Not many solid batsmen in the squad. Potentially 8 or 9 ARs out of initial 16 men squad.

Well if Sarfaraz can manage the duo here then I wouldn’t bet that it would be a long time til both of them are back soon together for Pakistan

Quetta and Karachi both did very good retentions and picked a very good squad today as well.

Man they actually look... kinda strong this time around, no lie. Makes me even angrier as a KK fan as QG has chosen random hacks in both editions but have curbed the trend and have made a pretty decent squad while we've gotten worse.

Russow, Watson, Saud are proper t20 guys and Narine is the perfect t20 player.

Squad filled with All rounders, but pretty good still.

Team:

Shane Watson
Sunil Narine
Rilee Rossouw
Saud Shakeel
Umar Akmal
Sarfraz Ahmed
Dwayne Bravo
Mohammed Nawaz
Sohail Tanvir
Mohammed Asghar
Ghulam Muddaser

They have got best spin department among all teams and that's all a team needs on the pitches PSL is played

fawad ahmed is a trash pick and there are better leggies in Pak to pick from.

Overall, very strong squad.

1. Watson
2. Saud
3. Akmal
4. Sarfraz
5. Rilee
6. Bravo
7. Anwar/Tanvir
8. Narine
9. Nawaz
10. Asghar
11. Naseem Shah

Saud plays anchor from the top and everyone else bats around him, plus very deep batting line up and have the pacemen for the conditions.

Top 3 needs to fire for Quetta to succeed. Lower order is a bit weak. Bowling is strong. My XI will be:

1. Shane Watson
2. Sunil Narine
3. Rilee Rossouw
4. Saud Shakeel
5. Umar Akmal
6. Sarfaraz Ahmed
7. Dwayne Bravo
8. Sohail Tanveer
9. Mohammad Nawaz
10. Naseem Shah
11. Fawad Ahmed

Wow.

Ahsan Ali
Ahmed Shehzad
Watson
Rille Rossow
Sarfraz
Nawaz
Narine
Tanvir
Naseem
Asghar
Fawad

Pretty solid team

Lol Umar Akmal and Shehzad in same team. Bowling is even weaker than last season

If this was PSL 1 this squad would have looked hella strong. But now a lot of the players like Umar Akmal, Tanvir, Shehzad, Nawaz, perhaps even Sarfraz himself all have dropped in worth of late.

Still looks pretty decent, and less questionable selections than before. Think Sarfraz will take this team far like he usually does.

Potential for plenty of fighting spirit..........amongst themelves.

Bowling looks good, but I worry about the batting.

5 Foreigners?

To be honest their batting at the top looks weak. Not sure what kind of form Watson is in since he hasnt played any professional cricket since May (albiet he did score a century in a final in his last game). Also since Watson wont come to Pakistan, it might be Shahzad in most games. Which means Rossouw has to carry the line up and not sure if he good enough. See them alongside Karachi as the team that doesnt make it to the playoff.

Dissapointed on not picking Zeeshan. They should have picked Zeeshan as Nabeel Hashmi knows local cricketers well.

And lol at Azam Khan. Sarfraz showing he is a weak character when it comes to standing up to seniors/coaches etc.

Ahsan Ali is a bright spot though.

Naseem Shah :wy:wy:wy

Can't wait to watch him bowl Inshallah.

Otherwise a very very strong team I put them as favourites for the PSL.

HUGE BOOST! This is great that Sunil Narine and DJ Bravo are coming to Pakistan

Watson
Narine
Rousseau
Akmal
Saud
Sarfraz
Bravo
Nawaz
Anwar Ali
Tanvir
Asghar

4 pacers. 3 quality spinners. A deep batting line up which is something that Quetta have traditionally lacked. For once they also have a genuine death bowler in Bravo.

If the top order clicks then Quetta will be very dangerous. Also I've picked Anwar Ali purely for his hitting ability. He is the 7th choice bowler in this line up.

No real planning at all. Nabeel is definitely the worst of all the assistants in PSL. Some more talented players are gonna warm the bench the whole season.

Saud Shakeel being in Silver category might mean that he will remain on the bench. Had he been in emerging, he may have had a chance to play considering one emerging has to play.

Also this Ghulam Mudasser guy has been in emerging category for four seasons now first for LQ and now QG, either he progresses to the next level or should be dropped. Holding up a spot for another youngster. Both QG emerging picks are pacers, which means the team already have an idea of who will bat in the top 6-7 and they didn't want to mess around with the combo by having a batsman in emerging category who they were forced to play.

Also my eyes might be playing tricks on me but I don't see "friend" Shafiq there... what happened to the friendship mantra so popular on PP :sarf2

Ghulam Mudassar can be in the emerging category for another 3 seasons as he's just 19, officially :srt

Also, they have a third emerging player - Azam Khan.

He was dreadful for 3 years. So he did play due to being Sarfraz's best friend. Anwar Ali is still there. Plus his friend Ramiz raja jnr, played ahead of Saud Shakeel. Wonder how you will defend this.

My only interest here is to where/how sarfaraz bats in this team

I'll probably get a lot of flak for this but I really want Umar to have an outstanding PSL. So much so that he forces his way into the WC squad. We do need a someone who can strike big and Asif has not lived up to the expectations. Surely, Umar Akmal can do better than Asif Ali.

Quetta Gladiators with an easy win vs Multan Sultans in last night's practice game

Umar Akmal 49 with 7 fours, 1 six
Ahmad Shehzad 25 with 3 fours
Dwayne Smith 20 with 1 four, 1 six

Wickets:

2 M. Asghar, Ghulam Mudassir
1 Sohail Tanvir, Irfan Jnr, Nawaz, Waller

I really hope that Hasnain will be given a game instead of Mudassar. He doesn't offer much with his medium pace. Quetta's bowling attack is really weak now that i think about it. I mean Anwar Ali and Mudassar as two of your pacers

I don't back this team to defend totals because it is far too weak.

Smith is useless also. They should replace him for Saud/ Danish Aziz and play Gurney instead of Anwar Ali.

Smith will be replaced by Dwayne Bravo who will be arriving ahead of their next game. Narine is also due to arrive soon. Full strength Quetta is insane.

Bravo happy to pass his knowledge to young players in HBL PSL

Dubai, 3 March 2019:

Globe-trotting former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo showed delight in passing his knowledge about the game to some of the youngsters he comes across during the HBL PSL and termed the league a “tournament for younger generation of Pakistan cricket”.

The 35-year-old, who retired from international cricket last year, is featuring for Quetta Gladiators in the HBL PSL 4 and showed a glimpse of his utility with three for 19 in four overs to help Quetta Gladiators beat Multan Sultans by six wickets in Dubai on Friday.

With his variation in bowling and great utility in batting and fielding, Bravo is the man in demand for various leagues around the world. He has played for Chennai Super Kings, Gujrat Lions and Mumbai Indian in the Indian Premier League.

Essex and Kent have been his teams in England’s Twenty20 leagues, while Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi were his sides in the previous editions of the HBL PSL. He has featured for Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash in Australia. In the Caribbean Premier League, he has played for Trinbago Knight Riders, Trinidad & Tobago and Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.

Asked if he passes his knowledge of delivering so many varieties in bowling, Bravo replied: “Definitely, that’s why I stand at mid-off and mid-on most of the time to feed my knowledge to the young fast bowlers.

“I ask them a few questions just to see how they are feeling. For me, it’s not about trying to change anything or try to coach them, but it’s about knowing how developed their brains are, how they react under pressure and then I intervene with my experience. It’s important to allow them to make mistakes, allow them to learn, and they be free and they are allowed to learn.”

Bravo said Twenty20 format is tough and bowlers can get frustrated at being thrashed.

“This format is tough for the bowlers, so it’s important that the bowlers keep believing in themselves,” said Bravo, whose slower ones and lethal yorkers have earned him the most wickets in Twenty20 cricket with 475.

He was part of both the West Indies sides that won the ICC World Twenty2o in 2012 and 2016.

“You can easily put yourself under pressure when couple of balls go to the boundary and that’s where my roles is, which is to keep them calm and allow them to learn to come back.”

Bravo reckoned the HBL PSL tournament was meant for the younger generation of Pakistan cricketers and was excited to see young fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain bowling at 140-150kph speed.

“It’s good to see a young fast bowler bowling at such a speed,” said Bravo of Hasnain who is playing for Quetta.

“Pakistan have always produced some of the best fast bowlers in the world and it’s nice to see him. He is young and fast and it is a joy to see him from mid-off and mid-on. I will definitely spend some time with him.

“The HBL PSL is a tournament for the young generation of players in Pakistan and it’s great to see domestic tournament where you see such talented players. Quetta has given him (Hasnain) an opportunity and he has grabbed it with both hands.”

Bravo said he enjoys playing leagues around the world.

“For me, this is a game I was born to play as a kid,” said Bravo who hails from Trinidad. “It was my childhood dream to play. I am happy playing it, fans come and pay to watch us and get entertained. I play the game in the right kind of spirit and the way it should be played. We need to have fun and that’s what DJ Bravo is about, that’s what is my brand is about.”

This is pathetic. All team members should be treated equal. Giving vip treatment to the foreign players. What about the locals?

Sarfaraz Ahmed at end of the match

"Both sides played good cricket and the spectators also enjoyed it a lot"

"When you need 10-12 run on the average, then it seems easier to get but when you just need 5 runs it can be difficult and we made a small mistake and lost 2-3 wickets due to which we lost the match"

"Ahmed Shehzad played a wonderful innings and we are saddened by the fact that he couldnt get to his 100 and we also lost the match"

"No target is safe and you will need to play very good cricket"

"It is not true [that I will go to UAE with the side], I will try my best to stay at home and watch the games in comfort"

"Even we were bewildered in the way the game went out of our hands"

"The team we have selected for the ODI series vs Australia is a good one, we have ensured that we gave a chance to the top domestic performers who did not get an opportunity before"

"When you need 10-12 run on the average, then it seems easier to get but when you just need 5 runs it can be difficult and we made a small mistake and lost 2-3 wickets due to which we lost the match"

What is this logic? can somebody explain

He means when 12 runs are needed and other players besides Sarfraz are batting then its an easy task. However, 5 runs when Sarfraz is batting becomes difficult :p #CaptainSmart

What is this logic? can somebody explain

Sometimes you may feel more pressure the closer you get to winning, and when you're expected to win. For example in a game of pool, you might have potted all your reds, whilst your opponent has potted half his yellows, but the pressure of potting the black can make you screw up.

Not a great choice playing Anwar ALi as a specialist batsman

Bravo's batting touch is worrying. Sarf needs to take responsibility and bat at 5. It worked earlier on so why change it?

Quetta Gladiators wore Salam Pakistan shirts to show solidarity with all the stakeholders of the country who want peace in the country and to honour all those involved in brining more PSL matches to Pakistan.
We are proud Pakistanis

Easily the most likable team. Only team to have kept their core and captain consistent and have been successful in each season. I hope they finally go ahead and win it this year.

The additions of Bravo and Watson have been great. The only thing they need is a local all-rounder like Faheem Ashraf to replace Anwar Ali. They would have 3 excellent death bowlers then.

Moin Khan presser:

"Our team is ready for the next match, as you saw the last match was also a nail biting one and was a great match to watch for Karachiites"

"We will hope to win the match and its a little hot today so we will try and keep the training session a little light today"

"Shane Watson is resting today as he wasnt feeling well and also its was warmer today"

"The purpose of this shirt (Salam Pakistan) is to offer our gratitude to the stakeholders and all those people who wish to see PSL flourish in Pakistan"

"Quetta Gladiators are wearing these shirts so that a message of peace is sent to our country and to the world to show how well PSL is taking place in Pakistan, and it is our hope that next year the whole of the tournament will be held in Pakistan"
