PM Imran Khan inaugurates long-awaited Peshawar BRT project

People are jumping over the ticket gates (who needs Zu card when you can jump over?).

In addition, I hear that they have torn up the seats with knives and are all falling over each other right now.

The poor public of Peshawar is already completely uncivil, and then the genius government decided to open the BRT gates on “jashan-e-azadi”, a day on which the public of Peshawar is particularly off the rails.

A lot of the damage that has been caused would have been avoided if the government didn’t take the genius decision of inaugurating on “jashan-e-azadi”.

It might be a foreign concept but there is a world of difference, or perhaps a galaxy of difference between the behavior and civility of Canadians and uneducated pathans.

Sale of Zu card is down because people have figured that jumping over the gates is free.

Security guards were beaten up because they tried to stop people from jumping over the fence.

Thank you PTI government for inaugurating on jashan-e-Azadi.

It is easy to beat this level of stupidity and the government has reached that level by inaugurating on jashan-e-azaadi.

As I said earlier, the damage would have been reduced significantly had they not opened the gates on the worst possible day.

I agree this is stupid behavior, but what is even more stupid is facilitating this behavior.

Anyone who has spent a day in Peshawar on 14 August would tell you that the hooliganism on this particular day is off the charts. People from nearby villages and rural areas flood to the city and it is a total disaster.

In spite of all that, the government thought it was a sensible decision to inaugurate BRT on a day where hooliganism is at its peak, and for that, the government deserves full criticism.

The damage to property, and the loss of revenue with people jumping over the gates instead of buying the tickets is PTI’s own undoing. What were they expecting?

So you are blaming the govt for treating people as adults. Stupidity and hooliganism is not unique to PK and society grows when people think about their behaviour.

Fools
Then people complain why jokes are made on them.

I am blaming the government for treating stupid people like responsible adults. They are complete fools if they were expecting civility from the public of Peshawar especially on 14 August.

Anyway, it is their loss. They will have to spend money to repair the damages.

After jumping over the ticket gates, they were standing in the buses and shouting Imran Khan zindabad.

That is the level of their intelligence. If they actually care about Imran, they would be spending money and buying the tickets instead of costing the government revenue by jumping.

hayatabad is one of the posh areas of Peshawar. If this happened in Hayatabad than this is a big matter of concern, so really wonder which area was this.

Its like as if Lahore DHA or Karachi DHA people doing such behavior. You wouldn't expect them to behave like that

So one shameless who damage seat was jui worker

Not true. Because today i traveled and i traveled from Gulberg (Saddar). Gulberg is the area which is like entirely opposite to Hayatabad. Even the stop at Kohat adda is also operational because today when i was traveling, bus took a stop there.

So, if these stations (which i mentioned) are working, it means all stations are working.

And yes saeed5646 one of the culprit is from JUI.

Doctor sahab made a guess because some of the work is still under construction. But the routes, stations, terminals e.t.c all are completed, just side work is remaining. Which has nothing to do with the buses or stations.

If this transpeshawar covers the whole district than credit should be given where its due.

The planning of the project was bad but than again if this bus system.is for the whole district than delays are expected.

I am from pindi, and the mtro bus is just a fraud nothing else. It covers one route. The city, the whole god damn city does not have a bus system in place.

I hope pti govt in punjab makes a bus system for pindi/isb now. It has been two years now.

If you are going to build a bus system then it needs to be on the lines of underground rail system ( obviously above ground) where you incorporate all the areas of the city to make mobility easier for the working class and reduce traffic and pollution.

Not really.

Islamabad doesn't have any traffic, you can easily have busses on the street. In Pindi, the only problem on GT road is the Police checkpost they have got, that stops traffic, or else even on GT road of Pindi the Bus could travel on the public road.

Now what causes more problems are the suburbs like Bahria Town and DHA. Their owners dont like the aam public coming into their town, they like to live in their own elite bubble while not realizing the problems they are creating for the public. They won't allow a bus track to go into their town, and their towns are huge.

It covers 75 percent of Peshawar, and that's huge tbh. Today i travelled through BRT and i am delighted and blessed to have such facility in my city.

That was my point about increasing the Mobility of the working class. If people can move around relatively cheaply, it makes easier to find work and it also reduces pollution.

Passengers seen vandalising BRT Peshawar a day after inauguration

In a recent viral video, unruly passengers can be seen vandalising the Bus Rapid Transit stations in Peshawar just a day after the PTI’s landmark project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In the viral video on social media, a man can be seen climbing the top of the BRT bus and at one spot, a crowd of people can be seen jumping over the fences placed around the buses' route.

The video also shows passengers entering the premises without travel cards and new buses with torn seats.

A day ago, PM Imran had inaugurated the project and said that while he had reservations about transit projects earlier, former chief minister KP Pervaiz Khattak had ultimately allayed his concerns.

"A good transport system benefits everyone," said the prime minister, hoping that the system will reduce commute costs for daily travellers.

"Our aim is to make the lives of common people easier. The cost of Rs10 to 50 is enough and doable by daily wagers," said PM Imran.

He said that tickets for students will be introduced so it is easy on their pockets and will aid in mobility as well.

PM Imran expressed satisfaction over the eco-friendly aspect of the transportation medium, noting that the buses are being run on a hybrid fuel source that will reduce pollution as well.

Police deployed across BRT stations
SSP Operations Peshawar, in a statement today, said that police personnel have been deployed across all the stations of the newly-inaugurated BRT service.

The official said that every station will have four policemen for its security, adding that 240 personnel will be deployed for the project in two shifts.

Police can also do patrolling to deal with any untoward situation, said the SSP, adding that the focal person will be monitoring things from the control room of the BRT.

Rs70 billion BRT project
The Rs70 billion BRT project consists of a 27.5km main track and 31 stations, while the length of the feeder routes is 62km and has 146 stops.

The main track is connected to seven different areas of the city so that the people can travel from their areas in small buses to reach the main route. Three mega commercial plazas will be completed as part of the project in June 2021, but the bus parking areas are ready.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and AFD had provided loans amounting to $593 million loan for the project, while the remaining amount was provided by the provincial government.

Also might be a foreign concept for the poster you quoted but on national days public transport is free atleast that is what I've seen in Canada.

No it’s not free in Canada. Never have been free in Regina. Heck they used to shut down public transport on public holidays, leaving public with no options but to go with more expensive cabs. Even in GTA, only day(as far as I know) it’s free is on New Year’s Eve(to encourage people to take free transit and avoid DUI)

In regards to Regina, SK, maybe you don’t care about it, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is part of CANADA.

Two held for beating up BRT guards, more arrests to follow

PESHAWAR: The police have arrested two people for trespassing on the Bus Rapid Transit corridor and beating up guards. The people had taken to the streets on Thursday night in large numbers to celebrate the Independence Day. Many of them entered the BRT corridor and beat up guards for stopping them.

A police official said that two of the trespassers were arrested after identification by the closed-circuit television camera footage.

He said the identification of other mobsters was under way.

The official said the police had registered an FIR against the accused under Pakistan Penal Code sections 337(A2), 337(F2), 427 and 506 for the injuries and criminal intimidation of guards, and damage to BRT property.

He said the police had received a formal request from the relevant department for action against BRT corridor trespassers.

However, an official of the Hashtnagri police station claimed that no one was injured in the incident.

Earlier, TransPeshawar chief executive officer Fayyaz Khan told Dawn that the company was gathering details of the incident for legal action.

TransPeshawar, the government-owned company, has been formed to manage the BRT operations.

A spokesman for the company said the mob didn’t damage the BRT machinery.

“We’re carrying out surveillance. The situation is under control,” he said.

The spokesman said some revellers behaved badly with the company’s guards.

He, however, said the people had been thronging BRT stations since the bus service was launched on Thursday afternoon.

“The situation is likely to normalise within a couple of days,” he said.

In a post on its Facebook page, the company said incidents had been recorded at stations and buses since Thursday.

“We are monitoring every minute of the service and shall inform everyone that ZU Peshawar services are designed to cater transport needs for the public,” it said, adding that in coordination with the security forces, they will take strict action against the culprits and wrongdoers. “Please take responsibility to protect this service and avoid any damages,” it said.

Videos shared on social media showed a large number of people enter the BRT corridor on the GT Road and many beat up guards.

The torn uniforms and bruised faces of guards were visible in pictures shared on social media.

Some trespassers were heard urge the crowd beat up guards. Some gunshots were also heard. However, it was not clear who fired bullets.

A video showed a large number of people jump over closed fare gates at a BRT station.Prime Minister Imran Khan had formally launched the much-delayed BRT project on Thursday afternoon before the bus service was opened to people at around 5pm. Thereafter, a large number of commuters showed up at BRT stations across the city to enjoy the ride despite scorching heat.

Police will take care of it, have some patience.
Meanwhile in Karachi Sindh govt has not even finished one section of a Brt.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra on Thursday showed satisfaction over the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, referring to it as a "vibrant, state of the art service delivering like no other in Pakistan".

The minister shared a detailed thread on Twitter, adding that he decided to undertake a visit and try out the bus service "to see what's working and give feedback".

He travelled in a bus en route to Hayatabad at 2130 hours for a meeting with his constituency team, at the Tehkal stop.

“I thought it'd be useful to test out the BRT service spur of the moment. Glad that I did because it enabled me to see what's working and give feedback,” the minister wrote on Twitter.

Lauding the helpful staff at the stations and the facilities provided at the bus station, Jhagra also praised the discipline exhibited by the people on board, stating that the bus was crowded and almost full with passengers.

“Just getting feedback from those aboard, most of those using the service were using it as a utility and not just out of curiosity; which means the service is working. Let's all own this!” the minister exclaimed.

Referring to the facilities provided to women on board, the minister was happy to see the women's section at the front both occupied and their privacy being respected.

“The biggest piece of feedback was the need for more buses; Insha’Allah we will be doubling the number of buses we have as soon as we can," he said.

Sharing that the staff was courteous and was only permitting people through station gates with masks, Jhagra lamented that unfortunately mask wearing within buses was still low – something to collectively work on.

“Hygiene was good, but keep stations and buses as clean as they ought to be will be our biggest challenge,” he added.

The minister urged the people to own the project and consider it an asset for Pakistan.

“Now, let us all own this as an asset for Peshawar and make it run as well as possible,” the minister asserted.

Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which is the flagship project of the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to make daily commute easier for the locals.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, along with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, were present at the launch of the project, where the premier had also delivered a speech.

While inaugurating the project, PM Imran said while he had reservations about it earlier, former chief minister KP Pervaiz Khattak ultimately allayed his concerns.

"A good transport system benefits everyone," said the prime minister, hoping that the system will reduce commute cost for daily travellers.

"Our aim is to make the lives of common people easier. The cost of Rs10 to 50 is enough and doable by daily wagers. If a daily wager cannot find a job here he can go to another place," said PM Imran.

Yes because PTI procured the buses 2 years ago and they were parked catching rust.

Pervez “mai naach nahi raha tha wo tou hawa chal rahi thi” Khattak thundered that PTI will complete the project in 6 months and quickly bought the buses.

This project has been a great example of mismanagement and incompetence from day one.

You wont believe it but the mismanagement part, the PTI govt and their BRT bus project featured in this years exam session of Fouji Foundation University BBA exam for Project management :)). The question was about how it was mismanaged and what you do to operate it properly.

Might aswell be the govt trying to take advice from bba students :misbah3

Amazing competence shown by the PTI government. Very soon, the entire country will be one big BRT.

You forgot to mention the punctured tyre. Why not comment on the sweet left on buses.

Your bitterness is getting more pathetic by the day. A quack like you wouldn't know a good project if it hit you in the face. Even the corrupt lifafa Saleem Lifafi has gone quiet. Hermoine Green

Mamoon, take a chill pill dude this level of bitterness and anger isn’t good for anyone.

The arguments by the mafia ie they took 6 years for a project that PML N took 3 years whereas it is well documented that the Lahore metro requires gigantic subsidies whereas the Peshawar BRT has a more sustainable business model, only exposes their burnol and badinyati

Not sure how “sustainable” the business model is. The buses are catching fire every week, and they are out of warranty.

No one hurt as another BRT bus catches fire in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A Bus Rapid Transit bus caught fire near Gulbahar area here on Friday.

However, no one was hurt in the incident, which is the third of its kind since the inauguration of the mass transit facility on Aug 13.

TransPeshawar, a government-owned company managing the BRT operations, claims that only two incidents of bus fire had taken place.

Regarding the ‘second’ incident reported on Sept 2, it said it was not a fire and instead, there were ‘some sparks’, which were put out immediately.

A rescue official told Dawn that the Friday fire started in the back of the bus and it was put out within 10-15 minutes.

He said all commuters remained unhurt in the incident.

“Apparently, the fire started in the air-conditioner compartment,” he said.

According to a statement issued by the TransPeshawar here, a BRT bus suddenly caught fire at Gulbahar station.

The company said its rapid response team immediately reached the site and extinguished the fire with the help of others.

It said during the incident, all passengers remained safe and were evacuated from the bus and station on a ‘timely basis’, while the bus service resumed right after the fire was extinguished.

The TransPeshawar said an investigation was being made over the unfortunate and unforeseen incident.

“The bus manufacturing company officials have also reached Peshawar and are inspecting the affected two buses,” it said in the statement.

The company said a team of bus manufacturer was also ‘giving a deep look’ to all buses of Peshawar BRT.

It said the safety of passengers was its top priority and that the investigation into two previous fire incidents were being made in a transparent manner and the report would be shared with the concerns as soon as it was completed.

“The BRT buses are being maintained daily and in order to cater any emergency, situation department has its own rapid response team,” it said.

Videos of the fire shared on social media showed that smoke billowing out from the bus and panicked passengers scurrying out the vehicle.

Peshawar BRT was launched on Aug 13 and within a bus broke down near Gulbahar station, suspending the bus operation for over 30 minutes.

On the night of Aug 26, another bus caught fire on the University Road without anyone being hurt.

The company said the fire started at the battery compartment at the roof of the bus.

On Sept 2, there was fire on another bus owned by the company on Hayatabad feeder route; however, TransPeshawar claimed that it was not fire and only some sparks, which were put down there and then.

When contacted, a spokesperson for the company said it would be premature to say something about the cause of fire.

He, however, said the company was investigating the matter.

The spokesman also said a team of the bus manufacturer was also in the city to look into the fire incident.

This is the pathetic level you dropped to when you have no concept of the bigger pictures of subsidies and make glib statements. Either talk with facts or shut up. You have been humiliated at the success of this BRT, you were praying for failure but instead the success has become a millstone around the necks of losers like you and lifafi and even he has dropped down to the level of tweeting about maintenance issues.

Bro I quoted something to do with "buses catching fires" didn't I? :ba

So based on a couple buses catching fire, you calculated the long term viability of the project. That is amazing insight, I surprised that they haven't made you head of Goldman Sachs. 😂

They may be out of 2 year warranty but surely there is a latent defect period for such a serious issue of fires.?

3 fires since the BRT started in August is not good. Most of the infrastructure looks good from what i have seen, so its disappointing to hear this news on the buses.

Hopefully this was just a serious of bad luck, rather the buses being junk.

Peshawar BRT service temporarily suspended

https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/7...-temporarily-suspended-after-buses-catch-fire

:)))

So after all the bhangra and the hoohaa, the most incompetent government in KP history couldn’t even operate the service for a month before suspending it due to their sheer incompetence.

Very soon, the entire country will become one big BRT.

This is the reality of PTI government. They are only good for shouting expletives from the top of containers.

If something isn't functional then it is better to suspend while figuring out the issue.

Let me guess, if the government of KPK had not suspended then you would have probably be asking, " why haven't KPK government suspended service and protects people"?

The country is doing great, did you check the economy?

The suspension is because a third bus caught fire. They should check if some Noony tunes aren't doing arson.

Its amazing how some people are so adept at cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

Anyone else would be saddened by the fact that country has lost money etc and would be looking for a constructive advice.

Unfortunately hate is a problem in Pakistan.

It's because of these losers that PK has never kicked on. At least we stopped getting the corrupt but competent badniyaati tales after the humiliation of PPP over both covid and terrible, corrupt mismanagement of Karachi.
