[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Noman Ali - Left-arm spinner

What will it take for him to make it to Pakistan's Test side.

We need a proper finger spinner in the test team. He is ok, action is a little round arm, those actions don't turn the ball much but of what I have seen of him, he is the best on the domestic circuit.

The videos in this thread do not seem to suggest he has much turn, drift or flight.

Admittedly not the best of angles and footage is grainy but I was hoping to see him deceiving batsmen playing in a slightly more circumspect manner.

The shots most batsmen played to get out should be not be tolerable at any level.

Having said that the problem with a wickets package highlight reel is that it does not show how pressure was built. Forced to give him the benefit of the doubt in the hope that his good deliveries made batsmen engage in these brain fades.

I heard one of the commentators say he has a decent arm ball

I was looking for spin away from the right handers and with that action its going to be difficult. The arm ball is a variation but its the bread and butter that takes wickets. Lets hope there is more to come

Would Pakistan have won had they picked Nauman Ali in the XI?

It was a tight contest and in matches like this, small contributions from every player matter.

Yasir Shah failed both with bat and ball. Nauman Ali has been a revelation for Pakistan since his debut. What was the need to drop him even after the domestic veteran had been terrific in the matches he had featured in?

Maiden first-class century for Northern's captain Nauman Ali today.

Lahore, 23 October 2021: Northern captain Nauman Ali scored his maiden first-class century on the fourth and final day of the round one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-22 against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the match, played at the Gaddafi Stadium, ended in a draw.

Nauman needed 15 runs when play resumed on Saturday. He made 103 off 112 balls – hitting 12 fours and two sixes – and became the third batter in the innings to reach triple digits after youngsters Faizan Riaz and Mubasir Khan had stroked centuries on day three.

Nauman surpassed his previous career-best of 97 that he had recorded in a Test against Zimbabwe at Harare earlier in the year.

Noman Ali registers the 27th five-wicket haul of his first-class career.

Noman Ali will be the only experienced spinner for Pakistan during the Australia tour 2023-24. Particularly against Australia, he has taken 9 wickets in 3 test matches at an economy rate of 3.13.

With Abrar looking iffy due to injury, all eyes Nauman Ali!

They really should have selected a younger left arm spinner to give him some experience of Australians conditions expect Nauman to bowl a 0-100 spell of 27 overs here.

His straight balls with lack of turn will be easily worked around by Australia’s main batsmen.

Maybe back in the day he was decent but the version we have seen in the last 3 years is awful although statistically he has been average. Irfan Bhatti is a better bowler than him and turns the ball more( not much better but a little better), Asghar needed to have played in the last 3 years, although he lacks control but sometimes they come alive in the limelight and the talent starts to shine

Since Abrar is most likely out for the first Test and potentially the series, I hope Noman can at least keep the run rate down. These pitches are not very forgiving for spinners.

Abrar was the only mystery Pakistan had to trouble some Aussie batters but now he is out I guess. Noman has nothing special to offer on those pitches. Hopefully, he can do something but no high hope from him really/

Who decided to pick 37-year-old Noman Ali in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024? He went wicketless, conceding 76 runs in 9 overs against Panthers. How is he playing over Sufyan Muqeem and bowlers like Aarish Ali Khan? Surely, the whole point of this tournament is to promote upcoming talent?

Left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who has taken 47 wickets in 15 Tests, has replaced fast bowler Khurram Shahzad, who is injured

Well. Noman is handy with the bat but at real age in excess of 45 can he survive 140 plus short pitch stuff from tall English pacers even on Pakistan slow pitches ?

Moreover he requires an under prepared wicket to spin and perform adequately with the ball and if we do prepare such wickets than even English spinners will eat our batters alive.

On flat surfaces Noman will not be a wicket taking option (very old fingers won't allow him to spin the ball as he would lack revs) and and I am afraid BazBall approach will mean Noman would be a good hit me option for English batsman.

Some decisions of ours are so backward.

Not sure where PCB's future-future etc program went. PCB took a 180-degree turn and decided to move in the backward direction otherwise Noman would have not been here.

47 wickets in 15 Tests
Four five-wicket hauls with best figures of 7-70
Highest Test score of 97

Happy birthday to left-arm spinner Noman Ali

really dont understand why Abrar getting priority over Noman... abrar cant spin a ball much neither he can survive 5 deliveries while batting and for fielding everyone knows how pathetic he is so whats the point keeping him in the playing 11.... why not noman khan who is decent batter and a very good spinner who can take wickets.

Noman Ali could trouble English batters here with his ability to generate sharp turn and bounce with his arm ball and topspin variations.

He would have been better than abrar, but that isn't a big achievement

He shouldn't be selected for the 11 and same for Abrar

Noman Ali strikes and the big fish is gone. England Captain Ben Stokes becomes victim of Noman Ali as Pakistan staging a remarkable comeback in the 2nd Test. Noman's figures so far 2/71.

Noman has taken his 50th Test wicket today as he removed Jamie Smith.

Good bowling from him and well supported Sajid Khan.

Noman gets his fifth of the inning as he fools Stokes and inflicts a stump out.

Brilliant stuff from Noman.

Another player from Sindh who had been robbed for years. If given the same backing as someone from KP like Yasir or Nawaz, Nouman could have been our Herath.

Their is still time however for him to contribute to PCT and hopefully represent his province with pride

Bowled a brilliant middle and offline all 2nd inns which England were clueless against. Discapline will always get you wickets

Best S/R among all left-arm test spinners for Pakistan.
Two more wickets and he will be the 3rd highest wicket-takers among all time Pakistani left-arm test spinners.

This guy is a helluva cricketer.. it’s a shame there are so many others like him with the heart and desire to play for their country who aren’t getting a chance.

Stock ball that turns, arm ball, drop, flight, clever variations of pace and a damn good batsman.

Uncle Noman at age 40+ putting our young spinners to shame.

Hopefully he and Sajid can bundle England out fairly cheaply tomorrow.

Another fifer for Noman as he got the wicket of Joe Root.

What a series he is having along side Sajid Khan.

Noman Ali has been one of the best-performing left-arm spinner in the last couple of years.

Has he been underutilized by Pakistan, considering before this series he last played a Test in 2023 July?

Wow what a tremendous effort. I don’t mind how old he is or how much longer he has left of his cricketing career. Right now he’s one of the best left arm spinners in the world and not a mug with the bat either. With his loop and guile I think he will be a handful on any wicket. Can wait to see what him and Saj will be like in South Africa.

This guy has now achieved a career-high ranking, jumping eight places to 9th position in the latest ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings after taking nine wickets in the Rawalpindi Test against England.

Hard work is paying off for the experienced elderly spinner.

Noman Ali (Pakistan) nominated for ICC player of the month

The 38-year-old stepped up big for Pakistan against England, racking up a combined 20 wickets at 13.85 in the second and third Test to help the home side produce a stellar comeback and take the series.

Noman Ali produced two game-changing spells, ending with match figures of 11/147 and 9/130 as Pakistan overturned their defeat in the first Test to end their three-year drought for a Test series win at home.
