Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz get acquitted in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case [Post Updated #179]

Professionalism is not to file the case next day your client wishes, professionalism is to study all aspects, do your best preparations, leave no grounds uncovered, all it takes is one mistake by stupid lawyers to screw up won case for their client. Do you know it took 20 years for IK's lawyers to go into courts against Sharifs despite him being accusing them of each and every possible crime ever since 1996. What do you think why IK didn't file these cases in those 20 years? Again I ask you, What kind of logic you are living with?

The lawyers don't decide to sue, it's the a client's that decide. The Sharif's are running like you. And just like you, they are scared. Your lies based on their lies and have no value in law. It's evidence of money transfers you need and they don't have any.

So stop running- they claimed the daily Mail lied and libelled them. They said they would sue, they have money and the lawyers. These lawyers don't decide if they sue, the client decides and the Sharif's have kacked their pants.

You, like him and his lawyers don't have a leg to stand on. The whole world knows that he is Crooked and no matter how much you run, that fact will never change.

Your journey on this thread so far, Sharifs are proven guilty of looting all wealth of Pakistan & proven guilty they are responsible of current situation of Pakistan, to -> putting all kind of false accusations on them, to -> resorting to why don't Sharifs go to courts to clear accusations. Whats next?

Luckily, majority of Pakistanis are not part of the world you are talking about.

But why are you so scared? Like all Nooras you will do everything not to learn the truth. You have accepted that his daughter is Crooked, his sons are on the run and will never come back to PK, and he also wants to run to London.

Luckily for you, your whole world will never cave in. After all, its just a tiny black balloon about to burst out.

Humiliation is the fate of all Nooras. You guys are associated with stupidity and theft where ever you go and that will never change.

File the cases against them. Everyone in Govt & institutes are desperate to hang them. Go on & help them, the nation & Pakistan's future.

I know their modus operandi, no direct evidences. Everything is redirected. If you are talking about documented evidence, Sharifs and Zardaris & co made all the documents. They are good at it. Even a clerk knows about all the points to be covered in a document. Everything is indirect.

These losers know the modus operandi. Any one with a single brain cell knows how Corrupt they are.

Maybe you need to read a little deeper. This was debunked straight away. [MENTION=142451]Mian[/MENTION] can shed more light on this.

His name was cleared and the media reported it for 2 weeks without verification that this Buzdar was another person. The media as a weapon of propaganda is so powerful that even after the clarification 10 months ago people still are not aware of clarification but are well aware of allegation and see him as a murderer.

Usman Buzdar cleared of 'murder controversy' as report reveals namesake suspect

KARACHI/LAHORE: A two-decade-old report has cleared the misconception that the new chief minister of Punjab was involved in a murder case that left six people dead and multiple others injured.

In Geo News' programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, this correspondent spoke of the incident, which did, in fact, take place in 1998, whereafter a first information report (FIR) was filed and consequent court proceedings were held.

According to the investigation carried out at that time and the present probe, the person identified as Usman Buzdar — who was named as a suspect in the 1998 case — is not the same person who is now the chief minister of Punjab. This was corroborated by the court rulings and a three-page police report from two decades ago.

Reports had surfaced over the past few days, after the new CM was nominated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleging that Buzdar and other members of his family were involved in the murder of six people and had subsequently made a diyat payment — a local equivalent of blood money paid as compensation to the family of the deceased.

The concerning reports had caused a flurry of controversy and criticism for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Khan-nominated chief minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. The party and Buzdar had both denied the allegations.

According to the details revealed in the report, the incumbent Punjab chief minister was contesting local body polls in 1998, and, on the election day, a scuffle had broken out at a government school between two local tribes. Firing during that incident had left six people dead and four injured.

According to the FIR dated June 10, 1998, Muavia Buzdar — who filed the case — said about 40-45 armed men stationed at the polling station on election day had threatened him and warned him that they would not let him vote for anyone other than Usman Buzdar.

Muavia Buzdar further alleged that when he walked towards the polling station, the armed men opened fire, killing six people and wounding four others.

Soon after, allegations of plotting murder were levelled against Usman Buzdar and his father, Sardar Fateh Buzdar, and an FIR was filed against them, which then led to a police probe. However, as per a conclusive police report available with Geo News, no proof was found against Buzdar or Sardar Fateh, and they were declared innocent.

Even in their initial action, police had dropped the charges against the two Buzdars; nevertheless, there were court proceedings in this regard as well.

The court, however, had dropped the charges against all of the 30 suspects named in the case, owing to the fact that the matter was resolved after the payment of diyat.

It is important to note here that the Usman Buzdar recorded in the list of suspects in the court ruling was the son of Ali Shah and a resident of Sura on the border between Punjab and Balochistan.

On the other hand, the name of the incumber Punjab CM's father is Sardar Fateh Muhammad Buzdar, who is a resident of Bharti, a tribal area near Dera Ghazi Khan.

Needless to say, the name of Usman Buzdar recorded in the court proceedings and a police report had caused the confusion that now-CM Punjab was involved in a murder case. That stands untrue.

Do you want them to follow PTI route? lol
Politics is not about road shows & dharnas. Its about ideologies. One day when you will grow up you will get it. ZAB sacrificed his life for his ideology. Even he had option to escape.

His ideology split Pakistan, give Pakistan the likes of BB, Zardari and Al Zulfiqar. No thanks.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz has tested positive for novel coronavirus and he has been suffering from fever for the last three days.

“In view of his deteriorating health, he should be shifted from the Kot Lakhpat Jail to a hospital immediately,” she demanded in a tweet. “And, all legal requirements should be completed so that he is offered healthcare facilities.”

The PML-N leader warned that negligence in the treatment can jeopardise his health. She also requested the party workers to pray for Sharif’s early recovery.

President PML-N Shehbaz Sharif yesterday visited the jail to see his son Hamza and inquired about his health, according to the jail sources.

The two Sharifs discussed the current political situation, cases against their family and other issues. Later, Hamza’s family also met him in the prison.

Hamza couldn’t show up in the previous hearing [September 10] before an accountability court in a reference of money laundering and illegal assets owing to his illness.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a Rs7 billion money laundering and assets beyond means reference against Shahbaz Sharif family including his wife, sons and two daughters.

According to the reference, the NAB has nominated former chief minister Punjab, his wife Nusrat Shahbaz, sons Hamza Shahbaz, Suleman Shahbaz, daughters Rabia Imran and Javeria Ali in the reference. Suleman Shahbaz is a proclaimed offender in this case.

The Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz is in jail on judicial remand. Earlier, his bail application was turned down by the Lahore High Court in the money laundering case.

LAHORE: PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz on Saturday hinted at the chance that the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) long march, planned for the next month to supposedly oust the Imran Khan government, may not be held after all.

“There is a possibility that the long march may not be needed,” said the PML-N leader in reply to a question whether the PDM’s long march would end before moving beyond the PML-N’s bastion of Gujranwala.

She was talking to reporters here on Saturday before receiving her cousin Hamza Shehbaz, who was released from the Kot Lakhpat Jail on bail after spending 20 months in prison in a money laundering case instituted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the president of the opposition alliance PDM, had announced that the long march on Islamabad would be held from March 26 to overthrow the government.

Released from jail on bail, Hamza says no corruption charge established against Sharif family

Ms Nawaz, however, did not explain why the march might not be needed. But, she did declare that people were fully prepared for it.

Answering a question about the PML-N joining hands with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) over the Senate polls in Punjab from where all 11 candidates have been elected unopposed, she said: “It is better if you do not ask me about this.”

Five Senate seats went to the PTI and PML-N each and one to the PML-Q, an ally of the ruling party.

A source close to her said that Ms Nawaz was not happy over her party’s decision to go for an unopposed Senate election in Punjab. Ms Nawaz wanted the election in Punjab on March 3 to expose the fissures within the PTI. She is of the view that through the unopposed election, the opposition had provided relief to Imran Khan, the source said.

The PTI has credited PML-Q senior leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi with evolving a consensus among the ruling party and the opposition — PML-N and PPP — to have their senators elected as per their numbers in the Punjab Assembly.

“There was no rigging, no quarrel, and no bickering. The Senate polls were held successfully in Punjab. Another successful inning of the Pakistan Muslim League for strengthening democracy,” PML-Q MNA Moonis Elahi had tweeted.

Critical of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Maryam Nawaz said only one constituency (NA-75) had exposed the “theft” by Imran Khan. “He used to talk about free and fair elections and umpires. In this by-poll, the umpire was kidnapped and even then he [Imran Khan] failed to win this election.”

Ms Nawaz hoped that the disgruntled PTI members would vote for the PDM candidate, Yousuf Raza Gilani, for an Islamabad Senate seat against Hafeez Sheikh. “Imran Khan got selected last time through rigging, but in the future he stands no chance and his party’s lawmakers know this. Therefore, some of them will not vote for the PTI candidate,” she claimed.

When asked about her cousin Hamza Shehbaz’s role in the PML-N, Ms Nawaz said: “Hamza has worked for the party relentlessly. We both are helping each other. Whatever duty the party assigns us we will do it.”

A good number of PML-N workers had gathered outside the Kot Lakhpat jail to receive the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly. Upon his release, Mr Hamza and Ms Nawaz led a rally of party workers towards the Sharifs’ Model Town residence. At a couple of points, he also addressed the charged party workers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hamza said: “No corruption has been established against me, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Ahsan Iqbal. This government has not launched a single development project in about three years.”

He said the opposition could not sit with “vote, sugar and flour thieves”, adding that the government had made the life of the common man miserable.

PML-N information secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb said the opposition leader had braved 20 months of illegal imprisonment and responded to Imran Khan’s political victimisation with courage and resilience. She said Mr Hamza had become a symbol of defiance against persecution by the “NAB-Niazi unholy alliance”.

The former information minister said: “The PTI could not prove a single penny of corruption by Hamza even after exhaustive abuse of power, illegal detention, mental torture, smear campaign and unconstitutional treatment. The role of the NAB-Niazi alliance will always be quoted as one of the darkest chapters in history.”

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Hamza Shehbaz in a money laundering reference. Mr Hamza had sought bail primarily on the ground of inordinate delay in conclusion of the trial proceedings after the Supreme Court denied him the relief with a directive to approach the high court with fresh grounds.

Sugar mills reference: PM Shehbaz, Hamza seek relief under NAB law tweaks

After the Supreme Court (SC) restored amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz on Wednesday sought retransfer of the Ramazan Sugar Mills reference to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The development comes days after incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan sought acquittal from the £190 million case under the NAB amendments — which he had challenged.

On September 6, the apex court accepted intra-court appeals filed against the September 15, 2023, majority judgement striking down the amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance.

A five-member bench — headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa — approved the intra-court appeals filed by the federal and provincial governments, saying that Imran could not prove that NAB amendments were unconstitutional.

During today’s hearing, the father-son duo’s counsel argued that the reference against their clients is ‘inadmissible’ after the Supreme Court’s verdict and that the “accountability court lacks jurisdiction to proceed in the case”. In response to the argument, the judge asked the lawyers to file an application for the transfer of sugar mills reference to the anti-graft body. The court added the hearing on the application will be conducted on October 1.

Meanwhile, it also accepted Hamza Shehbaz’s plea for exemption from personal appearance.

On February 18, 2019, the anti-graft crusader filed a reference against Hamza and Shehbaz, alleging that the former Punjab chief minister had misused his authority to get a 10km sludge carrier constructed in district Chiniot to facilitate Ramzan Sugar Mills, owned by his sons.

The anti-corruption bureau had alleged that the 'project' had inflicted a loss of Rs213 million to the national exchequer.

The reference was reopened in November 2023 after the amendments — introduced by the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) — were struck down.

Earlier, Imran also sought acquittal from the £190 million case under the NAB amendments — which he had challenged.

The deposed prime minister's lawyer told the accountability court in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail that the case was no longer valid after the verdict as all the cabinet decisions are protected in NAB amendments.

PM Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz seek acquittal in Ramzan Sugar Mills case

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz on Monday moved a plea to seek acquittal in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz filed pleas in the anti-corruption court via their lawyer Amjad Pervaiz.

Citing no evidence of corruption against his client, Pervaiz demanded acquittal of the father and son duo in the case.

It may be noted that the Ramzan Sugar Mills case was shifted to anti-corruption team after amendments in the NAB laws.

In the mills’ reference, the NAB arrested PM Shehbaz on Oct 5, 2018, and the Lahore High Court released him on bail on Feb 14, 2019.

The NAB alleged that Mr Shehbaz Sharif being chief minister and his son Hamza with the abetment and connivance of each other caused a loss of Rs213 million to the national exchequer by committing the offence of misuse of authority.

It said Mr Shehbaz Sharif had issued a directive for the construction of a drain in Chiniot district primarily for the use of Ramzan Sugar Mills owned by his sons – Hamza and Suleman.

Ramzan Sugar Mills case: Defence concludes arguments on acquittal pleas of PM, son

The defence on Thursday concluded its arguments before an anti-corruption court in support of acquittal applications of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza in Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

In his concluding arguments, defence counsel Amjad Pervez stated that the prosecution charge was that the wastewater drain was constructed on the order of the then chief minister for the benefit of his sons’ mills in Chiniot.

He said the charge was baseless as the drain was not constructed for the benefit of the sugar mills.

He said the drain was a development scheme approved by the Punjab cabinet and the assembly for the area.

The counsel argued that the drain was constructed for the benefit of ten villages in Chiniot and even the complainant had acknowledged this point.

He said the complainant confirmed that not just ten but 15 more settlements were benefiting from the drain.

He stated that the prosecution’s allegations were baseless and the corruption claims were mere stories.

He pointed out that this was a government-funded drain and the Ramzan Sugar Mills pays charges for disposing of its waste into it.

He said the NAB’s case was nothing but political victimisation.

Advocate Pervez said it was shocking that it took a prime minister seven years to prove his innocence in a false case. Even the prime minister was helpless like an ordinary citizen in the country’s system, he concluded.

Judge Sardar Mehmood Iqbal Dogar adjourned the hearing till Feb 3 and directed the prosecution to present its arguments on the acquittal applications of the accused persons.

At the previous hearing, complainant Zulfiqar Ali in the sugar mills case had resiled from his statement during a cross-examination. He stated that he had no knowledge of the case.

He also submitted an affidavit to the court, admitting that the construction of the wastewater drain in Chiniot did not cause any loss to the national exchequer.

Zulfiqar clarified that he was unaware of the details of the petition, therefore, wished to withdraw it.

On Oct 17, an accountability court had transferred the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference to the anti-corruption court for lack of jurisdiction following amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

NAB, after the amendment, cannot prosecute an alleged offence involving money less than Rs500m and the offence amount in the mills reference was below the minimum value.

The accountability court was informed that NAB, in its reference, had made a case of alleged corruption of Rs213 million.

NAB reference filed in 2018 alleged that PM Shehbaz, being the chief minister, and his son Hamza, with the abetment of each other, had caused a loss of Rs213 million to the national exchequer by committing the offence of misuse of authority.

It said Mr Shehbaz had issued a directive for construction of a drain in Chiniot district primarily for the use of Ramzan Sugar Mills owned by his sons, Hamza and Suleman.

Court acquits PM Shehbaz Sharif, son Hamza in Ramzan Sugar Mills case

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Punjab chief minister Hamza Shehbaz have been acquitted in the Ramzan Sugar Mills corruption case.

The case, which had been ongoing since 2017, stemmed from accusations that the Shehbaz family had facilitated the construction of a drainage system for Ramzan Sugar Mills in Chiniot, leading to a financial loss of Rs213 million to the national exchequer, Express News reported

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against the two political figures, accusing them of corruption over the construction of the drainage system in 2015.

During the proceedings, the Anti-Corruption Court's Judge, Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Dogar, stated that no grounds for conviction existed, and that no punishment was forthcoming for the accused.

Shehbaz Sharif was arrested in October 2018, while Hamza was taken into custody in June 2019. They were later granted bail by the Lahore High Court.

The legal proceedings included several key dates where charges were levied, dismissed, and refiled, with both individuals facing extensive periods of detention during the trial.

Lasr week, Ramzan Sugar Mills case took a dramatic turn as the complainant disassociated himself from the case, stating in court that he had no objection to the acquittal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif.

Appearing before the anti-corruption court, complainant Zulfiqar Ali told Judge Sardar Muhammad Iqbal that he neither filed the complaint against the Sharifs nor was he aware of the application on which the case was initiated.

"I withdraw this application," he said. At this, the judge directed Ali to submit an affidavit confirming his stance.

Subsequently, Ali submitted the affidavit, reiterating that he had no involvement in the case. In his statement, he said that he was unaware of the complaint's content, had not signed any application and lacked any knowledge about the construction of the wastewater drain near Ramzan Sugar Mills, which lies at the heart of the case.

"I have no objection if Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif are acquitted," Ali stated in his affidavit.

The judge inquired if the complainant's statement had been recorded previously, to which Ali replied in the negative.

It would save a lot of money if courts were just dispensed with in Pakistan, and the govt allowed to make rulings as and how they see fit. All that expense fighting cases could be put towards development projects instead.
