So, here's the news item

"The Pakistan Cricket Board has scheduled a one-day connection camp for top cricketers in Lahore on September 23. This follows the final pool match of the Champions One-Day Cup on September 22. The playoffs will begin on September 24, giving players a day to rest in between.

Star players, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Saim Ayub, have been invited to participate. Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, will be present, along with red-ball coach Jason Gillespie, who will arrive in Lahore on September 22."

Can someone please explain the reason and what "connection" they need to make here?

Sounds like another "surgery" type thing to me.

Looks like something for social media.

This camp sounds like a camp where players will sit around a table and have a chat with each other.

This is a "HI HELLO CAMP" actually

It will be great for team bonding. Mohsin Naqvi is a patriotic Pakistani and he is trying to instill unity among Pakistan cricketers, something that has been missing in recent times.

What will they be connecting with or to?

You can gather a hundred players and make them take a pledge of allegiance that they will play an aggressive brand of cricket but trust me it all comes down to what you do under pressure and when the game is in the balance. When deep down you have the fear of losing and the consequences of losing in your heart, in your dressing room, in your system then nothing will change and everything will just be empty talk and nothing else.

You think the PCB Higher ups, the domestic and national team coaches haven't had this talk of aggressive ruthless cricket with the players before?

If you speak to the players, they will simply tell you that the unpredictable culture, selection chopping and changes, ruthless criticism from ex players, non blue eyed boys getting dropped after 2-3 failures and blue eyed boys getting an annuity of chances despite mediocre inconsistent performances is what makes players selfish and forces them to adopt a slow, selfish stat padding approach at the expense of the team so that the players can book their spot for the next match and series.

Shan Masood is being referred to as star player.

All you needed to know.

Can't they just go to dinner and chill without having it to make public knowledge like it's some big thing when it isn't?

Anyway what's up with advertising such a camp. Such things are better done privately and only be revealed years later. What a wonderful story it would have been in 2030. "During 2024 when team members were full of conflicts amongst them and as a result we were losing games left, right and centre; we held many connection camps and sort out their differences and gelled them as a unit and then team started to play together as a unit"

Aren't these players playing together for quite a while now? What's the point of a connection camp?

If these players were all new, it would've made more sense.

PCB to host strategic Connection Camp for Pakistan cricket’s future vision on Monday

Lahore, 22 September 2024:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will host a high-level Connection Camp at a local hotel on Monday, aiming to establish a clear and unified vision for the future of Pakistan cricket. This strategic session follows a series of consultations PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has had with former cricketers since assuming office earlier this year.

The camp will bring together nine elite cricketers, including Babar Azam (Pakistan’s white-ball captain), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shan Masood (Pakistan’s red-ball captain). Joining them will be national team head coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood and High Performance specialist David Reid.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will lead the day-long session, accompanied by the PCB’s leadership team.

The primary objective of the camp is to define a shared vision and mission, along with setting a roadmap to reignite the pride and excellence that has characterised Pakistan cricket since achieving Test status in 1952.

The session will focus on fostering stronger collaboration between players and the PCB, while the board will reaffirm its commitment to supporting players in meeting strategic goals. The ultimate aim is for players to take a leading role in inspiring the next generation of cricketers through outstanding performances.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi:

“The Connection Camp is a critical step toward unifying our approach to restore Pakistan cricket to its former glory. Our aim is to identify key issues, foster open dialogue and collectively agree on a strategic path forward.

“By addressing these challenges directly, we will establish clear, actionable goals that meet the expectations of our passionate cricket fans.

“The PCB remains optimistic that this session, which builds on prior discussions with former cricketers, will lead to a results-driven strategy that improves both player management and team performance.

“This is the first step in an ongoing journey to reshape Pakistan cricket. The PCB will continue these collaborative efforts to ensure long-term success, keeping fans at the heart of our mission.”

Pakistan Test team captain Shan Masood:

“This is an important moment for us as players. We’re fully committed to working with the PCB to reignite the pride and passion that Pakistan cricket is known for. These discussions will help us set a strong course for the future and we are excited to be part of this collaborative effort.

“The outcomes of the session will include performance benchmarks, player development programmes and strategies to enhance grassroots cricket. This initiative aligns with the PCB’s vision to not only improve immediate team performance but also ensure long-term sustainability of excellence in the sport.”

Pakistan men’s team red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie:

“This camp provides a valuable opportunity for open dialogue and alignment between the coaching staff and players. We’re all striving toward the same goal - raising the standard of Pakistan cricket and creating a culture of winning.”

Pakistan men’s team white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten:

“As a coach, it is my responsibility to setup the best environment possible for the players to thrive. We will focus on refining our approach in white-ball cricket to meet the standards of the highest levels of international competition. Most importantly, we will do everything possible to ensure the people of Pakistan are proud of their national team.”

Naqvi is a mastermind politician. If Pakistan fails, its all the terrible past and if somehow PCT wins ... "All Hail the grand visionary Mohsin Naqvi saab"

Pakistan army tried to leverage T20 World Cup with player camp
Now Naqvi putting eggs in the Champions trophy basket.

Kirsten and Gillespie cannot keep talking to these ego maniacs with little to no school education. Eventually they don’t understand what the coaches are saying.

Useless camp. They all lack in skills, ego driven, secure place for next match mindset is that all they have. 2016 - 2019 was fruitful year under Mickey especially the white ball cricket with the emergence of young Babar, Fakhar and captain Sarfraz. Young players like shadab and hasan Ali pushing to perform and showcase their talent in the intl arena there was a hunger can see in their eyes.

It’s a knock off England equivalent when they got together and turned around their white ball fortunes. There was some sort of meeting which was the catalyst for putting the change in motion. Naqvi is calling it a connection camp. There will be videos of players sitting around a board room talking. Naqvi will be at the head of the table, Moyo will be there for sure, Kirsten sitting somewhere nearby observing intently but not understanding a word of the Urdu being spoken. Babar will be sitting next to Naqvi wearing sunglasses and a branded tshirt. The scene will then cut to them walking around an under construction Gadaffi stadium where Naqvi will be pointing to some enclosure explaining what is going on like he’s a structural engineer. Finally, everyone will pose for a photo with the One Nation One Passion backdrop. The next day Salman Butt will release a scathing YouTube video about how the PCB are a bunch of morons and Pakistan will then go on to get white washed 3-0 at home by England. Naqvi will then hastily arrange a Masters Cup First Class tournament to be played in Gujranwala to unearth the next big test stars even though the upcoming series are all limited overs.

I wonder what that camp was for. It seems like a seminar, which isn't necessary for the sports field. They're not scientists; they need on-field physical training.

You can see the draamaybaazi with these guys - caps worn backwards on their head, probably have no idea what Gillespie and Kirsten are saying, cracking jokes, etc. Ye kahin nahin jaa rahay.

Gary Kirsten in a press conference on "connection camp" today shared following thoughts:

"It was a fantastic time today to be part of this connection camp. I think the intention around it was to align our purposes for the team. I think we all agree we want the Pakistan team to be as successful as it possibly can be across all the formats. And we spend today just going through the various things that can help us and help the team be the best version of itself. So I think, from the team and the players in terms of their levels of professionalism, was one thing that we spoke about that was really important. And I think the commitments around making sure that they are. And present themselves as best they can for the for the nation, and to bring pride back into Pakistan cricket,"

"I think we we all want a successful team, don't we, and we want the team to do well in everything that they play in. And there's no reason why it can't. It's a very talented cricket team across all the formats, but there are processes that you need to put in place. And this and I think that's what we focusing on. We want to know that we got a robust system in the country and that there's competition for places, and that our team is unified in its approach to competing against the best teams in the world,"

Ouch. Painfully true.

The main question is unanswered: Where are the samosas? All I see is water bottles, how can you have creative ideas just on water. Brain needs nourishment.

Love the slide with one Giant photo of Mr. Naqvi :ROFLMAO:

I have read statements and all players sitting in the meeting camp said that we need to fight as one team and need to unite. So before this was they separate? Or playing for lahore islamabad or karachi? What type of unity are they talking about. Its an utter shame if they are talking about lack of unity in the team while sitting with each other.
What a pity shame!

Nonsense PR - Babar has been unable to middle anything for the past 2 years and is giving a lecture to others here, any merit-based organization would have thrown him out a year ago

Shaheen being there is a disgrace, the guy has nothing left to give and is more than happy to promote infighting

Our cricket is the laughing stock of the world... lowest I've ever seen it go (slightly less disgraceful than the spot fixing saga)...

So Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan are untrappable. Even Bangladesh can drop their senior players and win while we rather loose with senior players.
These foreign coaches are not doing anything significant rather than becoming Yes man to these parchi players.

If a PCB Chairman backed by the establishment cannot take action against the senior cabal of players who have not won anything for the last 4 plus years then no one can.
