[PICTURES] Lahore Qalandars announce 16-member Rising Stars team for Australia tour

Lahore– 8th October, 2017: Scenes at Gaddafi Stadium on 8th October were dazzling and mind-blowing as Sargodha won the Jazz Rising Stars T20 Cup followed by a display of some unbelievable fireworks and musical performances as Lahore was in a festive season courtesy of Lahore Qalandars. However, living up to the promise, Qalandars will now announce the 16 selected players under development in Lahore Qalandars Academy to tour Australia and play a series against Big Bash franchises Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixer & Hobart Hurricanes.

This is a major part of the International exposure which Lahore Qalandars promises to provide to young talent under development in Lahore Qalandars Academy.

“I believe the players we have finalized a talented bunch of kids who can surprise many when they play the series in Australia. This tour to Australia is a part of their development and it is extremely important for us to provide these boys with that level of exposure.” claimed an excited Aqib Javed.

Lahore Qalandars will play their first match of the series on 25th October 2017 against Hobart Hurricanes in Sydney, Australia.

Good to see the effort put in by Lahore Qalandars. Hope this tour is a success and hoping these guys shine in the next PSL and take Lahore Qalandars to the final at GSL!
A few questions Nouman Anwar isn’t really a rising star is he? Been around for a while now and has played for Pakistan I believe.
Also wasn’t Zeeshan Malik part of Islamabad’s PDP? Or is he part of both?
 
Zeeshan Malik is future captain of Pakistan.

He might be there just because of the novelty factor(hailing from Kashmir) and bowling at approx 90 mph, but you never know how he turns up under Aquib, Kyle Mills and even Shoaib Akhter.

These 3 guys are quiet decent to be coach/advisor/mentor of young fast bowler(s) and there are chances that he will improve under them.

As Aquib has said if you have pace every thing else can be taught, but the key is having pace at a young age by your side.

Pakistan needs tearaway fast bowlers :akhtar and lets see if one of Salman Irshad or Haris Rauf fulfills the role

He's not a tearaway nor does he have that potential. He's not a bad bowler just that there were others better than him.
 
Its lovely what LQ are doing for Pak cricket but surely, they can invest in better quality nets?

That said, there are still a few players to watch out for.

Salman's selection is 100 % justified. He is a right arm taller, fitter & quicker afraz khoso. Limited overs specialist. It's a pity that PCB wasted his 2 years needlessly with him playing no domestic cricket at all whereas he impressed me 2 years ago playing for Ajk team in domestic T20 tournament under PCB wings.

You have forgotten to mention Rafay was terrible in this year's tournament.

Not everything is a conspiracy.
 
Salute to Rana Fawad,who happens to own a Lahore team but is promoting talent from as far as Abbottabad and Kashmir.

Appreciate his vision as well as the team he has built like Aaqib Javed.

Really hope these players play for Pakistan and want Rana Fawad more involved in cricketing affairs of our PCB, it has been an embarassment when it comes to protecting Pakistan's players and their own interests.

So this is long-term planning of showing doors to the best batsman of the last tour of Aus after one bad domestic tournament ? :-)


Also I am trying to find the theory behind 50 averaging FC & 45 averaging List A Opener not playing any domestic Cricket from Last 5 years. Please educate me on this.

Personally, there looked to be a couple of better bowlers than Irshad. Not saying that Irshad is a particularly bad bowler, but the likes of Ehtisham and Ameer Hamza warranted selection ahead of him.

He's definitely not quicker than Khoso. Also, muscular frame =/= fitness.

Khoso & Salman are similar paced. On domestic faulty speed guns 2 years back Khoso clocked 138 max.


Khoso is ditto copy of malinga. While Salman is a mixture of Masroof, Malinga & Edwards. Khoso's Yorkers are more deadly but Salman is more versatile in terms of varieties & bounce.

Anyway both should be playing all domestic T20 & List A matches.


Did not follow Qalandars domestic tournament or Grade 2 so no idea about Khoso.
 
Muscle frame isn't fitness but overall Salman is much fitter than Khoso.

Khoso's attitude as pacer is deadly.


Khoso needs to work on his shoulders, arms & back. His action takes more toll on the body than any other pak bowler.

What is "fitter"? Are you speaking durability? Endurance? Athleticism?

Have not followed any footage or scorecards in present time So cannot comment much. Only following QEA scorecards especially KING ASIF.


Hasan Raza, Salman & Abdul Shakoor (Warne) stood out for me last time (2 years ago). Salman has added 7-8 kph in these 2 years which is good. He is educated aswell which helps.


Who knows Ehtesham might play PSL directly ¿ Aqib loves him. Don't exactly remember if Abbotabad are playing QEA or not ¿ He deserves a go for Peshawar Team even otherwise. Taj Imran & Ehtesham should be the pacers.

I am simply stating facts. The selection of the final 16 was primarily based on this year's top performers and unfortunately Rafay wasn't one of them. That cannot be disputed. Accusing Aqib Javed of religiously discriminating against Rafay because he didn't choose him for this year's Australia tour is without basis. Let's not forget it was LQ who selected him to appear in this tournament, in two successive years. Plus, one of those times he was fortunate enough to be selected for the Australia tour. If Aqib was was discriminating against him, why would he select him in the first place?

Now you are conflating two different things. One is the LQ tournament and the other is domestic cricket. Your accusation was levelled against Aqib Javed and LQ which as I have said is without basis. If anything, LQ are the ones offering him a lifeline. We shouldn't jump to conclusions simply because it fits a certain narrative.

As for domestic cricket, those figures don't really tell you much given he has only played 3 FC matches and 1 List A match.

I have no doubt he is talented but there could be countless reasons for why he is not being selected, other than religious discrimination. Tell me, are there not "mainstream" sunnis who also miss out on opportunities? Could these same reasons not apply to Rafay?

Firstly, I have just remembered I didn't welcome you back. I hope you are well and trust your studies are progressing. :)

Bhai, my point was simply that I think accusing LQ of religious discrimination is unfair in light of all the opportunities they have given him. Maybe he has suffered such discrimination at domestic level, but who knows?

Have to agree with this. Still can't believe these two missed out.

As for the Khoso/Salman comparison, from memory Khoso could actually move the ball.

Thank you for the well wishes, I pray for your success as well.

Salman bowls at a fine pace, there's no question about it but the simple matter is that there were more skill-full bowlers in comparison. Irshad comes across as a one trick pony, seeing that he hasn't displayed any capability to move the ball around.

As I stated in an earlier thread, in terms of raw potential Khoso is/was far ahead. Sad to see that he had to give up due to a lack of opportunities, he's better than the majority of trundlers running riots in the QeA.

Qalandars rising stars will play a practice match against Sydney Thunder at 2:30pm Australia time.
 
Chris Green is ready to face the young Qalandars in the first practice match.

Lahore Qalandars won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The team were given good tips on tactics and strategy by Aqib, Mills and Elliott before the match.

Fast bowling sensation Haris Rauf who bowls at 92mph will be in action.

Naseem rajpoot was reporting and said haris rauf impressed all locals with his pace and it's likely he'll be offered a chance to represent one of local teams
 
For those wanting to watch the games CA may livestream on their website, considering they did so for the first game of the quadrangular series. LQ play their first game against Hobart today (25th) from Blacktown at 2 pm AEDT.

Sikander Khan’s efforts in vain as Hobart Hurricanes win against Qalandars Rising Stars

Lahore: Lahore Qalandars Rising Stars squad arrived in Sydney, Australia and kicked off their first match off the Quadrangular cup against Hobart Hurricanes. Hobart Hurricanes won the match by 39 runs after a brilliant display of batting by man of the match Caleb Jawell.

Hobart Hurricanes won the toss, elected to bat first and scored 173 with a loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs. Caleb Jawell was the star for the Hurricanes as he got himself a century and scored 108 off just 69 balls. S. Willis supported him well by scoring 32 runs off 26 balls. Captain of Qalandars Rising Stars, Usman Qadir got the first break through ending with stats of 1-32 and similarly fast bowler Haris Rauf got the second wicket with stats of 1-32.

Lahore Qalandars Rising Stars had a target of 174 to win however Qalandars lost quickfire wickets with openers Noman Anwar and Zeeshan Malik failing to settle in the match. However continuing his good form from the previous practice match, Sikander Khan battled hard by scoring a quickfire 60 off just 45 balls. Muhammad Irfan Jr scored 19 off just 11 but couldn’t take a long stand due to some terrific bowling at the hands of S. Milenko and H. Kingston from Hobart who both took 2 wickets each. Lahore Qalandars were all out on 134 however Qalandars have two more matches to play and are still in the cup and are being trained regularly under the watchful eyes of Aqib Javed, Grant Elliott and Kyle Mills.

Lahore Qalandars showed a great gesture post-match by presenting 20 year old Caleb Jawell who scored a century with a souvenir and also presented it to CEO Hobart Hurricanes, Nick Cummins. Grant Eliott and Aqib Javed did the honors of presenting the mementos to Jawell and Cummins.

‘’It was a good experience for the young Qalandars in the first match of the tournament. Hobart Hurricanes were terrific but we have positives to take from this match. We will look to bounce back in the upcoming matches and I’m impressed by the confidence of the lads who are pumped up to make a come-back.” said Director Cricket Operations, Aqib Javed.

Watching the highlights, LQ lacks power hitters, apart from Zeshan and Sikandar and some poor shot selection. Need to work on their power hitting.
 
I would like see how their approach changes from here. Where do they go now? They Grant nd Kyle Mills in the coaching staff, what role do they play or are they there just cause of Baz!
 
Had nothing to do with powerhitting. The pitch had too much bounce for them to adjust in just two days. Zeeshan was looking money before he got out. Played some killer pull shots, he got too excited.
 
Sikander Khan looked pretty impressive in them highlights.

Might be the bounce, but I seriously felt that apart from Sikandar and Zeeshan the others didn't even have the muscle to clear the circle.

No one's slow on this team. They are all free-flowing. Nauman and Badar were dismissed playing silly shots. Just needed one of those two or Zeeshan to partner with Sikandar.

Naveed and Rohail are hacks who shouldn't have been selected.

Saif and Rohail Nazir did pretty well, but a pretty poor showing all round.

Zeeshan and Nauman look one innings away though.

Sikander has batted better on these pitches than in the LQ tournament (hardly surprising). Wasn't impressed by his knock in the final but he has looked better on this tour.

Mamoon deserves a game.

It's the age old problem when touring Australia. It takes at least a month to figure their length and by the time bowlers adjust, the tour is over.
