Naseem Shah among international players registered for SA20 auction

The auction for the upcoming third edition of South Africa’s SA20 is set to take place in Cape Town on October 1, featuring 75 international stars across the globe, including Pakistan’s pace sensation Naseem Shah.

The SA20 2025 will commence on January 9, clashing with Australia’s Big Bash League, UAE’s ILT20 and New Zealand’s Super Smash.

A total of 115 South African players will be participating in the auction alongside international players from 14 different countries.

It’s worth noting that among almost 200 players in the auction, only 13 players will be picked to join six franchise teams.

Other than Naseem Shah, the SA20 auction will feature notable international players like Shamar Joseph, Josh Little, Saqib Mahmood, Qais Ahmad, and Kamindu Mendis.

Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, who is serving as the commissioner of SA20, expressed optimism and enthusiasm for the upcoming edition.

“Some of the biggest names on the international T20 circuit have already signed up for season 3 and I am looking forward to seeing how the teams finalise their squads from this competitive auction list of players,” he stated.

ASPORTS

Naseem Shah has been dropped from the remaining second and third Tests against England, with selectors stating he has been rested.

Rightfully dropped. He needs to improve his fitness and stamina if he wants to play red ball cricket

Hearing reports in the media tht Naseem and Shaheen had themselves asked to be released, this morning from the squad..as they have few niggles….

Not sure, if they did this, because they knew they were being dropped…and eanted to save themselves from the embarrassment..

Whatever it is..it is unpreforssional of them to go and say that we want to be released…

Also..both Naseem and Shaheen should properly work on their fitness…especially Naseem who has become soo overweight…and as a result has lost his accuracy and potency

Very mediocre. But seems better than the others so the drop was harsh. But he's also made of glass

A couple of mighty shots from Naseem Shah against Australia in the 1st ODI - he needs to step up as a proper all-rounder officially

Naseem Shah speaking to media ahead of the 2nd ODI game against Australia in Adelaide:

About His Own Fitness:

"Everything is fine. Cramps can happen to any fast bowler or batter at any time. No matter how fit you are, cramps are something you can't predict. They come suddenly and take some time to recover, around 25-30 minutes. We didn't have that much time, but after a while, I recovered.”

These players are very clever, they know if bowler an bat a bit, his market value in Pyjama leagues increase manifolds therefore the effort

He's not a horse for the long race; he can’t bowl four overs in a row which shows how bad his fitness is. I don’t see him playing the longer formats of cricket for very long.

This guy is a major disappointment when he started he looked very similar to a young dale steyn however he got worse and worse with time another to put in the wasted talent dustbin

Naseem bowled well in the first game. He is attracting too much criticism for nothing. He also bowled well in Bangladesh 1st test but he was rested.

Fitness is his problem which can be solved. He is fine

Naseem is not a smart bowler with right skills & fitness as needed by an international player, that's the reason he never performs completely in any game. He works hard on the field like an unskilled labour for initial 3-4 overs and then he starts getting cramps or looks pretty tired. He gets few random wickets but rarely bowls match winning spell

That was a beauty to remove Fraser. Good to see Naseem finally getting some wickets and there was not another catch dropped. LOl

Champions trophy is coming up and our Pace attack is finding their from back.

Naseem Shah jumped 14 places to be placed at 55 spot in the latest ICC ODI bowler rankings.

Lahore Whites’ Naseem Shah struck to remove Haris towards the end of the day as bad light forced an early close to the day one with 72 overs bowled. His final figures at the end of the day were (2-77) against Peshawar in QAE second triangular round 2024/25
.

His international T20 career, Khatam shud.

Guys like Abass JK should be prioritised

No concept of hard work to sustain success.

I hate cricketers with that sort of attitude, they have no room for improvement at all when they have such garbage mindset

I have no time for such players. He will be history soon.

Too much too soon. Start to believe their own hype. Another wasted talent amongst the many dozens gone before him.

He started off as a 145-148 km/hr pacer. He has already dropped down to 136-138 km/hr in his first spell and in later spells he falls to 130-135 km/hr. That is not good enough for someone in his twenties. He needs to get his fitness much better. Maybe firing Cliffe Deacon the conman will be a good starting point

He is around 27-28. The decline started without ever reaching any peak.

27-28 is a peak age for a fast bowler. This is the age when your muscle strength is at its peak and you should be at your fastest. Pacers begin to decline once they reach 30 onwards.

Agreed but he is on the decline. Some injuries are out of your control but being overweight and issues associated with that are unforgivable

I have more respect for a player like Wahab Riaz who maintained decent fitness even in his 30s.

Our players act like a diva, and expect to be among the best. Someone needs to show them the mirror of not having even 5% work rate of Bumrah or Starc yet they expect miracles

Naseem's pace has declined a big time. from 140+ bowler to 130-135. Fitness is something he needs to work on.

Yeah, he is certainly not 21 year old. He is probably in mid 20s or even late twenties. The problem with this kind of age cheating is that everyone expects a genuine 21 year old to be learning and improving where as 26/27 year old has already completed his learning and now should be producing world class results. Naseem, Shaheen all seem to be few years older and seem to be stagnanting in learning just like what most average players do at their real age

Calling him 27-28 without any proof is certainly stupid due to wrists tests and all at age group level you can maximum get away 2-3 years not 6-7 as some are suggesting

However age is not the issue here even if he mid 20’s he should at his best now not somebody who is getting worse and worse clear case of a player who refuses to do the hard yards

Overaged, short and never that good to begin with. Also very fragile and gets injured very easily.

He shouldn't be playing all 3 formats with that profile.

Naseem Shah removes Temba Bavuma for Pakistan in the 2nd ODI against South Africa. How many more scalps would he claim today?

Naseem bowled brilliantly last night. Shaheen was going for runs upfront but his control from the other end ensured South Africa couldn't run away with a flying start. Need more of this from him.

Ends up with 2 scalps and I have to say that he bowled pretty well. Bavuma likes Pakistan so it was an important wicket and then he removed klaasen as well...

Good to see him getting his rhythm back.

No intensity whatsoever today from Naseem. Seemed to be going through the motions as if he had the old ball on a flat pitch with opposition at 300-4, not a newish ball on a spicy Centurion track.

Harmless back of a length fare. With Abbas bowling poorly, you expected one of your experienced seamers to step up. Instead it was Khurram, 3 Tests old, looking the leader of the attack !

The dropping was too short. Even Obaid would have shown more passion.

Naseems body language is very looserish. No fire but junk in his belly.

He's injury prone should be kept away from tests. We should prepare a seperate pool of fast bowlers for tests anyways

He has no desire to play test cricket and is probably wishing he gets the same luxury as Shaheen and Haris to pick and choose his formats but unfortunately for him he’s not from a qalanders gang so Aqib expects him to out the yards in tests to secure his white ball selection

How well has this guy bowled today.. He looked a completely different bowler than he was yesterday.

3 wickets for him so far and he is bowling quicker as well.

He is a good bowler. Not quite good enough yet to be leader of the pack which is what is demanded of him but he is decent.

Naseem Shah (3/92) in 22 overs made efforts with the ball to restrict the South Africa from extending their lead further on Day 2 of the First Test.

That was a nasty delivery from Naseem Shah. Probably Kagiso Rabada was not following the delivery.

Scenes from Day 4 of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan.

Naseem is another bottle under pressure. He has lost us many high profile pressure matches under pressure. Bhumrah debuted in 2018 in test cricket and already has 200 test wickets and Naseem Shah still sprays the ball around. When was the last time he won a man of the match award on the basis of his bowling alone.

Hopefully the last game of his test career. Absolute rubbish. He and Shaheen cost us a series win in England too with their pathetic bowling.

Again .. can't blame the player for everything. He should have had taken FC cricket more serious instead of playing T20 leagues around the globe improving his match fitness in the format.

But that being said .. who the hell forced them to select a T20 specialist in this format? Don't they know that he hasn't played much FC since his return from injury? What is this management doing?

No reward for domestic top performers?

Puts himself ahead of the team by sneaking in a half volley as his glory ball instead of sticking to a plan and proper length.
He is done for in Tests and genuinely dissapointed with him because he came in with a beautiful outswinger and pace around 145-146 kph. What a dissapointment.

Not worth the investment anymore in tests. I am sure Hamza would have done much better on this surface

He needs to work on his fitness .very bad fitness standards for a youngesta beauty

Naseem's test bowling average is pathetic. I don't remember if he has destroyed top order or middle order in any of his 33 test innings. He works hard but doesn't have smart skills to take wickets

This guy had a tiff with the PCB management because they were not offering him a category A contract

Haven't been watching any of this test match apart from a few bowling highlights, but once your seam bowlers have wrecked the opposition and you are left with two tailenders at the wicket with almost 50 runs still to get, would you not expect your premier fast bowler to clean them up? What was Naseem doing?
