[PICTURES/VIDEO] Australia tour of Sri Lanka (2025)

You can disagree all you want but wtc cycle is over. Now time to focus on wtc 2027.

And I'm hoping the minnows like pak or Sri Lanka show up. It's boring to see aus dominate wtc over and over
I actually was not seeking your permission on my agreement or disagreement to your stated view .

Travis Head tried to counter attack and perished. That allowed Jayasuriya to bowl. With two lefties SL was not introducing Jayasuriya looks like. Travis head has opened the door.

Not sure why Labu is not rested or dropped.. He has been a walking wicket

Steve smith getting a 36th test century would be insane. What a test resurgence it has been for him.

If he gets a 36th test century, that's 3 test centuries in 4 test games, that's crazy

Pitch is so slow. It suits Khawaja's style of batting who literally plays inches from stumps. It gives him all the time in the world to play.

A lot of guys here were using performances of Abdullah Shafique at Galle to defend him all the time. Turns out every big team can score buffet runs against Sri Lanka!

@mominsaigol Carey proving Rizwan is so overrated :ROFLMAO:
Not only that Steve smith giving babar azam a 101 on how to revive your career.

Steve smith is what babar and rizwan fans wish they could be. Because

A) Steve Smith started out as a rubbish pseudo allrounder who wouldn't even make Australia's 3rd string.

B) Decided to focus on batting and had a very weird technique.

C) Instantly went on century galore mode in 2014, One year later he wins 2015 wc for his country by dominating in QF, SF, And F.

D) Proceeds to dominate in test cricket from 2016 to 2023, falters in odi cricket, but still manages to be at his best vs India by bashing them, Highlight being his 62 ball 100 in 2021 against the likes of shami, Bumrah etc etc.

E) Loses form post wtc 2023 and people start to question whether he shpuld retire.

F) Comes back with 4 test centuries in 5 test games, 2 of them being in winning causes, one being a rained off game and this game is still ongoing.

Similarly the narratives for babar and rizwan are

A) rizwan was a crap batsmen and wasn't even a fielders who couldn't make it into the 11.

B) Given opportunity in 2019 and became captain and became the best wk in the world despite having a weird technique.

C) Babar came onto the scene as Pakistan's greatest batsmen of all time, Had a form slump but his resurgence is on the way.

^^ Hamari kom jhoot pei jhoot bolti hi raheti hai 🤣🤣.

Agreed. Kaptana Rizwan being a wk/bat still has a much better home vs away record than Head.
Head has a higher avg then rizwan, more centuries at home even though rizwan's 3 centuries came pre aqib era when the likes of Babar, Brooks and Khawaja were avg 70, 150 and 105 respectively.

Brooks ran a lottery on these pitches lol, so much so that even Bradman would be jealous?

Travis's one neutral century in England ensured a wtc win?

I fail to see how rizwan is a better test batsmen when he's barely avg 40 and has zero away or neutral centuries?

If you're referring to away avg, you realise his avh is heavily inflated due to not outs correct? Look at the sri lanka series scorecard.

His best performances come in NZ and Aus where he had a purple patch moment.

I don't care about that obvious Ai bot troll, But you're a poster that I respect alot.

One thing to claim travis head is overrated which he kind of is, since he's mostly an Indian basher and england(in odi only) and a terrific t20 player.

Another to claim that a barely 40 avg batter with zero away centuries is > him lol.

Rizwan doesn't even have any winning contributions in test cricket while Wtc and 2 BGT games are solely won by Head.

Inning defeat???? or 10 wicket defeat loading

Day 3: Lunch Break - Australia lead by 157 runs

SL 257
AUS 414 (106.4) CRR: 3.88

Sri Lanka pulled things back slightly. They took 7 wickets for the last 64 runs.

Aussies are still ahead, however.

This KUnemann's deliveries are coming like rocket off the surface. He is skidding like Jadeja. Just gives you absolutely no time to react. Opposite of warrican.

Looks like Lankans have saved themselves from an inning defeat

Day 3: Tea Break - Sri Lanka trail by 59 runs

AUS 414
SL 257 & 98/4 (33) CRR: 2.97

Yes just like babar is the best cause he lost his phone 🤡.

Oh umm what did he score against NZ today?
That losing the phone is a part of his Ufone campaign. You would get to see that ad during CT.

Now coming back to his runs, he should always and always bat at no. 3 in ODIs. The guy has 60+ avg, 5500 runs with 19 tons at a SR of 90.

Why fix something that isn't broken?

Maybe cause he was breaking at no 3 🤣🤣

Last time Australia won a series in Sri Lanka was in 2011.

Last time Australia whitewashed Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was in 2003.

Australia can achieve both today.

Back then sri lankan team was jam packed with atg's.

Australia came back to form in BGT. Their gonna be fine. Expect them to win WTC and ashes.

Yeah. Definitely.

2004 series was a good one. I saw it live. ATG SL vs ATG Australia. Australia won it 3-0.

Last time Australia whitewashed Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was in 2003.

Correction. It was 2004.

Australia beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in the second test match and win the series 2-0.

Australia ease to 2-0 Test series win in Sri Lanka as home opener Dimuth Karunaratne retires with defeat

Australia eased to a nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test at Galle to wrap up a 2-0 series win and send home opener Dimuth Karunaratne into retirement with a defeat.

Usman Khawaja (27no), Marnus Labuschagne (26no) and Travis Head (20) took the tourists to their victory target of 75 in 17.4 overs on the fourth morning - and to a first series triumph in Sri Lanka since 2011 - with Labuschagne clipping the winning single through square leg off Karunaratne's part-time off-spin.

Sri Lanka had earlier been dismissed for 231 in their second innings after adding 20 runs to their overnight 211-8.

Nathan Lyon (4-84) - who now has 553 Test wickets for Australia - and Beau Webster (2-6) claimed the final two scalps, removing Kusal Mendis (50) and tailender Lahiru Kumara (9) respectively.

Karunaratne had been out to Matthew Kuhnemann (4-63) for 14 a day earlier in his final Test innings, after making 36 on day one as he began his 100th and last game in the format.

The batter ends his Test career with 7,222 runs, fourth on Sri Lanka's all-time list behind Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews.

Karunaratne's match-ending over of spin was then the first time he had bowled in a Test in almost three years.

The Galle Test was also a milestone one for Australia's Steve Smith, whose fourth century in five games moved him to 36 in total, level with England's Joe Root and retired India great Rahul David.

Smith's five catches in the match took him to 200 in Tests, eclipsing the previous Australia record of 196 set by Ricky Ponting.

Australia - who won the first Test at the same venue by an innings and 242 runs - will now play Sri Lanka in a two-match ODI series before they take part in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the UAE, live on Sky Sports from February 19 to March 9.

Sri Lanka did not qualify for the Champions Trophy after finishing ninth of the 10 sides at the 2023 World Cup in India.

Smith credits plans as Australia ace trial by spin in Sri Lanka

Australia captain Steve Smith attributed their 2-0 series victory against Sri Lanka to the perfect execution of their batting plans against the turning ball in Galle.

A test series in Sri Lanka is often a trial by spin for any touring side but Australia came prepared with their batters using every trick in the book to unsettle Sri Lanka's formidable spin attack.

Australia needed to bat only once in the opening test when they amassed 654-6 declared after Usman Khawaja, Smith and Josh Inglis smashed hundreds.

In the second test, also in Galle, Smith and Alex Carey struck centuries as Australia swept the series after prevailing in a little over three days.

"The way we're playing the spinners at the moment, really good spinners, it's great to see," an elated Smith said after being adjudged player of the series.

"We had a really good training camp in Dubai for a week before coming here, where guys were just able to work on their methods.

"All of our batters bat really differently. Usman, Carey and Inglis use the sweep a lot. Myself and Marnus (Labuschagne) like to get down the wicket. Travis (Head) uses his crease really well."

"I think everyone has their own individual plans and sticks to it for long periods of time, and I think that's why we've been successful in this series."

Australia's spin bowlers also relished the turning track in Galle with Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon claiming 30 of the 40 Sri Lankan wickets between themselves.

Sri Lanka managed 165 and 247 in the opening test and 257 and 231 in the second.

Home captain Dhananjaya de Silva conceded they could not stop Australia from grabbing early control in both the tests.
"I am always talking about the first innings," the all-rounder said.

"Be it batting or bowling. We haven't done well. We had the best time to bat but 260 was not enough to win a test match."
He also felt the Sri Lankan spinners lacked the consistency of their Australian counterparts.

"The consistency was not there, I spoke to the coaches.

"They put the ball every time in the same place, with the same trajectory. It was very hard to score for the batsmen."

HTB Head failed one final time on Lankan soil today. One of the most medicore HTB going around. Talent wise I would rate him on par with Rahane and Asad Shafique.

@Rana @topspin @TheSultan @emranabbas @Nikhil_cric @Hitman

Doesn't make you sound smarter, it's annoying and annoys the people you're pinging.

Now even though you're a troll I'll try to explain this in a very simple manner to you.

If this was a comparison with someone like Steve smith, Sehwag, Sachin, Younis etc etc then your point would stand, Since you're comparing a HTB Travis who has a medicore record overseas to ATG who have dominated across the globe and won many games for their country.

However the problem is you're comparing Travis to a player who not only averages lesser then Travis Head but has the same number of centuries on pitches where usman khawaja + Brooks Avg 100+.

Travis Head is a Big factor as to why Australia is so dominant at home. He's not the only factor but he is a huge part of it which allows Australia to pretty much qualify for WTC without any issues.

Babar on the other hand, if he were a HTB, I'd be jumping in Joy since pakistan desperately needs a HTB to wipe off their rubbish record at home.

But he's not, at his peak on phattas he got outperformed by multiple people who toured unlike Travis who top scored and had the highest avg in BGT.

It was so bad, that Aqib had to drop Babar from home tests and curate lottery pitches and desperately hope that Pakistan wins its tosses to achieve a result.

Don't compare a HTB to a player who can't even be one, and is overall rubbish overseas with only one away century, That too with his worst avg being 25 in aus the same ground where Travis Head is at his best.

It's a huge huge shame that Travis Head never got to play on those Bradman Brooks flat tracks.

@Rana I believe Jake fraser mcgurk will come out and shine by mid 2025.

Unlike Van goh sahib, Fraser and Konstas are the players I back.

Australia wouldn't select these 2 for no reason. Even if you argue that Australia is currently low on stocks of talent, Their players with better avg and better performances in List A such as Nathan Mcsweeny who averages 40+.

Yet CA is adamant on Fraser. CA is not known to be bad at identifying talent.

Expecting some fireworks from Head now that the tests are done. He will fill his boots.
