Pathum Nissanka is closing on a debut test century against West Indies. He has showed patience and skill in this innings. He averages over 60 in first class, so he has earned his place. Sri Lanka have played him in all formats in this series.

Mickey Arthur also rates him. I am excited to see his progress, surprised no thread has been made about him. So thought I would make one.

I hope he has a successful career as Sri Lanka badly need a batsmen of his quality.

We have seen so many of these "new hopes" for Sri Lanka in the past 4-5 years that fade away into oblivion after showing some glimpses initially.

Kusal Mendis
Roshen Silva
Asela Gunaratne
Avishka Fernando
.
.

.

Hope he bucks the trend.

Yep hopefully. He averages over 60 at domestic level, so that’s a good start.

Has an excellent FC record, less so in white ball cricket but SL decided to play him in all formats anyway. WI dried him up in the T20Is when they bowled a line outside offstump.

However in Tests where there's no run-rate pressure you can afford to sit in and wait for balls in your zone. Looks very disciplined and patient, and this is exactly the knock SL needed given the match situation.

Hopefully one that kicks on and doesn't go backwards like other promising young SL batsmen like Kusal Mendis.

looks good, came in a tight situation and played a potentially match winning innings. has stronger fist class pedigree than any of the other youngsters sri lanka has tried. you dont average 67 in first class by accident, clearly he makes it count when he gets in.

a century on debut away from home is no joke. hoping he kicks on cos sri lanka desperately need a match winning batsman.

After India, Sri Lanka has the most batting talent in Asia and they always produce technically sound young batsmen because of their strong school cricket.

Unfortunately over the last decade or so, these young batsmen have failed to kick on because of poor player development and lack of guidance.

One wonders what would have happened to the likes of Sangakkara and Jayawardene if they were to debut in this era.

Sri Lankan cricket needs to involve those two in the national setup and get rid of charlatans like Mickey and Flower who are clueless and out of their depth.

SLCB suffers from inferiority complex and is always hunting for foreign coaches. It has a lot do with Whatmore leading them to World Cup glory in 1996 but that jag more to do with Ranatunga’s leadership.

The lack of professionalism and incompetence of SLCB is also a major factor why the likes of Jayawardene and Sangakkara stay away from them.

Jayawardene is an outstanding coach but he would rather work with Mumbai Indians in a professional and high performance environment rather than scratch his head with SLCB’s clownery. It is a pitiful situation really.

I have seen you say before Sangakara and Jayawardene should get involved with Sri Lanka, but it does seem they don't want to work in the coaching set up. Something must be seriously wrong in that environment if those 2 don't want anything to do with it.

It seems as though he is more suited to test matches rather than limited overs cricket judgi g by his domestic stats.

His first class record is outstanding.

I would wait and see how he does for a sustained period of time. People were just as excited about DDS and Kusal Mendis when burst onto the scene and hit those tons against Australia at home five years ago. Mendis has been a massive disappointment and DDS although better has not exactly set the world on fire.

I am surprised nobody is talking about this lad.

What a classy knock he played today against SA. He has Babar Azam written all over him.

The current young players who have been picked for SL are all literally on Arthur's insistence.

This SL batting lineup is missing a leader which the youngsters can bat around. They are missing the intelligence of Mahela, Sanga or Aravinda. This guy is very talented and needs a mentor and someone to take the pressure off him

He played a good knock, you never know. He could be the next hope for Sri Lanka.

Carried a fragile batting line-up today.

How bad is this Sri Lankan batting group!

How bad is this Sri Lankan batting group!

This is what happens when no one wants to anchor the innings. This is what will happen if Pakistan had 7 batters who all want to bat like M Harris or Asif Ali.

SL have such good ingredients in their batters but for one reason or another they are either not selected or are not developing well.

Mendis, Dickwella, Perera, Gunathilaka, Rajapaka, Asalanka, Nissanka, Avishka. These 8 batters are so full of potential yet still struggling.

Sri Lanka team are very unpredictable and inconsistent.

Nissanka hasn't been very consistent.

During Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, 8th Match of the ICC World Cup, Nissanka scored a brilliant 50. Excellent innings for this young lad. He Scored 51 off 61 balls before he was dismissed by Shadab.

Third consecutive fifty for Pathum Nissanka.

He is having a fantastic time in this edition of the World Cup.

Immediately after scoring his 3rd fifty, Pathum lost his wicket but a good knock under pressure from this emerging talent.

Nissanka hits his 4th consecutive 50 in this ICC World Cup 2023 and against difficult oppositions. What a run he has been having

Pathum Nissanka missed a chance to join an elite club with Steven Smith and Virat Kohli by just 4 runs.

It could have been his 5th cosecutive 50+ score in Men's ODI World Cup. He had already scored 31 50+ scores in his just 2.5 years of International Cricket.

Such an underrated bastman

Pathum Nissanka is absolutely on fire!

The Sri Lankan opener just nailed his 4th ODI century in such a stylish manner and way to go....

Watching him and Avishka Fernando putting up a massive 182-run opening stand is truly a treat. He's currently batting at 103 not out from just 92 balls.

Pathum Nissanka just set his highest ODI score, and he's not slowing down! Keep it going champ. he is batting at 155* (118).

210* for pathum nissanka
yes he did it against an afghanistan side without the services of rashid khan and naveen but still very impressive for the young man, If I'm not wrong he's the first sri lankan to make a double in ODIs.

Pathum Nissanka made history for Sri Lanka by scoring an unbeaten 210 runs off 139 in the 1st ODI against Afghanistan. This is the first time a Sri Lankan batsman has achieved a double century in ODIs. Nissanka's remarkable performance highlights his talent and promising future in Sri Lanka cricket.

What a knock!

I know it was a depleted Afghanistan side but you have to be good to score 200+.

Surprising to know Srilankans never made a 200 in this format. Jayasuriya must have come close.

Nissanka creates history with landmark ODI double-century

Pathum Nissanka became the first Sri Lanka batter to score a men's ODI double hundred.

Pathum Nissanka's 210* was the first-ever double-century for a Sri Lanka batter, and was also the highest-ever individual score for Sri Lanka in ODIs. He beat Sanath Jayasuriya's 24-year-old record. Jayasuriya had scored 189 against India in Sharjah in 2000.

Nissanka walked out to open for Sri Lanka, after his team was asked to bat by the Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi. His start was far from perfect, and the batter took his time to settle in. However, the batter went for the big shots after getting his eye in.

He added 182 runs for the opening wicket with Avishka Fernando and didn't relent after his partner fell in the 27th over. Nissanka reached his hundred in the 32nd over, taking 88 balls to get there.

In the last 18 overs, Nissanka slammed 110 runs. He took merely 48 balls to reach his double ton after crossing his century, smashing 20 fours and eight sixes. With his help, Sri Lanka reached 381/3 in 50 overs.
The 210* is the joint-fifth-highest score in men's ODIs. Overall, it was the 12th double ton in men's ODI history.

Afghanistan have an okay middle order and Sri Lankan bowling attack isn't that great.

I don't find it suspicious.

You are not watching the match perhaps - partnership of 191 for 6th wicket - they fix, make no mistake , SL wins this but they have a rich F history - 250/5

Highest score for a Sri Lankan cricketer, and he is only 25.
Sure, it was against an Afghan attack with no Rashid. But Afghanistan have 4 other really good bowlers. Well done!

I thought him to be an average player but he has proven me wrong. Well still don't consider him great until he could score something big against India.

last 41.3 overs , AFG scored 284/1 after being 5 down . Prime spot by Lankan boys - was very obvious the way the bowled after 55/5 !!!

Another brilliant century by Nissanka against Afghanistan. He is currently at 117*(99) in the 3rd ODI between the two sides.

Pathum Nissanka scored 114(113) against Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI, marking his 6th century in ODIs. His sensational form in 2024 continues with this achievement, adding to his tally of three centuries in five ODIs this year.

Pathum Nissanka declared player of the match for his match winning innings of 88 runs off 53 balls against Dambulla Sixers.

Doing a fair bit of damage today against Jaffna Kings in LPL 2024 game. Currently batting at 55 off just 24 balls. Goos start provided by him and still looking good at the crease.

He has improved power game. Earlier was worse than even Babar, Rizwan type anchor . But he's hitting with good bat swing now maybe.

Pathun Nissanka, remember the name.

Showing his class right now.

Gone but after playing a wonderful knock. Well played Nisaanka

You have almost secured this match for your country.

Never saw him hitting with such fluency. He has definitely worked on his power game. Those sixes to Siraj were mind blowing. 👌🏻

Nissanka and Asalanka are two high quality youngsters Srilanka have.

He was playing a blinder and was off to a flyer and sri lanka was well on its way towards an epic chase but as nissanka got out, things got messy.

He might just be the next Sri Lankan cricket star.

Already has double hundred to his name in ODIs and now showing his talent be Bharatiyas the World Champions.

He was the only resistance for SL against India in the 1st ODI but Sundar got him for 56. Good inning nevertheless.

Nissanka has a 50+ score every odd inns in ODIs in 2024

Pathum Nissanka scores in 2024

210 vs AFG, Pallekele
18 vs AFG, Pallekele
118 vs AFG, Pallekele
36 vs BAN, Chattogram
114 vs BAN, Chattogram
1 vs BAN, Chattogram
56 vs IND, Colombo

Could not carry his form in the 2nd ODI as he was gone on the very first ball of Siraj.

SL batter getting dismissed first ball of an ODI vs India

S Jayasuriya Colombo RPS 2002 (Zaheer Khan)
U Tharanga Delhi 2009 (Zaheer Khan)
U Tharanga Dambulla 2010 (Praveen Kumar)
P Nissanka Colombo RPS 2024 (Mohd Siraj)

Very underrated player because he is from Lanka otherwise currently he is one the best player of all formats .

Brook may have impressive numbers and ability but SL batsmen are just so much more watchable and have such exquisite strokeplay

According to Cricviz' model, the average batter would have been dismissed thrice to the deliveries he faced today.

Classy and effective.

Nissanka made 90 today against NZ in the 1st T20I but his inning went in vain as sril kanka lost the game.

He got no support from his teammates.

Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka has signed up for the HBL PSL Season 10 Draft.

Good player he is. Will do good on these pitches IMO

3rd Test hundred for Pathum Nissanka today against Bangladesh, and this is his first at home.

And he is still going strong.
