(Karachi) The Central Executive Committee (CEC) session of the Pakistan People’s Party has decided that its party members will only resign from the assemblies on a condition that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif comes back and become part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s campaign against the government, local media reported on Tuesday.

The decision has been taken in PPP’s CEC meeting which was chaired by party Co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto in Karachi.

The CEC session decided that discussions can be held over submitting resignations and long march only if Nawaz Sharif comes back from London and be part of their anti-government movement.

The party’s executive committee decided that it will take part in all elections, including the Senate and general polls and will not take dictation from anyone.

The PPP leaders observed that in case of submitting resignations, the government could erase the 18th Amendment of the Constitution and annul other democratic laws.

The CEC meeting also took into consideration the fact that resignations from assemblies could not hinder the upcoming Senate elections. The PPP also decided to launch a contact campaign with the peasants, lawyers, traders and doctors organizations.

The PPP leaders also showed resentment over Pakistan Democratic (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s absence in Larkana on the occasion to commemorate the 13th death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal said: “We could have oust the government during the budget session of the parliament when scores of the PTI members and allies turned against Imran Khan.”

“We have made the PDM and will lead it ahead with consensus,” Bilawal Bhutto said.

This is hilarious :)) His mother's death couldn't bring the rat back so he will never be back

I hate AZ with all my being, but this is just brilliant. This makes NS even more of a loser as AZ trolls him for all those years in jail.

Yup. I've heard lot of media in Pakistan say that AZ has already got a deal hence why his name isn't on any cases or they're frozen. In return for an end to take part in PDM boycotts and other nonsense. Bilawal also met SS and the latter apparently bashed Maryam and said he has told his brother (Nawaz) many times that his rhetoric is not the same as SS.

All these corrupt looters deep down know their time is up and any fair elections they will be wiped out even more.

Zardari and PPP just competed their revenge against the Sharif family got the heir to the PMLN shout PPP zindabad and now have kicked them to the kerb. PPP see that they can only come in power when they become the alternate choice against Pti otherwise as if pmln is in the picture they are out of the running in Punjab.

If AZ gets any sort of deal- it will be mistake of historical proportions. IK has to hold his nerve and deal with all these haraamis. If he is doing what AZ did to the Nooras, then thats fine but AZ and the crooked PPP have to be destroyed

I agree completely. I think IK is doing it the clever way, he can't take them all at once but once PMLN is gone I'm sure AZ is next regardless of whatever deals are happening now. PPP is already dead beyond Sindh so they know if Sindh goes it's all over.

What IK does need to do is groom a successor because after him I can guarantee Bilawal will squirm his way thru. His 'story' and his English speaks well to the masters abroad in US and UK.

The problem is not that just political parties are corrupt but that a large portion of the people in power are corrupt be it judiciary, police, bureaucrats and Industrialists so IK has to thread it through a needle to achieve anything. As IK gives a **** about Pakistan unlike the others any army general will have hard time convincing the core commanders and the rank and file to support a coup I hope these corrupt families do not ever come back in power as I feel as long as they are kept out our democracy might actually start working. As otherwise a power hungry general might get an excuse to stage a coup.

Apparently Imran Khan told the speaker to accept any resignations within minutes of them being received and that as soon PTI have a majority they will go after the 18th amendment (which is a lifeline for PPP). Apparently after hearing this Zardari told his party he remembers PMLN always using PPP as their shield and then running away when it came to supporting them and he also remembers the jail terms Nawaz put him through. Bhutto was one of the worst things to happen to us but he never ran away like a coward like Nawaz. PPP has made some deals apparently to delay/stop/freeze their cases and agreed to continue their protests but within limits and within the norms of Pakistani politics instead of treasonous politics on display by Maryam and her party. Diesel's been shunned too after half of his own party broke away.

It has been a masterstroke by Imran, I am 100% sure after PMLN is done and dusted he will go after PPP.

IK has to go after the PPP because the mafia has many elements- Nooras, PPP MR, LHC,GEO etc. Each has to be destroyed or we will go nowhere. As a short strategy it has split the crooks but if the PPP have a free run to steal from Sindh then that is badniyaati. Those people have suffered enough

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: PML-N lawmakers have refused to validate their resignations, sources informed Geo News on Wednesday, in what comes as a major twist in the Opposition-led anti-government campaign under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) banner.

Appearing at the National Assembly Secretariat, MNAs Murtaza Javed Abbasi and Muhammad Sajjad Awan said their resignation letters were fake and refused to validate them, the sources said.

"We had sent our resignations to the [PML-N] leadership but don't know how they ended up in the National Assembly," the lawmakers said, before submitting a written statement to the NA Speaker's office.

Two days ago, MNA Awan had caused some tensions within the party by refuting the NA Speaker Asad Qaiser's statement about receiving his resignation.

"I never sent my resignation to the [NA] speaker, so where did he [Qaiser] get it from," he had asked.

Explaining his comment, Awan had said his resignation letter was in his possession and was never sent to the NA speaker. "My seat [in the National Assembly] has been entrusted to me by my party," he had said.

"When the PML-N asks for my resignation, only then will I submit it," the lawmaker had clarified, adding that the Opposition's move would make a significant difference as the government would not be able to operate after receiving a large number of resignations from assembly members.

At that time, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb had also denied submitting the resignations directly to Qaiser — who belongs to the ruling PTI — and said Abbasi and Awan had sent them to the party's provincial president.

Maryam tells MNAs to throw resignations in NA Speaker's face
Two days prior to the controversy, PML-N Vice President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, had spoken of the "mischief" under which the aforementioned lawmakers' resignations had reached Qaiser after which both were summoned to verify their legitimacy.

"The two are towering figures when it comes to loyalty," she said, naming Abbasi and Awan. They must "throw them in the speaker's face" and demand that he accept them, she had added.

Maryam had said the PML-N's political workers were not like those from PTI, who had resigned during Nawaz Sharif's premiership but "when they were called by the speaker to verify they have resigned, they said they had been forced by Imran Khan".

PM tells NA Speaker to accept resignations
Moreover, a day prior, Dawn had reported citing sources that the federal Cabinet had advised the NA speaker to accept the Opposition lawmakers' resignations.

Quoting a participant of the federal Cabinet's meeting, the publication had reported that it was aimed at sending a clear message to the Opposition-led Pakistan Democratic Movement that the PTI regime would not succumb to “pressure tactics”.

PM Imran Khan “asked National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar to accept resignations, as and when they come,” the source told the publication, adding that the premier was quoted as saying the PTI government would "never succumb to any pressure of the opposition seeking NRO", referring to the National Reconciliation Ordinance.

Absolute humiliation for Maryam. Any leader with ghairat would kick them out within a day but this besharam lady will carry on as if nothing happened

NS and his daughter are dying a very public political death. A new PML will emerge under SS.

The failure of PML-N and JUI and PPP now only a regional party means that PTI has an open goal when it comes to the next General election. Keep their nose clean, deliver on economic recovery and improve governance. PDM is the greatest gift the opposition could have given to PTI.

And all the TTs will suddenly disappear? Billions were in his account and he couldnt explain any of them.

Despite our wishful thinking, corruption is so deeply embedded in our culture and society that we will have to live with and work with people like SS for the time being. The cancer of corruption is so deeply embedded in the nation’s body that democracy ( best but slow medicine) will take time to take effect. a clean cut revolutionary approach is not only difficult but dangerous for an immature nation like Pakistan.

Imran has started the fight against corruption but it will take many generations to achieve the stated objective. Imran needs to establish the system of checks and balances and separation of powers to ensure that even after he has gone the movement to clean the nation of corruption stays on track.

I agree. Esp with the second paragraph, because PTI = Imran Khan. The moment he leaves things will go back to normal, I am sure of that. PTI still has a lot of people who would be ruthless if it wasn't IK keeping them in line. Qureshi eg is not corrupt but if Imran Khan wasn't there people like him would have no real interest towards the nation compared to the power they'd get. IK needs to stay for 10-15 years. Anything less and things will go back to normal.

Very good points. PTI needs a democratic process to determine its leadership based on defined rules and process. These need to be documented and approved by the senior governance committee (if not so already). IK should within his political lifetime step back and allow the process to select a new party leader with his blessings and support.

ISLAMABAD: The heads of the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will go into a huddle on the first day of the year 2021 (today) at Raiwind in an effort to come up with a united stance on the issue of en masse resignations and participation in the upcoming elections on a number of seats of the national and provincial assemblies and the Senate.

PDM president and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz, after their late-night meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday, had announced that they wanted to provide an opportunity to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to present his viewpoint on the issues of resignations and participation in the coming elections after which they would try to develop a consensus.

PML-N’s supremo Nawaz Sharif had also participated in the meeting of the PML-N and the JUI-F leaders via a video link from London in which the leaders of the two parties discussed various options in the wake of the PPP’s reluctance over the proposal of en masse resignations as part of their anti-government campaign.

According to the Maulana, the PDM leaders in their meeting on Friday (today) would make “final decisions” on key issues and devise the future course of action.

“We will like to directly hear from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Let’s see what he presents before the PDM,” said Ms Nawaz in response to a question during the brief media chat with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Issues of resignations, by-polls on assembly seats and Senate elections on top of agenda

Both the Maulana and Ms Nawaz welcomed Mr Bhutto-Zardari’s announcement that all the future decisions would be made collectively from the PDM platform and termed it a “positive attitude”.

Responding to a question, Ms Nawaz said that so far her party had made no decision regarding participation in the by-elections and the Senate polls. She said whatever decision they would make in this regard, it would be from the PDM’s platform.

Speaking at a news conference after presiding over a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee in Karachi on Dec 29, the PPP chairman had stated that the CEC believed “that if we (joint opposition) take up the challenge of Senate elections collectively we can make a better impact and achieve larger success.”

He had said that he would take up the CEC’s decisions before the PDM leadership and discuss a further plan of the opposition’s movement against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government.

An interesting point came up during the PPP chairman’s presser when he was asked about the details of the discussion and opinions of the party leaders at the CEC meeting but he avoided to give details.

Asked about the “strong opinion” within the PPP for return of the PML-N supremo to the country, Mr Bhutto-Zardari preferred to move on to the next question.

Sources said that PML-N’s supreme leader would also address the PDM leaders through a video link from London on Friday. According to an official announcement, Mr Bhutto-Zardari and former president Asif Zardari would also attend the meeting via a video link from Karachi. However, a party delegation comprising former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Farhatullah Babar will attend the PDM’s meeting at Raiwind.

Political experts are terming the PDM’s meeting as significant as it is happening after the PPP’s CEC meeting in which the party had decided to take part in the by-polls on the vacant national and provincial assemblies seats and the Senate whereas the other component parties of the PDM, including the JUI-F and the PML-N, are of the view that they should not provide any legitimacy to the present legislatures which they have announced they will leave.

The first phase of the PDM’s anti-government movement had come to an abrupt end with the public meeting in Lahore on Dec 13 as the leadership had failed to announce any future plan to intensify their campaign. Though, the PDM leaders had declared they would make an announcement regarding district-wise protests, shutterdown and wheel-jam strikes and the long march during the Lahore public meeting, no such plan was announced from the stage.

Later, the PDM leaders set Jan 31 deadline for Prime Minister Imran Khan to resign or face a decisive long march to Islamabad sometime in February.

It was after a meeting of the heads of the constituent parties of the PDM in Islamabad on Dec 8 that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had announced that all the national and provincial lawmakers belonging to the opposition would hand over their resignations individually to the heads of their parties by Dec 31.

The Maulana had announced the decision during a press talk after presiding over a more than four-hour-long summit of the alliance which was also addressed by Mr Sharif and former president Zardari through video link from London and Karachi, respectively.

The PDM leadership, however, had failed to come up with an agreed plan regarding the use of their most lethal weapon of en masse resignations and its timing and Maulana Fazl simply announced that the steering committee of the PDM would meet in Islamabad the next day “to decide the schedule for further rallies and demonstrations and the date for long march towards Islamabad”.

The next day, however, before the meeting of the steering committee could take place, the PDM leaders once again gathered at the residence of the Maulana for a luncheon meeting after which Mr Bhutto-Zardari categorically declared that his party would come out with a final decision regarding en masse resignations after discussing it at its CEC.

Sources in the PDM said that the PPP leaders during the meeting were not very enthusiastic to the proposed move and Mr Zardari was not in favour of Mr Sharif’s proposal to hand over the resignations to Maulana Fazl for future use and it was on his proposal that finally other parties agreed on the PPP’s suggestion that the resignations should be collected by the party heads.

True but he's their supporter so wouldn't lie about this I don't think. Arif Bhatti I think also said the same my point was they try to call IK a u-turn and yet these morons can't even decide on a concrete coherent policy :))

Wonder what will happen then. There's always rumors about him going to the gulf but many say despite our dip in relations with them they wouldn't take him in as that'd be a clear provocation. It'd be funny if he came back and PPP were put on the spot

Was watching Malick's show he says at their meeting today PPP clearly said they won't resign and nor would they step back from senate elections. And both parties got to an understanding to step back from their useless deadlines to the governments.

These morons are the definitions of u-turns.

Just look at this excerpt from Najam Sethi’s latest article:

A “strategy” for ousting Imran Khan has now been proposed by Asif Zardari. It says Pakistan Democratic Movement should collect resignations of its MNAs and MPAs and hold them until further notice. But it should wait for a propitious moment to announce when it intends to submit them to the Speaker of the National Assembly. Instead the PDM should contest the Senate elections in March (so that the government cannot consolidate its power) even as it keeps the pot boiling on the streets and pressurizing the Generals to ditch Imran Khan. After that, it should weigh the pros and cons of a long march on Islamabad to submit resignations and deepen the crisis. Should the government try to hold by-elections, the PDM should actively thwart them by various means, including jalsas, street protests, strikes, sit-ins and gheraos. Given the level of militancy among JUI and PMLN cadres, this shouldn’t be too difficult even if more arrests are ordered. So long as acute political instability and uncertainty exist, the government will be incapacitated from reviving the economy and alleviating the hardship of the people. This will put the Miltablishment under greater pressure because rising national security budgets in a hostile neighbourhood depend on a growing and vibrant economy.
