And in 2023 when they won the World Cup in India - using the Trophy as a foot stool!

Australian team deserves this swag.

But drinking champagne from shoes was a terrible idea.

You win it 6 times you outright own the trophy do what you want,it’s no holy book or something.

Not disputing they didn't win it 6 times.

That's not the point.

its doesnt really matter that much to em, the only thing that really matters to aussie cricketers is the ashes, the rest is just about winning for winnings sake.

well its there night to celebrate they can do whatever the hell they want too. I'm sure india have also planned the after wc celebrations but australia said not today

The drinking from the shoe/trainer was made world famous from the UFC fighter Tai Tuivasa. It seems to be a regular Aussie thing now.

Not something Id do but nice to see them enjoying the win. Arguably their best World Cup title out of the 6.

That’s part of the mentality though… it’s not about the trophy, it’s about winning. The prize could be a bag of chips for all they care. It’s the victory that counts…

That’s my take on the Mitch Marsh pic.

I remember Mike Tyson saying something like that, “my belts are all garbage, they mean nothing” paraphrasing a little, but he definitely said they were garbage.

It is just a trophy. I don't think touching it with leg is a big deal.

They have won it 6 times and are likely to win it many more times.

Nailed it!

Aus never have received the genuine Ashes trophy, only a replica but winning , being called champions or new holders is the title they want.

They will go home have a party or two only to go back to work to improve and win again and again.

If India had won there would have been fighter jets flying, Bollywood dancers falling over and their Prime Minister wanting another 4 years for supporting in the crowd.

I agree.

This is what I like about Aussie sporting culture. It is a mixture of professionalism and ruthlessness. They tend to focus on important things.

id rate 99 higher, simply because it foreshadowed the beast that team would become, but i can understand why this would be right up there.

Fair call. South Africa was a beast team along with Pak and Aus beat both in the semi and final. In terms of quality, I agree 99 was a better win. This one beating the hosts in the final after a bad start and without a team of pure legends, this is just above for me.

100% spot on.

It's the Australian sporting culture to go all out regardless of the prize. The trophy is just icing on the cake for these guys.

It’s been a regular Aussie thing long before Tai Tuivasa. Disgusting as it is, drinking from a shoe is quite common among teenagers/sportsmen here

It's been popular way before Tai Tuivasa. It's more of a white 'frat' boy thing. Local artists have been doing it on stage for time, but if memory serves me right Daniel Ricciardo popularised it on the world stage.

How did this start? I know it was around for a while but not sure who started it. Tai I think bought it to the mass sports fans attention or because I dont watch Aussie rugby, rules etc.

Mohammed Shami speaking to reporters:

"I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fights, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy,"

The 2023 World Cup has concluded, yet the controversies surrounding the host nation, India, persist.

Australia defeated India by six wickets in the final on 19th November 2023 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh came under India's scrutiny after his viral photograph on social media depicted him resting his legs on the World Cup trophy.

An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against Mitchell Marsh in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Pandit Keshav, an RTI Activist, lodged the FIR against the Australian all-rounder. The primary concern highlighted in the FIR is that Marsh's picture has offended the sentiments of numerous Indian fans, given India's defeat in the final match.

In addition to the FIR, Pandit Keshav forwarded a copy to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, recommending a potential ban on Mitchell Marsh from participating in cricket within India.

Earlier, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami stated that he wasn’t happy with the gesture as this is the trophy everyone fights for.

"I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fights, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy,"

Remember, this episode is not the sole controversy during the World Cup. Earlier, Zainab Abbas from Pakistan faced considerable backlash in India due to certain past tweets that upset Indian sentiments. Mohammad Rizwan also encountered similar issues when a complaint was lodged against him for performing Namaz (prayer) in the stadium, deemed objectionable.

Such occurrences are not uncommon in India. The country has exhibited a high degree of intolerance, often raising objections and filing complaints over even minor issues.

The FIR against Mitchell Marsh could be perceived as an attention-seeking move, considering India has no ownership rights to the World Cup trophy whatsoever.

It seems that India has still not recovered from the World Cup loss.

Wow!

This is hilarious.

India doesn't own the World Cup trophy. It is the property of ICC.

MARSH DEFENDS VIRAL WORLD CUP PHOTO, SAYS HE’D DO CONTROVERSIAL CELEBRATION AGAIN

Mitch Marsh has insisted he meant no disrespect for his viral celebration that caused a stir across India.

After claiming the World Cup and upsetting the hosts in the process, Marsh was pictured with his feet on the coveted trophy. Indian quick Mohammed Shami said he was “hurt” by the photo while a letter addressed to the India Prime Minister and Sports Ministry demanded Marsh be banned from the country for life.

The 32-year-old all-rounder quickly became public enemy No.1 in India as furious fans reacted to the shock World Cup loss.

On Friday, Marsh offered his first public response to SEN. When asked if he would do it again, he responded: “Yeah probably, to be honest.

“There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off.

“There’s nothing in that.”

Marsh plundered 441 runs for the tournament and posted 15 in the final.

While the Western Australian left India days later to continue the celebrations in Australia, six teammates weren’t so lucky.

With a five-match T20I series against India getting underway just four days after the World Cup triumph, celebrations were capped for those who were staying in the sub-continent.

Marsh said he hopes common sense prevails and similar series aren’t fixtured in the future.

“Yeah it was pretty outrageous for the guys that had to stay behind,” he admitted.

“It’s a fine line because we’ve got to respect the fact we’re playing for Australia and it’s a series against India which is always really big.

“But there’s also the human side of it, the boys have just won a World Cup and probably deserve to celebrate for a while and get home to their families.

“It’s an interesting one. You’d hope there’s not too many of those series put on after big tournaments again.”

Marsh added with a laugh: “I celebrated for the six guys who stayed behind, I celebrated for them.”

Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis and Sean Abbott have since flown home, with Australia trailing 2-1 midway through the T20I series.

Offcourae australia cause its natural.

India likes to copy others like they copied west indies and now messi.
