[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Sajid Khan - International performance watch

Peshawar couldn’t get him into their team because Iftikhar considered himself as the frontline spinner

Why didn’t the management ask for Iftikhar as a replacement?
I think you have your answer now.

He has been totally toothless so far. He should have exploited that rough patch that Salman has done. Not spinning it too much to look threatening.

Considering it's his first SENA tour he didn't do terribly in my opinion. Definitely could improve but don't think he was as bad as people think

He was a disaster at home in series against Australia and dropped from subsequent Eng & NZ series. Even Nathan Lyon outperformed him in Lahore test. Sajid & Nauman have been embarrassing as spinners

He's beyond awful in tests but he's dreaming about odis and t20s. He's as garbage as they come. Thanks to ifti for not giving him much game time as he's truly awful.

Am liking Sajid aggression really giving the ball proper revs.

We need more of this from our bowlers to stand any chance of doing well on this wicket.

I do believe Sajid and Noman have been mistreated. They weren't given enough long ropes and the Test matches you won in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were because of these two.

Of course if you are going to make highway they are going to struggle on it. But make a supporting pitch like in this Test and Sajid and Noman will deliver. Sajid has time but unfortunately Noman is getting quite old now and might retire in a couple years.

I would play him ODI too.

Pakistan too scared to play a proper spinner in white ball formats and want mediocre spin all rounders instead
'Jo Sajid ne aaj jo turn kia. Maza agaya. Ye Shadab, Nawaz aur Mir ki jaga agr Sajid hota WC23 main'. 🔥

Have a look yourselves. Although this is a different format, it’s just to give you an idea of how he has been mistreated by people in power.

Iftikhar Ahmed was the captain of Peshawar and he bowled 44 overs as the frontline spinner. Sajid was given 2 games (at the back end) and bowled 6 overs in total.

Can anyone explain why Iftikhar thinks it’s ok to play as the main spinner in a tournament with so many relu kattas? They have been screwing this guy over monumentally!

Pakistan in DESPERATE need of a frontline spinner in all formats, but the guys in power (Dosti Yaari Nexus) have been blocking players everywhere!

Zafar Gohar was also screwed in a similar way

Sajid Khan answered following queries in his media interaction today:

Did the pressure to do good after a long awaited comeback since Sydney Test helped your performance today?

First of all, All praise to ALLAH Almighty that I performed well today and will try to emulate the same tomorrow. You talked about the Australia series, Abrar got injured there and Noman underwent an operation and that is why I was afforded a chance as a replacement then and thankfully I performed well there. So it is just a game of luck, I didn't get a chance in the Bangladesh series but now have received one and will try to perform well here.

Thoughts on your magical spell in the third session and significance of wickets of Joe Root and Harry Brook:

Root is one of the finest player in the world of cricket and also for England so his wicket always give you a unique sense of joy. And Brook scored a triple century against us last time and is also England's potential future star so his wicket was special too. But the match hasn't ended yet so we would be eager to claim the rest of the wickets too tomorrow.

You haven't played any cricket except 10-12 matches of Grade 1 and Grade 2 tournament recently so how does you prepared yourself for this red ball challenge?

I was in England before this series and was there to play the county cricket for Lancashire. And after returning home I started preparation for red ball cricket bearing in mind the Bangladesh Test series. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance there. As I also play for my department so afterwards I joined them for the white ball format. And being part of the Panthers squad, I only got the chance to feature in the Final of Champions One-Day Cup and Alhumdulilah emerged as man of the match there. Afterwards I went back to the departmental team for the one day tournament. So I tried to maintain (my bowling rhythm for) myself through participation in different red-ball and white-ball games no matter whereever I got the chance with the sole focus of delivering my best performance.

With spinners leading the team's bowling what plan was devised to cope with England's aggressive batting?

England was attacking at the start and so were we (spinners). We were attacking them with the new ball which was providing us sharp bounce and turn. So initially when both sides were attacking each there then we were going for plenty. So when we head back to the dug out at Tea then we revised our strategy and ALLAH Almighty graced us then.

Thoughts On feeling any pressure on the field:

No, you don't feel any significant pressure when you are bowling in partnership with an experienced spinner like Noman bhai with a lot of experience in domestic and international cricket. Also captain, vice-captain and keeper was always there to back us up that's why there wasn't any significant pressure there.

How much are you enjoy bowling at this pitch and your thoughts on missed run out opportunity?

Yeah, I am enjoying bowling here. But there is nothing in the middle of the pitch for spinners, only bowling sideways with altering variations and pace can help you claim wickets. I am reiterating this that there is still nothing in this pitch (for the bowlers) even though it is the 2nd Test on this surface now. You can only get anything (wickets) here by varying your pace otherwise nothing in the surface yet.

On missed run out opportunity, yes it shouldn't have happened whenever you are representing the green star crest and also as I am generally a good fielder in the domestic and internationals. But good that he got out out soon, shouldn't have occurred but it (misfielding) is a part of the game and happens sometimes.

With what mindset do you play?

I have been playing cricket from a very young age from Peshawar. So I have been playing cricket for 17 to 18 years now. So I have learnt (one thing) that you had to follow the process and leave the rest on God. So I have this firm faith in ALLAH and I always focus on my hard work and try to give my best whenever I got a chance. If you had observed in the start they were smashing me at 6 and above runs per over like it was a T20 game going on but we sticked with the process (game plan) and God graced us.

On strategy against Brook:

I had seen him playing in the first Test. He like Mohammad Yousaf plays on the back foot so it provides him an extra time to play the deliveries. But there was a patch today near the off stump. So when I bowled the first ball to him today, I devised a plan with Rizwan bhai to keep bowling him around the same. Rizwan bhai backed me to do the same regardless the fact whether I get smashed for a boundary on cover or at mid-on with the sole aim of dismissing him before the end of play.

From what I have seen previously,he wasn't very good. I haven't seen any of the highlights and I am hoping that he has kicked on.

It's been mentioned quite a lot on the forum regarding the lack of quality spinners coming through.

However Sajid Khan is the "best" of a bad bunch. He's not fancy & he doesn't have any mystery. However he knows his weakness & sticks to his strengths. He is fine as a spinner for Pakistan in Test Cricket. Specially when you compare him with Zahid Mehmood, Usama Mir & dare I say Abrar Ahmed.

He has gotten four important wickets in the game today, something Abrar Ahmed struggle to do.

Yes. I remember he was causing all sorts of problems to Aussie batters.

He can spin the ball properly. Not a darter.
If you hear his Post match presentation. You'll see that he understands the game. He thinks of plans. Says that when he saw Brook bat in the last Test. He observed that Brook was playing mostly on back foot and late like MoYo. So when he saw big turn. He made this plan to get one in big when Brook is on back foot to get him out.

Indeed.

Another thing I have observed is he has a naturally aggressive vibe. Feels like an old school Pakistani bowler.

he will always struggle for consistency at the top level because he bowls with pure side spin. if the surface is conducive he will beat batsmen for spin, but he imparts no top spin on the ball, thus struggles to beat batsmen in the flight. if he could add an arm ball to his armoury he would be more dangerous.

Just hold your horses , he is as slow as Abrar off the wicket and need a spinning pitch to assist him in picking up wickets , even Abrar if played in these conditions would have taken a few wickets despite of his slowness.

Let him bowl on a flat pitch and your bubble will get burst.

There is a reason why he picked up only 7 wickets in this whole season so far. If he was any quality spinner he would have been creating havoc at domestic level.

Happy for him. Spinners like him suffered due to chuckers.

He is a pure offie. But he will always be limited thus he is a second spin option. Like how Rehman was to Saeed Ajmal.

We still need a frontline spinner, that doesnt need assistance from the pitch and is also fast through the air. Sajid needs a pitch that assists him.

Whatever happened to M. Asghar?

Yeah, poor guy gets 1 Test and out.

Khushdil Shah preferred by Rizwan as a frontline spinner for Multan Sultans. Clear proof of how these people are screwing careers over

Khushdil shah is used as a bowling option by rizwan in T20 cricket. This thread is about test cricket bowling that too of sajid khan.

What false information am I spreading? Was Khushdil not being used as a full time bowler by Rizwan?! You 100% sure he wasn’t?

He looks a bit like Shikhar Dhawan.
You might be on to something. Here he is thighslapping after a wicket

I don’t really rate him that highly but at least he can spin the bowl. We have too many fraudulent spinners in recent years such as Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan who call themselves spinners but can’t even spin the bowl.

Sajid is nothing special but our standards are at all time low and he is the best of a bad bunch, so he should always play on tracks that offer something for spinners.

Sajid has heart and gives it his all. That’s more than a lot of the recent entitled palyers we’ve seen come through the team.

Sajid is proper mafia vibes

He has heart or whatever but doesn't have the classy high arm action of an offie , won't have a long career in international cricket.

Absolutely loved watching every single over of his bowling yesterday. Hopefully he can build on this performance and become a better test bowler in future. He needs to lose weight and take his bowling very seriously if he wants to help Pakistan win test matches.

There is a difference between t20 and first class cricket.

Sajid khan isnt good enough for t20. Meanwhile khushdils main role is to be economical.

Infact, khusdil turned out to be amongst the highest wicket taker list, and yet here you are whining that why did rizwan do it.

I like his mind games also. Saying pitch has nothing in it, which will boost our batsmen confidence and make England feel they threw it away.

Stay on topic now. No need to bring any irrelevant talk in this thread. Talk about Sajid Khan

Fifer done from Sajid Don. Brilliant stuff from him in this game. Used the conditions to his full potential.

2nd Test five-wicket haul for him.

The first Pakistani off spinner to do this in Pakistan since Saqlain Mushtaq in 2000.

Sajid gets his seventh of the inning.

This has been the 10th time that Pakistan's spinners have claimed all ten wickets at home.

I gave an example of how spinners like Sajid are not being allowed to grow in the Lista A/T20 circuit. There is no reason why guys like Gohar are not playing/bowling in T20 whereas Khushdil is. Khushdil’s selection overall is based on his friendship with Rizwan…

Sky Sports' Nasser Hussain:

"Sajid bowled beautifully for Pakistan. He bowled that attacking line outside the off stump - and also at a really good pace.

"He fired it in, and his control of line and length was immaculate.

"I like his character too. He has got a bit about him, he's got a bit of passion, wears his heart on his sleeve. He's got a fast bowler's mentality as an off-spinner.

"He enjoys his cricket, he's had to wait a long time [since his last Test] and he's made a huge impact already on this Test.

"It's another tick for the Pakistan selectors."

Sajid has made me switch back onto the cricket even if it’s small phases of happiness and PAK loose who cares at least we have someone who tries hard as well as aggressive attacking spinner.

We nee more characters like him
in PAK cricket.
