Perhaps we can state that the National Stadium in Karachi is Pakistan cricket team's spiritual home, for many great memories are associated with the ground. It is here where Pakistan won its first Test match on home soil in 1955. It is the venue where Imran Khan famously got to 200 wickets in a breathtaking spell of reverse swing bowling against India where he finished with 8-60. No ground in Pakistan assists the bowlers with reverse swing as much as the National Stadium. It is of course Karachi that witnessed one of Pakistan's most cherished Test victories against Australia in 1994 by the slimmest of margins. Equally dramatic, if less fondly remembered by home fans, was Pakistan's final day capitulation against England which brought to an end its unbeaten Test record at the venue. It was the site, too, of a magnificent one day match against India, which whilst Pakistan narrowly lost featured a remarkable innings by Inzamam. It was the place too that Pakistan fought back from being 39-6 against India to claim one of the best comeback victories in its history.

To see high-profile cricket at the venue again is therefore a source for celebration in itself.

They spent 1 billion rupees on this renovation, and 2 years almost. In 2 years a new stadium can be built and they couldn't even finish the renovation work.

Honestly, feel like they could have made it better. They need to add lights to the stands, one can hardly see the spectators on TV.

Also, need to remove those fences that make it look like people are watching the game in a prison. This is completely inhumane. I understand our awam can at times go nuts, but if they set stringent rules, over time I'm sure they will learn. The image of those fences with barbwire on them isn't what Pakistan needs to be showing to the world.

Stadium wasn't quite jam-packed today but that's probably because the tickets were sold just a few days ago. Expecting a full house for most of the other matches.

^yea that's very strange because my friends are selling tickets in black with up to 5x price for almost every match.

Some people were selling black-market tickets today at the market rate :)) I don't think the demand was that high. Not surprising because of the last minute nature of this fixture.

Looks fabulous, makes me remember great times from the past. This was a fort for Pakistan Test Cricket, and I wish soon it will be again

Turnout is relatively lower so far today but still quite a few people in the stands... remember this is another game that was shifted here on short notice.

Evening game should have a better turnout. But double-header on Monday wasn't a good idea I think.

There are 8 games in karachi, if there were more stadiums this would not have been the case.
Surprised how many have showed up for a dead rubber nevertheless.

I am not sure if it is wise to allow Franchise Owners to be anywhere near the team dressing room and dug out. Didn't they disallow this in the IPL? I believe it was a step taken to reduce the opportunity for match fixing and spot fixing. Besides having an owner present in the team dug out and dressing room can put extra pressure on the team players and team management.

Amazing atmosphere in Karachi. If this is not an Indictation on safety on Pakistan for teams then what is? Someone like month Rhodes walking the streets of Karachi and bike riding can give you a picture. India has failed on isolating Pakistan in cricket.
