Will wait to see if they'd be actual sell outs with every single seat in the ground being full.

After all that's the least you'd expect with such a line up of players being at the fore front.

I have (tried to) contain my excitement for this series, but seeing these photos just now gave me goosebumps. Can't wait.

Looks as if the boys are sitting in some spaceship! Welcome to Lahore, "jinne Lahore nehi vaykaya oh jamaya hi nein!". Nein reesan shehar Lahore deeyan!

Can't wait to hear the Qaumi Tarana being played in front of a packed crowd at Gaddafi. Will be surreal.

World XI squad lands in Lahore amid tight security ahead of series opener on September 12

Punjab Province: A World XI squad comprising 13 players from seven top cricket-playing nations landed in Lahore early Monday amid massive security, with Pakistan hoping the tour will end years of international isolation.

Pakistan has not hosted top-level international cricket -- barring five limited over matches against minnows Zimbabwe in 2015 -- since the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by terrorists in March 2009, killing eight people and injuring seven players and staff.

The World XI, which will play three Twenty20 internationals from Tuesday, arrived around 2:00am Pakistan time (2100 GMT) with air surveillance and dozens of police vans in attendance as the team was whisked to their hotel.

Both the hotel and stadium will be cordoned off with 9,000 police and paramilitary staff deployed during the next five days.

The World XI is led by South African skipper Faf du Plessis and coached by former Zimbabwe batsman and ex-England coach Andy Flower.

A fourteenth player, Samuel Badree of the West Indies, will arrive later Monday.

Earlier on Sunday Malik Mohammad Khan, a spokesperson for the government of Punjab province, of which Lahore is the capital, said authorities were providing "foolproof security for the World XI with a big contingent of security officials deployed".

Parts of the city near the stadium will be cordoned off, with shops and restaurants around the venue to be shut for the duration of the series while spectators will have to pass through multiple security checkpoints.

Since the 2009 attack Pakistan have been forced to play most of their "home" games in the United Arab Emirates -- with the Pakistan Cricket Board complaining they have incurred losses of around $120 million.

But security has dramatically improved across Pakistan in the last two years, signalling hopes for the slow revival of international sport in the country.

In March, Pakistan successfully hosted the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 final in Lahore with English players Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan, West Indies` Darren Sammy and Marlon Samuels and South Africa`s Morne van Wyk and Zimbabwe`s Sean Ervine competing.

Punjab ready to host 3-match T20 series

International cricket is all set to return to Pakistan on Tuesday (tomorrow) with a three-match T20 series in which the national cricket team will face off against World XI at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The first T20 match is slated for September 12, the second for September 13, and the third match will be played on September 15.

Punjab sports minister has ordered all concerned institutions to spare no effort in making the World XI T20 series a success.

“The Punjab government wants to restore recreational activities for all citizens,” Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jahangir Khanzada said during a press briefing regarding the Independence Cup at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam on Sunday.

He said, “A 25-bed temporary hospital facility is being made available in National Hockey Stadium with the cooperation of Punjab Sports Board, while an eight-bed temporary hospital is also being set up in PC Hotel Lahore where paramedics’ staff, including doctors, will be present.”

Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmad Khan, DIG Operations Haider Ashraf, CTO Lahore Rai Ijaz Ahmad, Commissioner Lahore Division Abdullah Sumbal and a large number of media representatives were present on the occasion.

The Punjab government is utilising all of its resources to promote international sports activities, said the spokesman, who is also special assistant on information and culture to the Punjab chief minister.

“After Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in the provincial metropolis, successful holding of World XI matches of Independence Cup will not only cast a positive image of Punjab but also Pakistan as a peaceful and sports-friendly nation throughout the world,” said Khan during the presser.

Commissioner Sumbal said, “Arrangements have been made at all enclosures at Qaddafi Stadium for providing basic facilities to all citizens. A final shape is being given to best cleanliness arrangements through joint efforts of Lahore Waste Management Company. Electric coolers and filtration plants are being installed inside the stadium so that cricket lovers can drink cold water.” All edible items will be available at controlled rates within the limits of the stadium, he added.

The DIG operations said, “19 SPs, 45 DSPs and 6,000 police officials will be deployed at the venue to provide security. Four-tier VIP securities will be provided to the players.”

CTO Lahore, giving details of Traffic Advisory Plan, said, “A traffic plan has been evolved for smooth flow of traffic in Lahore. For information on alternate routes, citizens of Lahore can contact traffic police helpline 15.”

Public transport like taxis and rickshaws will not be allowed in the parking area to avoid any untoward incident, while it is compulsory for the spectators to bring their tickets and identity cards otherwise they will not be allowed to enter the stadium, he added.

At the conclusion of the press briefing, spokesman Khan said the Punjab government seeks full cooperation of civil society and media for restoring cricket. “Senior leaders of all the parties have been invited with the cooperation of Pakistan Cricket Board,” he added.

Looks like July,1969: One giant leap for CricketKind.

Congratulations astronauts(cricketers).

Historical moment for Pak cricket and world cricket. Hope, after this no cricket country would be banned from cricket for any terror threat ever.

I thought there would be a match in Karachi as well. Why only Lahore?

Because the PSL final and the Zimbabwe tour were all in Lahore so teams are satisfied with the security arrangements for Lahore. No high profile matches have been played in Karachi since the 2009 Lahore bus attacks hence the visiting teams aren't as convinced by the security arrangements at venues other than Lahore. Fairly ironic seeing as the Sri Lanka team bus was actually attacked in Lahore
