[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Naseem Shah's performance watch post injury

I have been saying this for years. He is extremely overrated. An average bowler who lives off his reputation and image and not actual performances.

He has never done anything with the ball and his Test and T20 records are embarrassing. He is a fan favorite because some people find him good looking and he shows “passion” when Pakistan loses. Not to forget the couple of match winning batting cameos vs Afghanistan.

He is an OK support bowler but not the world beater he is hyped to be. Also, it is very unfair on Shaheen if he is compared to him.

Shaheen has not lived up to his potential in the last couple of years but he has produced far more in his career so far and he has won way more matches with the ball.

His spell vs India in the 2021 World Cup is bigger than Naseem’s entire career so far.

I always thought he had lots of potential to be a very good bowler but I am disheartened by his poor fitness levels. The guy should be in peak condition but looks pudgy. He has started to look at little better but nowhere what he should be.

How many FC games has he played since return from injury? That says everything about how serious he is. Who on earth told these guys that they will gain test match fitness by playing 15 T20 games in a year? It's a different format requiring a different skill set.

The worst part is our selectors keep rewarding T20 league performances with a Test call up. It's pathetic!

Result? Naseem keeps leaking runs in every spell for one wicket in the whole innings.

I don't think he has the test match temperament, fitness to be a successful test bowler. They should look for specialists. He may occasionally pick up a few wickets. Also his natural length won't work in most places.

The problem is we will never know as they don't have time to play FC cricket for a full season.

These PSL superstars are too busy shooting ads and playing T20 leagues all over. Who cares when money is this easy, eh?

Has not played enough first class games, too many nonsense t20 games. Needs to learn the art of bowling long spells a guy in his late 30s is much fitter than a supposedly 21 year old youngsta!

He has really let himself go in terms of fitness. Typical for most Pakistani young players who acquire fame and money at an early age.

He is already set for life thanks to his PSL and franchise contracts and endorsements, and that shows in his commitment towards fitness. I bet he has the same diet plan as any regular person of his age.

True and he probably is in 25-30 year range which also kills the potential argument

Pakistan should have retained Shaheen for SA tests specially after clearly seeing his pace and intensity was up in ODIS

Naseem Shah has moved up six places to 33rd in the bowling rankings due to his performance in Centurion.

I don't think he did that well in that game.

Its sad because i thought he was starting to realise his potential pre injury. Hitting nice lengths and getting good zip. Especially on some flat wickets at home. The nz odi series.
Post injury the zip is missing and has lost about 4-5 further kilometres along with struggling to land two balls in a spot.

If there is a bowler that needs a full season or two of county cricket it’s him also Khurram I hope this year with very little cricket in summers these two can get county gigs

He looks overweight and doesnt look like hes interested in playing tests.

I think Naseem has some more interest then Shaheen to play and do well in test cricket he played the 4 day game before the tour to confirm his avilability unlike Shaheen and Babar who didn’t bother turning up and was genuinely annoyed that he was dropped for 2nd test vs BD when the pitch was more helpful for pacers as I alluded earlier Naseem needs a season or two in county cricket and he can be test cricket ready

I don't really buy the fitness argument as a reason for his decline, mainly because I don't believe he has been a success to begin with. All he ever did was show promise, and look like a movie star. I don't think he has had even one year where he has taken the cricket world by storm by winning matches or tournaments.

He has mostly been all hype and delivered very little to justify it.

Yes, he has never performed. It was all about his perception and the faith believe had or have in his talent which never materialized on the pitch. However, if you compare his fitness today to 2020-2022, there is a noticeable difference.

That is to be expected by Pakistan players to be honest. Sport is still played with an amateur mindset in Pakistan, cricket is one of those where you can get away with not being a prime athlete. If Naseem was a pro footballer he would never last in the top leagues. He would be like Ronaldo or Messi, moving into lucrative developing nations where the standards are not so high and you can get by at 60%.

Pakistan doesn’t have many good pace bowling options in test cricket unfortunately.
Naseem has to work hard and succeed at all costs and PCB must closely monitor him

Naseem Shah is struggling with fitness and consistency. Lacking running and exercises for fat burning and coupled with poor eating habits.

He might be relying on a diet similar to Shinwari type food. Otherwise he could have been a bowler capable of maintaining consistency like Mark Wood. Unfortunately, it’s likely that Naseem will be unfit to play Test cricket after two years.

When is the last time Naseem put in a match winning performance for Pakistan in tests? I can't remember.

He lacks fitness and stamina for a test match fast bowler but as Rambo said we lack sell able assets and he is a pretty boy!

Most expensive ODI bowling of his career today....

Needs the hard yards of FC matches. Lose weight and get fit to get the zip back. He has become an 83 mph bowier with no bounce

He is unfit/overweight. Prime example of the downfall (Pak cricket). Forget red ball cricket, but at least he could have become a very good white ball bowler - bowling 88mph plus. As we all know they are lazy and can only play T20 (league's). Its pathetic to see him trundling in bowling 80mph pies!

These Shaheen and Naseem needs to realise playing red ball will not make them less effective infact at their age 22-30 the more overs you have under your belt the better they get both mentally and skills wise

Naseem Shah played a useful knock of 19 off 17 in the final of the Tri-Nation ODI series against New Zealand

Naseem Shah breathing fire for Pakistan in the final of Tri-Nation ODI series against New Zealand. His figures so far 2/24 in 5 overs.

Naseem Shah lookalike takes internet by storm

A video featuring a person resembling Pakistan’s fast bowler Naseem Shah has gone viral on Instagram, sparking nostalgia among fans.

The video shows a man, strikingly similar to Naseem Shah, expressing his frustration over the controversial Indian YouTube show India’s Got Latent.

While the individual’s opinions on the show have caught attention, it is his uncanny resemblance to Naseem Shah that has drawn the most focus from viewers.

In the viral video, the man criticizes the excessive attention given to shows like India’s Got Latent while important issues such as inflation, pollution, and unemployment are sidelined.

Despite his serious remarks, social media users couldn't help but comment on his striking similarity to Naseem Shah.

One user remarked, “This looks exactly like Naseem Shah’s brother,” while another expressed confusion, asking, “Is this Naseem Shah or someone else?”

He indeed looks like Naseem. I got fooled.

His overall performances have dipped and he looks fat.

What is weird is that we can all see he is a bit pudgy but he can't, and nor can the management. He could safely lose pudginess within 4 weeks by running and improving his diet. I think it was @Mamoon that said that he is most likely eating what we eat. Many years ago an England Rugby player- Neil Back was asked when he last had a burger, he replied, never.

Naseem the pick of the pacers so far against New Zealand in Match 1 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan’s Naseem Shah added another feather to his cap as he took his 50th ODI wicket during the opening match of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 here at the National Bank Stadium on Wednesday.

The right-arm pacer achieved the milestone during the 38th over of New Zealand’s innings when he got Will Young caught at deep square leg.

As a result, Naseem became the joint-fastest Pakistani bowler to take 50 ODI wickets, drawing level with Hasan Ali, who had also conceded 24 innings.

The 22-year-old also became the joint fifth-fastest bowler overall to achieve the landmark, joining the likes of Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis, Australia’s Dennis Lillee and India’s Ajit Agarkar.

I still like his attitude but his skill isn't there. He should not be playing for Pak in any format anymore. Akif should replace him & that's about it.

The only thing he had going for him was express pace but he has gone from being a 145+ regular to hitting 150 every now & then to a 135 with an occasional 140 delivery every now & then. He has some batting potential, maybe he can start batting at 6 in some domestic team & come back as an all rounder in a few years time once his batting is better.

Akif & Wasim Jr should take the second bowler place while one from Abbas Afridi & Jahandad Khan should take up the 3rd spot.

he has become a tundler right after his injury.. its time to kick him out and try Akif Javed

Yes he’s out of form, but I just don’t think it’s fair on the bowlers who bowl on dead pitches in the UAE and Pakistan and then get dropped when travelling to SENA.

Imagine playing Rizwan and Babar against Bumrah, Starc and Henry, then dropping them against Muzarabani, Jha and Ramanandi.

Naseem's averages in SENA

Tests - 58
ODIs - 30
T20s - 47

Next excuse please.

He’s played 7 test matches in SENA, that’s not enough to judge a player, you know that.
His ODI average isn’t bad, it’s not world class either.

13 T20’s in ENA, hasn’t play in SA. Struggled in Australia, but has only played 4 in the other 2 countries.
Like I said, it’s unfair to judge a bowler that bowls mostly in conditions where there’s nothing in it for the pacers.

He has bowled on different SENA pitches and has been ineffective everywhere. He averages 35 overall in tests which is among the worst in the world. He has played 20 tests in total and 75 in all formats which is enough to judge a player

He has been consistently poor home or away, year after year.

Could not do much with the ball but he surely has improved his batting... Came in as a concussion sub for Haris rauf in the 2nd ODI and now he is nearing a 50...

50 up for Naseem.... career best and maiden ODI 50 for him... What a knock it has been... no pressure on him

4 sixes in his inning.

Any analyst made an interesting observation that Naseem only bowls outswingers with the new ball, he used to have the ability to swing the ball in late with the new ball but off late he has been predominantly focusing on outswingers and that has made him very predictable and one dimensional against quality batters.

This is true... he is only trying to swing the ball away and he has been predictable just like Shaheen is with his fuller length stuff.

Naseem really needs to develop that inswinger otherwise his seam position is fine to go with that extra variation.

Naseem did have an inswinger to the right hander, he bowled KL Rahul and Mendis with the inswinger in the 2022 Asia T20 Cup. The first ball he bowled to Kohli, he surprised him with a late inswinger which was close to the offstump and the next ball he bowled a full late outswinger which Kohli chased, edged and got dropped in the slips.

God knows why the skill levels of our bowlers deteriorate when players from other countries just get better and better with experience and exposure. This clearly indicates a work ethic problem.

Just like you said - work ethic problem.
Pak players are lazy and have no desire to improve. Major part of this is the culture in the dressing room, when senior players are happy and content with useless 50s, they take the rest with them.

Pathetic team culture.

Getting carted around by batsmen in PSL too now. Was easily the worst bowler in the match.

Averages nearly 30 in the PSL too, where quality of batting is not that great. This is along with his 35 average in T20 international.

All the fake hype created around this dude for so many years is coming crashing down.
