We now know the two finalists in the World Test Championship Final. Who do you think will come out on top?

India has done well to reach the final. But the odds are stacked against them. For one, their batting in England the last time they toured there was poor. For another, their record in ICC knockouts since 2013 has been poor. New Zealand should go into this as the favourites.

Edit: Match to be played at Southampton from June 18 - 22 (update post#112).

NZ will win, unless we win the toss and bat extremely well against Boult, Southee & co.

If the final was in any other place other than England (& NZ obviously), India would start favourites but England is probably the best place for New Zealand to play the final after NZ itself.

Depends on the weather, overcast conditions at Lords really work in favour of the kiwis, flip side hot and sunny flattens out Lords so I would presume it would bring India right back on equals

Poll added.

The match is 18–22 June 2021 at Lord's

India will win and the usual suspects will come up with a lot of excuses like England being one of the Big 3 prepared flat pitch to help india and the Nz players are frazzled because of playing in the IPl, and the conditions aren't that helpful to swing bowlers.

It all depends on the conditions.

As it's an ICC event, I expect a relatively flatter wicket than the ones we got in 2014 and 2018 so that game lasts five days. We may even see some turn later on.. So, India are the favourites.

But ofcourse if it's overcast for the most time, all that wouldn't matter as the ball starts hooping around giving NZ more of an advantage.

Cricket isnt a linear game.

NZ doesnt have a good record in England if I am not wrong.

Plus it will spin there too. Atleast in 2nd innings.

India needs to prepare well to tackle swing and chances are high NZ can be beaten.

If we turn up the way we are right now, NZ will masaccre us.

They are a very resilient team.

In past tour, they did well in England.

I think Jamieson will troll RCB fans by failing throughout the IPL and then performing in WTC final vs India.

P.S- I am now a DC fan and soon will be adding Pant's pic on my profile. :inti

If it's a flat pitch that has something in it for the spinners late in the test, India will win.

If has support for the seam bowlers, NZ will edge it.

India vs England: World Test Championship Final As Good As World Cup For Some Of Us, Says Ravichandran Ashwin

India vs England: Ravichandran Ashwin said there are a lot of players inside the Indian dressing room who are not playing white-ball cricket and for them World Test Championship final is as good as the World Cup.

India qualified for the World Test Championship final in style, thumping England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad on Saturday. India bundled out the visitors for a paltry 135 in their second innings to clinch the four-match series 3-1. The win helped India secure their berth in the inaugural WTC final where they will take on New Zealand. Ravichandran Ashwin, one of the stars of India's win and the Man of the Series, said for some members of the Indian team, the World Test Championship final was comparable to the ODI World Cup.

The Indian dressing room has some Test specialists like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, among others, who only play the longest format. Ashwin, who last played an ODI in 2017, has also become a Test specialist.

On the contrary I think if its a flat pitch india will struggle, our batsmen are not capable of scoring big while our bowling will get negated on such a pitch and some one in NZ team will score heavily to bat us out of the match .

If it seams like it did on our 2018 tour, Jamieson, Southee, Boult and Wagner will rout our lineup . I have a funny that the English groundsmen will prepare a .... I mean the English weather will create in a green seamer at Lords :inti

It will be super funny if English curators create a green seamer for India as revenge....and by doing so, they help India win the title. :P

In all seriousness, genuinely concerned with what moves Kohli will make as captain. Lol.

Come on, it's a ICC test final, surely the groundsman will be neutral

Jamieson could cause some havoc very awkward with the bounce he can get.

ICC will take care of the pitch

With Boult, Southee and Jamieson I favour NZ. Throw in Williamson too and I think they have a good chance.

NZL have only won 1 Test in England in the last 20 years and lost 8 tests, so certainly a very poor record, infact it is the worst record out of all the top 8 teams in England in the last 2 decades.

Lords in june usually should be a good dry batting surface aslong as weathers good aswell. I think india spinners should enjoy the surface in comparision to if the game was in April or may.

Both teams have good middle orders so it will come down to which seamers do most damage with ball.

No real difference is how lower middle order ( 5-6-7-8)perform from both sides decided the results

Kohli ,Pujara, and Rohit are capable of scoring big.

New Zealand batting is far from convincing away from home.

Greates nz test side vs one of the greatest indian sides. Nz to win.

The greatest Asian Test team of all time will win and enhance its already incredible legacy.

The last time these two teams toured england india averaged 25 with the bat and 30 with the ball so technically fell short by 50 runs every time. Nz on the other hand averaged 40 with the bat and 35 with the ball. That techn8cally a lead of 50 everytime and they have jamieson as well this time around.

This is very close to an ATG NZ side. So India will be underdogs. In English conditions they will be even more deadly. With undercooked middle order who can't buy a run to save their life India will have their task cut out.

NZ should have a better chance due to having a team to do well in Eng and they will have a practice before they play the final.

Not writing NZ off here but expecting India to better their performance in England, this time around. So went with India in the poll. Hope it is a good contest!

Not going to underestimate NZ especially after watching how we played against them last year in their own den. Conditions will be somewhat similar so I will keep my expectations low. Are we going to play any practice match there before this final or are we going to treat IPL as a practice tournament for this final? :inti

The pitch will be less of an issue and I assume the ICC will want to maximise revenue by ensuring a fairly flat one.
The weather conditions are beyond their control — this year, after a heatwave in May there was an Atlantic front that resulted in a lot of cold, wet days (with another heatwave right at the end of June).
As always in England, it depends on the weather ...it could rain for a week

India is a very passionate team with immense hunger and desire. They are desperate to win the WTC and enhance their legacy and this motivation will see them through.

Shastri and Kohli will ensure that the team is in the right head space to produce another stellar performance.

On the other hand, New Zealand is a very good cricket team but they lack the competitive spirit. They are never desperate to win. It is how their nature is.

It is also a positive because it helps them move on quickly. The way they lost the World Cup final would have mentally destroyed many players and teams, but the New Zealand players moved on within days.

They will lose the WTC Final, give a few smiles, praise India and life will go on, with New Zealand smashing another team at Hagley Oval and Basin Reserve with Williamson scoring 235*.

NZ will be huge favourites.

1. NZ will be in England from 3rd week of May whereas Indian team will be playing IPL.
2. They will play two test match series against England which will provide them enough opportunities to get accustomed to the conditions
3. They will have better batting line up to counter seaming conditions whereas Indian team will have weak opening and non-existent middle order.
4. Better captain for the conditions
5. Indian team will come on the back of two mont IPL( Indian team might even have injury issues by the time WTC arrives) and will be out of match practise for all important finals.

Overall, not looking good for India whereas NZ seems to be in better spot.

And if NZ wins some usual suspects will come up with excuses too like England prepared seaming track to take revenge, lack of match practice due to IPL, NZ playing a series there before the final and last but not the least India missing 2-3 key players due to injury in IPL. :inti

Let’s see what the weather does. This June in London we had four sunny days, twelve cloudy days and fourteen days when it rained. We had a whole week in when the average temperature was 16 C.
If India win in those conditions then they would deserve your moniker of GOAT from Asia

I have the same feeling. I don’t think he will fail in IPL, but he will not be worth the pricetag. He will come good for RCB in future years as he develops.

Their cricketers treat the game of cricket just as profession. The craze ain't there as much for Kiwi fans for cricket. It is different with other sports like Rugby though.

He has failed to perform even in one game vs Australia in the ongoing T20 series. Boult and Southee are doing well and Jamieson is going for the usual 47 off 4 quota. I think he will warm bench and Kane Richardson will play for RCB instead.

But it will be only highlighted after we lose the final. :inti

I don't think anything should be highlighted after you lose unless you are simply looking to improve and highlighting is done for self-improvement.

I know they will say it just like the following :inti

Ravi Shastri blames 'lack of practice' for India's defeat in South Africa

After getting outplayed by the South Africans in the Test series by 2-0, Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri opened up in a press conference and revealed the reason for their poor performance. While addressing the media in Johannesburg, Shastri stated that if the Indian cricket team would have got a few more days for practice in South African conditions, they would have made a difference in the series.

It will be tough to say now who will win.NZ also great team with some great players and india team never die attitude. It must be fun.But I don't mind if nz win this because NZ is my favorite team after India.

I was only stating the numbers and in my opinion who would win. I also agree that india should win as it has fought and won more tougher series than nz to get up to this point.

WTC Final won't be at Lord's, ICC all set to shift it out of Lord's due to COVID-19.

It could either be Southampton or Manchester where England hosted Windies, Pakistan and Australia last year.

Why wouldn't they on June 18? After all it will be the fourth anniversary of Pakistan's Champions Trophy win in 2017. :inti

No one stops India to have more practice.

It should be a good match with NZ winning it with a thin margin. Rohit will be a walking wicket.....

Both those venues will favour quick bowlers. Both teams are well equiped to utlize conditions. It will come down to which teams batting isnt exposed to pace and bounce.

I think Southampton pitch is not that quick & spin definitely play role there

Couldn’t give a flying fig, as long as New Zealand win, India shouldn’t be included in the test championship as they refuse to play us!

NZ would start as favorites. Indian team would need to perform at their best to beat NZ.

It depends on a multitude of factors.

Now, for Indian fans, would you play Jadeja over an extremely in-form Axar Patel, knowing that Jadeja won't play a test until the WTC Final?

Similarly, another thing to look at is Gill's form. Would you persist with Gill or go back to perhaps another opener like KL Rahul?

I suppose the conditions depend as well, but one thing is for certain, if Pujara and Kohli can fire for India in the final, they will be the clear favourites to win.

For me, this is bigger than ODI WC/T20 WC.

I wish it could be best out of 3, 1 does not show the clear picture.

It's an inaugural event, so it carries more weight. With one game, if the conditions are more suited to New Zealand, it would be difficult for India, but if they can do it at the Gabba, they can do it in England.

New Zealand will put the nightmares of the WC final to sleep by winning the WTC Final.
