Let me preface this by saying that Pakistan have a Test attack that's barely average . But the truth is that the spinners are absolutely horrible and worse than minnow spinners and so PAK are better off playing 4 quicks. My XI would be

Abdullah
Saim
Shan
Bobby
Saud
Agha
Rizzy
Wasim Jnr.
Hasan
SSA
Khurram

It's the only team that can hope for a respectable loss instead of the usual merciless thrashing at the hands of OZ

lol he was MOS in last full series vs NZ.Fumbling some chances in practice match doesn’t mean he shouldn’t play .

His job is to keep Lol

If he misses some important chance in this series then who will be to blame?

But yes he will play.

People are still thinking of the WACA where Ambrose took 7 for 1. That all changed. The curator started using drop in pitches. Even for pak series it is going to be a drop in pitch. They have killed the nature of the pitch. Australian side has issues of their own in challenging conditions.

Ofcourse it is . IF he misses is different question but saying because he is senior he is playing is rubbish comment . He has earned his place back he was sitting on bench for 3 years .

Why did the Aussies do away with the WACA? Did they rename WACA as the Optus Cricket Stadium? WACA has a legacy of its own

Yes he should just drop anything comes his way. I want sarfraz to play this series so his career could be ended for good

We couldn't chase 130 vs Zimbabwe at Perth in the T20 World Cup last year, we play on the lowest bouncing pitches in the world, so how we're making 300 at Perth ? We haven't bowled Australia out in an innings in 5 of the last 7 occasions Down Under. Can't bowl out PM's XI. Our only Test proven pacer is currently off-colour.

Think UN and Human Rights Watch need to monitor this match.

And then we beat New Zealand and reached the finals of that same tournament.

Abrar's injury is a blessing in disguise. He was only ever going to be expensive at Perth so this gives us an opportunity to play the five seamers and keep Abrar under wraps for the two CGs.

That said, there is no way Shan was leaving out a spinner unless he had to and there is still a chance, they would play Noman but we'll see.

1) Abdullah
2) Imam
3) Shan
4) Babar
5) Saud
6) Sarfaraz
7) Faheem
8) Shaheen
9) Hasan
10) Khurrum
11) Mir

Plenty of passengers but also several world-class, future greats so I'm excited.

Keyboard warrior wants won’t hamper a hard working individual .
He's 36 years old. Even if he transforms into prime-Gilchrist for this series, he's not playing for Pakistan in 2024.

Rizwan is far better at everything presently and Haris is the future.

No it is a new stadium currently called perth stadium. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. They are installing drop in pitches anyway for this series. WaCA is being renovated as I heard.

This is a good team.

I personally would add Noman Ali instead of Hassan or Khurram.

Our bowling attack is so pathetic that whatever we choose it still remains junk, bowlers are in for a hiding hopefully our batters will rack up runs to give them a breather. Team combination should focus on experienced players because ability wise in the bowling not much to diffrentiate.

Shafiq
Imam
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfraz
Faheem
SSA
Hasan
Nauman
WasimJR.

With Abrar out, we shouldn't play a spinner at Perth

5 seamers with Saud and Babar to roll there arm over when needed. Hope you win the toss and bowl first. Hopefully noman doesn't play

Abdullah
Imam
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfraz
Faheem
Wasim Jr
Hasan
Shaheen
Khurram

Need to tell wasim Jr, Hasan and Shaheen to try and score 60-70 as a pair

This is a good team.

Waste of space. A faster bowler will keep others fresh. Noman will get 0-fer or a very expensive 2-fer at best

Besides wickets, economy will be a big issue. When Pakistan lose the plot, they easily serve up 2 boundary balls per over without any hesitation.

Keep it simple and take your chances

5 pacers is nuts. Too easy for Australia

You need 1 spinner regardless
Why? I think Lyon is the only spinner to have success on this pitch.

You can’t pre-empt failure. You are better off having a spinner instead of having none and regretting it later

In Australia, we've regretted picking a spinner more far too many times. Ajmal, Shah and Kaneria, all better bowlers than Noman have gotten thrashed by the Australians.

Besides, we have plenty of part-time spinners.

If Abrar is injured they should go with this bowling line up

Abdullah
Imaam
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfraz
Agha
Fahim
Wasim Jnr
Shaheen

I just stated a fact. No need to get personal. It's a fact rizwan will replace sarfraz. It's better to accept the reality. Rizwan is Pakistan greatest wk by a mile.

Abrar is out. Nouman would be a liability. Australia will play 4 left handlers in the top 7. I would play Salman and use his off spin. My team would be:

Abdullah
Imam
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfaraz
Salman
Faheem
Hasan
Shaheen
Khurram/Hamza

I actually think Nauman would be a better option than Abrar in Australia because he is slower through the air. In Australia, the fastish, flattish spinners like Kumble and Yasir Shah have never been successful. The only time Kumble actually bowled well in the 2007 tour, he bowled a lot slower and gave the ball more air. Not saying that Nauman would necessarily succeed but his style of bowling is better suited to Australian pitches.

I would go with:

Abdullah
Rizwan
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfaraz
Faheem
Nauman
Shaheen
Hasan
Wasim jnr

This should be a contest for the ages, or should've been at Waca, when the two quickest attacks duel.

Fully expect Pak to crumble per usual but stranger things have happened Down Under for Dezi sides

lol he was MOS in last full series vs NZ.Fumbling some chances in practice match doesn’t mean he shouldn’t play .
Except Mos doesn't state how many catches he dropped, especially off Williamson who went on to make 200.

On Australian pitches you need to take even half chances, if a player can't do his first job correctly he shouldn't be picked.

Abdullah
Imam (give him one more game as throwing ayub into the fire would be insane)
Shan
Babar
Saud
Sarfaraz/ rizwan
Faheem
Jamal
Shaheen
Hasan
Wasim jnr/ Hamza

Go heavy on the all rounders and Pacers. Going with a standard lineup hasn't worked for Pakistan in almost 3 decades now.

Which ever team is chosen will be very average and they are up against a team that treats us with contempt because we play with fear and trepidation. Our top order is decent but the lower order is amongst the weakest in the World. SSA must not be cowed by Warner when he attacks and stick to his basics. History shows that it will be a 3-0 drubbing so lets play positively and attack.

Pakistan has nothing to lose, go out there with a positive attitude and prove people wrong

In his preview of the upcoming 1st Test, @Saj discusses the following points:

  1. Can Pakistan challenge the formidable Australian side in their home conditions?
  2. Pakistan's key players against Australia.
  3. The importance of Pakistan's top 4 in a testing environment.
  4. Experienced players have to be utilised in Australia
  5. Should Mohammad Rizwan play in the 1st Test?
  6. Can Pakistan's bowlers take 20 wickets?
  7. A big series for Shaheen Shah Afridi
  8. Can Babar Azam lift his team without the pressure of captaincy?
  9. What should the starting XI look like for the 1st Test?

Another thing that Australia is good at against Pakistan posting big individual scores. Last 10 years 27 times an Aussie has crossed 150 iat home. 6 against West Indies. 6 against Pakistan (in just 5 tests).

Pakistan will get some mauling. The question is, are they mentally strong enough to get back in the game? Will the domestic champs in Mir Hamza etc. be able to bowl that consistent line and length when Warner is hitting out?

In Australia mental strength is key. If you can't take it, you won't be able to give it back.

Abrar Ahmed ruled out of first Test: Sajid khan called as a backup

Perth, 10 December 2023: Abrar Ahmed has been ruled out of the first Test match against Australia starting in Perth from 14 December. During the first- class game against the Prime Minister XI, Abrar left the field of play due to severe pain in his right leg around his knee.

During an assessment by the medical team, a provisional diagnosis was made - justifying an MRI scan, which was done on the same day.

Abrar will undergo an intervention in Perth on Monday, after which conservative rehabilitation under the supervision of the team’s medical staff, will continue his road to recovery.

He has not been ruled out of the test series yet, but keeping the player’s wellbeing in mind for this and future tours, further assessment before the second test will ascertain his availability on this tour.

Meanwhile, chairman of the selection committee Wahab Riaz on the request made by the team management has approved the name of off-spinner Sajid Khan. Sajid will travel to Perth once his travel arrangement is finalised.

Why did the Aussies do away with the WACA? Did they rename WACA as the Optus Cricket Stadium? WACA has a legacy of its own
The WACA was in terrible condition. Optus Stadium is a completely different multipurpose stadium.

I think the plan was to redevelop the WACA and host test matches against garbage teams like WI, BD, SRL, PAK and leave the Optus for bigger test matches and limited over games.

Would be interested to see the crowd numbers. They’ve been dwindling the last couple of years and we’re a garbage team that won’t have huge local support like India.

It’s the oldest Australian team to ever play Test cricket - the youngest player is 29.

They are there for the taking - I just don’t think Pakistan will take 20 wickets unless Shaheen improves massively.

Fresh off a stunning tournament in India in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, Travis Head is eyeing a permanent place in Australia T20I squad over a soon-to-be-vacant spot in the Test line-up.

There will be a David Warner-sized hole for Australia to fill after the three-match ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan starting this week, but World Cup hero Head clarified that he is not one of the few competing for that spot.

"[Selectors and team are] happy with me in the middle order," he told the media before the Perth Test set to begin on Thursday.

"I think it's a specialist job. The guys that have been waiting to get into the team for a while deserve the first crack at it.

"But the conversations are ongoing with everyone...only one for me is [taking the opening role] the subcontinent. I don't see myself moving around too much in the future."

Head coach Andrew McDonald stated that the likes of Matthew Renshaw, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft are all in consideration to take the opening slot once Warner retires, but isn't ruling out a left-field option like Cameron Green.

Head, meanwhile, is focused on nailing the middle-order role while also having another eye on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup next year.

The left-hander isn't yet permanent in the T20I squad and recently stayed back after the Cricket World Cup in India to play the final three matches of the bilateral T20Is, rather than flying home to play the Sheffield Shield.

"I'm not a lock for that T20 World Cup, so I wanted to present and try to perform and try and get myself in that team. We felt like that was the greater opportunity to play the three T20s," Head said.

"We haven't got many T20 opportunities coming up over the next little bit, so it was sort of that last chance to press my claims to make sure that I'm in the mix."

For me the team is

Abdullah
Imam
Shan
Babar
Rizwan
Sarfraz (wk)
Faheem / wasim jnr
Shaheen
Nauman ali
Khurram
Mir hamza

ideally sarfraz shouldn't play and saud or agha should play with rizwan dropping down at 6 and keeping wickets.
But sarfraz and his media backers are very noisy so play him he will either have to put up and perform with gloves and bat or if he fails and gets discarded then do the honourable thing and retire and shut up.

In Australia u need 5 bowlers that's why I've but 5 bowling options in the team. Workloads need managing carefully hence the 5 options , shaheen isn't 100% after injury so last thing you want is overloading him more bowling longer spells.

Why Imam? What has he ever done in tests?

Pakistan Off-spinner Sajid Khan has received a visa to Australia and is leaving Karachi tonight for Dubai from where he will fly to Australia. He will arrive in Perth tomorrow.

Why Imam? What has he ever done in tests?

Because Abdullah and imam are the openers that have been picked , shan isn't going to open.

For the likes of imam and sarfraz this is the make or break , if they fail they will be made the scapegoats and axed.

The captain a product of corruption and nepotism isn't going no where plus he speaks English and has a degree.

But I don't see imam , sarfraz doing anything, imam is going to get a lot of bodyline deliveries but I'm more worried about sarfraz behind the stumps fluffing catches our bowling is pretty mediocre as it is, and dropped catches will make it worse.

Visa and passport issues have left the national senior cricket team in Australia without a doctor and the under-19 side in the UAE without a team manager. Sohail Saleem, who was named as the official team doctor for the series in Australia and New Zealand, is yet to join the team. “The Pakistan Cricket Board is still trying to get a visa for Dr Saleem and as soon as it comes he will join the side in Australia in time for the first Test in Perth,” a reliable source in the PCB said.

He said similarly former Test batsman, Shoaib Muhammad, who was named manager of the Pakistan junior side taking part in the Asia Cup in UAE, has also been unable to leave with the squad.

"Shoaib had some expired passport issues which the board is sorting out and hopefully he will also soon reach UAE to take charge,” the source said.

Ironically even the off-spinner, Sajid Khan, who is set to replace Abrar Ahmed in the Pakistan squad in Australia has also had his departure delayed due to visa issues.

The source admitted before naming the officials in any touring squad, the board should make it certain they will leave with their teams on schedule.

Can't the PCB acquire the services of a local Australian for Doctor duties for a month? These minor things should not really be a big issue.

Guess there is no talk about visa but there was 5 -6 Page thread ahead of world cup .:kp

I don't think sarfraz is right choice . Rizwan is better wicket keeper and Batsman.

There would be bounce on the wicket, so we need someone who can show agility to collect the ball behind the stumps.

So in this scenario rizwan is the better option.

lol he was MOS in last full series vs NZ.Fumbling some chances in practice match doesn’t mean he shouldn’t play .
He can play in Pakistan. His fitness is. It up to scratch for Australia.
Let's hope we get to bat first, so he is not knackered from being in the field

Parchis imam & Masood shafique ain’t got any shot ranges theyr dead bat specialists Thursdays theyr chance to dead bat everything till tea day 4 get a draw, that draw will rank alongside 92 World Cup win masood may well become paks greatest captain ever, there only so much beatings you can take since 1995 !!

My team

1. Abdullah Shafique
2. Shan Masood
3. Saud Shakeel
4. Babar Azam
5. Agha Salman
6. Mohammad Rizwan
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Khurram Shehzad/ Sajid Khan if spinning
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
11. Hasan Ali

Might be better off doing that given the string of injuries to bowlers on our doctor's watch.

Not having a doctor with a team is something very serious. Look how Abrar got himself injured because there was no doctor on the team to monitor him. PCB should arrange some alternative for this kind of mishap, thngs like this should not happen again.

First look at Perth pitch reveals curator’s big change; Marsh’s tough Green truth — Test Daily

We’ve gotten our first look at the Optus Stadium pitch - and it’s clear changes have been made.

Plus wicket-keeper Alex Carey has revealed he was ‘surprised and really disappointed’ by his World Cup axing, playing only the first game of Australia’s successful tournament.

That and more in Test Daily!

Two days out from the opening delivery of The West Test, it’s clear the Optus Stadium pitch will be a little bit different.

Fox Cricket’s Courtney Walsh captured the below photo which shows less grass than you would expect this far out from the match.

Last year Australia took four and a half days to claim victory over the West Indies thanks to a pitch that didn’t break up as quickly as curator Isaac McDonald was hoping for.

Speaking to CODE Sports, McDonald confirmed he has taken a slightly different approach when preparing the pitch for the first Test and will “take a little bit more grass off the top”.

“My theory is to have it a little bit harder on top and a little bit less grass and see what impact that has on the game,” McDonald said.

“Grass is pace and bounce. That’s what people are looking for and that’s essentially what I’m looking for in a really good long-format wicket.”

One figure excited about the prospect of a fast wicket is Australian head coach Andrew McDonald, who believes his bowling attack “can expose” Pakistan in Perth.

“You talk to the fast bowlers and batters and it’s a good even contest between bat and ball, anytime there is bounce and pace in the surface,” McDonald said.

“If you get in, there are runs a plenty and if you find the right line and length, there’s reward for you as well. It always creates a fair and even contest.

“I think the bounce. As you said, the Gabba presents bounce. Perth presents bounce as well. So I think anytime a team, in particular, coming from the subcontinent, is challenged with that first up, it makes hopefully for a slow start for them. Hopefully we can expose them on a bouncy surface. So that is an advantage.”

Australian vice-captain Steve Smith expects the Optus Stadium pitch to possess its usual characteristics.

“I assume it’ll have some decent pace and bounce, which it normally does here,” Smith said. “I think there’s a little bit of grass on it … so there may be a bit of seam movement early on and it will probably get a bit flatter as the game goes on. (There) may be some cracks if the heat stays. We will wait and see and play it by ear each day.”

He believes that will prove advantageous to Australia given the experience the host nation has on pitches that offer pace and bounce.

“It’s something we will try and exploit, I suppose,” he said.

“We look at the wickets we played on in Pakistan and the wickets there didn’t have much pace and bounce, they were very slow, and coming to somewhere where potentially sub-continent players don’t receive as much … bounce, (so) that is something we try to exploit and get those wickets behind the wicket with catches. That usually comes into play quite a bit, so hopefully the boys can get that this week.”

Lol so much thought and planning for Pakistan, Aus just needs to show up to the ground on the 14th to win

Pakistan team is using a slab of marble in the nets. Mohammad Rizwan had it tilted on angle. They hope it will help them deal with Perth’s extra bounce and pace.

Who should take up the wicketkeeping duties in the first Test at Perth?

View attachment 140025
rizwan. No brainer.

Last thing we need is another Kami esque brain fade (brain fade is the “official” term… so we’ll go with that) behind the stumps… and Sarfraz is far more prone to that.

Rizwan has better longevity and concentration as a keeper.

It’s not like Sarfraz is a beast on tracks with bounce. He’s only good at Asian tracks, or tracks resembling Asian conditions like the tour game.

Preparations are in full swing as the Pakistan Team is gearing up for their 1st encounter against Australia at Perth.

That pitch is going to be a complete 180 from what they had in Canberra.

Pace and bounce from ball one.

Pakistan Cricket Team Update

Off spinner Sajid Khan has joined Team Pakistan at Perth.

He has been called to Australia to replace Abrar Ahmed who has gone unfit.

First Test is commencing in Perth from 14th December 2023.

Khawaja will be displaying a message supporting Palestine.

Let's see if any Pakistan players are brave enough to do the same.

Khawaja will be displaying a message supporting Palestine.

Let's see if any Pakistan players are brave enough to do the same.
It's not a question of bravery. The ICC code states: "Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through arm bands or other items affixed to clothing or equipment unless approved in advance by the player or team official’s board.

"Approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes."

So not sure what icc will do over here. My personal opinion- no place for politics in the field. You are playing cricket for your country and that's it. Where do you stop? If other aus players want to wear something supporting Israel- is that OK? Why not Ukraine? So many people died in pak from terrorism- did he ever wear something supporting his country of birth? Your job as a cricketer is to win the game for your team and not distract the team's focus
