What's new

[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Can a fitter looking Sharjeel Khan be ready for a comeback for Pakistan?

It’s called teamwork. Especially if your batting partner is righty, if both batsmen are hitting boundaries on both sides of a wicket, it completely messes a bowlers plans and rhythm. Which then makes it easier for both batsmen to score even more heavily. It ain’t rocket science chief

Well, how can you blame Sharjeel for his partner not scoring his runs with the same impact he does? Nothing as such has even happened yet. Relax dude!

So basically the old regime was keeping Sharjeel out because apparently he doesn’t know how to “rotate strike”.

How silly does that sound in the modern era of 2 new balls, free hits, 1 bouncer rule, flat tracks and b string bowling attacks.

No wonder we have the worst strike rates in white ball history as a nation

I am very pleased he has lost weight. It will be good for his health, reduce risk of heart attack, diabetes and should be better for his mental health too.

However he is a corrupt fixer. Therefore he should not play for Pakistan. Cannot be trusted.

Personally, I don't believe in "corrupt fixer" tag that should result in a life time ban. We have current rules in place that allow the man to restart after he has done his time. This is fair enough.

And seriously, with what face Pakistanis call others as "corrupt"? Isn't the ENTIRE NATION corrupt to the core? It's very ironic.

Isnt Ramiz Raja corrupt since he got the post due to friendship with IK? He was never qualified for this job.

To be honest, I rather have a player that never rotates strike but scores at 10+ RPO. It is a much better tempo for LOI. That means low chance of run outs.

How is it Sharjeel fault when he times the ball SO WELL that he rarely hits those unpleasantly timed shots (which are referred to as singles by others).

He doesn't have a life time ban. He can play domestic, PSL etc. Representing the country is different, however.

In terms of 'entire nation' being corrupt. Yes, I suppose most Pakistanis will have done some borderline corrupt things at some point. However the difference with fixing in all sport is that you are essentially breaking a social contract about fair play and good faith. For a sportsman to fix is literally the worst thing they can do as it defeats the entire purpose of sport. It is a red line. Put it this way - in the UK, doctors, lawyers, teachers etc can all be struck off and banned from their profession for ever if they cross certain lines. That line in sport is fixing / scripting the action for corrupt purposes.

No idea if Ramiz Raja is corrupt. I think other than the pitches he did a reasonable job as PCB chairman. Was definitely qualified.

Ignored for Pakistan v NZ ODI series.

Did not get clearance from PCB for Sharjeel’s inclusion: Afridi

KARACHI: Opening batter Sharjeel Khan’s possible return to Pakistan’s white-ball squad was delayed as selection committee could not get green signal from the PCB Management Committee for the left-hander’s inclusion.

Sharjeel was included in 24 probable players for the series and was considered to be among favorites for the inclusion in three ODIs against New Zealand.

However, he was not named in the 16-member squad announced on Thursday.

Interim selection committee’s chairman Shahid Afridi confirmed that he did not get green signal from the PCB to include Sharjeel in the team.

“Sharjeel Khan was included in the probable players list seeing his performance in domestic but was not retained in final squad as I did not get green signal from PCB chairman on his inclusion in the team,” said Afridi directing towards the spot-fixing scandal occurred during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in UAE.

Khan was named in PSL spot-fixing scandal in 2017 and was suspended for five years from playing any form of cricket. Half of his sentence was suspended which allowed him to make a comeback in 2019.

He subsequently played in PSL and domestic tournaments and toured with Pakistan team to Zimbabwe, South Africa and West Indies to play T20Is.

well well well, so even the new PCB is not letting this corrupt player play Rana and you did the most cheerleading

Dude it was Misbah who brought him back, so which management is more supportive of corrupt players?

So, Najam Sethi is the Chief Selector…

Wasn’t there a video of Sethi recently saying he’ll support Amir’s return because he believes fixers shouldn’t be banned for life if they’ve paid the penalty.

Najam Sethi needs to go ASAP

Relax dude

Sharjeel isn’t really needed in ODI

Nah man this just means he’s not getting picked for any format, green signal doesn’t just apply to ODI’s.

Najam Sethi is a hypocrite.

He will be pressed on this

Personally I think they didn’t want to make their first independent selection look like they are tolerant of fixers/tainted players.

Afridi also said Sharjeel is in their future plans. It’s a game of patience. InshaAllah the right players will be picked for the right format at the right time

So the old management supported corrupt players but Sethi hasn’t? What is your point?

point is, the sethi you celebrated hasnt selected your favorite corrupt player, YET.

I think the corrupt lot will be back eventually, but till the time they are not, I will tease you :), because you celebrated having Sethi back only cause your favorites will play

Exact quote from Shahid Afridi on Sharjeel Khan:

"We did not get a green signal about Sharjeel Khan from the Chairman, maybe it had some connection with what happened in Dubai but when we do get the green signal on him, we will look at this again"

Sharjeel has not done enough. He had two PSL seasons post comeback & got outperformed by a dozen batsmen.

He was given a couple of T20Is against the West Indies in 2021 & he failed.

The upcoming PSL will present another opportunity for Sharjeel to take the tournament by storm & put pressure on PCB. If he fails, he has no one to blame.

Performing in National T20 Cup & Pakistan Cup becomes quite irrelevant when you do not perform in the PSL.

Why was he named in the 24 player provisional squad if there was no chance of him getting approval from the Chairman to be picked.

Sharjeel Khan b Nasir Hossain 7(11) - 11/1 in 3.3 ov.

They should move on from Sharjeel and Amir , they are corrupt and also cannot play the naive/young card to fixing or talking bad about their own former teammates which does hurt as Shadab said in an interview prior to the WT20 final

Another failure for Sharjeel today in BPL - made 5 from 7 deliveries.

Failed to make an impression in the BPL - benched for most games.

What hope do we have for him to succeed in the PSL?

But But I thought he was the savior to our woes and would have won the WorldT20 for us 🤔

Sharjeel Khan was the first batter to score a century in the HBL PSL. He clubbed eight sixes in his 62-ball 117 for Islamabad United against Peshawar Zalmi in the second qualifier and Islamabad were eventually crowned champions of the inaugural edition. He has, to date, smashed 72 HBL PSL sixes, one less than Fakhar.

Sharjeel, who since his return to the HBL PSL in 2020 has been in Karachi Kings, has hit a boundary every 4.5 ball in the HBL PSL and that is because of his desire to make the most of the Powerplays.

Sharjeel: “I believe 70 to 80 per cent of the match is defined by how the first six overs go. What I have learned over the years that a team which has the most boundaries wins the match, so I try to milk the first six overs.

“I am also looking to lay a solid platform for my side and if I continue to bat after the completion of the first six overs then I look to make sure that I carry that momentum.

“It is important to not to forget the basics and try to gauge the conditions. So usually, I do try to take four balls or an over as every day is a new day and conditions are different. Whether I am facing a spinner or a pacer, the plan remains the same, examine the conditions and then go for the attack and this often proves to be beneficial for the team as well.”

The only time my support for this guy waned was after the fixing debacle. I wanted to see if he’d get to the point he was at in 2016 pre ban. He had begun working on his game to go from legside favoring to being able to play all around the wicket.

Before that in 2013 everyone was hyped for this guy to make his debut, and he finally did Vs SL iirc, and it was fantastic. One of the most hyped debuts alongside Fakhar. Sad that they haven’t featured together in internationals.

Come back wasn’t the most eye catching. But now he’s fitter and performing. And I’m happy for him. If Shan can get into an ODI squad, I don’t see why Sharjeel can’t play in t20s and even ODIs. Fixing excuse won’t work after we opened the doors for Amir.

.

He flopped in the BPL, his franchise dropped him for the subsequent games.

KK Head Coach: Johan Botha

Yeah, he's one of the best cricketers in the world. I think Sharjeel [Khan] is still obviously at the top, which he has done very well over the last few years.

Oh dear.

Not the start he or KK wanted at PSL8.

Still looks a big unit doesn't he.

Sharjeel is power hitter but his technique is poor.He won’t long against quality bowling.

Not really international class based on recent BPL form too, and is a liability on the field.

Could still be a domestic giant for 2-3 years and make a decent career.

Wow, one duck and the knives are out…every single poster on here celebrating better hope Babar and Rizwan don’t get ducks !!!

Rana thoughts on the innings that the No.1 opener in Pakistan played last night?

Babar and Riz may get ducks but theyve got the quality to bounce back with regular good knocks They are assets and match winners for their teams They are fit, hungry and quality cricketers Which im afraid sharjeel isnt

Fit, quality, and hungry cricketers that have won us nothing…woohoo

Give him the same amount of games as Babar and Rizwan and you’ll see the trophy cabinet filling up.

Yes of course Sharjeel cant make any runs in domestic cricket but he ll smash intnl bowlers around the world and singlehandedly win pakistan the world cup

Pakistan have only won three trophies in their history. So many great Pakistani players weren’t able to win a trophy for Pakistan, but an overweight fixer who isn’t good enough for domestic cricket will win an international trophy for Pakistan. :)))

Sharjeel fans are delusional.

Much better from Sharjeel today! Looks set for a good score. KK depending on him

Nice from Sharjeel

34 off 26 balls today.

Not great was it.

If others had played that sort of innings, they'd be getting a lot of stick.

Great player of 145kmh+ pace

Strong on the leg and off

A delightful player to watch when he gets going

The best T20 opener in Pakistan alongside Fakhar Zaman

He played some good shots but also got stuck at the crease.

Haider kept breaking the momentum. Haider is product of current set up. Dot ball consumption is very much standard for him.

If we are going to criticise Azam Khan for his fielding then Sharjeel Khan is the same category.

Slow across the ground and drops plenty of catches.

He should just retire. He has no future and is blocking promising youngsters from getting a spot in the team

How could his time Pass if there is NO ONE that can do a better job than him in the powerplay in Pakistan?

Right, so Sharjeel has not been given a fair run against b/c string sides like Rizwan and Babar have in International cricket.

I recon he will replicate his domestic 100 conversion form against the same types of teams Rizwan has scored 50s against at International cricket. Where Rizwan has scored 50s, Sharjeel will either get out for 10s, 20s or 30s at a brisk pace (playing for the team and not for himself), or he will score hundreds before the 15th/16th over.

In summary, Sharjeel will score less 50s, and more hundreds. He is a different mould, and the correct mould of T20 opener.

I have responded to you fairly and without being disrespectful. My views are based on my understanding of this game, and I am fairly confident that I read it with honesty and without bias. I would appreciate a similar mode of discourse from you too. Baqi aapki marzi
