New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who won a record second term today in India's most politically important state, celebrated his big triumph with holi colours and sweets at the BJP's office in Lucknow.
It was a sea of saffron as Yogi Adityanath waved victory signs at hundreds of BJP workers gathered at the party office, many waving the party's flag. Before the counting of votes, the BJP had promised "early holi" celebrations.

"Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, today the BJP won a majority in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. The voters have blessed Modi-ji's policies of development and good governance," the Chief Minister told the ecstatic crowd.



Today's win catapults the saffron-wearing Yogi Adityanath even higher, to the BJP's top rung.

The win defied predictions of anti-incumbency hitting the BJP in UP amid a devastating wave of Covid and the farmer protests.

Many see Yogi Adityanath, 49, who is known to make divisive speeches, as a Prime Minister candidate one day.

In a recent interview to Reuters, however, the priest-politician said: "I am just a monk... I will serve the people of the state till the party wants or else I will serve people through my ... temple."


Uttar Pradesh is seen as a bellwether of national politics and the BJP's win, against all odds, gives it a massive boost ahead of the 2024 general election.

People voted for Modi because the tag line was “Gujarat model of development” not exactly Hindu-Muslim, Pakistan etc etc. obviously these things are part of the debate but are never the biggest selling point.

If Modi’s selling point agenda focused on economic development Yogi’s agenda is on internal security and law and order.

There is evidence that Mother Teresa was obsessed about suffering. She let people suffer and prayed for them instead of giving medical care. But she still did more than any other charity did for destitutes.
Christianity is a proselytizing religion. It is her duty to spread the word of Jesus who she truly believes in.

You do realise that BJP has sizeable presence in AP and Telengana. BJP'S vote share has been increasing in TN as well.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this evening, three days after he won a second consecutive victory for the party in the state elections, besting Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav.

"Met Yogi Adityanath ji today. I congratulated him on the historic win in the UP elections. In the last 5 years, he has worked tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the people.I am sure that in the years to come, he will take the state to greater heights of development," tweeted PM Modi after the meeting that lasted two hours.

On agenda, say sources, were the cabinet discussion for the new government in Uttar Pradesh. The swearing-in ceremony date was also discussed during the meeting, they added.

In one of the biggest upsets in an otherwise spectacular show, the party's number two in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, lost the election. He lost in Sirathu by around 7,000 votes, to Samajwadi Party ally Pallavi Patel of the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi).

Besides Keshav Maurya, 10 more ministers lost the election.

Yogi Adityanath's second deputy, Dinesh Sharma, did not contest the election.

The party has to clarify if Mr Maurya will stay as Deputy Chief Minister or another leaders will replace him. Sources say, Mr Maurya can still take the legislative council route.

Yogi Adityanath was a member of the legislative council until he contested his first assembly election this time and won from the Gorakhpur Urban constituency.

After meeting the Prime Minister, Yogi Adityanath met BJP president JP Nadda.

Earlier in the day, the UP Chief Minister met BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

The BJP won 255 seats in the 403-member assembly. Its two allies secured another 18 seats.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a law-and-order review meeting last night, issuing a set of directions that assume significance considering the recent clashes in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area.

In a statement, the government said the directions were being issued as the festivals of Eid and Akshay Tritiya are likely to fall on the same date early next month.

It said that no religious procession or marches will be allowed without proper permission. All organisers will be required to submit an affidavit promising to maintain peace and harmony before permission is given, the statement added. Only those religious traditional festivities will be allowed and new events will not be given permission, a tweet from his official account said.

No permission will be given for Microphones at any new locations, those already using loudspeakers can do it only after ensuring the volume does not disturb anyone, the statement said. Religious programmes can happen only at designated spots and road routes and traffic will not be blocked, it added.

The state government had on Monday cancelled the leaves of all police and administrative officials in the state till May 4 and asked all those on leave to report within 24 hours, news agency PTI reported.

Yogi Adityanath directed the officials from the police station to the Additional Director General (ADG) level to hold dialogues with religious leaders and eminent personalities within the next 24 hours to ensure peace during the upcoming festivals and said mikes can be used at religious places but no new permission of their installation should be given.

"The leave of all administrative/police officers, from SHO, CO and district police chiefs to the district magistrate, the divisional commissioner is cancelled till May 4 with immediate effect. Those who are currently on leave must return to the place of posting within the next 24 hours. This arrangement should be ensured by the Chief Minister's Office," Yogi Adityanath said.

"Additional police forces should be deployed in sensitive areas and drones used for keeping an eye on the situation. Every evening, the police force must do foot patrolling and police response vehicles (PRVs) should remain active," he said while holding a law and order review meeting with senior officials.

"There are many important religious festivals in the coming days. The month of Ramadan is going on. Eid festival and Akshaya Tritiya are likely to be on the same day. In such a situation, considering the current environment, the police will have to be extra sensitive," he said.


Stating that everyone has the freedom to follow his method of worship according to his religious ideology, the Chief Minister noted, "Although mikes can be used, make sure the sound does not come out of the premises. Other people should not have any problem." He added that no permission should be given to install the mikes at new sites.

Yogi Adityanath added that the safety of every single citizen in Uttar Pradesh is the primary responsibility of the government and the people.

"All of us have to be alert and careful about this responsibility of ours," he added.

All necessary efforts should be made keeping in view the local needs so that every festival is held in peace and harmony, he said and called for stern action against those issuing mischievous statements.

"Those trying to vitiate the atmosphere should be dealt with strictly. There should be no place for such people in a civilised society," he said.

Religious programmes and worship should be held at the designated place only and it should be ensured that no religious event takes place by disrupting traffic, he said. "If they (officials) have government accommodation, they should stay there or take one on rent, but they have to stay in their posting place at night. It should be strictly followed," he said.

Roadshows In 18 Countries, UP Eyes 10 Lakh Crore Investment For Big Investors Meet In 2023

Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government will hold programmes in 18 countries in the coming months with an objective to attract investors ahead of the 'Global Investors Summit' in February 2023, according to officials.

The countries where the UP government will hold road shows include Japan, Germany, Thailand, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, France, Netherlands, Belgium, the UAE and Canada, a government official said.

In the first leg, UP Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta and Public Works Department Minister Jitin Prasada will be travelling to Europe in December, the official said.

Mr Gupta and Mr Prasada will be touring Germany, Belgium and Sweden in Europe from December 9 to 14, according to an official communication sent by the UP government to the Ministry of External Affairs.

"The UP Global Investors Summit 2023 is scheduled for February 10, 2023 in Lucknow. Prominent cities in 20 counties have been chosen for holding 'road shows' ahead of the summit with a view to informing investors about the immense investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh," the official added.

The state government will bear the expenses of the foreign tours, which have been approved by the chief minister, according to the communique.

Last week, Minister Gupta had sent out invitations to the industrial development ministers of 13 countries -- the UAE, Japan, Germany, Thailand, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada -- for the summit.

The UP government is targeting investments worth ₹ 10 lakh crore during the mega event.

Mr Gupta said there are very favourable conditions for industry and investment in Uttar Pradesh and the government has made an inclusive and sustainable policy after a detailed, comprehensive study of the policies of various states.

"We have paid special attention to the interests of the investors. We have written to industry ministers of various countries and are getting positive responses for this," the cabinet minister said.

"The summit will be grand and unforgettable. The event will accelerate UP towards becoming a USD one trillion economy," he added.

Moradabad: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday claimed that under the BJP rule, Uttar Pradesh has transformed into a "safe" and "riot-free" state, and is set to become the first choice of investors.

Addressing a 'Prabuddha Jan Sammelan' (meeting of intellectuals) here, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh will soon turn into the country's leading economy.

"There is no place for crime, hooligans or miscreants in UP and the state is progressing. The criminals are in jails or have fled the state. Due to this, Uttar Pradesh is becoming the first choice of investors," the chief minister said at the event where he launched 30 development projects worth ₹ 424 crores.

"Due to the safe atmosphere in the state, the brass city of Moradabad is scaling new heights. The talented and skilled craftsmen are giving recognition to the country. The BJP's arrival in 2017 has given appropriate encouragement to the potential of the region for it to prosper," he stressed.

Traders, women and youth are all safe in Moradabad due to the strong rule of law, he said.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that 37,000 poor people have benefitted from the Pradhan Mantri and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana in Moradabad while loans have been given to vendors under the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana.

Slamming the Samajwadi Party, Yogi Adityanath said, "The brass business of Moradabad was on the verge of closure during the SP's regime. The SP did not take any initiatives for it." "After the formation of the BJP government, the CNG (compressed natural gas) and PNG (piped natural gas) were delivered for proper operation of furnaces. Moradabad's business has reached exports worth ₹ 14,000 to 15,000 crores due to CNG-powered furnaces," he said.

Melinda Gates Meets Yogi Adityanath, Praises UP's Development Model

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation co-founder Melinda Gates today said Uttar Pradesh could be a model not just for India but the world.

During a special meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence, she discussed furthering the foundation's technical cooperation with the state government in health care, nutrition and agriculture, according to an official release.

Ms Gates said the Uttar Pradesh government's work on Covid management and the control of diseases such as encephalitis was exemplary.

Amid the challenges posed by Covid, the way the leadership worked for the people is highly commendable. The world should learn from the manner the state vaccinated such a large and dense population, she said, according to the government release.

The efforts of Uttar Pradesh in health security, financial inclusion, nutrition, education and women empowerment are inspiring and the state is a model not only for India but the world, she added.

Discussing the foundation's deep ties with the state, Ms Gates said it intended to further improve relations in the time to come.

Ms Gates also appreciated the digital banking system implemented in the state.

"The work done for the betterment of infrastructure in the past years is unprecedented. The development of Uttar Pradesh is wonderful, its direction is right," the government release quoted her as saying.

Adityanath said the foundation had made a commendable contribution in health and nutrition.

"Uttar Pradesh received logistics and technical support from the foundation amid the challenges of Covid. We are grateful to the foundation," the statement quoted the chief minister as saying.

This apart, the foundation cooperated for the effective control of communicable diseases such as chikungunya and kala-azar, he added.

Adityanath admitted that a lot still remained to be done in terms of health security and the major challenge was the availability of skilled nurses/paramedics.

Referring to the results of Mission Shakti in Uttar Pradesh for women empowerment, the chief minister said the campaign focused on three dimensions of safety, respect and self-reliance.

"Twenty per cent post in police recruitment have been reserved for women. Today, women beat constables have been deployed in every gram panchayat of the state. Along with security, it is also emphasising the efforts of public awareness. Panic buttons have been arranged in public transport to strengthen women's safety," he said.

He also invited Gates, who later met Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, for the investors' summit in February.

Adityanath also spoke on India's G20 presidency and said it was a matter of pride for all. He added that this period would prove to be important for the happiness, prosperity and security of the world.

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Tuesday scrapped the state government's draft notification on urban local body elections and ordered holding the polls without reservation for the OBCs. The verdict was passed by a division bench of Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Saurav Lavania.

Don Atiq Ahmad's son Asad killed in an encounter in UP's Jhansi

Asad, son of mafia Atiq Ahmad, and Ghulam, son of Maksudan, wanted by the police for their alleged involvement in the murder of Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, have been killed in an encounter. Both were killed during a police operation in Jhansi. The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Navendu and DySP Vimal from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF). The police recovered sophisticated weapons that were made in a foreign country. More information about the incident is still being gathered.

The police had announced a reward of five lakh rupees each for information leading to their arrest.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been briefed about the encounter. Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad gave information about Atiq Ahmad's son's encounter to CM Yogi.

The chief minister has summoned a report from the Special Task Force (STF) in the Jhansi encounter case and is personally monitoring the matter.

Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother appeared before a court in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case on Thursday. The two were presented in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Gautam at around 11:10 am amid tight security. Atiq Ahmed was transported from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat to Prayagraj by road for the hearing, while his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf was brought from a Bareilly jail.

Don Atiq Ahmad's son Asad killed in an encounter in UP's Jhansi

Asad, son of mafia Atiq Ahmad, and Ghulam, son of Maksudan, wanted by the police for their alleged involvement in the murder of Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, have been killed in an encounter. Both were killed during a police operation in Jhansi. The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Navendu and DySP Vimal from the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF). The police recovered sophisticated weapons that were made in a foreign country. More information about the incident is still being gathered.

The police had announced a reward of five lakh rupees each for information leading to their arrest.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been briefed about the encounter. Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad gave information about Atiq Ahmad's son's encounter to CM Yogi.

The chief minister has summoned a report from the Special Task Force (STF) in the Jhansi encounter case and is personally monitoring the matter.

Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother appeared before a court in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case on Thursday. The two were presented in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Gautam at around 11:10 am amid tight security. Atiq Ahmed was transported from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat to Prayagraj by road for the hearing, while his brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf was brought from a Bareilly jail.
