The Iranian people are not at fault are they? The virus cares not for man made artificial boundaries.

I think the 'we are all human and in this mess together' theory is just a dream.

But will the govn even take their help?

Iran leader refuses US help; cites coronavirus conspiracy theory
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei alleges virus 'is specifically built for Iran using the genetic data of Iranians'.

Accepting direct help from U.S. (America sending testing kiya, medical supplies, etc... to iran) and having U.S lifting sanctions is not the same thing.

Iran would welcome sanctions being lifted as it would mean they could trade with other countries in the world

Or he understands that unless all the countries in the region are able to control covid19, it will continue to spread in the region including in Pakistan.

Also, iran has humans in it too.

Yes so their leaders can take credit, which makes sense.

My issue is even at this time of their need their arrogance remains and yes Trump is heartless as well along with other nations.

And yes sanctions should be lifted regardless, its dangerous to keep em on.

I am not Iranian but if I was, imagine if a country half way across the world overthrew our democratically elected leader and installed a puppet dictator, then supported Saddam against us in a war where we lost many lives, and when we finally overthrew the puppet they installed, they sanctioned us, and tried to cripple our economy. Then they actually labelled us as the bad guys.

Persians are a very old and proud civilization, it's hard for them to bend the knee, even though they could easily do so and improve their economy. In exchange they would give up their independence, would allow another puppet regime to take over which both america and saudi find acceptable.

Do you believe puppets are across the world where western nations have good relations with such countries?

Also wasn’t their last Shah from those proud empires which the Iranians are so arrogant of?

Did they democratically elect their monarchs?

Modern Iran or their constitution was only formed in 1905-08..

I dont believe all nations friendly to U.S. has puppets, however I do believe in every country which decides to oppose the west in anyway even if non violent in nature, for example nationalizing oil industries and kicking out foreign stakes in those companies such as in the case with Mossadegh, these are seen as against national interest of U.S. they deal with these regimes by orchestrating coups or sabotag.

I wasnt referring to the shah, I was referring to mossadegh who was nominated as prime minister by their parliament.

I know whom you are referring to .. and I do agree one shouldn’t trust USA, esp after everything.

But Iranian govn and religious dictators would also do anything to be in power..

What you say about US bad behavior has some truth.

Is is also true that Iranian ruling establishment uses US bad behavior to justify its own existence, and its actions cause great misery to the Iranian common man.

Iran leader refuses US help; cites coronavirus conspiracy theory

Iran's supreme leader refused American assistance to fight the new coronavirus citing a conspiracy theory claiming it could be man-made by the United States government.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments came on Sunday as Iran faces crushing US sanctions blocking the country from selling its crude oil and accessing international financial markets.

While Iranian officials in recent days have increasingly criticised those sanctions, 80-year-old Khamenei instead echoed Chinese officials about the possible origin of the coronavirus.

"I do not know how real this accusation is but when it exists, who in their right mind would trust you to bring them medication?" Khamenei said. "Possibly your medicine is a way to spread the virus more."

He also alleged the virus "is specifically built for Iran using the genetic data of Iranians, which they have obtained through different means".

"You might send people as doctors and therapists, maybe they would want to come here and see the effect of the poison they have produced in person," Khamenei said.

'Be transparent'

There is no scientific proof offered anywhere in the world to support Khamenei's claims.

However, his comments come after Chinese government spokesman Lijian Zhao tweeted earlier this month it "might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!"

Lijian likewise offered no evidence to support his claim, which saw the US State Department summon China's ambassador to complain. A Chinese state newspaper tweeted on Sunday another allegation trying to link the virus to Italy, similarly hard-hit by the outbreak.

Wuhan is the Chinese city where the first cases of the disease were detected in December.

In recent days, the Trump administration has increasingly referred to the virus as the "Chinese" or "Wuhan" virus, while the World Health Organization (WHO) used the term COVID-19 to describe the illness the virus causes.

A US senator from Arkansas has trafficked in the conspiracy theory it was a man-made Chinese bioweapon. Relations with China and the US have been tense under President Donald Trump amid a trade war between the nations.

Ayatollah Khamenei continued to berate the United States. "No one trusts you. You are capable of bringing into our country a drug that will keep the virus alive and prevent its eradication.

"The American leaders are liars, manipulators, impudent and greedy... They are charlatans," he said, also labelling them "absolutely ruthless".

'Improbable'

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.

Scientists have not yet determined exactly how the new coronavirus first infected people. Evidence suggests it originated in bats, which infected another animal that spread it to people at a market in Wuhan. The now-shuttered Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market advertised dozens of species such as giant salamanders, baby crocodiles and raccoon dogs that were often referred to as wildlife, even when they were farmed.

An article published last week in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Nature Medicine dismissed the idea the virus was man-made. Its authors said it was "improbable" that the virus "emerged through laboratory manipulation of a related SARS-CoV-like coronavirus".

Khamenei made the comments in a speech in Tehran broadcast live on Sunday across Iran marking Nowruz, the Persian New Year, and the Islamic commemoration known as Isra and Miraj. He had called off his usual speech at Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad over the virus outbreak.

His comments come as Iran has reported more than 21,600 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus amid 1,685 reported deaths, according to government figures released Sunday. Experts still fear Iran may be underreporting its cases.

'Maximum pressure'

Across the Middle East, Iran represents eight of 10 cases of the virus and those leaving the Islamic Republic have carried it to other countries.

Iranian officials have criticised US offers of aid during the virus crisis as being disingenuous.

They have accused the Trump administration of wanting to capitalise on its "maximum pressure" campaign against Tehran since withdrawing from the nuclear deal in May 2018.

US sanctions have made it more difficult for Iran to access the global market.

On Sunday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan echoed the call on the US to lift its sanctions.

"I want to appeal to President Trump on humanitarian grounds to lift the sanctions against Iran till the COVID-19 pandemic is over," Khan said in a tweet.

"The people of Iran are facing untold suffering as sanctions are crippling Iran's efforts to fight COVID-19. Humanity must unite to fight this pandemic," he said.

Hey Imran, why not also have a word with your pal Xi and ask him and his people to stop nibbling on Anacondas in their free time?

Well done IK for asking for the sanctions to be lifted. It takes some balls to go against the USA and Saudi Arabia

Whole world is reeling under corona, i highly doubt anyone would want a whole race/ nation to suffer with this pandemic even if it's their foe.

Are you sure? We have people within our country praying for proliferation for political purposes, countries are on a different level.

Imran might be a really good person else who will think about a country who presented Pak with corona virus and were not even ready to hold back Pak pilgrims for some time _/\_

Agree, it is the same country that refused to support Pakistani government in any way. They literally dumped and deported all the shia visitors on the Taftan border. Then the same idiots ask USA to lift sanctions rather than focusing on their own country and the same visitors have more loyalty to Iran than Pakistan. These same visitors went to Syria to wage Jehad for Iran. Had it been me, i would not even let them back in Pakistan.

Iranians are extremists just like Saudis and deserve all the phainta they get from the US.

Why should we care about Iran when Iran doesn't want to help itself? Their government are clowns.

I like how Indians are pretending to have any relevance in this thread. It’s cute.

Their relevance is that they don't like Muslims in general, and Pakistan in particular. Then pretend that they put humanity above politics during a natural catastrophe.

Maybe for our own safety, if not for the safety of our fellow human beings.

Just shut border and close all flights.
Ofcourse care about fellow human beings but you cant help someone if they dont want to help themselves! I've seen videos of Iranians licking holy shrines and government doesn't care infact agrees with the ridiculous conspiracy theories.

What Iran need right now is support from the international community. Sanctions don’t help. Period.

U.S. could rethink Iran sanctions in light of coronavirus: Pompeo

U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held out the possibility on Tuesday that the United States may consider easing sanctions on Iran and other nations to help fight the coronavirus epidemic but gave no concrete sign it plans to do so.

The comments reflected a shift in tone by the U.S. State Department, which has come under withering criticism for its hard line toward sanctions relief even in the face of a call by the U.N. secretary-general to ease U.S. economic penalties.

Pompeo stressed that humanitarian supplies are exempt from sanctions Washington reimposed on Tehran after President Donald Trump abandoned Iran’s 2015 multilateral deal to limit its nuclear program.

However, broader U.S. sanctions deter many firms from humanitarian trade with Iran, one of the nations hardest hit by the coronavirus epidemic.

Asked if there might come a point at which Washington might reevaluate its stance on easing sanctions, Pompeo told reporters: “We evaluate all of our policies constantly, so the answer is - would we ever rethink? - Of course.”

Asked about such relief on March 20, Pompeo simply said U.S. sanctions do not apply to medical and other humanitarian goods.

Washington is pursuing a “maximum pressure” policy to try to force Tehran to curb its nuclear, missile and regional activities.

Iran has accused the United States of “medical terror,” prompting Pompeo’s spokeswoman, Morgan Ortagus, on Monday to tweet: “Stop lying. ... It’s not the sanctions. It’s the regime.”

France, Germany and Britain have exported medical goods to Iran in the first transaction under a trade mechanism set up to barter humanitarian goods and food, Germany said.

Jon Alterman, a Middle East analyst at Washington’s CSIS think tank, said Pompeo’s shift in tone might be a response to the European move.

“There is an Iranian effort to peel off Europe ... Holding open the possibility of reconsidering is an effort to keep Europe on side,” he added, though he saw little chance of a U.S. policy shift. “In the current environment, the chances are very low, but the environment keeps changing.”

Pompeo has been sharply criticized for the administration’s stance on Iran sanctions. In recent weeks, the United States has repeatedly tightened sanctions on Iran, notably seeking to make it harder for it to export oil.

“Pompeo appears to view the epidemic as a handy means to compound ‘maximum pressure,’” Washington Post columnist Jackson Diehl wrote on Sunday. “To what end?”

Europe sells medicine to Tehran in first bypass of US sanctions, as Iran grapples with coronavirus outbreak

Seems like the EU don't care about USA's iSoLaTiOn meme.

Plus, it's almost sad listening to the Americans talk about anything "humanitarian".

A bunch of greedy fat *****, the lot of them.

Trump grilled on punishing Iran sanctions amid coronavirus crisis

US president says he would have 'moral responsibility' to assist hard-hit Iran despite devastating American sanctions.

US President Donald Trump said he would have a "moral responsibility" to help Iran in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic if leaders of the country asked for assistance.

However, he said, they had not yet asked.

"Well they haven't even asked us to do that," said Trump, when asked by Al Jazeera correspondent Kimberly Halkett if the United States would consider easing sanctions on Iran in light of the global outbreak.

"If they want to meet, we'd love to meet and we'd settle the whole thing out," he added.

Since 2018, the Trump administration has imposed a policy of "maximum pressure" sanctions against the Tehran after Washington withdrew from the landmark nuclear agreement.

Under the deal - reached between Iran, the US, the European Union, China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and Germany in 2015 - Tehran promised to curtail its nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.

Over the last month, as the virus spread rapidly in Iran, the US repeatedly tightened sanctions designed to choke off Tehran's oil exports.

Last week, the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on 20 Iranian people and companies accused of supporting a Shia militia in Iraq, which is believed to be responsible for attacks on bases where US forces are located.

Iran has been particularly hit hard by the outbreak, which has left governments across the world reeling with more than one million people infected globally and nearly 53,000 deaths.

Tehran has reported nearly 50,500 infections in the country of 81 million, with nearly 3,300 deaths, including several members of the government.

"I put it out very publicly with respect to Iran," Trump said during the Thursday news conference. "I said if they need help with respect to the virus, we'd love to send - we have the greatest medical professionals in the world - we'd love to send them over."

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has refused American assistance to fight coronavirus, suggesting it could be man-made by the US government.

But Iranian officials have demanded the end of crippling American sanctions that have devastated Iran's economy.
Moral responsibility'

The United Nations has repeatedly urged countries to alter their sanctions against several countries in light of the pandemic.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a letter to G20 economic powers in March, said the restrictions should be waived "to ensure access to food, essential health supplies, and COVID-19 medical support".

UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet called for any sanctions imposed on countries such as Iran to be "urgently re-evaluated" to avoid pushing strained medical systems to collapse.

On Thursday, Democratic presidential contender and former US Vice President Joe Biden joined members of Congress in urging Trump to remove sanctions.

Biden said the US had a moral obligation to lift the sanctions, and noted that despite humanitarian exceptions, many countries and aid organisations remain leery of running afoul of the US.

When asked if he felt such a moral obligation, Trump said: "No one's even asked me. I have a moral responsibility to help them if they ask. If they needed help, I would certainly consider different things."

Despite the increased calls for sanctions relief in recent weeks, Trump has continued to ramp up attacks on Iran, claiming on Wednesday that its proxies were planning a "sneak attack" on US targets in neighbouring Iraq.

He tweeted that Tehran would pay a "very heavy price" for any such action, but offered no details.

Trump, in his statements on Thursday, contended the people of Iran "love America, they love what we stand for".

He added: "We're not looking for government takeover, government change. This country's been through that many times. That doesn't work."
'Lost opportunity'

The comments come days after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo initially raised the prospect of easing sanctions on Iran and other nations to help fight the pandemic, without offering any concrete plans to do so.

Pompeo's statements, however, were met with quick rebuke from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

"The United States lost the best opportunity to lift sanctions," Rouhani said. "It was a great opportunity for Americans to apologise ... and to lift the unjust and unfair sanctions on Iran."

"Americans could have used this opportunity and told the Iranian nation that they are not against them," Rouhani said. "Their hostility [towards Iranians] is obvious."

Despite previous comments from Iranian authorities, Rouhani also denied that sanctions had hampered Tehran's response to the outbreak.

Several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, China, the UK, France, Qatar and Turkey, have sent shipments of medical supplies, including gloves and surgical masks, to Iran.

Meanwhile, in the first transaction conducted under a trade mechanism set up to barter humanitarian goods and food after Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal, Germany said on Tuesday France, Germany, and the UK had exported medical goods to Iran.

Iran will give a decisive response to any "mistake" by the U.S. in the Gulf: Revolutionary Guards navy

(Reuters) - Iran will give a decisive response to any mistake by the United States in the Gulf, the Revolutionary Guards navy said in a statement published on the Guards’ news site Sepah News.

The U.S. military said on Wednesday that 11 vessels from the Revolutionary Guards navy had come dangerously close to U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships in the Gulf, calling the moves “dangerous and provocative”.

“We advise the Americans to follow international regulations and maritime protocols in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and to refrain from any adventurism and false and fake stories,” Sunday’s statement from the Guards navy said.

“They should be assured that the Revolutionary Guards navy and the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran sees the dangerous actions of foreigners in the region as a threat to national security and its red line and any error in calculation on their part will receive a decisive response.”
