"The fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) is all set to introduce a mid-season trade window for the first time in the league. The mid-season trade window will open later this week which allows each team to exchange two unused players and restructure their teams for the remainder of the tournament.

The window will remain active for 48 hours and only those players who have not played any match in the tournament for their franchises will be eligible for trading.

The idea was accepted by all the franchises before the starting of season four. It will give an opportunity for the franchises to cover the weakness of the teams by trading a player which isn’t needed by them.

The deal, however, requires the concerned players to agree to the switch.

Apart from local players, international players will also be eligible for trading provided all the criteria mentioned above for trading is fulfilled by them.

Lahore Qalandars’ Haris Sohail might consider a switch as he hasn’t played a single game this season.

The tournament’s first leg is being played across the UAE in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, with Quetta Gladiators ruling the points table so far."

Zafar Gohar needs to go elsewhere. Disgraceful he is rotting on the bench.

Great initiative and something which was yet to be seen in cricket leagues.

Just a question: Will the players be loaned out only for this season or will they be fully transferred?

Might be able to get a game with PZ because other teams already have spinners like Asghar, Usama Mir, Irfan Khan etc on the bench.

HBL PSL introduces mid-season trade window

Sharjah, February 21:

In an exciting move geared towards enhanced fan engagement, HBL Pakistan Super League will be introducing a mid-season trade window this year.

The mid-season trade window will commence after the completion of the 23 February game between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United. This game will mark the completion of four matches for each team in this year's HBL PSL.

The window will close at 11:59 p.m. UAE time on 25 February 2019, giving each team a little under 48 hours to finalise any potential trades.

“We have seen in the past that teams often carry players that could potentially add value to another team. This mid-season trade window could help teams find some more balance during the tournament and provide game time for a player who would otherwise miss out. We are also constantly thinking of ways to engage with our fans and this mid-season trade window will provide them with some more excitement during the tournament," said Imran Ahmad Khan, Head of Player Acquisition and Management.

Based on mutual consent of the players and teams involved, only player-for-player trades within the same category will be allowed in this window. Teams will only be allowed to finalise trades for players who have not played any game for their original teams in this season.

Each team will be capped at two mid-season trades.

If this happens, how will players be loyal to any franchise or team?

It was surprising to see Nauman Ali getting a game over Irfan Khan in MS XI.

Malik does not want to give chances to talented youngsters because he is insecure about his on spot in national side. Hammad was dropped as well.

Won't be surprised to see some teams still pick TTFs. , Markhor

Another mockery of young talent players by PCB and franchises. At the end of the day they may select Sir Farhar/F Iqbal type of players. So far not a single young batsman got opportunity in PSL. Players like S Shakil, Umar Siddque, Hasnain... should not made themselves available and waste their time by warming the bench.

I think it says that a player can only be traded if they give consent and haven't played a match.

So a. They are willing to move anyway, and b. if they haven't played a match they probably want to move to another team where they might get more chances.

All franchises have same mentality and same young players will not be selected even if they change the team. Its just like an eye wash. Franchises are there to make money and they know they will be in PSL even in next 5-10 years as well regardless the team's performances.

Agree with Major that they are there to make money not producing young talent. They can play same flop players even if they score duck 10 in a row.

Okay, but I was referring to whether players were loyal to their franchises.

are they loyal right now? pretty much all major players have changed teams, and we're only in season 4

This isn't a national team. Players are only loyal to money. And this is good. Only those players can be traded who didn't got a chance. It's a good opportunity for them

It's a good idea but it seems some franchises are only in PSL for a holiday with no intention of winning. I see so many ex-players on the bench for the regular bhai chara stuff. And someone selected Salman Butt over a young batsman :salute

Definitely a good idea, I hope talented players like Haris Sohail, Zafar Gohar e.t.c are traded, so they can get a proper chance to play for some other team, which actually deserves them.

Also hoping, KK somehow find some solution to their middle order problem.

KK need to bring in Haris to play at number 3. They have been collapsing every game and need some stablity. Haris and Babar would also be a promising duo that you can rely on to bat deep.

I feel sorry for Gohar. Most teams have other spinners playing unforunately. Islambad have Shadab, Karachi, Imad and Umer Khan, Peshawar, Ibtisam, Quetta, Fawad and Nawaz, Lahore, Yasir and Lamichane. Realistically i think Multan should bring him in. They don't have much spinners in Green and Irfan.

Ibtisam doesn't play most of the time, as they prefer Sameen Gul over him, but yeah knowing Sammy who mostly plays an all pace attack with 1 spinning all-rounder, he wouldn't also give a chance to Zafar Gohar.

Actually, Gohar is better than most if not all the spinners you have mentioned but it's true like always he won't get a chance to play for any team barring Multan, I guess.

I hope Nasir nawaz and Muhammad hasnain change teams as they don't look like getting games

Psl needs a “All Star Game” mid season just like NBA... will be great for promotion..

This is another gimmick from PCB which actually don't serve any purpose. Those emerging young batsmen along with Haris Sohail will be neglected even if they change their team because all franchises are not interested to give them any opportunity.
It will be a good idea if they are allowed to pull out for domestic tournaments in the name of practice.

Can't believe Haris arguably one of best Pakistan's batsmen is warming the bench. Unless it's the injury Aqib has got it really really wrong.

Have asked PCB and their reply is that there are no updates yet.

We are right at the halfway mark now and I hope teams analyze their mistakes/weaknesses and trade players according to what their requirements are and give chance to some talented young players.

I don't know whether they will keep this window next year, if no trade happens this time.

These managers seem laid back. No action or reaction.

It was a good opportunity for teams like KK, MS, LQ to improve their squad and make a come back.

Strange that PCB came up with this idea - must have been based upon feedback from franchises - seems they arent playing ball here. Still some time left so lets see.

Karachi Kings have confirmed to PakPassion that they will not be making any changes.

What the heckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :danish :danish

We have the worst batting lineup and still not picking any new batsmen

Eh, if anything its the local pacers that are a worry.

Shinwari has been trash & Sohail is on his last legs and shouldn't have been picked in the 1st place.

Yamin is not a front line bowler which leaves only Amir.

KK should have looked to trade Iftikhar Ahmed for one of Amad or Abbas. With IU having lost bell, they might have been interested in an Iftikhar-Amad tradeoff as well.

Good idea , Multan Sultans who are languishing at the bottom of the table should look to add some fire power in their middle order otherwise they would continue to stay at the bottom....

Maybe some franchises didn't want to help other rivals out and as a football fan I can understand that sentiment.

It's obvious that the players avaible on KK's bech are of no use to any of the franchise, therefore no trade is possible for them..

No activity at all.

Absolutely nothing.

Lol the clues less coaches and captains lost an opportunity to get some much needed players. Lots of good trades were possible, unfortunately for the fans the teams didn't utilize them.

Should PSL have mid season transfer window?

I think they should have it so players who are not getting any chances in their team should be allowed to move to others.

Would certainly be interesting... bringing new players in and removing underperforming players...

Trades between teams like in the NBA would be interesting too!

Could be a good idea espically for players who havent had a game and would remove underperforming players
