highlight for me will always be his match-winning knock against Afghanistan at the 2019 WC.

Some players are like that . High egos . Sarfraz knew him from before and imad did mention Sarfraz didn’t care if it was Amir or imad he would keep you on toes. Imad was settling in team that time and Sarfraz utilized him well . Imad also knew he has to follow the captain to settle in the team. As soon as Sarfraz was gone . He couldn’t digest playing under Bobby who he had captained in KK . That’s where the clash came in .

The guy who humiliated Mohammad Rizwan by benching him and winning the PSL making a statement that this clown doesn’t fit the team combination

Good bye

Won't be missed

Stick to tv shows that's where you have skills
Exactly. I don't understand why some fans are behaving like Wasim or Imran just retired. Imad Wasim played the worst innings of the century vs India and single handedly lost that match. An extremely mediocre player who should have retired 5 years ago.

Imad barely qualifies as a cricket player. Riding on the coat tails to win the flukiest psl edition means jack. Babar has won T20 wc semis and wc games vs India. We saw what Imad did.

How could you barely qualify as a T20 cricketer being one of the best bowlers in the powerplay overs across the globe?

He performed in 3 games in a row and batting wise each game ge came in a crises conditon? How is it a fluke if it happens 3x in a row

Imad must be thankful to PCB for providing him lot of opportunities in international cricket for Pakistan otherwise he doesn't deserve a spot in the team. He has always carried fake attitude with zero performance.

Farewell legend!

Those sixes that Hardik Pandya smashed off his bowling.

A decent ODI player who should have played the 2023 World Cup...

Saved Pakistan from being beaten by Afg in 2019. Good PP bowler and did some fun Ronaldo celebrations

Other than that quite an unmemorable career on the field.

If you don't believe you are the best, what is the point of it all?
Nothing wrong in having self-belief if you are good enough to back it up. If you are vocal about how you are the best but then proceed to play one of the most embarrassing innings ever, people are bound to make fun of you.

Amir and Imad announcing their international retirements back to back was peak bestie energy, like high school girls coordinating their big “we are so over this” moment. All that was missing were matching outfits and a hashtag like #RetirementGoals ;)

He was kept out of the team when he was at his peak. Too bad he couldn't fully capitalize when he finally got a chance.

How so? He was a main part of the team until the 21' WC and afterwards he had declined. He wasn't fit enough for ODI's, he was constantly injured and Shaheen/Naseem as new ball bowlers + Pakistan not playing in UAE anymore reduced his effectiveness. Nawaz was doing better than him at the time and was more of a middle overs bowler than Imad was with some more power.

Imad was decent and really useful for a while when Pakistan didn't really have new ball bowlers with Amir injuries/struggles until Shaheen came along and he did job admirably. He should have had a longer and better career but didn't because of his own doings. The lack of focus on his fitness was shocking and he never did anything to modify or improve his game. Even now, he can't hit sixes or turn the ball. Ultimately disappointing what a toxic character he became by the end.

People who question why Imad was dropped or replaced by Nawaz in 2022. Please look up his performance in the last 6 months before that and you will get your answer.

Imad had a shelf-life from 2016-2020. He was damaged goods and was rightfully dropped. The issue with Pakistani fans is that when a players spends a long time away from the team, he automatically gets better.

Imad had no business playing got Pakistan again after that period and we saw that with his pathetic performances and fitness levels in the 2024 World Cup.

However, one part of me is happy that he came back because he only came back to play one of the worst innings in T20 history. He deserved that humiliation after spitting venom against Babar and other active players on TV.

PCB gave him a chance to walk the talk and he failed beautifully. Now his fragile ego cannot accept PCB moving on from him and not picking him again so he has done the “I am retiring again” drama even though it was not necessary.

It is not surprising that both him and Imad retired together. They probably planned it together and after long discussions. It is just a face-saving exercise, nothing more.

Do disgraced characters that deserve no respect and no air time, good riddance and goodbye.

Greatly written

Imad Wasim dismissed Hambantota captain Kusal Perera in the very first over of the Lanka T10 2024 match and finished with bowling figures of 1/20 from his 2 overs.

Man moved up to Platinum category for IU having owned PZ and Multan Sultans when it mattered

Do you have other thing to mention apart from these fluke inning???
It was 3 in a row back to back? All pressure situations all done in a virtual Qf, then semi and then final?

How is that a fluke? This is very similar to when you claimed kohli's recent test 100 was a hoax

"Once again"... :yk

Only in Pakistan you see retirements made in installments.
