[PICTURES/VIDEOS] PSL should go head-to-head with IPL

This is something i have observed so much here in US. I have couple of Pakistani families in our neighborhood WhatsApp group and i know them pretty well. When we all come together for neighborhood meetups, we see most Indians talking about business ventures, investing here, investing there, taking risk and stuff like that. But when i talk to Pakistani friends, most are happy investing in real-estate, very few wants to invest in Pak. Mind you a lot of Indians are also crazy about real estate and invest both here and in India, but a much larger portion compared to Pakistanis wants to go entrepreneurship route, even if it means it ruins them.

Indians are definitely more risk taking. They don't mind spending money to get long term returns and actually working hard for those returns. Pakistani's in comparison are much more stingy and want a complete guarantee to get returns before even putting money on the table and don't want to put in the work.

Its the same story with the vast majority of the PSL Franchise owners. Replace them with Foreign Franchise owners and you will see the difference.

IPL Franchise owners taking over the franchises of all the leagues world wide will be a game changer for these franchises.

Another reason why this is good news for PSL is that guys who were playing both used to sandbag in the PSL in order to give their best in IPL

Andre Russell in 2019 comes to mind. Was absolutely trundling in PSL to preserve himself for IPL where he went all out.

West Indian legend Sir Viv Richards, speaking during an interview:

“There’s no doubt the IPL is the biggest. I’ve spent most of my time in the PSL, but I recognise that the IPL is number one right now. There are so many leagues, and many Pakistani players take part in them too. But the IPL has set a benchmark — featuring top international stars alongside exciting local talent to produce consistently high-quality cricket.”

Honest opionion given by the legendary cricketer.

Was it worth using the IPL window or not. For me 2 things that stand out- generally the better quality of Overseas players and just as importantly the better weather produced better wickets, which generally led to more entertainment and higher scores. So guys yay or nay

The hot weather in May definitely had a negative impact on the crowd. Generally the weather i.e. heat/humidity in Pakistan in May makes it very tough to even venture outside. This is something the PCB will not have a solution for which is why it is worth exploring a October-November window in Pakistan for the PSL when the weather in Pakistan is better.

You maybe right but the overall impact of the change has been positive.

It works nicely for us also.

If some foreign players get injured during IPL, we can always bring players from PSL who are generally most happy and relieved to be leaving Pakistan to play in India rather.

Its a Win-Win for both of us. Nobody is a Learn.

As per reports PSL 11 is also likely to clash with the IPL next year, taking place in April-May. As a result, Pakistan's home series against Zimbabwe may need to be rescheduled. Given the tight calendar, the idea of holding the tournament this December appears difficult to execute.

Traditionally, the Pakistan Super League is held in February-March, but this year it was shifted to April-May due to Pakistan hosting the ICC Champions Trophy, leading to an overlap with the IPL. With the ICC T20 World Cup set for February-March next year, the PCB is once again facing scheduling challenges.

A proposal to stage the PSL in December-January was discussed, but unresolved logistical issues make an early tournament unlikely. Instead, the PCB is considering organizing the domestic Pentangular Cup during that window, featuring top national players.

As i feared, i read online that the BCB is considering copying PCB's strategy and wants to host the BPL in April May 2026 to pouch the unsold IPL players and are citing the elections in Bangladesh in December as the reason why they cannot hold the BPL in the regular slot

It would be great if all leagues can be held in that window.. all players can play where they want

Major setback for PSL

Franchises in IPL Auction bought the best possible talents around the world, which means only few left for PSL to buy which went unsold today .

Or karwao IPL ke sath , 2-4 year m PSL end ho jayegaa 🤣🤣🤣

:klopp :kp

Few left are England players who won't get NOC regardless plus injury prones players like coeetze and Conway.......... PSL need to scout Australia and SA domestic structure to fill 8 teams....

It's their money so They can buy whoever the want's.

I don't think Smith is great T20 player but yea anything can happen before the IPL

He can be picked as some injury replacement who knows ?

Oh, I forgot that there will be 8 teams in the PSL this year, and they will select more than 40 good international players from them. From where they will select these players?

Australia's domestic players, srilanka leftover kachra, shakib ul hasan, moeen ali, lizaad Williams, sipamla, baartman etc

PSL is the first league jiska team squad IPL ka auction decide karta hai .😂 :klopp :kp

This is exactly as per expectation and this is what the PCB settled for. To co-exist and be a subsidiary feeder league to the IPL and to take advantage of the April May no international calender window and to maximize whatever is possible with IPL rejects, left overs. A lot of good players go unpicked in the IPL hence why they will add value to the PSL.

Can you name some good players? Last year was still decent...now all kachra players are coming

The overseas players dont make the PSL. The brand is built around PK players such Babar, SSA etc. We need good wickets and good weather. The IPL has lots of money but the cricket is pretty average. Both leagues have a big domestic followings and neither is watched by anyone but by PKs and Inds outside the SC.

How they gonna fill out 8 teams?

According to reports NO ENGLAND TOP PLAYER IN PSL 11

Players like ,Ben Stokes Harry Brook Mark Wood, Jamie Smith, Saqib Mahmood Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, and others will not be available for PSL 11 due to ECB’s red-ball central contracts

Jason Roy? Samit Patel? Ian Bell?

Despite claims in some quarters that the Pakistan Super League has become a “retired league,” recent developments suggest a more complex picture after 11 overseas players who featured in PSL 10 were picked up by Indian Premier League franchises.

The list includes Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Matthew Short, Luke Wood, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Ben Dwarshuis, Mitchell Owen and Jordan Cox, highlighting the continued overlap between global T20 leagues and the competitive pull of the IPL’s financial and exposure advantages.

You are right.

You changed my thinking on this point too by making these points in the past.

Domestic base needs to be solid first. Overseas is just the cherry on top.

We need a proper system to develop and nurture talent. This will feed into PSL and the national team. We can't compete with the IPL money but we can create a competitive league based around our own players and some decent overseas players to give it some flavour

But we will see same chachos and uncles playing in league....

Its not for the league purpose. Its for the betterment of our own players. If our players are the best then we don't need much from outside .But that case is not valid for pak. They need good foreign players to show the youngsters a way to succeed or perform much better than current lot. Hayden and Symo changed the styles of Raina, Rohit from sweat timers to power hitters. We dont need our national players who are mediocre themselves. We need good players for the players future. If the players are good , league will sustain automatically. Imagine a psl with 90's pak team, then not much foreign import is required.

We have to be realistic though, we aren't going to attract the biggest names they will go to iPL.

For betterment of our own players these players being described as retirees like faf, moeen, warner can be very helpful still.

And we can ensure the betterment of our players by letting them play more overseas leagues. Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah bth made some improvements playing CPL for example.

But there is no point sitting and wanting the big namesand crying if they go to IPL, it won't happen, so we need to make the best with what we have.

I dont want to compare with ipl atleast for pak players. Psl and pcb have to target pak player's improvement as priority. It should be a measurable result than an imaginary number.Since psl is the least commercially attractive option, i will like players to improve the quality and league as a result.

Many good players like finn allen, seifert etc are now gonna play IPL... PSL is left with nothing much... PCB really needs to work on its strategy now
