The 2-2 drawn T20I series against New Zealand would have sent some warning signals to the Pakistan team management. Wonder if there are any lessons to be drawn from that series as we head into the ODI series.

Given the ODI World Cup this year, the result of this series could well have serious repercussions on our preparations.

The ODI series between the two teams commence in Rawalpindi as the Pindi Cricket Stadiums hosts the first two matches on 27 and 29 April. The action will then move to Karachi as the National Bank Stadium will stage the final three matches.

Pakistan squad:

Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Ihsanullah, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood and Usama Mir

Pakistan ODI team I have a little more faith in.

3-2 to PAK

Personally I would like Finn Allen to request RCB management to allow him game time with NZ

I really want to see this Shaheen Parwaaz cheetah batsman play

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Rizwan
Haris Sohail
Salman Agha
Nawaz
Usama Mir
Shaheen
Naseem
Ihsanullah

Should be enough to beat NZ. The tail is long but Imam and Babar are very good at ODI batting and will compensate for the lack of extra batsman.

The bowling looks really good but will be susceptible at the death.

Mark Chapman has been added to the BLACKCAPS ODI squad for the five-game series against Pakistan which starts in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Head coach Gary Stead said Chapman’s performances throughout the T20 series have been extremely compelling.

“The way Mark’s played against one of the best T20 bowling attacks in the world has been nothing short of outstanding.

“His match-winning knock in the fifth and deciding match was particularly special and we’re happy to have someone in such strong form added to our ODI squad.”

Chapman’s total runs tally of 290 is the most by any player in a five-game T20I series.

The BLACKCAPS tour party will expand to 16 with the addition of Chapman and new arrivals Tom Blundell and Henry Nicholls, while T20 squad member Dane Cleaver is returning home to New Zealand as planned.

NZ throwing the cat amongst the pigeons

Pakistan better wake up fast!

Chapman’s exploits have earned him a spot in the ODI squad and on current form he will be quietly confident of performing well enough to make himself the primary candidate to replace Kane Williamson in the likely scenario that the New Zealand captain does not recover for the World Cup later.

Very good Kiwi team there..i am afraid Pak don't know what they are doing. We might win a few games if we are lucky

In odi rankings Pakistan is at 5 and NZ at 2.

Playing around with the odi ranking predictor I noticed that we can finish at top if we beat NZ 5-0.

Imam-ul-Haq speaking in presser:

"If we beat New Zealand by a margin of 5-0, our team would move to number one in ICC ODI team rankings. I have always thought that it’s a team game. I am on third in individual batting rankings and Babar is at number one, but our team is not on number one spot, which is not a good thing"

“If we win the series by 5-0, the collective confidence that we will get, will be more important than personal records".

“It is true that we only have seven matches to prepare for the World Cup but since we are professionals so there should be no excuse"

“These five matches are very important for finalizing our playing XI and for our confidence. I think we should be ready for the Asia Cup by the end of this series which should also help us in our preparations for the World Cup, as there won’t be much time to prepare after the Asia Cup ends"

Yes Imam

New Zealand are here to fry Jalebis and give you the number 1 spot on a platter

No idea how this series would go but I hope the matches would be closely fought and not just one sided either way

Like the confidence of posters here but even this NZ side cannot be underestimated. Chad Bowes is in great List A form and Will Young's best format is anyway 50 overs.

Pakistan are a decent ODI team but I doubt it will be 4-1 Pakistan. 3-2 would be a good performance by Pakistan.

Pakistan can surprise either ways, but honestly the end of Ramadan and that 3 days of Eid break did not help us at all. When players fast for the whole month and then all of a sudden start to get back to 3 meals per day, it is obvious that their bodies will start to adjust and will possibly get more sore because Eid meals are never healthy and full of bad carbs, so the recovery process slows down dramatically. I believe this was the only reason why our bowlers could not perform in the final game of that T20 series.

Its a travesty that some ODI specialists can't get into any PSL team. Salman, Imam, Haris. The system is broken.

Imam talking about a 5-0.

Don't know if that's confidence or disrespect.

Whatever it is, it will certainly fire up the opposition.

4-1 to NZ will serve Pak better. I am tired of Babar's leadership decisions. I have had enough of seeing personal milestone jubilation culture instead of striving to win for the country.

Imam is talk. with his pretty average.
Still remember his 100 vs SA and his celebration, only for Pak to lose the match.
he is the champion of soft runs and actually is the example of this Pak team, which chases personal records.

NZ will win at least 2 if not more. Chapman and Mitchell each can win a match on their own

One should talk about winning 5-0 when you are already 4-0. Sounds very boastful when you have practically lost the T20 series against the same team.

Who media trains these guys? They love to say stupid things that come back to bite them. Just keep your head down, mouth shut and do the business first.

That would be great Saj! I actually wanted to play against their full strength team and wanted them to expose some of our weaknesses so we are better prepared for the upcoming world cup.

Btw all this is backed by the studies I have done in this field. If you don't understand, please feel free to ask or simply tell me where I am wrong. Soreness is the biggest enemy of any cricket bowler out there and the fight starts as soon as you return to your dressing room after finishing the game.

I wish we had picked Imad for this odi series. They all must resolve their personal differences as soon as they can and take the next few months very seriously.

Who wont like a 5-0 but, lets first try to win a series first which we are yet to win at home in last year or so. :ihsan

Gr8 preparation for WC coming up in same conditions. Not much time left. Gr8 oppurtunity for both sides to try out a few combinations. With superior knowledge of reverse swing in home conditions, you would say Pak are the obvious fav to win series.

Could have been 5-0 if Imam was selected for the 5th odi against NZ
