:))) the fail project now has drainage issues

This whole BRT project is utter embarrassment for PTI. First they criticized these types of projects in Punjab, then initiated the same project in Peshawar which is yet to be completed .

This whole BRT project is utter embarrassment for PTI. First they criticized these types of projects in Punjab, then initiated the same project in Peshawar which is yet to be completed .

The sad attempt to reform the education system has been a bigger disaster. Ultimately, both projects have been doomed for the same reason - too much focus on the opposition and zero self-accountability.

So much immaturity in this thread; I work in project management and it is not unusual for projects to over run, go over budget etc

So much immaturity in this thread; I work in project management and it is not unusual for projects to over run, go over budget etc

You are very right that it is not unusual for projects to be delayed and for the budget to spill over. However, PTI’s failures with BRT go deeper than that.

Let’s say that your company spends years aggressively criticizing another company for spending too much time and money on a particular project, and how your company will show them how it is done.

However, when your company decides to try their hands on the same project, they goof up big time. Do you think your company would not warrant criticism?

Besides, some of the blunders that PTI have made are unforgivable. Only last month, after spending millions, they have realized that at various points, the trail for the buses isn’t wide enough for the buses to pass through.

The laborers and workers on field are adamant that they warned the higher authority but they refused to listen.

I don’t know much about project management, but I believe that such basic errors can only be a result of gross incompetence. If you are making a metro bus, I imagine that the width of the trail is one of the first things that you have to establish even before you start working on the actual construction.

Furthermore, there has been no accountability either. PTI leadership are yet to explain to the public why they have goofed up. Their actions are a clear contradiction to their manifesto.

This is a much needed reality check for PTI. It is easy to talk about accountability, transparency, integrity and competency. However, practicality is different - it is always easier said than done.

Now, it is up to the PTI government to learn from this humiliation and not flaunt and criticize others before getting the job done. Over-confidence rarely pays off, and it certainly didn’t here.

So the ADP funding the project are actually happy with the pace.
"Experts of Asian Development Bank (ADB) expressed their satisfaction on the provincial capital’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and declared it as being at par with international standards.

Projects of such nature were normally completed in 24 to 30 months all over the world, while Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) completed the BRT project in a record time 15 months, they said"

This is what KP's Finance Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra tweeted two days ago:

BRT

It is later than we wanted. We feel the frustration of the people of Peshawar.

Substantial progress has been made. But it would be wrong to open now. Thank you @IMMahmoodKhan for the right decision.

Let us get this right, as an asset for Peshawar.https://t.co/Dew3AD5DZx
— Taimur Khan Jhagra (@Jhagra) March 23, 2019

So he has admitted that there has been a delay in BRT. It appears that KP's Finance Minister does not have a clue. What sort of people has Imran appointed in his government? Perhaps I should forward him this article so that he can issue a public apology for misleading the people by stating that the BRT "is later than we wanted".

The pertinent point here is not how long it has taken for PTI to complete the project; the point is that they should not have come up with fake deadlines for cheap votes and political rhetoric, something the ADP is probably unaware of. Had the PTI government explicitly stated that this undeniably complicated project would take X number of years, people would not have criticised them.

The project was officially started in Oct 2017, and Pervez Khattak stated on record that they will show the other governments how it is done. So far, there have been 6 deadlines for the completion of this project:

Fake deadline #1: April 2018
Fake deadline #2: May 2018

Fake deadline #3: June 2018

Even an incompetent government like PTI knew very well that this project cannot be completed in 6 months. However, the first two fake deadlines were to mislead the gullible public and win cheap votes. That is why the BRT project was delayed until the end of their term so that they could use the momentum to win votes for the July 2018 elections.

Fake deadline #4: December 2018
Fake deadline #5: 23 March 2019

Deadline #6: June 2019.

A word on fake deadline #5: Yesterday, i.e. Pakistan Day was supposed to the inauguration for the BRT. A week or so earlier, the inauguration changed into a "soft opening", and even that was pushed back.

Now, only time will tell if Deadline #6 is going to turn out to be fake or not.

If PTI were honest with the public in December 2017 and would have explicitly stated that this project would take 1.5 or 2 years to complete, it would not have been a problem. However, they brought the criticism and humiliation on themselves by lying to the public that the project will be completed within 6 months.

The worst thing is that they didn't even stop lying after the first three fake deadlines. In June 2018, they should have admitted to the public that the December deadline was simply not realistic.

Considering the stage of development at that point, every man and his dog in Peshawar knew that there was no way this project could be wrapped up by December, but our exemplary government continued to lie and embarrass themselves. they fully deserve the humiliation that they have suffered because of BRT.

So they have messed up because they were too ambitious with the timings but with the international standards they are ok. This is hardly the crime of the century
As you are using this stick to beat the PTI because it shows incompetence to you, can you know tell us what happened at Nandipur?

So PTI set themselves tougher/tighter deadlines than their financiers? That is incredible. Shows that they don't fear failure and are willing to take risks. I guess that's why they resonate so much with the KPK populace, who live and breathe fearlessness.

They really do reach for the stars. This evidently also provides plenty of ammunition for bitter people to spread their negativity, but when it's all said and done, I've yet to see the bitter brigade end up winning. Instead turn coat like Italians during the world wars and celebrate the win.

Totally agree. Mamoon narrative destroyed by the ADB

Love how cult members sugarcoat everything.

“They were ambitious”

“They don’t fear failure”

“They aim for the stars”

Rubbish. As incompetent as they are, they are not fools. They knew that this project cannot be completed in 6 months, but they made the tall claims to fool the gullible supporters who are happy to believe everything and do bhangra on whatever they say.

They started the project in December 2017 and claimed to complete it by April-May only to gain momentum for the elections. They lied to win cheap votes. How pathetic.

If PTI didn’t fear failure, they would publicly explain what went wrong and why they had to push back the deadline 5 times. We all saw Pervez Khattak’s awful excuses when he was put on the spot a few months back.

Totally agree. Mamoon narrative destroyed by the ADB

ADB is not aware of the cheap politics on display and they have nothing to do with PTI’s fake deadline of 6 months to win votes.

They are simply going by the standard duration of how long it usually takes to complete a project like this.

As I stated earlier, the problem is not with how long it has taken. The problem is with PTI’s lies to win votes. Had they not come up with the “we will complete it in 6 months” nonsense and the 5 fake deadlines, no one would be criticizing them.

So 1st your narrative was that it was incompetence, and suddenly it has changed to the fact that they exaggerated. What a climb down! Another humiliation for you.

Please Explain Nandipur, who was incompetent rather than being too ambitious?

So 1st your narrative was that it was incompetence, and suddenly it has changed to the fact that they exaggerated. What a climb down! Another humiliation for you.

Their fake school reforms and the ill-planned width of the trail for the BRT - and the way they have turned Peshawar into a hell-hole because of BRT - shows their incompetence.

Not only are they incompetent, they are also liars and played cheap politics to win votes. That is why plenty of hardcore PTI supporters in Peshawar have lost faith in them.

But your main narrative was against the time taken and that has been destroyed by the ADB. Another humiliation !

My main narrative was that the projected has been delayed numerous times. I am sure you were unaware of KP’s Finance Minister tweet when you were proudly advertising the ADB statement.

And I am not interested in your Nandipur deflection because it is a separate issue. It is not about my stance on corruption.

Your main narrative was that they were incompetent and that was the reason for the time taken, the ADP has said that it's not true, your narrative has been laid to waste, and like all your narratives in support of crooks who you can't bring yourself to comment on. Now for real incompetence, explain Nandipur

‘Peshawar BRT to be launched next year’

Having already missed several deadlines, the provincial government has said the multi-billion Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project would be completed next year.

The new deadline was disclosed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Labour and Culture Shaukat Yousafzai on Monday.

Speaking to a private television channel, Yousafzai said that construction of the mega project is currently underway and is expected to be inaugurated in 2021.

The project’s first deadline for the completion was set as April 20, 2018. But the government missed it and several others since.

Recently, the provincial government hinted at opening the project on August 14 this year.

In January this year, Special Assistant to K-P chief minister on Local Government Kamran Bangash had said that the Reach-I of the project has been completed. He had said Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce a date for inaugurating the project’s Reach-I.

Commenting on the cable car project in the Upper Dir district’s Kumrat valley, the provincial minister said that it will be the world’s largest and highest single cable car service which aims to attract tourists to the scenic valley.

Yousafzai said that K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has approved a feasibility report for the project. Apart from the main attraction of the cable car, facilities will include a car parking space, a restaurant, and other allied facilities.

Covid-19 impacts

Meanwhile, addressing a news conference alongside Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar in Peshawar, Mahmood said that like other sectors, the tourism sector has also been badly affected by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

With the tourist industry lying closed at the height of the summer season, Mahmood said that the government is well aware of the difficulties faced by people related to tourism industry due to the lockdown. However, he explained that all possible measures are being taken by the government to protect the lives of the public.

He further said that they have yet to decide whether to open the tourism sector in the province, adding that the matter will be discussed in the next meeting of the National Coordination Council (NCC) and National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and final decision to this effect would be made in consultation with the federal and other provincial governments after Eid.

Warning that there remains some possibility of another wave of cases, he urged residents of the province to strictly follow preventive measures during Eid and avoid visiting tourist spots.

Addressing the news conference, Umar lauded the initiatives taken by the provincial government to contain the pandemic, with K-P facing huge challenges.

The chief minister further said that he had decided to observe Eidul Azha in a simple manner while he has directed all members of his cabinet to do the same, and as such the general public should also celebrate the annual religious festival in a simple manner and ensure that the SOPs prescribed by the government are implemented to prevent another outbreak of the virus.

This has become a circus!!!As I said before, a cure for COVID-19 will be found first than the BRT being functional!

I hope Dr. Mamoon didn't line up to get his free ZU Peshawar BRT Card today

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project — the flagship project of the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government — is all set to be launched this week, reported The News on Tuesday.

According to The News, the provincial government is likely to inaugurate the project on August 14, but Chief Minister Mahmood Khan will formally announce the exact date after holding a final meeting today (Tuesday) with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Sources have added that the prime minister will inaugurate the project on August 13, Geo News reported.

The Rs70 billion BRT project consists of a 27.5km main track and 31 stations while the length of the feeder routes is 62km and has 146 stops. The main track is connected to seven different areas of the city so that the people can travel from their areas in small buses to reach the main route. Three mega commercial plazas would be completed in June 2021, but the bus parking areas are ready.

About 60,000 travelling cards have been sold in just four days. The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has already handed over the route and stations to Trans Peshawar which has already completed installation of Intelligence Ticking System (ITS).

Official documents have estimated that the initial estimate for the BRT project was Rs49.43 billion, however, the cost of the revised PC-1 had increased to Rs66.43 billion, which was further increased to Rs70 billion.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and AFD had provided $593 million loan for the project, while the remaining amount was provided by the provincial government.

The estimated cost of BRT's civil work (27km track and stations), depots and ITS has increased from Rs32,863 million to Rs52,446 million. Expenditure on parking plazas and off corridor facilities has increased from Rs95 million to Rs320 million. Bike sharing facility has cost Rs132 million whereas the ADB's financial charges, supervision cost and advertisement expenditures have increased from Rs493 million to Rs1,156 million.

The cost of purchasing and dismantling the old buses in the city has increased from Rs1,068 million to Rs1,120 million. An amount of Rs1,553 million was earmarked for PIU-Trans Peshawar and KPUMA, but the expenditure of these departments was reduced to Rs800 million. Rs1,680 million were earmarked for the transfer of power, gas and telephone facilities, but it was reduced to Rs1,500 million.

Amount for the purchase of land was reduced from Rs2,213 million to Rs1,620 million. An amount of Rs7,875 million was allocated for the purchase of new buses which was decreased to Rs7,475 million. As per ADB directives, Rs1,375 million were allocated for contingencies.

Director General PDA Zafar Ali Shah told Daily Jang that the project has a total cost of around Rs70 billion, which was increased due to as the scope of work was enhance. However, he went on to add that the project is ready and can be started at any time.

“The construction of commercial plazas was started late having completion date of June 2021, but these plazas will not affect the BRT operation,” he said. “The construction of the plazas will generate millions of rupees in the form of monthly rent for Trans Peshawar.”

He added, “BRT consists of 27km track and 31 stations while the length of feeder routes is 62 km in which 146 stops have been made to facilitate the people across the city", he added.”

According Trans Peshawar Chief Executive Officer Fayyaz Khan 220 buses for BRT have already arrived in the city.

“92 buses of 18 meters will run on the main route while 128 small buses will run on seven feeder routes,” he said. “A private company has won the contract to run the operation and the trial and testing has already been going on for the last one month. Routes and stations are also being monitored by 750 cameras."

Khan added that about 300,000 passengers will travel in BRT buses daily for which all arrangements have been completed. After receiving the green signal from the government, the buses will start operating. He said that initially the number of passengers may decrease, however, it will gradually increase in number.

After receiving the green signal from the government, the buses will start operating. He said that initially the number of passengers may decrease, however, it will gradually increase in number.

How much subsidy does it require each year? The Lahore train service requires 28bn each year, so if someone can give some comparison with that and the Pindi bus service, it makes it easier to assess the viability of the project. Hermoine Green

Zero subsidy since the project has many commercial aspects as well. Such as three huge parking plazas with hundreds of shops that will be rented out. The fare is cheap as well Rs 15 - 50.

A project of this scale that connects the entire city was always going to take 3-4 years. Stupid Pervaiz Khattak to win an election gave impossible deadline of 6 months which led to so much criticism for PTI. In Pakistan you cannot even make a house in 6 months let alone a city wide bus metro system.

That is great news if the strained public finances don't have to support this, the Lahore Metro will cost around $200mn each year on top of the initial cost of over a $bn.
I agree with you about Khattaks mistake but if a sustainable project has been completed then its a good result. I would also like to see a full audit of the project as that will set a good precedent for all future projects.

is the bus operating in peshawar? posters from peshawar?

The project also connects major hospital, universities and shopping mall of Peshawar. That means the daily fare earnings will be sufficient to cater to most of the expenses.

I agree a full third party audit should be conducted to dispel any notion of corruption.

Zero subsidy bro (on current basis) can't say what will happen in future.

If you go from Saddar to Hayatabad or Uni road Peshawar, Taxi will cost you around 400 500 r.s

Some days back my daughter went to Hayatabad from Gullberg (Saddar) in Careem, cost was 900 r.s

But in BRT, it'll cost 20-50 r.s :)

People used to cry about Road traffic and other problems. Now BRT is fully built, no one is complaining any more.

That's good to hear because a small subsidy is acceptable to cut back pollution but health and education should be the priority.
Does it look value for money and what's the word on the street about whether people plan to use it.

As always, it will be the case of "beauty in the eyes of the beholder" type thing when it comes to appreciating or not appreciating this.

15.1 - 20km : 25 Rs

20.1 - 25km : 30 Rs

25.1 - 30km : 35 Rs

30.1 - 35km : 40 Rs

35.1 - 40km : 45 Rs

40.1 and above : 50 Rs

Some further info :

1, 3rd Generation BRT System, which is a direct service
2, Staging facility with commercial areas
3, Park and ride facilities at depots
4, Commercial validity (with 400,000 ridership)
5, Overtaking/passing lines at stations
6, Segregated cycle facilities along BRT corridor,
7, Pedestrian walkways along BRT corridor
8, Bike sharing schemes at the University of Peshawar
9, Restrooms at every station
10, Free Wifi in the buses
11, Gender segregation at stations and buses
12, Bridges with commercial kiosks
13, Universally accessible project.

The bike-sharing service is a unique feature and it would solve the students’ travel problem to reach their destination.
The commuters in the provincial capital will be able to enjoy rides in a dedicated bicycle lane using the same payment card as the bus service.

To rent out the bicycles, travellers can use their “Zu Card” which they can procure from TransPeshawar. The card can also be used to travel on BRT buses.

In bus, seperate sections are made for men and women.

And also seperate ticket counter sections are made for females and special persons.

ok that sounds good. I would reserve judgment until it has been running for a few months initially. I hope the KPK govt carries out regular reviews to see what is working and what isnt. My assumption is that if this is successful we will see other BRT project albeit on a smaller scale in other KP cities. And the use of the Zu card will become a province wide thing.

Congratulations. I hope people of Peshawar enjoy the new service. They have had to suffer quite a bit during its construction that has undoubtedly caused a lot of headache, but now is the time to reap the rewards.

I heard the same card can be used to ride the BRT network, get bicycle or pay for car/bike parking.

Amazingly integrated system. Mashallah

Happy for you guys, hope Dr. Mamoon can rise above political loyalties and appreciate a good public transport system.

I was in Peshawar in Dec 2019 after marriage and everyone was critical of the failed disastrous Peshawar BRT project. The fact they have turned this around so remarkably in such a short time period is incredible

this is the bigger announcement for me. Because it lays the foundation for universal healthcare in the country. If a debt ridden destroyed britain could create the NHS in the 1940's we can do it in Pakistan.

Sehat Insaf card is one of the best step taken in KPK by PTI govt, some relatives of mine have this card and they have used it as well. And today's news about spreading it to 100% is indeed a massive step.

Mansoor Ali Khan lifafa is sharing some OLD vids of IK when IK was bashing Metro.

Mansoor completely forgot the difference between Metro and BRT :)))

Today i was told by a Noora that 0 subsidy means people or Pakistan will get NOTHING, while on the other hand Metro will be giving billions to Pakistan in future because of Subsidies :))

Not sure why youth brigade is doing bhangra. Why celebrate the completion of a project that has been delayed by at least 2 years and whose budget has been exceeded massively?

It appears that the youth brigade do not expect high standards from a government that was supposed to bring tabdeeli.

You do know that completion was done within international time frames. The ADB said so in their report.

Pardon my ignorance but I hope someone can summarize the salient features of the Sehat Insaaf Card and why it's important for Pakistani people

In my time online, never mind PP, I have never seen such a dishonest person who runs from debates after being proven wrong as Adnan Sami.

It's unreal and I salute people who spend their energies on such a dishonest liar.
