So after all the bhangra and the hoohaa, the most incompetent government in KP history couldn’t even operate the service for a month before suspending it due to their sheer incompetence.

Very soon, the entire country will become one big BRT.

This is the reality of PTI government. They are only good for shouting expletives from the top of containers.

So as I said, the service has been suspended temporarily because the buses have been catching fire.

Difference between PTI's doing bhangra against PML-N and PPP is intention. PTI supporters were doing bhangra against intentional corruption that has destroyed Pakistan's economy, infrastructure and ruined many Pakistani lives.

Those who are doing bhangra because a buss caught fire is out of happiness because this happened under PTI. Intention is to see PTI fail.

If KPK government knew it would catch on fire and KPK government ignored it then KPK government should be held responsible.

It was an issue, KPK government suspended the service to resolve an issue, imagined if KPK government had not, then same would not miss an opportunity to score few points on a random forum.

Intention is to see PTI fail, no point in getting in any discussion with such individuals.

If not for these large scale public transport projects, how do you intend for commoners to attend work? Reduce traffic? Reduce pollution?

Look at public transport systems of some of the major cities across the world. Obviously Pakistan won't be able to afford an underground tube system however the overground system is more reasonable and will help alleviate the various city problems.

All you need to do is run a bus on the city road thats it. You dont have to lay seperate tracks as it costs more.

To reduce traffic, make flyovers, the metro track shouls had been flyovers on which both busses and traffic operate.

One or the reasons why the whole pindi and isb isnt over through bus system is because they want to lay tracks.

Look at public transport systems of some of the major cities across the world. Obviously Pakistan won't be able to afford an underground tube system however the overground system is more reasonable and will help alleviate the various city problems.

Public trasnport systems accross other cities just have to make their road more wider and run a bus on that.

Toronto does have a subway for its main downtown areaz but the suburbs have public bus system on the same roads on which cars travel.

Not sure how much experience you have with project management but one of the key areas is called closure of a project. Here the success of project is judged, if its not satisfactory, remedial action is initiated until all stakeholders are happy with it.

The post project analysis for a project of this size should involve lessons learnt type analysis, which will be the case so that issues like this don't happen again.

The BRT was inaugurated by then chief minister of the province Khattak in 2020 and received the award on Thursday for providing passenger-oriented, environment-friendly facilities to the people of Peshawar.

A day earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) hailed ZuPeshawar – the operator of the BRT system – on receiving the international award, saying that Peshawar has now become the first city in the subcontinent, third in Asia and 11th globally to receive the Gold Standard.

The statement issued by the ADB said Dr Walter Hook, a member of the technical committee that evaluates world-class BRTs on the basis of best practices internationally, presented the award to K-P Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash on Thursday.

The Gold Standard was awarded to the city for transforming transport through its clean technology buses, promoting non-motorized traffic, and transporting a staggering 250,000 passengers on daily basis, out of which 20% are women.

Earlier, the BRT had also received the certificate of International Sustainable Award by the International Transport Organisation while the UN Women has also honoured the BRT for providing the best and safe travelling facility to women. The BRT, he added, was providing the best possible commuting facilities to its passengers.

The problem of running buses on normal lanes is that they get held up by traffic and people cant get to work on time. The cost of these projects is huge and the chancers will use them to scam money in cahoots with politicians. I think a project that at least breaks even will be worth its weight in gold and hopefully the BRT will do that.

On some roads you can run busses, and on murree road where the metro of pindi exists, had htey made flyover on it the bus could had operated on it.

Metros in pindi have been just dramaybazi.

Remember, Imran Khan can provide you with infrastructure and busses but he can’t drive the busses himself for you guys.

People of KP should not only take advantage of this facility but work fiercely towards saving it from abuse and miss-use.

The award recognizes BRT’s operator Zu Peshawar’s efforts to improve the lives of many people through innovative solutions. This is the second award in a year that Peshawar BRT has won.

In February, the BRT had received the Gold Standard Service award from the Technical Committee of the BRT Standards in ‘environment-friendly services’ to the people of the provincial capital.

More than 200,000 journeys made daily

According to the criteria for award, the network to which the programme applies should serve 200,000 or more daily journeys. The award takes into account user adoption, duration, sustainability, and any other factors that make the project stand out.

The winners were announced during the 10th annual awards ceremony which took place in London. The Best Ticketing Programme award recognises a public transport authority and their technology partner that have launched a successful smart ticketing programme in the last 2 years.

According to a report, over Rs47 billion were spent without taking approval from the law department. It showed that a consultant was paid over Rs90 million as mobilisation advance. The report also stated that an amount of Rs21.13 million has not been recovered from the contractor yet.

“A suspicious amount of Rs3.6 million was made for petrol despite the suspension of work on BRT,” said the report, adding that the BRT management paid Rs310 million as dues to the contractor and there is no record of it.

It added that about 122 trees were cut down near Dabgari Garden for the project. The trees worth Rs2.4 million were sold for Rs420,000. A Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) employee was illegally hired as a resettlement consultant, who continued to receive salaries from both BRT and PDA, said the report.

“The contractor was paid Rs50 million against rules without completing the construction work,” it added. According to the report, Rs7.3 million received as taxes have not been deposited in the national treasury. It added that a “controversial board” was paid Rs6 million related to the BRT project.

“The delays in the BRT project cost damages worth over Rs20 million while Rs300 million were paid to the consultants despite Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown,” added the report. Director General Peshawar Development Authority Fayaz Ali Shah, while talking to Geo News, said that the audit report is based on preliminary observations and it will be discussed at the relevant forum.
