KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) management organised lectures for the six franchises who are participating in the tournament to guide them on anti-corruption methods.

The lectures were organised in Dubai after all franchises landed in the city for the opening ceremony of the month-long tournament on February 22.

Every team was briefed individually while team officials from the six franchises accompanied the players.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) anti-corruption and security unit head Colonel (R) Azam and general manager legal Salman Naseer warned the players to stay away from suspicious individuals and activity while also briefing them on the cons of fixing and the subsequent punishments.

Five of the six PSL franchises will be staying in one hotel, while Lahore Qalandars will be staying alone in another one.

Team owners will not be allowed to access players’ floors, and if they want to meet the team, will have to do so in the meeting rooms.

PCB officials will also have to take permission before meeting players and if the players want to entertain a guest, they can do so, but only with prior permission and in the lobby of their hotels.

Moreover, players and team officials were also provided mobile sims from when they reached their hotels in Dubai so that their phone activities can be recorded.

Every team will also have an integrity officer with them throughout the tournament who will make sure the players are safeguarded from any suspicious individual or activity.

Since Lahore Qalandars are staying in a different hotel, they will have two integrity officers with the team

Players' activities to be monitored as PCB's code of conduct for PSL goes into effect

The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Code of Conduct for the 2018 Pakistan Super League went into effect on Wednesday, a day before the league's third edition is to begin in Dubai, DawnNews reported citing board sources.

A series of restrictions have been placed on both the cricketers and their franchises in order to avoid a repeat of the infamous spot-fixing scandal that rocked the PSL last year.

The PCB has provided all the players with new sim cards, with their telephonic data to be recorded and monitored by the PCB's anti-corruption unit.

The players, until the tournament ends, are no longer allowed to go on personal trips and can only travel with their teams. Any meetings with guests will also have to take place in the hotel lobby where the teams are staying.

The franchise owners, meanwhile, will neither have access to players' rooms nor will they be allowed to have rooms on the same hotel floors as the players.

The PCB has beefed up its code of conduct even more this year so as to avoid another episode like last year's when Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and others were lured into a spot-fixing scandal by bookmakers.

The scandal saw both Sharjeel and Latif banned from cricket for multiple years.

Can't literally jail the players, this is a gross invasion of their privacy and personal lives.

I can see how this could annoy players, better not get too serious with it or it might be a deterrent for players.

In a bid to avoid a repeat of last year’s spot-fixing scandal in the Pakistan Super League, the Pakistan Cricket Board has enforced several stringent anti-corruption measures in the ongoing tournament in the UAE.

According to details, the PCB’s anti-corruption, vigilance and security unit has involved a noted website to keep a close watch on any unusual betting trends in the third edition of the PSL.

“The website based in London is keeping track of all bets placed on the PSL matches from all over the world and if they notice or pick up any unusual betting patterns on the tournament they will report it to the PCB’s ACU with all details,” a board official said.

He added the website had been hired as it kept a close tab on all betting that takes place on cricket matches around the world and is a specialist in picking up unusual patterns.

“In addition, the board has deputed extra security and vigilance officers with the six franchises at their hotels in Dubai,” he said.

He said players had been told clearly they couldn’t invite their guests to their rooms and if they wanted to meet their them they can only do it in the hotel lobby.

“Players have also been told to provide all details of the guests they are meeting or if they intend to dine out,” he said. The official said that last year’s spot-fixing scandal had proven to be a big embarrassment for Pakistan cricket.

“Even the team owners have been told not to stay on the same hotel floors as their teams.”

The official said the ACU officials had also coordinated with local law enforcement agencies to keep a watch on people using mobile phones in the stadiums to convey any information to their contacts who might be betting on matches.

Last year the PSL spot-fixing scandal led to at least six Pakistani players being suspended while two of them, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, were immediately suspended and sent back home from Dubai.

Later the anti-corruption tribunal of the PCB imposed a five-year ban on Sharjeel and Khalid.

This is what separates IPL from PSL. IPL will forever remain the best. Players should be allowed to have fun if they want to. I'm all for the partying.

This is way the A grade cricketers never would take part in PSL. It’s just a hassle and honestly not worth the time and effort.

IPL is perfect, players actually enjoy it have no worries and can enjoy the game it should be.

Heck I bet some players underperform to avoid reaching the finals and having to go to Pakistan. They know Pakistan is a desperate league and they will still get brought next season.

A grade players will flock to the PSL once we get more teams, more rich PSL Franchise owners and if we bump the salaries up. The PSL just needs to be held in a seperate window

That’s. HUGE IF. As long as Pakistan is deemed and perceived unsafe, and as long as uae hosts psl, it will never grow.

A safe and happy Pakistan hosting PSL will be $$$$$$. Until then it’s another league.
