One severely underrated player on Pakpassion these days, is one Aaron Finch. A hard-hitting batsman who has the patience to grind out a fifty on a tough pitch with the opposing bowlers at their best but also possesses a power game that not many have ever matched.

When I watch him play, I am reminded of the last dominating brute to have opened the batting for Australia, Matthew Hayden. Finch has a long trek ahead of him if he is to match his predecessor but I feel that he has all the tools available for this journey.

His innings against the Kiwi side in the current invitational match has further enhanced this comparison, in my eyes at least. He smacked the Black Caps around in an innings of 288 at a SR of just under 80, showing little mercy but lots of swagger.

Any other Finch fans out there? Any haters or doubters that want to place their head on the chopping block?

I feel that the following posters will have a lot to offer on the topic of Aaron Finch: Convict Aman Random Aussie.

Has my endorsement.

Experienced first hand what a good Test prospect he is, only a matter of time before the selectors have him opening for the Aussie Test side.

Obviously, those who have an obsession with good looking strokes don't rate him much despite his effectiveness. However, it's only now that he has really made a case for a test call. Didn't perform much in Sheild till now.

He needs to be brought into the test side, ASAP. Give him ten matches to prove himself and he'll be a top batter for Australia. Aman will be so jealous.

I already made an Aaron Finch troll thread yesterday.

Should be a good red ball player for Geelong

One important thing PP'ers on the forum need to note, is that respected Aussie Convict hails from a non Victorian area of Australia, and is thus an inferior Aussie.

As a result of this he has a gigantic Finch shaped inferiority complex and he cannot respect any Victorian Aussie, which unfortunately transfers into unnatural hatred for Victorian opening batsmen such as the next Hayden Bilal7 has pointed out, Aaron Finch.

It is for that reason that every post he makes should be disregarded, for in fact when he bashes (As he no doubt will) this gargantuan talent of the game, he is in fact unwittingly giving him his support, as any Victorian he bashes he bashes as he sees it as a threat to his state's dominance of the Australian team.

Aaron Finch, so good even his hate mail is praise.

Shame that only the resident member of Australia's eastern state, Aman, can overlook regional bias and witness the glory.

I'd personally mortgage my soul to Monsanto to see just one over of Ishant vs Finch, because the ensuing battle would bring about the Rapture (and not the Andrew Ryan kind)

Can you stop derailing the thread with your obvious trolling?

You're underestimating Finch.

News is that the game probably won't be counted as a first class match

OP is a troll. It's just that he trolls in a very subtle way so no one thinks he is trolling. This is a troll thread.

A slogger who scored a 288 against New Zealand, with Southee and Henry present? Must be an awesome slogger.

Southee only bowled 3 overs. The other guy also scored a double hundred.

Don't really rate him tbh.

Looks like a farm wicket. Which is the level of red ball cricket Finch belongs at

Not really.

You rang? Finch is a hack. He's a good batter against bad bowling if they drop the easy catch he always gives early. Mitch Starc is a better batsman.

Hopefully Saker sticks with Dean for a while. Just got a debut century today.

I don't rate him at all, if I'm honest. He's a decent option at best in ODIs but hasn't set the world alight in that format either. It's the T20s where he's absolutely deadly.

In Tests, he may perform on flat Aussie phattas (just like he did in the warm-up) and may very well be a devastating option at home but I certainly don't see him surviving in England/NZ/SA because of his lack of technique against the new ball. Neither do I see him as a viable option in Tests on the dustbowls of India or against Pakistan's spin attack in UAE.

Overall, he's winning me over in ODIs, he's a beast in T20s and if he goes on to have a successful Test career, I would be pleasantly surprised as it's always great to watch a deadly strokemaker (like Hayden) in full flow in Tests.

No

Absolutely horrid decision to leave Finch out of the test squad. He is the one player who could survive Boult and Southee's opening spell.

Seeing nothing but negativity in this thread which is disappointing. You'll soon see Finch score a double-century in a test match and I want you all to utter the words "Told you so", on my behalf when he does.

You're forgetting RGL Carters

He's a useless hack. Australia may as well open the batting with Chamara Kapugedera, if the selectors pick Finch.

Is this thread for real or a joke?

Hayden is the best (or second best with GC Smith) opener of the last 20 years and you are saying a nobody.

Finch is 29 and averages 33 in first class, and even if you don't look at stats he is so poor.
Should never be in a test squad
should not be playing ODI's for Australia
T20 is the only format he can be selected but even there I will not select him.

The innings he played against India in the semi final could have hurt them so much, but thanksfully Smith player so well at the other end.

I watched him just once. Against Pakistan in the 2015 world cup and he looked rubbish to me.

Really comparing this slogger to Hayden? Maybe he should aim on getting in his state team before the Aussie team?

Aaron Finch is a dangerous player like Watson, he would decimate his opposition on his good day, only on his good day.

With Aussies running low on batting talent and options Finch wouldnt be that bad an option.

I'd personally mortgage my soul to Monsanto to see just one over of Ishant vs Finch, because the ensuing battle would bring about the Rapture (and not the Andrew Ryan kind)

Not even a 4k camera can do justice to such an amazing over. Even your own eyes are not good enough.

OP should be hanged upside down for making this ludicrous comparison and be punished with 50 lashes for the same. There is just nothing Finchy has done to be even considered eligible to be named alongside Matthew Hayden. Haydoz was a great player, an absolute bully with the bat, with a swag few players Have exhibited ever

Yes, lash me but when Finch becomes a superstar, you better kiss those wounds.

He has all the tools, just needs the management to back him. People can laugh at his technique all they want but Hayden didn't have the best technique either.

Hayden wasn't struggling to get into his state team and performing like a club cricketer when he did though...

Can you enlighten us as to whether youre simply trolling now?

Arey yar, Johnny mat ban.

Its not about numbers but the aura and stature. Haydoz was a beast. He did things with ease and with certain swag no one has displayed before. From 2001 to 2004 there wasn't a bigger bully in all cricket than Hayden. God mode.

The height of injustice that Finch isn't playing the current match. Hopefully the selectors realize that he's a much better option than Burns.

Finch
Warner
Khawaja
Smith

Solid but brutal top-order.

Just imagine the phainta Boult and Southee would've gotten had they faced an opening stand of Finch and Warner.

Think we could've seen 800 in the first day yesterday

Hitting 50's at ease in the Shield nowadays. Only a matter of time before he dons the baggy green

Captained Victoria in their last game actually. What a fighter considering he was farcically dropped not long ago.

Seems CA have instructed Victoria to let him captain, being groomed for the senior position it seems.

Just in time for Pakistan next year, man I pity your bowlers. Wont know what hit em.

Haydo is criminally underrated.. What a beast!

Hayden could actually hack it in the top order.

Keep Finch away from the new ball and let him face trundlers like Tye and Moody and he's almost FC standard

29 years of age but he doesn't need to doubt himself, despite the injustice that has been done to him. I can see him playing international cricket for five or six more years, in all formats, and having a golden, memorable run like Mike Hussey.

Once again the legend is left to carry his entire nation on his shoulders.

Australia 95/8

Aaron Finch 69* off 85 balls.

On an absolute minefield of a track, just shows how his defensive game is miles ahead of his teammates including the hugely overrated Warner and Smith.

Cant wait till we see innings like this in test cricket.

Didn't rated him at all. But I have started liking him a bit nowadays.Good knock today. He has a good defensive game and can grind out and play long innings.

Thread was dormant for 6 months.

Attack the message not the messenger

has a day night difference in caliber, hayden was the bloke who use to smoke akther for 4's

Better LOI batsman than Davey Warner. Should be given a test debut, ASAP.

Aussie Khurram Manzoor basically.

Give Khurram Manzoor a shot on the UAE flatties and not the seaming and swinging nightmare in Bangladesh where even Kohli had to be extra cautious, and he will go toe to toe with Aaron the Finch.

Even against spin Manzoor is better.

Already our Khurram has better credentials as someone who tamed peak Steyn, Morkel, prime Philander while blowing a kiss to a seething Steyn.

Only a hypocrite will say Finch is like Hayden but Khurram should be kept away.

#justiceformanzoor

Legend strikes again, myself and Bilal7 proven right once more.

First game back into the ODI side and he's captain, must be the first Australian ever to manage that. Legend, get him in the test team.

Gave Heazlett his debut as well, shows he he's shepherding Australia's new talent.
