[PICTURES] Vaibhav Suryavanshi: The 13-year-old Indian cricketer who won a $130,500 IPL deal

Not a facsimile of Jaiswal but some of his strokes are very similar. Very impressive prospect.

The super critical might say he's playing away from his body during those off side shots but that defence can be tightened when he plays more red ball cricket. Right now, it's his ability to pick lengths is what's impressive.

I'd rather he continues to look for the aggressive option more often than not especially at his age.

Punter and many other greats often talk about how the body naturally gets into better positions to play the ball when looking to take it on.

Defence will come in time as he plays on tough wickets in red ball.

First real look at this prodigy from Bihar @Nikhil_cric

It's only the HL package but I am 100% sold on him purely from an ability PoV. Absolutely top drawer strokeplay.
Wow that guy looks like he is demoted to play against under 19.i think his age will be completely under scrutiny with that talent and ability.he reminds me of yuvraj with a pure eye and hand co ordination. Hope he comes good

Looks extremely dynamic and effortless. Good prospect.

Has he been banned yet?

Makes Bihar/UP look even worse than they already are - where they breed endlessly and then lie about when they have been bred.

He is 14 or 15. Definitely not 13 as they claim. They have to keep a close eye on him when he plays in age group cricket.

Very rarely such super young talents are specially batsmen sustain it as they grow older . Good luck to him. For every Sachin there are 50 other examples that didn’t go anywhere. Hope that’s not the case here.

Tendulkar was brave and mentally very tough. Some of these star youngsters have lots of success but can't cope with an inevitable downturn that will come sooner or later

Look what India is doing with their prodigy talent and what we are doing with Ali Hasnain Badshah who we discovered at the age of 10 , He is 15 now and absolutely demolished U16 bowlers and still no where to be seen even in the U19 team and player with a lesser talent and lesser record is opening for U19 team. And then we say we don't have talent , how on earth we will get talent if they are left to rot. No wonder youth interest in cricket is diminishing at an alarming rate.

Same thing happened with Faisal Akram who was a terrific bowler at U13,16 and U19 stage and picked up loads of wickets but then he got sidelined for 3 years and didn't get to play domestic cricket for no reason and lost his prime development years and now he lost his revs and become merely an above average bowler who may do well on turning tracks only.

It's not that we are over flowing with batting and spinning talent either and the ones who are actually talented are left to rot. and then we say we have no upcoming talent at any level. We do have upcoming talent but that talent is just not pursuing cricket as a career.

We are only getting young players who are horrible in studies and have no hope of getting a good future in other field because of lack of IQ and intelligence so they are just trying their luck in cricket , the talented ones are not bother with cricket at all even in the villages now as the city boys left pursuing cricket more than 2 decades ago.

Vikram Rathour, RR's batting coach, had invited Vaibhav for a trial at the nets and his task was to score 17 runs in an over delivered by a quick bowling at approx 140 clicks. Vaibhav struck 3 sixes off the first 3 balls.

Source - local newspaper.

Should note that vaibhav has struggled to kick on in Ranji matches so far which is promising as far as I am concerned. Proof that Ranji runs hold some value and do not come cheap.

He will find a way eventually. As you said Ranji isn't easy, just below Internationals and maybe county

Yeah... he does not look promising at all. Technique was all over the place. could not middle a single ball today

Offside stroke play reminds me of combination of Ganguly and Sadagopan Ramesh. Only that this kid seems to have the ability to play the pull shot...

That's not prime development and if you practice you don't loose revs

Looks like a 15 year old, and such cases should be caught very early in the career. Wouldn't recommend a ban as he didnt choose to be age-fudger as a toddler, but there needs to be a big fine.

He is 16. But then he was up against a bowling attack that looked anywhere upto 24 years of age.

Can't judge him based on today.

He can be 13, 15, 17, who cares?

The last time we were hearing about such talent was when Pritvi Shaw burst on the seen.

He was all set to be the next MRF sponsored batsman, but IPL (and the celebratory parathes) exposed the reality with him too.

Mark my words - India's biggest problem now is the next MRF sponsored batsman, which without, there is no consumerism in Indian cricket.

No one is laughing at the bowlers age and even if their ages are in correct it's not as much as this guy, this guy is pretending to be 13 when he's clearly older and on top looked clueless at the crease.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024:

- 1 (9) v Pakistan U19
- 23 (23) v Japan U19

Have stopped laughing at these things from India batters, very likely he will turn it around and become the next SRT

He is 16 pretending to be 13. That's a 3 year gap. That looks like the average gap for almost all your players.

If BCCI finds out he has faked age at later stage his career will be over. Some lost their career for 2 or 3 months fraud.

We haven’t found a replacement for Sachin since his retirement.

on top on it he is a serious age fudger.rasikh salams was banned for 2 years becoz his age was found to be inaccurate by 3 months.going by the same logic he should also be banned
seems to be another overhyped batsman like prithvi shaw

You have to be a stand out performer. I don't think he has done anything remotely close to that.

Great batting against Sri Lanka in semi final...another blistering knock so far.

60 runs so far of just 32 balls...

Two good knocks back to back. Even if he is 16, he is playing pretty at par or above everyone else in the team.

The most cheesiest moment of IPL lol. They want to be like the European football clubs now picking bunch of 12 year old prodigy.

Why can’t IPL be like European football clubs? Is backing a young prodigy is only reserved to bunch of Europeans? What kind of comment is it? May be your BPL has some inferiority complex but IPL is world class and will surpass some of those European clubs in couple of decades
