AS PER REPORTS:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it will auction the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, following strong valuations in the recent sale of two new teams, Hyderabad and Sialkot.

The board assumed control of the franchise after the ownership agreement expired on December 31, 2025, with former owner Ali Tareen stepping away amid strained relations with the PCB. Initially, the plan was to operate the team for one year and auction it in 2027, but the board has now decided to move forward sooner, citing financial efficiency despite an audit noting the loss of an $8.5 million franchise fee.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the board will run the Sultans during the upcoming PSL 11, scheduled from March 26 to May 3, 2026, before initiating the auction process. He added that an interim management structure will be appointed, including a professional cricketer to oversee operations. Multan Sultans, originally awarded to the Schon Group in 2017 for $5.2 million, were the most expensive franchise at the time. With the addition of Hyderabad and Sialkot, PSL 11 will feature eight teams, marking another milestone in the league’s expansion.

Reports that the PCB is thinking of selling off the Multan Sultans team due to strong investor interest in the next few days. The base price will be Rs 200 crores
I’ve not heard these reports

But anyways, I don’t think they should put it in an Auction. Just set a base price you want for it, so let’s say 200cr as you say and see who offers the value, sell to who you want.

It will be a good move.

PCB directly managing the team doesn't look great.

If there is investor appetite then it's better to capitalise on it now.

PCB is making it happen... Multan Sultans will be sold as well... Looks like PCB does not want to operate the franchise on its own and seeing the interest in the bid earlier, they might even get more money out of this one

The PCB has decided to put Multan Sultans up for auction ahead of the 11th season of the PSL, which begins on March 26. A tender inviting bids for Sultans has been issued, with interested parties asked to submit technical proposals by January 30.

This change of heart from the PCB ends the brief notion it entertained of running Multan Sultans in-house this season, as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said last month. To that end, Sultans were not put up for sale when the two newly added teams were auctioned off last week in Islamabad.

ESPNcricinfo reported on Monday that the proposal to auction the Sultans had the support of senior officials at the PCB and the PSL, and only awaited a final sign-off from Naqvi. The PSL is understood to have been buoyed by the high prices at which the two new teams, Hyderabad and Sialkot, were sold - for PKR 1.75 and PKR 1.85 billion, respectively. The sales, which took place at an auction, far exceeded the PCB's expectations, with the franchise fees nearly three times that of Lahore Qalandars, the most valuable of the existing PSL sides.

Should've done along with 2 franchises sold earlier. Now it looks even more unprofessional. I am curious what Ali Tareen has to say now, will they take part in the auction ?

Rashid says the reason why Ali Tareen took an L and didn't renew contract of MS (which he would've gotten at a cheaper price than he would get now), is because Ali wanted marketing and this loss (of billions) is going to be justified because of marketing he got and also that Ali is a smart guy 🤡

Talk about mental gymnastics

@Rana Why Rashid won't say that the guy took an L? Why he needs to justify everything? Even if it is beyond common logic?

Bottom line is that Tareen tried his hardest to damage the PSL with his antics, he wasn't only criticizing the league and PSL, he was making fun of the league, the PSL management and PCB in comparison to other leagues on social media and he was behaving as if he was the only one facing problems in the PSL.

Here are the facts right now

- The original 5 franchises renewed their team agreements with the PSL, PCB for the next 10 years
- The original title sponsor renewed their agreement with the PSL, PCB
- The two new PSL franchise owners signed a deal with the PSL, PCB at a significantly higher than expected price

If the only one who is looking like a tool, its him.

They should've auctioned this along with the two new franchises on that auction day or just make a deal with I2C who were very keen to buy a team at that auction.

Rashid Latif? What does he know about marketing or running a franchise. Guy wants to be an expert on everything lol

The Technical Evaluation of the proposals submitted by the bidders for the sale of Multan Sultans has been completed by the PCB bid committee, it was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday

A total of six proposals were received from interested parties within the stipulated deadline. The PCB bid committee then carried out a thorough and transparent evaluation process.

Out of the six proposals, five (5) bidders have been termed technically qualified, who will now take part in the Auction process of the Multan Sultans. The date and venue for the Auction will be shared in due course.

Salman Naseer, CEO HBL PSL:

“We are delighted to receive such keen interest in the sale of Multan Sultans’ Franchise Rights. The HBL PSL congratulates the technically qualified bidders and appreciates all parties who engaged with us through-out the tender process; with whom we will continue to explore other exciting opportunities.

“I'm sure the fans are equally excited for another thrilling Team Auction before the focus shifts to all important Player Auction for HBL PSL 11. The final lineup of the eight HBL PSL team owners is going to set the ball rolling for the New Era of the HBL PSL 11.

“Stay tuned for further updates from HBL PSL. Exciting times await.”

6 bids is dissapointing and too low. I was hoping for atleast 20 bids given the successful auction few weeks ago.

This is a joke of a board, lunacy at its very best. Fortnight ago they announce to manage Multan for a season, they in between they vomit again to put it on sale , don't be surprised if Tareen buy backs

Tareen if he wants it back, he will have to swallow his words and buy it back at even higher price. According to reporters he has regretted his decision to walk away from the franchise and reconnected with the PCB offering to pay the initial renewal fee of Rs 1.35 billion. The PCB told him too late, if he wants it back he will have to participate in the auction and pay the market price which is the highest price on the day of the auction. He threatened to go into litigation for getting the first right of refusal, the PCB told him fine, go ahead but then they will blacklist him from the auction. Truth be told, he doesn't have a case.

PSL on Wednesday announced that the highly anticipated auction of its franchise Multan Sultans will be held on February 9 here.

A total of five bidders will battle to acquire the ownership rights of the 2021 champions, who were shortlisted by the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) bid committee after a "thorough and transparent" evaluation process.

Venue Lahore? Where in Lahore?

The Dallas party took the time out

They are counting their cash

The end of Sultans

Rawalpindi is in the house

2.45bn by Walee

Is it me or Faisalabad is the Croydon of Pakistan?

No matter how hard the PCB tries, no one wants to go for that city. The have a stadium that will be in use lol

I cant believe it, Thank you ALi Tareen for fing eveyrhting up hahahahah

I am so glad Rawalpindi just got a franchisee out of no where

I wasnt a fan of having Pindi but the big Bash derby between Melbourne teams and the Sydney Derby changed my mind.

Islamabad v Pindi.

Gentlemen v Buoyz.

Pcb should not accept the proposal. Only 2 options should be Multan or Faisalabad.
We need to have more home away fixtures to bring revenue and fans and keep our stadiums alive.

Multan has intl stadium
Fsbd has stadium and that is a big thing.

Twin cities should have only 1 representation.

These guys have dropped a stack of money.

If they want Pindi then so be it!

Proposal?

The option to propose is a city that isn’t listed

This isn’t a proposal by Walee. This is their right to pick from the city’s already listed.

Multan Sultans and that fraud Rizwan legacy in the mud.

Deal with it!

Play stupid games

Win stupid prizes Ali Tareen

Could have had this franchise at 110cr

im expecting a video of ALi Tareen crying cause of his own mess ups tonight

Rest assured

The 3 serious bidders were not bidding to take over Multan Sultans. They were bidding for the 3rd new franchise!

QG needs to go back up for resale

You’ve got at least 2 guys happy to pay 2.4bn for a franchise

You had at least one happy to go for 1.7bn in the last auction

The first 5 franchises have got it too easy! There are at least 4-5 groups willing to buy them out but they don’t have the opportunity!

CeeDee group and the other one who were actively bidding need to be brought in

QG should sell their franchise or they are doing a Babar Azam to the league (dragging it down and not letting it grow from a financial pov).

Peshawar Zalmi also don’t look sincere to Pakistan cricket!

Bhai koi debate na krna bas apni obsession show krna har jaga

I gave a point of keeping stadiums alive and creating rivalries through it. If you dont agree then move on. Rizwan kahan se agya bhai. Even though rizwan played more finals with multan than imad and amir combined. So stop with this pathetic obsession please.

Felt bad for the CeeDee boys

Their sugar daddy on the phone pulled the plug on them to have their toy

Quetta is very badly run.

Karachi needs to go too.

These new companies have more vision than original PSL lot.

Man i just read quetta are paying only 34 crore per annum?? Howww after 10 years they have it so cheap
Idk what their contract is but it shouldn't be renewed at minumum of 10 percent less than last auctioned team or maybe even 20 even then we ll get hundred of crores extra

I caught the live stream of this auction randomly.

Are these companies - Ignite, CD etc. large/popular in Pakistan?

100%

KK, Quetta, LQ and even Zalmi. All seem content with a $hitty player roster and no real effort to spend the amount needed to make this a global juggernaut

Kingsmen and OZ went in hard with the signings and bids. You can see these guys potentially matching and adding on top of what a player like Klaasen, Head or Pooran will demand to play in the PSL over IPL. They are serious about business

Yeah it’s a joke

It’s like they have a membership of an elite members club at student discount rate

Stadiums is a valid point and one of the reason that Faisalabad and Multan should have been in the mix.

PSL has two franchises with no chance of home matches in our lifetimes - Quetta and Peshawar, so yeah it's a shame that we can't expand into other cities and make use of stadiums that exist.
But ultimately if someone drops money on a team they are going to want to play in a place that has some attachment for them.

If Quetta is paying 34cr

Then their direct signing shouldn’t be any less than paying $2m for a player like Travis Head.

Still they will just pi$$ around the corner and look for some cheap bargain option available

Lahore would get tha highest bid if its put up for auction.

Idk what the contract is but pcb should demand atleast 50 percent of this bid from old teams. They have it so easy.
They all combined give this much money that walee are giving for one team now

The next step is the PSL now needs to find a new window and not clash with IPL

Get that player roster up high

Treating quetta like omer associates team is their owners hobby.

I read pcb will contribute in direct signing. For new teams maybe they should but for old ones. NO THEY SHOULD NOT.

Ask these franchises to put money in the league now.

Secondly player auction should be moved some days ahead to give walee time to rope in their staff and analyst for auction

Doesnt make much sense tbh
