[PICTURES/VIDEOS] "My aim is to play for Pakistan again": Raza Hasan

I still believe that this lad has the potential to be the best left-arm spinner in Pakistan in any format.

If he gets a full season under his belt, he could be back to his best.

He needs to play full first class session this year to back to his best also he is not bad with the bat which is very good.after zafar gohar he is our best left arm spinner

3-14 (8.2) in round one of Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup.

Sent Mickey a reminder about Raza - needs a break and another opportunity.

I just hope he has learnt his lesson.

Struggled on his return, but seems to have made a good start this season.

Btw, what's Mickey's views on Zafar?

Speaking to guys who know this lad from Stoke where he played league cricket. They don’t speak highly of him. I don’t want to spread rumours about someone I don’t know. Just mentioning their views that he likes a drink and a smoke and lacks discipline.

Last year i accidentally went to diamond ground and i saw him there.

The guy looked terrible. He was a proper drug addict with marks on his face.
The last thing Pakistan needs is drug addicts in the squad.

Why did he just fade away after doing so well?

2 year ban for taking a banned substance was reported to be not doing well during this time probably rusty coming back into cricket.
To be selected he'll have to average under 20 with the ball and over 30 with the bat because there are few other spinners in line who are also bowling well showing real bowling all rounder capability in 4 day cricket well help him or any other spinner.

So did our Pakistani superstars of the 90's though, doesn't necessarily mean much even if true.

They still had self discipline or they would have been useless. If alcohol and drugs become a habit rather then the occasional taste, a sportsman is doomed.

The teams of the 90’s were whipped black and blue by Australia and South Africa. Nothing but squandered talent

Anyway - this guy has substance issues. That’s the bottom line. Despite his previous 2 year ban for drugs,it seems that he hasn’t exactly cleaned up his act. I’m sorry if my expectations that Muslim players should not have alcohol issues is outdated but there you go.

Named in the Pakistan A squad for the T20 series against New Zealand A.

Nice consistent bowling by Raza in the national T20 cup 9 wickets at an economy of 5.5 opened the bowling every match but didn't concede 30 or more runs once in the tournament.
Shoaib Malik being part of his team and the sixth team should pick him in the PSL as the extra player.

He isn't picked by any team :o Shockiing!

Yes surprised no PSL team picked him, but sadly his reputation goes before him.

Needs to win people over again and regain their trust.

Excellent suggestion.

He is a very handy batsman if one saw his FC hundred live. He has scored a 50 aswell against strong England Line up playing for Pakistan A.

He has done the difficult job of opening the bowling with the new ball with success.

The thing with Raza Hassan is that he reads the mind of the batsman (The best). 2nd best at reading is Asghar. In terms of skillset at present Zafar Gohar is more skilled but his mind game is inferior to both Raza n Asghar hence once in a while He gets carted.

I believe Raza will be more successful when he bowls after 6 overs and will be the match winner.

Malik should definitely pick him.

Lastly : Raza is a very canny character in the field. He doesn't breach Code of conduct but sometimes he unsettles the batsman with his silly jokes while at other times he challenges them to take him On.

The only thing he seriously needs to improve is his fielding.

Another excellent post.

I have met with Raza and can attest to what you said about his character especially the silly jokes part.

Always liked his stint with Pak team. It was ages ago.

Never knew he is handy with the bat too. Get him in!

Shame....thought this guy will serve Pakistan for long time. He was a clever bowler.

Unfortunately northern already has 2 left arm spinners in Imad Wasim and Nawaz who are both all rounders along wit Shadab as the main spinner. Raza will find it hard to get into Northern first XI. If there would have been a loan system, he could have played for any other first XI if selected.

He should replace Nawaz.

Nawaz and Imad are not wicket taken options in the longer form of the game , it’s a no brainer who I would pick

Such a waste of talent this lad.

Threw away a flourishing career and now needs to make the most of his second chance.

Raza has been promoted to the Northern 1st XI squad after Shadab and Nawaz were called up to the Pakistan squad camp.

Just spotted him on the field. Does he actually want to play for Pakistan again? Looks supremely unfit. As bad as a club bowler.

Left-arm spinner Raza Hasan took eight wickets as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dismissed for 188 against Northern at the NBP Stadium in Karachi on day-two of the tenth-round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2nd XI matches on Thursday.

Why isnt Raza Hasan playing in PSL? He was the leading wicket taker in 2017-2018 quaid e azam trophy.
We could use a back up spin option in case of unavailibilty of shadab/imad. Yasir is there but hes a test specialist, raza can come for limited overs. Why is PCB overlooking him?

Many people I know who follow cricket closesly in Pakistan have marked him as the biggest lost of the 2010s for Pakistan. I have been following his progress in the 2XI T20s and it has not been anything to write home about.

Raza Hasan sent home after Covid-19 protocol breach

Lahore, 30 November 2020:

Raza Hasan of Northern’s Second XI has been sent home following a breach of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Covid-19 protocols. The decision means he will not be allowed to take any further part in the 2020-21 domestic season.

Raza had left the bio-secure premises at a local hotel without seeking a prior clearance from the medical team as well as the PCB’s High Performance department.

PCB Director High Performance, Nadeem Khan: “It is sad and unfortunate that despite several reminders and educational programmes on the significance and importance of respecting and following Covid-19 protocols, Raza Hasan decided to take matters in his hand and overstepped the line. As such, he has been expelled from the tournament and will not be allowed for the remaining season.

“The PCB has a zero-tolerance approach towards Covid-19 breaches as these are designed to not only ensure health and safety of all participants but to also demonstrate to the world that we can successfully organise and deliver domestic competitions.

“I sincerely hope Raza Hasan will use this time to reflect on his irresponsible actions and the potential damage his breach could have caused to the event in general and Pakistan cricket in particular.”

How extremely sad and unfortunate.

I still remember his debut (?) T20I vs Australia in that world cup where they choked so hard, and aimed for that NRR target in order to qualify for the next stages.

So many of our young players are thrown out there and play so well in their first few games, but then just fall down...

The unfortunate side of being a Pakistani cricket supporter!

Another case of stupidity ruining someone's career.

More stupidity from a Pakistan cricketer.

Can't wait to see how our fans will find a way to defend this.

The guy is total idiot.

The guy is total idiot.

One of my friends played with this guy a few years ago in the one of the semi pro leagues, smoking before a game in full view of his team mates and i don't mean cigarettes, spending too much time in the clubhouse afterwards, he has form for being banned for drugs and his attitude is terrible, no matter how much talent he has it is probably worth staying well away, looks like another controversy waiting to happen.

No one will defend him but people are sick of generalising of Pakistanis and everything negative...you are guilty of this as well

I'm not sure he would have been great even without the discipline issues. Something about his 2012 action was demanding on the back and he ended up with a stress fracture. He was no longer the same bowler after that. Gets far too much hype for doing well in 1 World T20 on spin-friendly wickets.

He came on the scene and looked good for a year and even before the ban, he was on the decline. He seems an absolute tool. This should be the last we hear about this idiot.

Attitudes need to change and change fast.

Those who are serious about the sport and willing to work hard should be playing rather than just for money.

This guy has always been known for his unprofessional attitude and has been in and out a fair bit over the last 8-10 years.

Another one bites the dust.. what a shame after U Akmal another potential super player is history now

He was also kicked by LQ for his behavioural problems. There was never anything special about him, but even if he was some Dan Vettori, such behaviour should never be acceptable.

PCB is also at fault here, there should be counseling sessions with players right from the U13 levels up the senior team. Right now, we are seeing HPC coaches giving lectures to domestic players about various aspects & Misbah does the same for National Team but they don't have any qualification to be doing so, there's a dire need of specialists rather than making ex cricketers do everything

I think, there must be some issues with PCB leadership between the years of 2008 to 2015 - either they were too lenient on discipline or overlooked corruption.

I am writing this from an observation - discipline had been a major issue in PAK cricket, but what I see that lots of young cricketers from that era actually got derailed for off the field issues - leaving apart Amir, Asif, Butt, I can name few others who failed to fulfil their potential for attitude problem of some other nonsense - Umar, this guy Hasan, Jamshed, Shehzad, Haris (may not be bad habits, but never was serious for his cricket), Sharjeel......

One credit must go to Misbah that he kept PAK side decent for a long period - he was a safe player, hence instead of trying to fix raw people, he opted to keep them out, but he did brighten the image of PCT. If Imran was like that, some of the greats of PAK cricket won't have lasted more than couple of years - he literally dragged them out of their habits.

What a clown he should not be allowed to play doesmtic cricket again for pakistan

He should not play doesmtic again if they keep giving players chances after chances your going to get the same result

Raza, who was sent back home after the cricket board found him violating COVID-19 SoPs, has realized his mistake and assured PCB not to repeat it again.

“I have realized that it was wrong to violate SoPs as it could hurt other players too. I apologize to the PCB and request them to once again allow me to play Quaid-e-Azam Trophy,” he told media.

28-years-old cricketer, who was representing Northern’s Second XI team, was confident about his performance and said he eyes national team’s comeback through performing in domestic cricket.

“I was in good form and unfortunately I made a mistake and lost a chance to prove my mettle. I request Nadeem Khan to allow me to play this tournament so that I can make my place once again in the national team by performing here,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that Raza had played an ODI and 10 T20Is for Pakistan before getting banned for two years following positive test for a prohibited substance.

Come on Raza.

How many chances do you want.

You almost ended your career a few years ago, you were given yet another chance and now this.

When will these guys learn.

Any recent videos of him bowling, even if it’s in the nets?

Any recent pictures of him? It’s as if he doesn’t exist anymore.

Sad to see such a prospect go to waste, especially when the country isn’t producing top quality spinners.

He needed seniors around him, someone like Ajmal to guide him.

Wonder if the PCB could’ve done more to help him during his rehabilitation, they probably let him deal with his drug addictions on his own.

he got an opportunity to bring his career back on track after many years out, unfort he blew it. one could make an argument about his age when he was initially banned but hes pbly 30 now.

if he cant control himself now, he never will. was talented, but shame he had his demons.. but i wouldnt blame pcb for it.

He probably wouldn’t be in the state he’s in now if the PCB had given him counselling, provided him with a psychiatrist, and kept in contact with him regularly. Knowing the PCB, they probably threw him out into the streets, and left him to fend for himself.

Maybe they just didn’t help him because we already had world class spinners in the team. Maybe if we were in a situation like we are in today with bits and pieces spin bowlers, maybe then they’d have looked after him.
