PM Imran Khan says nurses appeared like ‘hoors’ after painkiller

What is the context? And he is objectifying women who were doing their job. How would you feel if your female family member was working and an old guy at the workplace says something about her?

not a single PTI fan here has been able to answer this question

Casual sexism. Everyone knows fully well what hoors are primarily for. Absolutely no need to equate regular women with them. They are other ways to express you are in heaven.

The PM should be careful with his choice of words. Quite dissapointed, especially with people who are defending this.

Seriously, I don't know why people are trying to defend this stupid statement.

Strange choice of word. Could've used a different word.

But, probably he didn't mean it like that.

You both are trying very hard.

If an old man, sedated heavily on opiates, were to say anything like that then every sensible person would initially laugh at it then ignore it and probably joke about it later, happens all time.

If the person were to tell later how he felt while he was heavily on opiates then any sensible person would also understand it and move on with their life instead of making big fuss out of it. Remember the words were spoken in the context of the story.

By keep bringing in other's mom, sister, wife, and daughter to score some points is truly showing your intentions and class.

I suggest you to immediately stop disrespecting everyone in this thread.

and yet you'll see the same people coming back and spouting the same rubbish like a broken record.
what is disappointing is that some of the sane people here feel they have to criticise IK because of the constant accusations of "IK Cult" being thrown at them by the few morally corrupt posters

So what exactly are you 2 trying to prove? Is the criticism on Imran Khan justified or not?

Just give a simple and straight answer, rather than pointing fingers at other politicians. Thanks

I would advise you to take KK1992's suggestion.

Again trying to avoid the question. Come on, for once be brave and honest in your opinion.

so you feel its ok, to come out in public and make this remark and laugh it off. While someones wife or sister was attending imran khan as a nurse.

When the goal is agenda driven criticism then one can criticize anything and everything.

Like, i have said, you are trying way too hard.

you end up throwing personal insults by saying im showing my class.

Hey, can you please answer in which context was it said?

If you read it slowly and stop trying hard to find a controversy in everything that has to do with PTI then you will see in my reply that I have answered your question.

No need to get work up when someone called you out on your agenda.

ok so now we have become morally corrupt,

but you cant answer the simple question

bhai, imran khan was not sitting in his betak and making jookes with his friends
He made these comments publicaly
so you feel its ok, to come out in public and make this remark and laugh it off. While someones wife or sister was attending imran khan as a nurse.

OH lord. so for you it is totally fine if he were to say the same words in a bhetek but getting out of shape and trying to bring in every female in Pakistan to score point just because he said in public.

what is wrong with you?

There are many other ways to criticize PTI and IK, I can find plenty of ways since PTI government was form.

They are cornered now and usual have no answer to the genuine question abt merit and ability of their Messiah Imran Khan. As usual all they can do is to beat around the bush.

Who are they?

Have you ever asked a question that merit a response?

IK is a human, if he was Messiah then Pakistan would have taken over US. So, i suggest you to stop calling a person a Messiah.

nope for me its not alright, but thats what youa re implying that we shoudl just laugh it off as its some joke by imran

Then that is your opinion and stop trying to impose your opinion by keep bringing in every Pakistani female and keep implying that every PTI supporters disrespect female.

Thats better.
Now Just accept that Imran Khan is a dumb fella, who was recruited to be the frontman by his Masters. As you accepted he is no Messian, not even a properly sane individual.

People take a chillpill. It was obviously a joke. I understand OP is very anti-PTI and Imran Khan, but try to take a joke as a joke.

So what exactly are you 2 trying to prove? Is the criticism on Imran Khan justified or not?

It depends if you believe that IK said those words in a sexual context. Personally I am pretty clear he didn't. People who are determined to find a sexual element are doing so for political purposes, and thus revealing there is no level they won't stoop to.

What context do you think, he said it in?
And is it the first time that he has been a goofy?

What is the context? And he is objectifying women who were doing their job. How would you feel if your female family member was working and an old guy at the workplace says something about her?

If he says that girl looks like a Hoor it wont offend me at all, because he is appraising her in a good manner. he aint calling her a bachi or chikni or hot or sexy e.t.c

but am sure you will be ok with such words. Right? :)

Now i would like to check your IQ level and would like to ask to tell me what Imran actually meant there and whats the context? Now dont go flip flopping, just answer me straight.

What context do you think, he said it in?

He clearly meant like an angel bringing him relief from the pain. Perhaps you can tell us what context you believe he meant it in if you disagree?

Hoor is not the right word for that. It's either farishtas or apsaras. Hoor is for beautiful women. Stop it with your blind fan following

May be thats down to your lack of understanding of the Urdu language but the word for Angel is Farishta. Hoor has a different meaning and connotation. He was obviously objectifying women (by unconsciously belittling the ordinary hospital nurses).

You may have a misconception that Imran lived in England for too long and doesnt have good command of Urdu but that’s not the case, he grew up in Pakistan and spent most of life there (other than few spells in UK for county cricket and during Univ). He surely has a good command of Urdu.

May be he was just careless with his choice of words but that itself shows what kind of Women objectifying mentality he has AND he has no awareness of what he is saying to whom. This is not the first time he showed his goofiness, there are many more examples out there.

So IK has mentality to objectifying female just because he used Hoor instead of Farishta? got it.

Yes hoor is used for beautiful women.

Imagine, a person heavily sedated, calling a female beautiful.

Then telling it about it in large gathering.

Probably one of the biggest crime for liberals as long as it came out of IK mouth.

Ok, what about these pearls of wisdom from Khan saab:
- Germany and Japan are neighbors
- Sukoon sirif Qabar meh hai
- Mera tou khud apni Tankhwa meh guzara nahee hota
- Nawaz k jail k Kamray se AC nikalwaoon ga.
- More examples like these...

Is that what we should expect from PM of the country?

Ofcourse these are not crimes of highest order but show Imran Khan’s mental calibre.

This is the real context. Not the angel straw-clutching.

This thread has yet again proved something we already knew - Imran supporters will defend everything.

Some people will walk into hell if Imran tells them to. They have lost the capacity and intelligence to think for themselves.

After all, that is what brainwashing does to you.

Walk in hell just because IK said so? lol.

This is getting entertaining.

Why do you sound desperate in every thread when you are forced to criticize anything that has to do with IK.

Desperation has taken over your thinking capability that even when ther is a valid criticism it seems forced from you.

I wonder that these Pakistanis who are even living abroad have a lot of free time wasting away - I thought that was the case with Pakistanis living in Pakistan. Old habits are die hard.

Considering the fact that he has been a womanizer (most Pakistani men would like to be in his shoes however he is a God chosen in terms of looks and appeal). His choice of words is correct that nurse still indeed looks like a hoor. It is all about customers perspective in service marketing:) Customer is always KING :)

As I have said before, he can kill a child on live tv and his loyalists will defend him and clutch at straws for “context” and they will give examples of so and so politicians who have also made similar comments.

There is no context here - he clearly implied that the nurses looked prettier than they actually were when he was given morphine.

A pathetic comment and people should not be justifying or defending it, but I guess you cannot expect sanity from PTI supporters.

Imran’s tragedy is that for all the Aitchison and Oxford education, the only woman he learned to respect in life was his mother.

He’s all ways been a play boy womaniser. Even at this stage in his life marrying much younger women with saucy history.

Imran Khan is the pakistani version of finals trump. Both are like the Pied Piper. Their followers, Follow blindly. Keep dancing

127 posts on a joke which at worst could be described as "bad taste".

Shows how much frustrated are some people.

Also CricketDon blind support or hatred is pretty much same disease.

So what is wrong with describing a woman as beautiful?

But he didn’t call them beautiful.

He said they only appeared beautiful because he was high on morphine.

A crass comment but expected because it is one of his personality traits.

I don't think he said it seriously. Handsome men are prone to believing they are God's gift to women, and there was a time when IK was known for the company of women. He has turned to God and is a pious man now, but during humour he may be prone to going back to his youthful insouciance.

Hoors are beautiful, voluptous, wide eyed, virgins who will serve as the sexual partners of the believers in Paradise. They are different from the angels who will be appointed for the comfort of the believers.

And while I am fairly certain that IK had no intention of hinting at sexual pleasure it is the fact that is so normal to throw around such words casually for women and be considered ok. He is the Prime Minister of the country and should be using more appropriate vocabulary especially when women are involved and anybody denying that is unaware of public speaking ettiquetes.

This is the crux of the issue I feel. You yourself admit that IK had no intention of hinting at sexual pleasure, so at worst it was a slip of the tongue - assuming your version of the term hoor is in fact an accurate translation.

Those who are harping on about the sexuality issue are only showing their own fixation at best, or using it for political point scoring at worst. Has any nurse come forward and complained?

This is not my version. Each one of these adjectives is used in the Quran to describe hoors. You may search up on ayahs on hoors if you wish to confirm.

And why would any nurse come forward to complain. He has not specifically targeted or harrassed any particular nurse and for anyone to claim this without a victim's narration or other proof, would be a huge and terrible accusation.

He has however, generally equated nurses to hoors who serve a specific purpose, which is certainly not pain relief. And to normalize such inappropriate terminlogies to refer to regular women,is the root of casual sexism and in a world where women are routinely objectified already we can ill afford to provide more role models for this behavior and is therefore not befitting for anyone, let alone a PM.

Therefore it is important for IK to control his tongue slips which are happening more frequently or otherwise it will be hard to find ways to excuse them.

Mountain out of a molehill. Pakistan is generally far behind the rest of the world when it comes to women's rights, compounded by the faith of the general population which does not agree with western sentiments about many such issues to start with.

You talk about casual sexism, let me ask you: do you think even 20% of the Pakistani population would even know what sexism is? There are far bigger issues to address for women's rights than a harmless slip of the tongue by IK about hoors. This is just point scoring exercise for online politic wannabes.

It is only because of Imran's good reputation and knowing he would not stoop to such remarks are we thinking it is just a slip of the tongue ( I think so too). If seen in isolation, this is offensive: imagine someone saying this about a person you know: that she started looking like a hoor after he took the injection. Would you think, oh, he is just calling her beautiful, nothing to see here.

It can be seen as offensive perhaps depending on where you are coming from. Maybe in the west it might have been laughed off a few years ago, these days perhaps not. But of course Imran is not in the west, we are talking about Pakistan.

So I believe two types of people may find it offensive in Pakistan.

1.Liberals who associate more with western principles than Pakistani ones.
2. Mullahs who would probably argue that even in his dreams Imran Khan should only see nurses wearing a burka.

For the rest, probably not a big issue.

It is precisely this mindset that allows sexism to fester. If this is not nipped in the bud and men are continued to be given leverage in what they say it leads to objectification and disrespect of women eventually. You say 20%? I say 70% dont realize what sexism and casual sexism entails and that is because people like you raise a hue and cry when people object towards sexist statements by other people in the society even if its unconsciously done. If you do not allow awareness to spread how do you expect people to know.

And if these statements allow wannabe politics and haters to criticize IK, he must know that he is the one allowing them to do so. He needs to stop being careless and not make ridiculous statements for a few laughs because he is not lounging in a friend's drawing room. It is offensive, unethical and innapropriate on a public platform where majority is already low in their respect towards women, and if you think liberals are making a mountain out of a molehill you are probably suffering from deep rooted misogyny yourself.

My God 142 posts for that light humour compliment, people are offended with this. If you have something negative in your mind obviously you will see the world negatively, try to see things in a positive way,you will feel happy, logo k pas ider aata nai hai and people are discussing this.

Use that brain you were blessed with :)

The only solution is that Imran must apologize for this kind of statement and he should be careful next time.
