In order to overturn an onfield decision of not out, the third umpire must have "conclusive" evidence that the batsman is out. In the opinion of third umpire Michael Gough, there was conclusive proof from Ultra Edge (see below) to say that the ball had nicked Rohit Sharma's bat and that he was out, therefore the decision should be overturned. Do you agree?

I think, it was poor call by 3rd umpire. On field call was not out and there wasn’t enough conclusive evidence to over turn that.

Its the WC shouldve had hot spot here.

It makes no sense not having it.

Ultra Edge is usually a very reliable technology that can handle many different situations, but I think this was a case that was crying out for hotspot, would've given more conclusive evidence than Ultra Edge in my opinion.

Probably hot spot technology isn’t reliable. Money, technology (platform) or logistics shouldn’t be any issue in a WC in UK.

It doesn't have to replace ultra edge, but surely it could work alongside it. As the umpires in a review cycle through all the camera angles ("front on spin vision" etc.) as well as ultra edge, surely hotspot could just be another thing the umpire looks at to confirm?

I missed the dismissal and have only seen the photos in the opening thread... However, it amazes me how this referral system is abused, if its not out in the field then there has to be absolute conclusive evidence to overturn it yet so many times I've seen it go the other way and with lack of consistency in the decision making.

The worst is infield umpires giving out to balls clipping the stumps which then stays with the on field umpire and then the same umpire giving not out to a similar delivery to another batsman. Horrendous

Same with the soft signal for a catch.
If the umpire is going to refer it then surely there is a doubt in his mind so then every soft signal should be not out... Or the other way round.

But this soft signal stuff is just another abuse of the rules.

based on the pictures, I think the evidence is not enough to give him out.

I think he edged it, so it's OUT.

However, based on the rules you just described it's difficult to say without a shadow of a doubt.

did the prices of the thermal hot spot go up? why can't ICC afford it for their premier ODI event

Hilarious!

Well it was out if ultra edge is showing it and that’s the problem with that technology if too close to bat and pad at the same time it will pick up a spike so you can’t really be sure in the end one decision had to be made and it was out Sharma shouldn’t have cried like that he’s a bigger player and man than kohli,

Umpires these days are very substandard they need to be taught a lesson miss the old legends like Daryl Hair Billy Doctrove Steve Dunn Jayaprakash

From the right picture , looks like bat is behind the pad and therefore out.
But need to see more than the 2 pictures (live video) to be sure!

Clear not out, if on field umpire gives itbout that's a different thing but no way is there any clear evidence to overturn the on field decision.

The picture you are seeing is what that idiot gough saw, actually pretty sure gough did not even look at the images for more than a second.

Pathetic. In poor taste and classless.

Hot Spot uses a technology that can be repurposed for defense applications. This is the reason that hot spot cameras are tightly regulated and outside of australia and england, are not that widely available.

additionally, each of those cameras is in excess of a few $100k(s). that is a prohibitive cost when you consider that there must be multiple cameras to support the multiple locations where the games are held.

When 3rd Umpire needed a bathroom break.

This pic clearly shows that 3rd umpire should take more time when analyzing close calls.

Whats pathetic in this? Someone updated his wiki page as before the match he didn't have a page and when he became a bit known someone updated his page.
There's no wrong information on the page.

Lately it seems the hate inside you in growing everyday. Don't let it consume you my friend, you are much stronger than that. I will pray for you.

Poor decision, third umpire has time and all the technology if he also makes mistake then what's the point of third umpires?

ICC should reprimand or fine this umpire.

The page was repeatedly getting edited during the match, with Hindi abuses being put alongside the umpire's name and in his profile.

I'm very confused. Did you see the part where it says "He don't like Indian cricketers specially and specifically Rohit Sharma"?

Which is wrong and disgraceful. However in the photo posted in this thread it doesn't show anything like that. Just shows normal page for an umpire being created.

So if you post such a photo then make sure you update the rest of us that the page was being edited with abuses. O

In the photo you posted it doesn't say that. Or am I blind and can't see?

How would the rest of us know about it unless you mention it below the photo or post photo of such editing?

He's a former professional cricketer and current international umpire, of course he had a wiki page. All that happened is someone edited it to insinuate he was racist.

Madplayer I take this post back. Apparently the page was edited with abuses which I didn't know about.

Then should clearly mention that's what they edited. Not everyone of us check wiki pages I thought he got a page just because he got famous for giving Rohit out. The photo posted by firebat didn't show any wrong insults so how would rest of us know what's going on unless mods mention it ?

This is the image in the tweet, perhaps it's not showing fully:

I apologise I had embedded the tweet of the whole picture, but when it was posted the full picture was not shown, you had to open it in Twitter to see.
