How different is Mirpuri from Hindko and Potohari/Pahari.

They all sound the same to me.

All I know is what those from Kotli in Luton speak exactly the same accent and language as those in Mirpur. Kotli lingo is often called Pahari and Mirpur Murpuri.

In Gujar Khan/Bewal/Kallar/Motore etc they speak exactly the same as those I know from Murree they call the Murree lingo Pahari too.

Hindko spoken in Attock is very similar to the Sikh lingo but a cleaner accent and a few different words.

No doubt it would but my Urdu is limited because I only get to listen to it and never actually get a chance to speak it. And the whole family speaks pothwari bar the kids, who understand it but lack the confidence to speak it and quickly revert back to English. I see it as one of my biggest failures as a father.

In the practical sense you are right but if they don't speak Pothwari they lose a big part of their heritage. There are many goods things about the British culture but we also have many good things about ours and from my experience at school if they don't speak their mother tongue, they become too gorified and end up with little or no identity. I want them to get the best of both cultures.

lol, it works both ways, i speak virtually native level urdu, but i still get called a coconut by some desis. fwiw if u want ur kids to stay in touch with pothwari, urdu, best way is songs and then poetry, thats how i kept my skills up even tho i aint been to pak in ten years.

The best thing that could help me and them is more frequent visits to PK-My problem is that I have no relatives in PK bar some very distant uncles. This makes it difficult to send them over. Last year I had planned to go and couldn't get the return dates to what I needed and then an opportunity rose to go to Hajj and I went to Hajj. This year I planned to send the kids during Easter with my uncle and the CV appeared.

Can anyone tell me if pothwari and pahari are the same languages. My family is from poonch in azad Kashmir and we have always spoken pahari. I didnt even know what pothwari was until I met some kids from the kotli area. The way they speak is different than our dialect and sounds more punjabi to me but I'm thinking they are the same language but some of the words they use are not even in our dialect at all.
