Recent form does not favour them as does the absence of Mohammad Abbas but can they reverse the tide of expectation here?

There is only one thing predictable about our beloved cricket team, and that is unpredictability!!
Bring it on. Im not ruling us out, but the first game I want to see some proper fight.
We can worry about the result after 2 3 days of hard work and guts. Let's earn the right by getting some sort of ascendency in the first innings

Pakistan's only chance was Abbas . Now that he's out, I guess the match will not go to day 5. Even without Philander,
SAF bowling is too much for Pak batsmen . If Babar fails , no way this batting line up will last till the second new ball against Rabada, Steyn and Maharaj.
My guess will be a drubbing for Pak inside four days.

Heavy win coming up for SA. Our feeble batting and team selections will be exposed here.

Feel people are overrating this SA side. With no Ab and injuries to key players we stand a good chance.Remember only Ab was the difference between India and SA last time otherwise they were close .Ab retirement and injuries to Ngidi,Philander offsets our poor batting.I expect Fakhar to score Big and close match between two sides unlike a one sided drubbing

SA win.

If they win the toss then expect a proper phainta (innings' defeat or losing by 200+)!

Pak the underdogs here with nothing to lose.

Two days of rain should make the draw more likely.

Pak win.

Seems unthinkable atm but getting a feeling that it will be a close match with Pakistan clutching it.

Last three days of the test match are predicted to have thunderstorms I heard, so most likely a draw. I think Pakistan will take that given how their record in SA stands.

This could be a real cracker (low scoring one!) - SA still favs.

At this point it could go either way but the rain could come to save one of the teams

Quite a pessimist me but I've surprisingly gone for a Pakistan win (I'm ignoring the weather forecast). I just feel that our bowling line up is solid and I feel like in close matches recently in the 5 day format things have gone against the team batting last, my main worry is that QDK will play a blinder tomorrow and take the game away from us but if we can prevent him doing that I feel we have a great chance!

If Sa get out early, in like 20 overs, then pakistan will bat for around 65-70 overs.
Friday and Saturday it's gonna rain.
So maybe on Sunday we might get a result.
Depends on how long Sa bat tomorrow.

SA to win by a innings, rubbish team need to get rid of the dreadfull captain!

Pakistan can win if they can put on a lead of 250+

Pak win.

Oh, it has become a thriller now....

With some luck favouring Pakistan, they can clutch it.

Remember tomorrow it will be cloudy and with the new ball Pak bowlers can make early inroads.

SA win.

They're still favs. Heck, they even get in T20 mode to chase it before rain.

We need Abbas back; both Sarfi and Asad dropped and to win the toss in 2nd to have a chance.

SA to win by 6-7 wickets I feel. Disappointed in Sarfraz and Asad.

It’s neck-to-neck if you ask me.

In India’s tour to South Africa earlier this year (the first series where every wicket in every innings fell), the 4th innings scores were as follows:

1st Test (Cape Town): 135 all out

2nd Test (Centurion): 151 all out

3rd Test (Johannesburg): 177 all out

In all three cases, the side chasing in the 4th innings lost and the average target was 154.

Pakistan have set South Africa the required target of 149.

This is where Pakistan made the mistake of keeping Yasir Shah based on his U.A.E performances even though Fahim Ashraf would have been a far better choice for SA.

Regardless, an enthralling day of cricket awaits us .

Well we will be moral victors because usually we are demolished in the first test and this time we simply pulled defeat from the jaws of victory

They should open with yasir for a couple of overs. Bringing him late will not help, they don’t have the runs for it

He will not obtain any spin and it will only waste the new ball for Amir and Hassan.

It’s the last thing their batsmen expect and they were woefully inept in Sri Lanka. It’s worth a couple of overs in my view

Three pacers can bowl 15 overs each. Game is not going to last more than that either way.

India and SA pacers have a bit more discipline. I think it's a very tricky chase, but Pakistan bowling many hit me balls may help SA to get over the line despite batting 4th.

Yes but it would have been better to have a potential fourth seamer who can get the ball to swing in rather than a leg-spinner on a pitch that is offering no turn.

It’s common sense but than again, it’s been lacking for quite some time in the Pakistani dressing room.

Indians had the same issue. I guess tactical side is missing from Asian sides.

I still think that SA will find it very hard if Pakistan bowls reasonably well without giving too many hit me balls. It's very hard to score 150 runs in 4th inning in these pitches.

We do that all the time. Well 3 of the last 4 tests, and Mickey has fired shots at the main culprits for those,
So we are getting the first bit right obviously to get into winning positions despite our limitations

A bowling spell of some magnitude expected from Amir...
