[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Expectations from Maryam Nawaz as Punjab CM

I don't support her but this is commendable. A first for a sitting CM. PMLN is not without its controversies and flaws but MN is taking both the party and the country in the right direction.

This is robbery in the guise of development. This sort of stuff should be left to private entities and corporations. The government should be governing. I have not seen this nonsense in any other progressive country of the world.

Typically it happens in Pakistan for kickbacks. The rumor is this airlines bought on luxury jet which is more than the amount the whole PIA was recently sold off for. I let those with intelligence here figure out themselves what really happened under the table here.

I am well aware that we have a corruption problem and across political parties we have this issue of corruption lest we forget our ex PM is in jail for corruption among other charges. That doesn't mean we cannot appreciate a good initiative when we see it.

Your response completely missed the point but its quite clear the agenda behind this thread.

I am not even the thread starter. I have nothing against you and I am more than happy to have a civil discussion. If we have to go down the road of insults like Immy.69, Rishwat and KingKhan then I am not interested.

Thanks but no thanks, been down that road and I know those who support the chor clan and their allies have zero interest in civil and logical discourse.

And yet it is the fans of the corrupt extremist thief rotting in jail that are the first to start personal attacks. I still hope IK gets his due rights in jail though, whatever his crimes he is a human being.

Punjab govt to purchase 108 vehicles for ministers, officers worth Rs1.14bn

The Punjab government plans to purchase 108 new vehicles for provincial ministers and bureaucrats at a cost of Rs1.14 billion.

The decision comes amid criticism of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif over the government’s purchase of a luxury aircraft for her personal use.

According to sources at the Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD), the transport wing has submitted its recommendations to the cabinet for the procurement, which includes 28 new vehicles for the provincial ministers for Rs 30 crore.

The proposed fleet comprises 1 Land Cruiser, 2 Haval H6 1.5T, 5 Altis Grande, 10 Toyota Altis, and 10 Toyota Yaris vehicles.

Additionally, two ministers are set to receive bulletproof 4×4 vehicles worth Rs4 crore. The source said that the government has already approved bulletproof cars.

For VIP security, the government has also approved recommendations to purchase 25 vehicles worth Rs27 crore. Officials said the procurement process will begin once the approvals are finalized.

Earlier, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, criticized the provincial government’s spending priorities.

He noted that while Punjab’s poverty rate has increased by 31 percent, the Chief Minister purchased an aircraft worth Rs11 billion.

Addressing a gathering, Hafiz Naeem alleged that instead of focusing on real development, public money collected through taxes is being spent on advertisements.

“There is no real development in Punjab; advertisements are being run with taxpayers’ money,” he said.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief claimed that poverty has increased the most in Punjab, adding that nearly 10 million children in the province are still out of school.

Punjab releases Rs624m for 5G locators, vehicles for Special Branch

The Punjab Finance Department has released funds to the Special Branch for the purchase of locators and vehicles to strengthen security arrangements for the chief minister.

The Punjab cabinet approved Rs624 million for the acquisition of five 5G locators and vehicles. The provincial cabinet also sanctioned a special supplementary grant for the purpose.

The purchase of the locators and vehicles will be made from the budget for the current financial year 2025-26.

The Special Branch is responsible for monitoring religious, political and social activities. The locators and vehicles will be procured for surveillance of the Punjab chief minister and other key personalities.

An amount of Rs586 million has been allocated for the purchase of 5G locators, while Rs38 million has been earmarked for vehicles. The price of one 5G locator stands at Rs293 million, while one vehicle costs Rs19 million.

After procurement, the vehicles and locators will be handed over to the Punjab Special Branch. The addition of these resources is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the department.

Punjab govt to take legal action against those involved in ‘malicious campaign’ over use of official jet

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Sunday that the provincial government has decided to take legal action against those involved in a “malicious campaign” targeting it over the use of an official jet.

Last month, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz faced severe criticism from the opposition and some journalists regarding the government’s purchase of the aircraft. The Gulfstream 19-seater jet is estimated to be worth between $38 million and $42m (over Rs10bn) and was acquired for the CM’s use.

More recently, there have been claims and speculation on social media about Maryam’s son, Junaid Safdar, using the jet to travel to Europe for his honeymoon.

In a post on X, the senior minister took note of a “deliberate malicious campaign of lies and fabricated stories about the use of the official plane of the Punjab government”, which she said was being run by “known pathological liars and peddlers of fake news”.

The minister shared that the government had decided to take legal action against “every individual and platform” involved under the Defamation Law 2024.

“Disinformation will no longer go unanswered,” she added.

Aurangzeb warned that “those who think they can malign institutions and mislead the public without consequence should prepare to face the law”.

She said that the provincial government will aim to “seek recourse to the maximum penalty under the law to ensure a clear and unequivocal message”.

The minister held that fake news was not “real journalism” but rather defamation. “Pathological lying lunatics will not be tolerated; enough is enough,” she stressed.
